Review 35：Do not bother with the Travel Desk. They're extremely unhelpful, to the point of being rude. Suggested pricing is always 30-50% more than you get from the street. I expect to pay a bit more, but 50% ?? We tried to organise a 5 day trip through the Travel Desk and were given 4 different prices by 4 different staff. Equally, when we took the Cinnamon taxi upon arriving from the airport to the hotel, and paid 3,800 Rupees, you would assume it would cost the same going back. unfortunately, in the space of 10 days, the price went up to 4,500 Rupees. I explained the inconsistency to the Travel Desk, and that they should check our bill from when we arrived. He flat out refused to check the bill, or provide me with an alternative taxi service to take us to the airport the following morning. I left the hotel, which i cannot fault other than the Travel Desk, with a bad memory…it feels like they're running a Cartel amongst themselves, hiking up prices for personal gain.

Review 36：Apart from that, Hotel is lovely, with great views of Colombo. The pool and rooftop bar are a highlight as is the breakfast buffet, where you can sample Sri Lankan cuisine, as well as Continental food. The rooms are spacious, clean and with full length windows to admire the view.

The staff on first floor was not very helpful or nice (1st floor is not reception which is weirdly on 7th floor but 1st floor i concergie service etc). The airport drop off was quite pricy compared to other options (35 USD) but we decided to go fot it anyway because we felt it was the most safe to go with the hotel and we didnt want to risk missing the flight - and then the driver tried to take us for a classic sri lanka scam with a "special sale" and take us there before the airport. This is something a lot of unserious tuktuk-drivers do and I can't belive the expensive ride from the hotel would do it. Also a bit to few elevators which is actually a problem in a busy 26 floor hotel. We waited for elevators about 10-20 mins a few times - I know it sounds stupid and scilly -but it actully was about 1-1,5 hour a day waisted on out last days on vacation waiting for elevators ;)

Review 49：This 4 stars hotel doesn't prepare tooth brush, tooth paste and comb.. Travel kit. They said we need to go to hotel's vending machine to buy by ourself. That was absolutely strange,didn't meet our expectation. Even if they wanna charge us, we'd rather they put in the room with a price tag instead we have to go buy it. Actually there's a shop near hotel sells tooth brush is much cheaper than hotel's. The airport transfer they charges 1/3 more than taxi. We got a taxi pick up us to airport by ourselves, the door man saw us move our luggages to the taxi and didn't come over to help, but in the last second he showed up pretend helping, when the cab driver was carry my luggage. Is this his smart way for tips?

Review 54：Everything is up to western standards and the hotel still feels very new and clean. We had a room on the 25th floor and were in love with the view. The infinity pool on the 26th floor was just what we needed after our long flights, and the breakfast was by far the best of our trip, with lots of western and Sri Lankan options, including our favourite hoppers! We tried to coordinate a second night there on our trip just for the pool and breakfast alone. Not a very authentic Sri Lankan experience but definitely comfortable and a good stopping point before or after flying. A short walk down the street, there's also a mall with a large supermarket in the basement so you can stock up for your trip or buy souvenirs (and the mall also had money changers that will give you a much better rate than the hotel).

Review 60：This is not my first time in Colombo or in Sri Lanka and I have never accountered such a bad experience in a hotel of such high standards. I had a bad issue with the Travel Desk manager who quoted me a price for a taxi ride - but worse - the next day the price was even higher (16,000 rupees up to 17,500 for a ride between Colombo to Unawatuna). I did argue with him for 15 minutes which is not a very nice experience in front of other guests. The Manager told me that I misunderstood the price from the driver !!! Or something that silly. The Receptionist felt sorry but could not do anything. I just can't believe that the Cinnamon Red Hotel would treat their international travellers (and single woman) in such unprofessional way. I have never experienced anything like that in the past 5 years travelling alone in Sri Lanka. I would strongly suggest the Management of the hotel to deliver vouchers/order forms with fixed prices to avoid these kind of unprofessional behaviours from their staff.

Review 65：Hidden extras. After paying quite a lot for the room charges, you still need to pay for toothbrush- shaving kit and a comb set. Also if you order food ala carte you need to self collect at reception. Lol!

Review 66：Quite a modern hotel with new style amenities, bright look and feel. For the dinner buffet you do get the option of 1. Opting for the full buffet or 2. Soup and salad buffet or 3. Dessert buffet. Flexible choice.

There is hardly anywhere to sit around the pool- we tried on two occasions and all the seats were taken. The doors are not touch sensitive so if you try to get in whilst they are closing you will be crushed!

Reception and luggage handling staff failing to communicate and locate when phoned from room. Booked a specific, and available, good table for an evening dinner which was then pre-paid. Arrived to find table given to other couple. Ambiance for evening dinner was 'cafeteria' like. Confusion and lack of staff at ground floor during busy check-out time. Express checkout form (stated as required in room information) deemed not needed by reception staff, but seemed to be wanted by person who eventually turned up to accept keys at the entrance.... These were basically the only interactions needed with staff and ought to have been smooth and without problems at this price in Sri Lanka...

Review 100：Needs more and bigger lifts!!! Just 3 small lifts serve all 26 floors. With reception located on the 7th floor, everyone needs to go from ground to 7th to check in and then go in the lift again to get to their room. Consequently the queues get ridiculous at times. Overpriced $35 airport taxi service. As an alternative consider a tuk tuk from the hotel to the Central Bus Station and then take an express air conditioned bus to the airport. Total cost max 350 rupees for the tuk tuk and 110 rupees for the bus seat (though you may need to buy an additional seat if you have large luggage). 460 rupees = @$3.50. It's a good transit hotel for people arriving in or about to leave Sri Lanka, but as such it is characterless. Not somewhere to stay too long.

You can order food from restaurants, but have to go and collect/bring it to your room yourself. Rather looses the point of room dine-in, if you have to leave the room to achieve this.

Review 134：the male staff could learn a lot from their female colleagues everything seemed too muck trouble .from check in staff to the doorman, they were abrupt and rude and kept trying to push the most expensive options on you. they seemed to think "no frills" meant unhelpful.

Review 135：it was reasonable , clean, looks good and modern had a great roof top pool and it was easy to get around from there. The female staff were really helpful and explained the way this odd hotel works. The concept "luxury with no frills" needs a lot more thought put into it

Review 140：Pool area a bit cramped, service in the Cloud bar, which has superb views, a little bit slow, then the bill was wrong we had to wait quite a few minutes whilst it was recalculated.

Review 142：The transfer to the airport was a bit expensive at $35, as it cost us only $25 the other way.

Review 143：The hotel was beautiful, amazing rooftop pool and bar with great views of Colombo. The food in the restaurant was also very nice. Largely the staff were all friendly and helpful. The rooms were clean and comfortable with everything you could need provided. I would definitely recommend this hotel or visit again if I come back to Colombo.
