Reviews for Villa Il Poggiale Dimora Storica
Review 1:The coffee was really poor, expected high quality in Italy. The shower was handheld in the open bathtub in the middle of the bathroom so water splashed everywhere which was very annoying n dangerous
Review 2:The villa is beautiful, staff are helpful, bed was very comfortable
Review 3:I´ve never had in my life such a bad service. It concerned only one person there, but it was enough to spoil the whole holiday. She was arrogant, upset if I dared to say, that the bathtub was out of order, I had to ask it three times before they fixed it, She tried to charge more for dinner as was agreed and finally she tried to charge 10 times more, as was the price. And when I asked the money back, she threw it on the desk and I never heard the word sorry. And finally even not the Arrivederci.
Review 4:The surroundings were amazing, and the villa itself too.
Review 5:i would not recommend the rooms near the kitchen if you prefer to sleep longer in the morning, WLAN (at least my connection) does not work in all rooms properly, breakfast ok but nothing special, private parties of other guests after midnight
Review 6:very nice atmosphere, traditional building, hotel near highway connection with marvellous view over the countryside
Review 7:Our room was too close to a road with traffic, so it was noisy. We specifically request a quiet room and no prior notice about this was given to us.
Review 8:The sorroubding sate very nice.
Review 9:On a hot summer day, the rooms were not sufficiently air conditioned.
Review 10:Beautiful location, attentive service, the Villa itself is amazing. Makes you wonder what sort of history and people went through the place.
Review 11:It would have been God to have ironing facilities in the room.
Review 12:The staff were very helpful and welcoming. The location and view was stunning. The food was also excellent.
Review 13:The reviews say this, and they are true--the only downside is the location on a noisy road. Although, to be fair, we had a room on that side of the villa, the noise-proofing they've done on the windows and doors made it a non-issue--totally quiet. But, if you crave complete silence, you'll be a little distracted as you watch the sunset from the gardens on the west, and hear the traffic on the road at your back on the east.
Review 14:We stumbled off an internet search and into a little Tuscan gem called Villa Il Poggiale. The feel of an historic castle; superb and friendly staff without exception; amazing in-house dining and wines; a gorgeous view of the vineyards and olive grove valley looking west at the Tuscan sunsets; easy access to Florence and the hill towns--all just a perfect getaway for a couple or family. Highly recommended!
Review 15:The dining hall is too noisy. Hangings or baffles in the barrel ceiling would permit greater enjoyment of the food.
Review 16:Amazing location, cordial guests who welcomed conversation with us, very helpful staff, easy drives to all Tuscan sites, many small villages and towns give real modern contact with the charm of Tuscany. We would return again since six days were not enough! As interesting as Florence itself.
Review 17:Problems getting hot enough water, always luck warm. Didn't really have a hot shower the whole time I was there.
Review 18:The food was outstanding!! Great staff, extremely helpful, lovely facilities.
Review 19:Would have been nice to have a proper bar with atmosphere although the honesty bar is also a good idea. A cheaper alternative to the single choice buffet menu in the evening would have been welcome, however the food was great!
Review 20:The staff went the extra mile in making our stay comfortable, memorable and easy, including complementary transport to local winery. Views are spectacular and the villa is impressive in its appearance. Location perfect for a great appreciation of Chianti.
Review 21:A few small things that were more of a bother than dislikes... Seating at breakfast outside was jammed together...wi fi was spotty at best, but your on a holiday so no big deal.
Review 22:Staff went to any length to insure your stay was memorable.. Great views !
Review 23:Buffet dinner was disappointing, quality of food -poor for such a beautiful place.Pool-cold water, weather poor-no other diversions . Signage to villa -could be better with more frequent postings.
Review 24:Beautiful villa, with fantastic views of the Tuscany hillside. Room was spacious with view of front gardens. Breakfasts were very good and especially enjoyable when taken on terrace.Staff accomodating and helpful.Great location to tour wine and hillside towns.Great restaurants down in town.
Review 25:There are a lot of stairs so if you have problems with going up and down, this is not the property for you. Apart from that there is nothing
Review 26:We truly enjoyed our vacation. Everything was beautiful. The staff was wonderful and helpful. The grounds are gorgeous and the location perfect for sightseeing. A car is necessary to get around The rooms are rustic but very appealing. Breakfast was wonderful and cappuccino fantastic. Wonderful place to stay!
Review 27:Everything was perfect. The beautiful villa. The room - spacious, beautifully designed in very good taste, and very comfortable. The wine. A sense of calm everywhere around the villa, which gives you a feeling of luxury yet remains very authentic and warm. The perfect swimming pool overlooking the Tuscan hills. A small spa. Great breakfast on the terrace. Wonderful staff.
Review 28:The road behind the villa is now unfortunately more busy than before. (Ask for a room on the front if it bothers you.)
Review 29:I have been to Villa il Poggiale several times over the past six years. The villa and facilities are always beautifully kept. Clean and well maintained, with an elegant yet relaxed atmosphere. The pool is a real plus and the location unbeatable - 20 minutes from Florence or Siena in the heart of Chianti. We love the staff, who are always wonderful and accommodating.
Review 30:road noise - very noticable liited menu for evening buffet - and ok quality of food -failure to deliver pre-arranged bottle of champagne to be wating in room on arrival - failure of local restaurant booking by reception staff - not enough sun loungers for guests failure to announce wedding being held
Review 31:beautiful builing elegant interiors stunning views honesty bar size of rooms bed comfort
Review 32:Dark and noisy bedroom right next to reception, with guests right outside our window. Hence we couldn't have light on. Hinges to wardrobe made awful noise so I got them oiled. Uncomfortable metal chairs for meals taken outside. No buses to get anywhere which stop near hotel. No taxes available in local town. Cold and un interesting evening meals.
Review 33:Bed very comfortable. Good breakfast. Nice pool. Good grounds.
Review 34:We had an outside room next to the road and could hear the road noises in our room.
Review 35:Everyone was extremely friendly and helpful. The dinners were excellent. The fresh baked bread's were delicious.
Review 36:Nothing
Review 37:My husband and I stayed in Il Poggiale for three nights on our recent visit to Tuscany. The location of the hotel is excellent for visiting both Florence and Siena and all the other beautiful smaller towns in Tuscany. Our room was spacious with a view down the garden from the front of the house. We enjoyed relaxing by the swimming pool every morning after a tasty and varied buffet breakfast served on the terrace overlooking the countryside. We would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel to anyone looking for a peaceful few days in the Tuscan countryside.
Review 38:Nothing!
Review 39:We stayed at Villa il Poggiale in June 2014 and truly enjoyed our stay there. Words fail to describe the view on the Tuscan hills from the terrasse at sunset. The Villa itself is spectacular, with a very polite and helpful staff. There's classic music in one of the common areas where you can sit and help yourself to the honesty bar. I had planned to ask my fiance to marry me in Tuscany and Il Poggiale really helped create the proper mood for the demand. They were allies in this endeavor, and that to me is priceless.
Review 40:Because of the structure of the villa is kept as it was during the Middle Ages The windows in the rooms are high and it is hard to see the landscapes of Tuscany from the room.
Review 41:If you are looking to experience the atmosphere of Tuscany this is the place. The villa was preserved medieval design, room furniture is authentic, excellent staff, amazing view. Location of the villa is comfortable base tours in Tuscany region . In the villa there is an excellent restaurant and around the villa are also excellent restaurants, in short words, a great place to vacation in Tuscany.
Review 42:The Villa was magnificent, our "standard room" was enormous and very well appointed. The food was exceptional, the wine list of high quality and the views were very beautiful. It was too hot and we were too busy to spend much time indoors but the library and sitting room were lovely too. It was an incredibly romantic location
Review 43:Dinner was not good...staff gave us a discount, thank goodness..not a good value
Review 44:Too far from central Florence
Review 45:Beautiful estate
Review 46:Bed too short, very slow service at dinner
Review 47:Very nice room,beautiful villa
Review 48:It's the very nice place you would definitely want to come back.
Review 49:Friendly, helpful and warm staff Good food at great value Fantastic location and view
Review 50:slow internet
Review 51:the villa
Review 52:The speed of the wifi could be improved - far too slow.
Review 53:None!
Review 54:Lovely villa, great staff and close to Florence. Great location from which to explore the Tuscany region. Enjoyed our stay.
Review 55:Great staff wonderful place to stay
Review 56:Beautiful surroundings
Review 57:Little too quite.
Review 58:Nice location and nice staff.
Review 59:Hotel gave preference to big groups
Review 60:Good food
Review 61:Traffic noise, only.
Review 62:We took our key, by accident. Will send it back this weekend.
Review 63:The quality of coffee does not match the quality of all service. Still >100% satisfied. Will stay again.
Review 64:Made to feel at home!
Review 65:The buffet dinner was nice but considerably over-priced at €70pp
Review 66:everything!
Review 67:Weak wifi
Review 68:Great facility and the dinners were exceptional!
Review 69:The AC in the room was a bit too loud.
Review 70:We had a magical stay - what a place! Will definitely come back, and recommend it to our friends.
Review 71:Everything
Review 72:Getting bitten by the pool was off-putting.
Review 73:The location was beautiful!
Review 74:Room next to the reception is very noisy. Prices for food and drinks are expensive.
Review 75:Clean rooms, breakfast, swimmimgpool, very friendly staff.
Review 76:The large room, great breakfast and views.
Review 77:Nothing!!
Review 78:Amazing location and the house had a family home feel. It felt like a boutique hotel
Review 79:Bed wasn't too comfortable in room number 9. Walls were a little thin, could hear people in hallway.
Review 80:Monica and her staff were wonderful, gracious and tended to our needs. Rooms were comfortable and well furnished, and very clean. Food was very tasty, wait staff was attentive and friendly. Quiet, relaxing and mellow atmosphere. The atmosphere of the villa was peaceful.
Review 81:The beauty treatment was fab but the noisy travellers who had no consideration for others spoilt it somewhat. Some wedding party guests took too much advantage of the honesty bar which I found rude.
Review 82:I loved this villa. The views sitting at breakfast over the Tuscan countryside were absolutely beautiful,I loved the rooms with the courtyards & the main sitting room where one could help themselves to a drink at the honesty bar was so peaceful. It was as they said a home away from home. The staff were lovely & although stretched to the limit did their best to accommodate us.I would definately return.
Review 83:As it's an old (beautiful) renaissance villa from 1400, there are lots and lots of stairs. not good for someone who has any sort of mobility injury. Dinner was overpriced at 32euros each but easily solved by eating at one of their recommended restaurants with scenic views and delicious food!
Review 84:Loved, loved, loved this villa. You'd be doing yourself a favour by booking it! the most breath taking views I have seen in a long time! and the rooms are too wonderful!
Review 85:WiFi is so so.
Review 86:Villa Il Poggiale is the best place to be when you want to have a luxury stay in Tuscany. The atmosphere of the villa and surroundings are overwhelming. Visiting Florence, Pisa or other cities are easy from here. Driving the Chianti route is also easy from here. Having diner in the Villa is excellent! I stay every month in many international hotels for my work so I have a lot of experience but this villa I will give 10+ !! Staff and owners of Villa Il Poggiale thanks that we could stay in such a beautiful Villa.
Review 87:Road noise! This was very load and disruptive, we had the room beside the reception. Room 12! Staff can be rude, especially when we ordered food and several mistakes were made and no alternative was offered. Also the area we were positioned at for the wedding breakfast was very cold and windy and the patio heaters were in effective. Our room also had a bad smell to it and it smelt of drains!
Review 88:Excellent therapist for massage and shiatsu, patricia who made my stay at the hotel unltra relaxed after a 70 minute massage. She was Wonderful! Lovely pool and comfortable table areas to sit and relax. The standard and quality of the food was excellent.
Review 89:Everything was excellent. There's nothing to dislike
Review 90:This place was amazing. The views from the top of the villa was priceless. The staff, especially Monica was very helpful. Monica was able to book wine tastings and recommended a nice drive through Tuscany to visit the towns nearby. Dinner at the villa was delicious.... One of the best meals we have had in Italy. There are also very nice restaurants in the area such as cinque di vino which is run by Marco and Silvia. The staff at the reception will gladly make reservations for you. Overall, our experience at Villa Il Poggiale was priceless and we hope to return one day.
Review 91:Slow wifi but who cares. Some noise from the road during the day but it s very quite between 10 pm and 7 am.
Review 92:We had great time in this beautiful landscape with fifty shades of green. Monica and Irene give excellent tips for nearby small treasures and good restaurants. Spacious Suite no. 10 is more expensive but it's money well spent. Highly recommended
Review 93:We enjoyed so much staying at Il Poggiale Dimora Storica. A comfortable room and a breathtaking view of Tuscan countryside. Helpful staff (especially Federica).
Review 94:Wi-Fi doesn't reach all the rooms but you don't really need it if you are on a romantic getaway.
Review 95:Beautiful, romantic, secluded, luxurious and tasteful!
Review 96:Unfortunately there was no dinner facility due to low occupancy. Thanks to the staff, they provided transportation to the hotel in san casciano, which was a good gesture. Wifi is very weak/non-existent in the rooms due to thick old walls.
Review 97:Amazing Villa. Friendly staff. Very good facilities. Best value for money. Will definitely recommend this villa to others.
Review 98:Not a thing
Review 99:The place, the setting, the rooms and the hateau are spectacular. The staff were bright and helpful. The views from the chateau are breathtaking. . Even the folks picking olives in the groves on or near the place were delightful. My wife and I are dreaming about returning - cant get it out of our heads.
Review 100:Very peaceful. Beautiful villa. Large rooms and bathroom. Food excellent. Swimming pool is lovely. Beautiful views. Very helpful staff. We were very pleased for the cost. Would stay there again. Car is best for sightseeing but bus service available. Wonderful for couples or families.
Review 101:The only issue for us was the road that was close to our room, and particularly loud one night. But it didn't really take away from the magic- id just get a room on the other side next time.
Review 102:All the reviews are true to their word, this wonderful place is so relaxed and with a 'home from home' feel. The staff can't do enough to help, we felt welcome from the moment we were collected. It was my birthday and the complimentary prosecco and strawberries were so lovely. I couldn't recommend this villa more.. The food is beautiful, the massages are perfect and the setting is out of this world. We didn't want to leave..
Review 103:A wedding party was hosted by the hotel while we were there and we were excluded from all facilities, including dining, for the whole day and late into the evening. This was at extremely short notice. This was very inconvenient and spoilt our plans.
Review 104:Stunning location. Friendly and helpful staff. Very good facilities. Excellent and well organised breakfast
Review 105:In addition to the worst dinner we have ever had in Italy, all guestshad to eat at 20.00 hours, or not at all. The worst aspect to this hotelis they will break your booking contract if they get a better offer. Webooked in January for 4 nights in June, vbut were told in April that wecould only be accommodated for 2 nights due to a wedding. Despite askingthere was no question of compensation for this inconvenience. A lovelyvilla but they do need to work on their customer service. We were movedto Villa Talente down the road which was much better value. Avoid VillaPoggiale if you want a relaxing holiday!!
Review 106:The Villa itself is set in beautiful Tuscan countryside, with good roomsand a very good spa. The staff were pleasant but not over accommodating. The breakfast was good and well organised, which cannot be said for the1 dinner we had during our stay.
Review 107:Arrived at night in the dark to locked gates and no response to the bell. Eventually found a 'letter' in the hedge/wall that explained reception was closed and a mobile to ring. Not the best start to a holiday. The staff were very friendly the next day but couldn't really appreciate the anxiety of arriving to locked gates and no one to answer the hotel intercom.
Review 108:Good value. The building and its views.
Review 109:The food in the evening was excellent but a buffet style dinner was notto our taste or preferences and it seemed a little pricey by comparisonwith a restaurant and a menu
Review 110:Location, proximity to Florence, views, San Casciano facilities, staffattitude, easy atmosphere, breakfast, honesty bar (people abused it andit may have to stop though)
Review 111:Wifi not very good.
Review 112:Love the place and the sunset! The recept a guy was friendly and told us where to go. Also something to mebtioned was quite impress with the idea od the honesty bar where we take drinks and write it down.
Review 113:Superb, steeped in History. Wonderful 4 poster bed. Only created as a Hotel 6 years ago but somehow they've managed to maintain the feeling of a family home. Situated in the Chianti region. Very relaxing couldn't praise it highly enough.
Review 114:We liked the room, the food, the grounds, the location - everything. Most of all, we liked the attentiveness and helpfulness of and all members of the staff - Monica and Giovanni, in particular.
Review 115:no wi-fi in the rooms (understandable, old building with thick walls)
Review 116:Home cooked food, friendly staff, comfort, beautiful villa, beautiful surroundings, proximity to Florence/Sienna
Review 117:At first, we struggled with directions because the gps and smartphonedirections left us 700 meters from their driveway. The Villa did haveplenty of signs; we just were not looking for them.
Review 118:The beautiful setting; Great food! Gracious, elegant furnishings;Helpful staff; Serene and great sunsets.
Review 119:Staff were outstanding .The food was excellent and the location had great views of tuscany.a great location.. central to visit Florence,San G , Greve ,Montalcino etc..A building of real character and style and the Spa/massage area although small was outstanding after a days sightseeing.I shall return.
Review 120:The main road is too close, but the walls are so thick that you can't hear anything.
Review 121:We had a fantastic stay in the Villa. We didn't really know it was such an old villa and we were amazed! The spa was also fantastic and Marcello was the best waiter ever! You should go to La Toscana and stay there.
Review 122:We would have liked wi-fi in the rooms as we could only get it in communal areas. The car park was not very good as it was largely unlandscaped and a "free-for-all".
Review 123:We were over the moon with the service and attention to detail at Villia II Pogialle. The setting and decor were beautiful and the food was delicious. We would definitely recommend it to everyone. It was an ideal base too for visiting many well know Tuscan treasures.
Review 124:There is no internet service as they say and I do not like staff also. Acttualy, they are very rude...expect Daniel and restoran staff.
Review 125:Location, accommodation and style.
Review 126:We had never stayed before in such a luxurous place before! We got goodvalue for our money. The welness center was free of charge, thebreakfast was perfect with delicious homebaked cake and the villa initself was a very impressive building. Our room was beautifullydecorated, even though we stayed in the most basic option. We woulddefinitely recommend others to go there.
Review 127:The price is a little bit too high considering the out-of-town location
Review 128:My wife and I really enjoyed our staying at Villa il Poggiale. The villa is beautiful with a great view. Nice and clean rooms (a little bit small). The personnel is very friendly and professional. The buffet is very good and the breakfast various and abundant. In addition, the provide a great spa service. The only drawback of staying at Villa il Poggiale is the price. If you do not get a speacial deal in low season it is going to cost you like a 5 star hotel in new york. We strongly recomend the place which is also in a very convenient location for visiting (even daily) the close by Firenze.
Review 129:The only comment I can say is that we had an issue with hot water in our bathroom, but was fixed later on, and the other thing is that after 19:00 the villa will be closed, and there is some process to access it after that time.
Review 130:The villa was very nice, we were there for a wedding, the rooms are nice, each has a different design, and clean. Staff were very friendly and helpful. The area is very quiet, ideal for an escape from the city. It's around 35 minutes from the center of Florence, so you can still do the city if you like.
The Fine Print
