Reviews for Seikiro Ryokan Historical Museum Hotel

Review 1:The onsen was not hot enough and needs upgrading. The bathrooms need a revamp.

Review 2:Seikiro Ryokan is an amazing place, with a very rich history. If you are looking for a traditional ryokan experience, this is the hotel for you! The staff were very generous and friendly with their time. The room was very spacious and had amazing views to the garden, plus 100 year old calligraphy on the walls.

Review 3:Nothing

Review 4:I loved every single thing about the place ! Yes, it is a bit far from Miyazu station, but if you ask the Ryokan staff, they would be glad to pick you up and lift you to the train station. The staff speaks very fine english and very helpful. The house is a bit cold in lated December but the room is very comfortable. I would really recommend my friends to this place. The only regret I have is that I only book it for 1 night.

Review 5:Nothing to dislike, really.

Review 6:Location was 8-10 mins easy walk from Miyazu train station and 2-3 mins to Mipple Shopping Centre. Lady owner was so kind to walk us to the nearest bus stop in the cold weather - impressed! Head server (didnt get her name?) was so kind and helpful. Handsome Male owner (Lady owner”s son) was just as nice, making sure that the onsen water was hot enough for me - Domo arigato! Overall, a great 2 nights stay at an affordabe price. Highly recommended for the friendliness, authentic Ryokan charm, superb location and great value.

Review 7:The bath was a little disappointing for me, but still enjoyable. It just wasn't as nice as the rest of the property.

Review 8:The staff was lovely. They looked after my luggage after I checked out, no worries. When I came back cold and wet from the rain they turned on the heater and invited me to stay there until my train. Even served me coffee and offered me the bath. Then they surprised me by driving me to the station! I got a personal tour of the museum part too. I didn't want to leave!

Review 9:Hotel is a museum and a piece of history but clearly needs some rehabilitation (common bath wooden accessories are roting and chipping away). Individual bathroom is full of mold. Somewhat close to train station and Amanohashidate (1km and 3km repectively)

Review 10:Personnel is very kind and serviceable Hotel came to pick us up at last minute request and drove us to Amonohashidate

Review 11:The name says it all! Impressive traditional Japanese mansion by the water, with a view over Amano-Hashidate. Very spacious rooms (10 tatami). The owner, who speaks excellent English, is keen to show his "museum", a collection of art works and antiques that have been in the family for two centuries.

Review 12:Many places in the room and public areas need to be well cleaned. I found lots of dust and fungi at ventilators and decorations. The breakfast are the same for two days and it's not hard to figure out they are not freshly cooked. They must be from supermarket. When check out the front desk strongly suggests for cash payments, although not forced, but giving us bad feeling - as they are cooperating with booking.com and Citibank credit card rebate promotion. (Why should I give it up ?)

Review 13:Price is inexpensive for traditional ryokan. The building itself is quite historical.

Review 14:Smoking odor from the room somewhat bothered us.

Review 15:This Japanese ryokan is a historic one with a good garden, in a small town. We enjoyed food, Japanese tradition, and 風呂。

Review 16:The bath needs a general and intense cleaning! Curtains were tattered and had several water stains. Not possible for a 4 star Hotel.

Review 17:A beautiful Ryokan inside a Museums Building. Serving large traditionell rooms and delicious japanese food.

Review 18:Beautiful and charming Ryokan. The friendly owner of the Ryokan makes a short and funny tour through his Ryokan. The rooms are big with a beautiful garden-view. A very calm and recreativ place.

Review 19:The staff was absolutely fantastic! We loved our beautiful room and having access to an Onsen. The breakfast was one of the best meals that we had in Japan. The staff made sure to have a vegetarian meal prepared for me which was incredibly thoughtful. We will definitely be back and highly recommend staying here to others.

Review 20:I like the owner of this hotel, what a very kind person, he explained all the activities that we can do around the hotel and even arrange trop to amino. He even sent us to a place where we can have a dinner. The Room, out of my expectation, it was a big room...even bigger then our apartment in Kyoto... haha.. The onsen of the Hotel was nice, not that big but it is okay for me. because not so crowded, I even felt like private onsen. This is a museum Ryokan Hotel with full of Japanese touch here and there...overall, Me and my wife really enjoy stayed at this hotel. Will come here again for my next visit.

Review 21:There was honestly nothing not to like there.

Review 22:Everything was absolutely amazing! Beautiful little town, gorgeous ryokan and lovely owners! Amanohashidate cca 10 mins drive - a must see! Visiting Miyazu and staying at Seikiro Ryokan was an experience of a real Japan to us. :) I will definitely return again!

Review 23:Sleeping on futons was OK, but the pillows are too hard.

Review 24:The place is a real classic Japanese hotel. The owner (13th generation) and his mother are very welcoming. Gave us a flute lesson, gave us a complete tour of the building, and arranged a tea ceremony.

Review 25:I typed KYOTO in booking.com and this property was listed. It is in fact a 2 hour train journey from Kyoto. It doesn't mention this and shouldn't be listed under Kyoto as it's very misleading. Although the accommodation was excellent we wanted to be in Kyoto and had to do a 4 hour round trip each day to do so which is not ideal with 2 young kids

Review 26:The property was beautiful and Miyza was nice to explore

Review 27:The hotel is a museum with many old pictures, including of the area. Once we'd visited Amanohashidate we could see it in the pictures. Our room was great with different entrance areas & an area for sitting by the window. We enjoyed the traditional bathing & breakfast - not favourite food for the children but they tried everything. Also, we were collected & returned to the station by the owners.

Review 28:Intermittent WiFi connection.

Review 29:Traditional room in a very old house; the onsen; traditional breakfast was a great way to learn about the first meal of the day; the attentive owners; peaceful room overlooking Japanese garden; access to the blue dragon, along whose backbone we walked.

Review 30:The wifi not really working in your room, you should go to public area to get strong signal.

Review 31:the ambience is perfect and the onsen (hot bathtub) is amazing! The staffs are really friendly and helpful.

Review 32:Amazing place! I really felt like I was in old Japan completely without the tourist feeling you get some places. The owner and his family are really devoted to make your stay as good as possible. This was our no.1 stay while in Japan. Most highly recommended.

Review 33:Staff were very friendly and helpful as you would expect with tje Japanese and the food was superb. Comfortable room in a very traditional style. The on site museum is also fascinating.

Review 34:its true that in the toilet was i bit cold but its commen in Japan everywhere. they dont have warm houses...

Review 35:nice servis, hot spa where you can wash yourself so dont need bath in room. in the room was prepare hot water for tea, cold water for drinking. when we went out and came back, it was little bit cold and we were really happy to fint some kind of stove under cover. it was warm all night. soo cool. and i dont have a idea what was it :-) its really good hotel and specialy for the price... reccomend it to everyone

Review 36:Location Comfort Beautiful garden and room Wonderful and very helpful staff and the owner who can speak fluent English Bike rental Quiet environment 30 minutes' bus ride ro Hashidate but the room rates are much cheaper than the hotels in Hashidate. 7 minutes' walk to the train station 1 minute's walk to the bus stop. There is a big shopping mall Mipple, including a supermarket just one block away.

Review 37:Beautiful serene garden view from my spacious and comfortable room. The breakfast was delicious, typical Japanese. The staff went out of their way to meet me at the station and then pick me up in Amanohashidate to get the train back to Osaka. 5 Stars

Review 38:The shared bathroom/onsen is really basic and rundown and lacked heating. It was winter and it was cold.

Review 39:Its a charming old building with antique like old furniture . I especially like the small dressing table in the room. Owner was very friendly and recommended a good restaurant just 3 min walk from the ryokan . Mipple, a local shopping mall with supermarket is just 5 min walk away. Nice garden view .

Review 40:very nice host family (for 13 generations!) the house is just great the room was by far the best we had on the whole journey rental bikes bring you to Amanohashidate in a jiffy give a call ahead, so the host will pick you up at the station

Review 41:The wireless in the room didn't work very well, but we weren't expecting to have it at all so it was ok. The bathroom was freezing!

Review 42:The people who run the inn were very sweet. We arrived late at night and the lady suggested restaurants that were still open, pointing them out on a map she gave us. She left us hot water for tea every day, and ice water too to drink. We even asked to leave our luggage there after check out so we could continue to explore the town, and they were very nice about it. The onsen was lovely, as was the space heater in our room, and the view of the garden. The room itself was perfect; just the right size, and fitted with cute antiques and modern appliances, including a fridge, and a sink.

Review 43:Bikes for hire needed a serious service.

Review 44:Absolutely gorgeous ryokan with impeccable service. The owners were extremely gracious and generous with their hospitality.

Review 45:Great experience of sleeping in a museum! Very kind owner of this hotel, guide me around, explain the history and culture of the exhibition. I will introduce my friends to go.

Review 46:We were met at the door of the hotel and given a warm welcome. On checking in the owner was very friendly, especially when we explained that we were from the UK but lived in Japan. He explained the history of the amazing building and the links with his family. The room was perfect, comfortable and welcoming. In the morning breakfast was served in the fabulous room by wonderful staff. Overall an excellent experience.

Review 47:There were not many guests! We hope it gets plenty of custom as it deserves it. We had to leave promptly after one night due to the approaching typhoon, and would have liked to have had more time to enjoy the building in the morning.

Review 48:The staff were friendly and incredibly helpful, the food was unbelievably good, the onsen was all we could have wished for, our room was large and comfortable, and the building itself is a gem.

Review 49:The facility rates and prices it selves as a 4-star ryoka. Unfortunately we found out that the rooms are a bit shabby. For half the money we stayed at other ryokas that was better.

Review 50:The guided tour and the history of the house was interesting.,

Review 51:Staff was extremely helpful and went out of their way to show us the museum and history of the building. Room was spacious with access to the inner garden. Plenty of room for storage and daily utilities included. Nice location close to the sea, although I recommend renting the available bikes to make the more of your stay. They save a lot of time and give a lot of freedom about how to plan your day. All in all I totally recommend the place. Probable we will repeat the experience since we loved the location as well as the ryokan.

Review 52:This place is a little iconic and worth the visit. English is fair and reasonable. Gave good local information. Nice restaurants near by some you may have to do Google translate but it works. Enjoy.

Review 53:The location of the Ryokan is about 15 mins walk away from the nearest train station which is a sweat if you need to tug along your luggage in hot summer. Nonetheless, you can try to call to check if free pick-up is available. We didn't as it stated that free pick-up is only available after 3pm.

Review 54:This ryokan suits our needs well. It provides a clean, big and cosy ryokan room with comfortable futon and bicycle rental to navigate nearby attractions. There is a nearby supermarket "Mipple" and a park. The famous Amanohashidate is just a 10-15 mins cycle there with scenic view sea view along the way. A bonus is when the owner of the 300-year old Ryokan gave us a short introduction of his ancestors' historical paintings and calligraphy exhibit in hall locatrd 3rd storey of the Ryokan. He also drove us back to the train station. It was a nice touch before we leave this place :)
