Reviews for Captains Lodge International

Review 1:this one is an oldie, but a goodie, possibly the best we stayed in.The beautiful, garden & pool views were a bonus and the room was large, clean & had a lounge to rest on as well. not to mention the free breakfast! we would certainly recommend this one

Review 2:The unusual "u" shape surrounding a very restful garden setting, and both the view and access to the garden. Whilst sitting there enjoying a glass of wine Elisabeth brought out some home made strudel. The room was very clean and the bed new and comfortable.

Review 3:large room overlooking the rose garden and pool, the bed was so comfortable the best sleep we have had in a while. the evening meal was nicely presented.

Review 4:Roomy and comfortable as well as quiet for a near highway location. Nice outlook over the grounds. Price makes excellent value if you want a roof over your head.

Review 5:Was advised by the owner to try out Star Hotel, needed a decent meal after a long drive. Steak meal was dry and very over priced, wouldve been more happy with a maccas meal

Review 6:1 night stay with my little family. Reasonable price for the family room! Very comfortable beds.

Review 7:Staff are not very receptive, continental breakfast. Given at the same time we arrived, as if its burden on them. Property very old.

Review 8:Price good, property bit old though.

Review 9:Unappetising continental breakfast - not as ordered. Tired decor and fittings, cobwebs around bedhead, dead insects in bathroom above shower, towels had damaged edges.

Review 10:Clean, comfortable bed.

Review 11:Minor problems: taps in bathroom very difficult to turn on or off, no fan in bathroom, hairdryer useless, shortage of power points. Wifi expensive (we didn't use it).

Review 12:A good night's sleep. Surprisingly quiet, though the motel is just off the A1. Very nice muesli provided for breakfast.

Review 13:The property is too old and the owners are not up with modern trends or expctatipns. Really past it's prime.

Review 14:Bed was comfortable amd tje gatden outlook was pleasant.

Review 15:Grounds and pool a little disappointing. We weren't planning a BBQ but you couldn't use this. All a bit run down around the property but room was clean and comfortable.

Review 16:Super comfortable bed and pillows. Lovely shower too. Very clean room. And very quiet.

Review 17:Run down does not look like the website upgraded to a patio overlooking gardens there was no patio or gardens pool was green carpets dirty

Review 18:Staff was very friendly

Review 19:Poor service, tried keep up our booking fee. Didn't won't to cook dinner for family, breakfast was a very poor continental, not like web site indicated, hotel in bad repair... Reminded me of Pysco hotel... Don't stay here...

Review 20:Leaving

Review 21:Most power points didn't work, only enough coffee for I cup, tailed leaked water, next to no heating, cold room, no breakfast by 9am so we left. No answer of phone calls or messages returned.

Review 22:Beds were comfortable.

Review 23:Didn't have a bad experience, it just looks like it has stopped in time. Funny but good.

Review 24:Liked the bed and the shower. For our purposes, a wedding in the vicinity (less than 5 min drive), the location was great.

Review 25:Was in contact with 2 staff members when I arrived one of whom was the owner. She was EXTREAMLY rude and unprofessional and had terrible manners. I Was accused of smoking in the room on my last visit, accused of having too many appliances operating in the room when there was no power when I first arrived. Was rudely told to be OUT by 10am Sunday morning no exceptions!!!!

Review 26:Close to my destination. Bed was comfortable and warm.

Review 27:Very cold room, poor air conditioning, you had to turn air conditioner off when boiling the kettle so as not to blow a fuse. Very old damp cramped bathroom. Only got breakfast one morning instead of two.

Review 28:Nothing

Review 29:Quiet location, perfect distance to where I needed to travel. Staff were friendly and approachable. Loved that I was not hassled once the next morning to leave right on time.... Never seen anyone was awesome will stay again.

Review 30:The heating was poor, electric blanket didn't work, electrical connections frayed and the use of power points left a lot to be desired. Shower, although hot, the experience was not pleasant, due to the force of the water blowing the shower curtain everywhere. Water was everywhere all over the floor outside the shower space. The temperature was -1 to 6 for the entire of our stay.

Review 31:The comfortable lounge chair.

Review 32:- no one at reception when we arrived, had to call and wait for someone to turn up - shower in room didn't drain properly - informed reception on leaving but received no feedback

Review 33:ROOM WAS OK THOUGH HEATER/COOLER A BIT ANCIENT AND NOISY. NUMBER OF POWER OUTLETS POOR AND YOU NEED TO USE ONE, PULL APPLIANCE PLUG OUT TO USE THE NEXT APPLIANCE - TOASTERS / KETTLE ETC

Review 34:CLOSE TO SALE CITY EASY ACCESS TO PRINCESS HIGHWAY FRIENDLY AND COOPERATIVE STAFF

Review 35:Yes indeed a bad experience. Arrived at 8:30pm and waited 30 minutes for service standing outside in the cold. The staff denied that I had made a booking when I had booked 3 hours earlier, when they checked their computer my booking was there although they overbooked my room which resulted in myself having to pay extra for a bigger room that I did not actually require. Very rude and short. The rooms definitely are not worth the money either, will not be staying again.

Review 36:That the electric blankets were on when we arrived

Review 37:Arrived to a freezing cold room with open windows and no working heater late at night after a 3 hour drive. No one visible on site. Had to ring owner by mobile to arrange for breakfast by someone who doesn't do breakfasts as part of her job. She did fine, but was uncomfortable within doing it. The final night there was no one else on the property no other guests and our door had no lock. The property was out of town and isolated.

Review 38:We were able to change rooms after the first night to a more modern room with some heat and a pair of chairs though no lock on the back door.

Review 39:The toaster was broken. So had no bfast only one cup for coffee. Only two milks. Old TV. Had to get on my hands and knees to find the power point near the bef

Review 40:The location

Review 41:Everything. Needs to be updated. Carpet was disgusting, bed sheets and cover were stained smelly and old, toilet leaking, heater noisy and smelly, door was hard to open, just a horrible room in need of full restoration

Review 42:Nothing at all

Review 43:Most of it. Welcome was non existant, room had been left open with windows on a sub 6 degree day, so room was freezing, Couldn't adjust heating as no knobs. Fridge was off when came in and no idea how cold it was. Breakfast was ordinary

Review 44:Comfortable bed

Review 45:No staff on arrival and difficulty contacting anyone. Tried to contact someone, anyone on arrival but had to go away and come back later and still encountered problems contacting staff.

Review 46:fridge turned off when we arived , the next morning everything was frozen because the fridge was on high and we didnt know

Review 47:friendly staff , great location

Review 48:On my 2 nd day of stay . Boss was not there and one of the staff members let me check in . He was not help ful at all even he was the very lazy person . It was a rainy day n he didn't want to open the main door for me as he was sitting confit inside and watching tv.

Review 49:Boss lady was very helpful . She helped me before I became her customer by directing me into right direction over the phone. She did reply to my every email as I was not expecting that from that place especially after having incridibely bad bad experience with that lazy men.

Review 50:It's an old motel. It is far and not an easy walk to town. Very isolated. The worst thing is that there are no lights left on on common areas. Even the motel sign was off. Very off putting when returning after dinner

Review 51:Cheap and clean. Comfortable bed. Has nice garden to sit and read. Pool looked ok.

Review 52:The room is a little cramped with three beds. The shower needs some maintenance, unfortunately the water oversprayed & wet all the towels. We were offered replacements, but we had our own. The lights made a noise so maybe two of them need replacing. It appeared the room may not have been vacuumed prior to our arrival. It was vacuumed next day when we asked. The supply of breakfast, loose cereal & bread slices were cling wrapped but the jug of milk & glasses of juice were not covered whilst in transit. One of our family having just come out of hospital couldn't risk & so didn't have juice or milk. This we feel could be a health contravention. Whilst we were offered Wi-Fi which was presented as being a free favour to us, we weren't able to take up the free offer as it didn't work. Apparently the distance to the room is too far to work. So although wi-fi was presented as a free bonus it wasn't & we had to use our own.

Review 53:The Staff are friendly. The location good, is far enough away from main traffic. The grounds are pleasant. The room is adequate. The room although old is mostly comfortable. Parking good easily accessible & just outside our door. Shower has good heat & water pressure, needs maintenance. With jug, toaster & microwave all working well. A pleasant breakfast was provided. Overall our stay was pleasant, staff were friendly & we probably would stay again when up in Sale.

Review 54:Shower felt like needles. Perhaps changing shower rose to a gentler or one you can change settings on would be good.

Review 55:The bed was very comfortable. Breakfast was included in price

Review 56:The place is ageing, it needs a renovation to restore it to its heyday. Certainly worth renovating - good position, good layout etc. al. Just showing its age

Review 57:The Manager is a lovely lady

Review 58:Our stay was short and was meant to be relaxing but when we arrived staff were not very welcoming. The rooms were tiny compared to what was advertised on the site. The beds were awful and the mattress seemed to be too big for the base, myself and my partner couldn't get a decent nights rest as they were so uncomfortable. the television also was missing channel 7 [which you would expect to be an easy channel to receive]. The air conditioning/heater was broken. I would never stay here again and would not recommend it to anyone, worst experience at a motel ever.

Review 59:Our stay at this motel had no good attributes once so ever.

Review 60:We were disappointed that dinner was not available as we had heard very good reports about it. Apparently one has to advise that dinner is required when making a booking. However the owner did bring a cherry sponge sweet to make up for our disappointment.

Review 61:the shower was magnificent. Fantastic water pressure.

Review 62:No-one at reception when we arrived at 2.00 pm.(i.e. afternoon!). We were about to look for alternative accommodation when the owners arrived. Unfriendly reception. Spiders in room. Water tastes awful in this area.

Review 63:Lack of other guests. Leaving.

Review 64:Room was clean but very musty smelling, needing a general refurbish, replace carpet and upgrade.Breakfast continental bare covering of cerial in bottom of bowls, very limited.Outside lawns over 2-3 weeks overdue in mowing and general side gardens dead plants & over taken by grass.

Review 65:We got a special deal, but only special in price.

Review 66:A little musty but clean -- I suspect it was more the age of the facility

Review 67:They had a nice pool area and the owner nerwere very pleasant and helpful -- directed us to a nice spot in town for dinner

Review 68:The shower drain was blocked, water took 20 min to drain away after your shower so you had to stand in the dirty water while you showered. same with the toilet you had to flush a few times, when we asked for more milk, the answer we got was you had 4 in your room.really outdated in desperate need of a makeover.

Review 69:Location was good. room size was good.

Review 70:1. The aircon dripping over entrance doorway. 2. Not good service when first arriving at very hot, locked up, reception. 3. Linen on bed very old and worn. 4. Breakfast was delivered to room evening before when we where out - butter and milk put in fridge but fridge not turned on. We found switch for this in the morning in the wardrobe. 5. Pool - although water clear lots of dirt on bottom of pool. 6. Stools and small table on terrace very dirty/dusty and garden unattended. 7. Really sad to see something that could be so pleasant, so sad and run down. Needs a new lease of life.

Review 71:The outside door onto the garden.

Review 72:Better if arriving by car as a bit far from anything if travelling by foot Air con didn't work - it looked pretty old so not sure if it usually does or if it was just broken on this occasion

Review 73:Tv, toaster, kettle & fridge in room Friendly staff Comfortable room View onto garden

Review 74:Very old and showing it's age. Reception not manned most of the time. Continental breakfast a bit dodgey.

Review 75:It was somewhere cheap to stay for the night and move on the next day.

Review 76:Staff didn't really give a warm welcome, the pool was dirty, really needed a clean, there were heaps of leaves n bugs etc in it, they didn't have the pump going, air con too noisy, and they didn't do dinner on a Sunday night.

Review 77:The pool and that our room opened up the back door and the pool was right there, and the air con kept the room real cold but couldn't leave it on because it was so noisy.

Review 78:The whole place just seemed rather tired, but with a little TLC it would look so much more appealing.

Review 79:The location was fine, and getting given our breakfast items in the evening seemed wacky. However this turned out to be okay as we sat in at a table in the garden and had our cereals, toast and juice at our leisure.

Review 80:The attitude on arrival by the owner herself- was made feel as if we were putting her out by booking in. Room was not ready to occupy- fridge not on and no bath towels etc.

Review 81:it is not a new shiny hotel, but the price was good, so everything was fine.

Review 82:I made a mistake while was booking, but the owner helped me and was very nice. It was nice to have a pool in the garden and the second "inner"door to it.

Review 83:Air conditioner was very high so I needed to stand on a chair to reach it. Didn't seem to cool the room much and was noisy. To change the breakfast order for the next day, you needed to be very early as supplies were delivered to our room mid afternoon.

Review 84:Enjoyed a swim in the pool each day. Happy to make our own breakfast and variety to choose from on the menu was good.

Review 85:The bathroom was clean but small. Not enough power points. Had to unplug one thing to plug in next kettle/toaster/microwave as well as recharge phones & computersoftware.

Review 86:We needed to be in Sale and this was the best priced room. Good comfortable big bed , plenty of space in the room.

Review 87:Fridge and air con didn't work, the breakfast was poor. There was someone being sick outside for a couple of hours early in the morning. The bathroom did not look satisfactory

Review 88:The Bed

Review 89:I'd struggle to find something to complain about

Review 90:The price we paid for the single room was very reasonable and the room had a large double bed. It was very clean. We would stay there again for sure.

Review 91:We checked in, arranged the breakfast menu & it arrived in our room by the time we got back getting dinner

Review 92:Shower & water pressure Bed air con

Review 93:Breakfast being given to us 14 hours before we were going to eat it! Very odd indeed.

Review 94:Rooms overlooked the pool and gardens which is a nice change. Rooms lovely and clean if old fashioned.

Review 95:Included breakfast was half a bowl of cereal, toast and small juice. Out dated facilities. Restaurant expensive.

Review 96:The layout of the Motel around the pool.

Review 97:In need of a major upgrade, shower wouldn't drain, continental breakfast was meager,

Review 98:Clean Cheap The faded & peeling Lufthansa posters on front entrance give you an inkling of general appearance of this establishment. Well cared for gardens.

Review 99:I did not like the decor. It was outdated. The hole in the bathroom sink was rusty.

Review 100:The lodge was very easy to find off the main road. The staff was very helpful & the room was pleasant & breakfast was served the day before upon arrival. There is a backyard with swings for kids to play. Bed was comfortable to sleep in. Continental breakfast was good. No kitchen provided in the room I stayed. I would give a 3 star rating in that it is value for money. Recommended for overnight stay.

Review 101:The motel was quite old and had a mildew smell to it. I didn't feel it to be as welcoming and good as advertised. Staff entered the room while we weren't in it that was disappointing.

Review 102:Owner could not find our booking details. Not Happy. Room was not ready. The room we were going to stay in was dirty. Was given a Second room. Ok. Not enough tea and coffee. Overall old and out dated...

Review 103:Easy access to highway. Bed comfortable. Free continental breakfast. Value for money.

Review 104:pillow was so thin. I didn't think to check the cupboards for a spare.

Review 105:as a last minute booking it was great to get a room at a cheap price. the venue was old but kept very neat and clean and had everything needed for a quick stay.

Review 106:Couldn't have dinner there as we had a hamburger at Omeo at 4pm but next visit we will try Elizabeth's cooking Door lock on room needed some attention

Review 107:we are well travelled people and fussy this is an old country motel some say in the comments outdated so What !!!! most country motels are.... Elizabeth was a delight free brekky was good... King bed was good and great value for money would we stay again Yes absolutely Last time we stayed in Sale at a big (A) international chain hotel never again Captain's is good

Review 108:Very helpful and friendly with no fuss made about our late arrival. She had left the door open for us and brought our breakfast in the morning. Many thanks

Review 109:I liked the fact they had my favourite German beer, Erdinger Dunkel - a lovely dark, thick wheat beer. It went down a real treat with the home-cooked roast, a lovely dinner. I'd go back.

Review 110:millipedes in the bed, bed linen did not look clean, and the ceiling in bathroom was leaking, torn curtains, we refused to stay there, and I did not get my thirty dollar deposit back

Review 111:Location

Review 112:A great welcome (homemade cake on arrival) thr schnizel was OK THE wine list interesting and good lighting the best yet snd we've been travelling in OZ for two months (poor lighting is a particular bugbear of mine )

Review 113:Owner complaining about internet booking and not being provided with the deal I booked which included breakfast. I was given a room for a lesser rate excluding breakfast so worked out ok in the end.

Review 114:Cheap

Review 115:The proprietor was not very helpful and the whole building needs updating from the 50's to today

Review 116:Comfortable, quiet location but out of town a bit, continental breakfast included which was a bonus, suited our requirements and price

Review 117:I know it's included but hey, be a bit more generous with the brekkie cereal!!!!!

Review 118:Good value for the price. Old school motel, not fancy but effective.

Review 119:Place is very tired looking. Furnishings a bit worn. Slight musty smell. Got what I paid for though, so happy.

Review 120:Staff accommodated my late arrival. Good value for money. Pool looked inviting from my window.

Review 121:Breakfast included every day on the last night we had all our leftoversinstead of going out for dinner as we had our dinner outside in thegardens which was very relaxing setting the owner elizabeth come outwith a delicious home made cake for us thanks for a relaxing stayelizabeth does a great job running the whole motel by her self thankyouagain vicki wright

Review 122:Electric blanket too small for bed and we had to remove it for comfort sake. Old breakfast left in room in servery box and had gone mouldy.

Review 123:Other than the old breakfast, room was clean.

Review 124:The shower in the room did not drain away, I was standing in water to my shins, it was very cold, when the heater/air conditioning put on was very noisy,

Review 125:The location to my friend,

Review 126:Owner/manager used own key to enter room while we were sleeping to deliver breakfast after 8:30 pm. A glass with juice was broken and partially cleaned up without waking us and leaving broken glass on the floor. This was discovered when we needed to use the bathroom later in the night. A frightening experience!

Review 127:Pleasant courtyard.

Review 128:Out of town. No restaurant open. Inadequate lighting. Room not prepared, although we were only guests, e.g.toilet roll not replaced, power points for air con. and fridge hidden in dark cupboard and not connected, TV not connected. Top set box for old TV not working and had to be replaced. Shower not draining. No cutlery provided with continental breakfast until requested.

Review 129:At first I couldn't find it. The bookings map indicated I had to drive through Sale and head towards Maffra and it was near the race course. But it isn't. Google maps couldn't find it but a search of the hotel name yielded a map with a correct location. It is Melbourne side of Sale, just turn left at the roundabout to Wurruk primary school and it is on your left (that is if you are coming from Melbourne). Reception was unattended (it was 5pm) but a helpful gardener showed me where to ring the bell, which was obvious, I was just in a bit of a panic at this stage, and a lady quickly appeared. She was casual as she looked for my booking which 'wasn't there when she had checked at 11am', oh look there are three bookings! I went to my room, it was dated and simple but large and clean. The bed was comfortable and I slept well being far enough from the highway I didn't hear it. I found the doona adequate, it was a cold night but I did not need the electric blanket provided. The next morning the sun was shining and I enjoyed my continental breakfast (which was included in the $72) as I looked out into a spacious garden area containing a central pool. All in all I would have to say this motel is not flash but it is comfortable and very good value for money.

Review 130:Not much to dislike, basic but good.

Review 131:The central gardens & pool area is great, rooms are compact but comfortable with good heating and comfortable bed. Older style but the bargain price is a winner and continental breakfast included when using Booking.Com.

Review 132:Hotel was closed for business only took booking as I was made through booking.com. Front door of room 2 would not open easily, Tiles fell of wall in shower & the toilet would not flush properly .

Review 133:We were only guests in motel

Review 134:No pay TV, but local channels had adequate viewing for 1 night. Heater controls missing Bathroom facilities a bit "old style".

Review 135:Excellent price @ $70 for last minute booking. Very quiet location. Great electric blanket. Would recommend for short stays especially for business / trades

The Fine Print

Please not that due to construction of the new highway, Captains Lodge International is now located on the corner of Fisk Street and the Old Princess Highway.
