Reviews for Hotel Italia e Lido Rapallo

Review 1:The most small room that I've never been (including the bathroom) the breakfast was just ok, very poor in variety. The most unpleasant thing, is that the double bed was actually two single beds join together. When we ask for a change, the guy said to us that we have to request in the morning because he didn't have a similar room to change. We slept for 3 nights like this.

Review 2:Really good location, near to the train station.

Review 3:The breakfast was disappointing on a couple of mornings as the buffet was not refreshed, despite us bring in the restaurant within 30 minutes of the start of breakfast.

Review 4:Location can't be bettered. The hotel is only yards away from the Med and within a couple of minutes walking distance from a multitude of good quality restaurants.

Review 5:Wonderful location nearby the sea and castlethe. Good place to stay to enjoy Rapallo by day and night. The balcony was large with fantastic view, ideal for watching sunset. Walking distance of Rapallo pedestrian zone and restaurants. Breakfast was buffet-type, very satisfying. Free parking.

Review 6:amazing view to the sea and the castle of rapallo. great location right on the coast in the center of rapallo, 8 minutes walking from the train station. big bathroom with window to the street side wich gave us another interesting view. clean and nice room.

Review 7:The staff were Professional and attentive and knowledgeable. The location very good. Because the hotel is family owned there is a sense of history to it. Very good for the literary minded.

Review 8:Beautiful views and wonderful location. Restaurants just opposite and next door. Easy walk via all the shops to the beach and bus stops nearby for getting back. Parking worked out fine.

Review 9:The Manager (male) was very rude. No tea coffee facility outside of restaurant hours

Review 10:Location. Lovely lady who worked in the restaurant and made a pot of tea for us in the evening Great breakfast!! Bed and bath clean Close to ferry and rail

Review 11:the shower was a little small, but this Europe after all!

Review 12:I had a stunning view from my balcony! there was a table and chairs so I could linger there! the staff was great, when I asked them where I could rent a bicycle, they lent me one for free! the breakfast was buffet-type, very satisfying. All in all, I would definitely book this hotel again!!

Review 13:Rapallo is a delightful town. The hotel is right by the shore and the view from the first floor superior room was superb. The terrace balcony was large and ideal for watching sunset, tho you are visible to passing pedestrians. Breakfast was included and good. Restaurants we tried nearby were disappointing and overpriced. We walked from here to Portofino. There are many beautiful walks

Review 14:The room was quite small and very ordinary. Room cleaning could been better.

Review 15:Wonderful seaside location, the exact place to stay to enjoy Rapallo by day or night.

Review 16:Window of the room looked to the street side, while they have rooms with sea front

Review 17:The room was clean, good shower room. Excellent location. Friendly staff.

Review 18:limited car park and interior of rooms could be renewed / more decorated

Review 19:the location is really great - sea view and extremely convenient for boat trips to 5 terre and Portofino as well as train connection to Genova; reception staff really helpful

Review 20:Some noise from people coming in late, however this is hardly the hotels fault. Although better soundproofing may be a way forward.

Review 21:Location was fantastic, had considered another hotel in the area but am pleased that we went with this one. Proximity to bars and restaurants is a bonus.

Review 22:Rooms are in desperate need of an update. If updated this could be an amazing hotel given the location.

Review 23:Great location and staff were very helpful. Good view from the room.

Review 24:the bedroom with terrace although the situation was great, the room was split into too many compartments for our taste, and the terrace was more open than we thought. Management was excellent and changed our room and were extremely helpful over the matter. So no complaints.

Review 25:the location and helpfulness of the staff

Review 26:If you can't get into Portofino, then stay in Santa Margherita rather than Rapallo.

Review 27:Within walking distance of downtown Rapallo pedestrian zone and restaurants. Right on the beach. Simple on-site parking.

Review 28:No kettle in room to make a cuppa but this is not unusual in Italy.

Review 29:Great location. I had balcony on sea front with great water views. Good breakfast. Handy for train station and supermarket. Fridge and safe in wardrobe with lots of coat hangers.

Review 30:Sometimes the WIFI connection was not very good

Review 31:I was given the sea-view room on my arrival even if the ordinary room was booked, and loved it a lot. Very good friendly staff, wonderful breakfast. Very good bed. Will definitely stay again. Thank you!

Review 32:Some of the front desk staff was more helpful than others. The air conditioning never really cooled the room so we were uncomfortable throughout the night.

Review 33:Hotel is in the perfect location for Rapallo. Central to everything with magnificent views of the Bay.

Review 34:The staff, specifically Laila at the reception desk was delightful, helpful, and patient. The parking, while very limited, was incredibly convenient. The view is breathtaking.

Review 35:The hotel didn't have any bad points

Review 36:The view from a superior sea view room, staff were friendly, breakfast was good and plentiful. Parking at the front of the hotel although if not available it's only 10 euro per day in public parking

Review 37:The beds are not really comfortable

Review 38:Location is perfect , if you want to visit portofino staying at rapaollo is a prefect choice! The hotel is super close to the train station and the ferry station:) pls stay here if you want to go portofino!

Review 39:The place is very outdated and gives the impression it was once very glamorous, but certainly isn't any more. Given we were the youngest guests by about 40 years I think they same people have been coming to the hotel since those days. If you just want a base to explore the area from and it's more about location than luxury then this is perfect and it's not bad value at all given the general price of the area.

Review 40:Location couldn't be better. Great view of the old castle and over Rapallo. Lovely to sit on the balcony and watch the world go by. Rooms are very basic but clean.

Review 41:Private beach is concrete patio of Neighbouring Bar / Restaurant (Access via their cellar), although reasonably priced drinks & snacks

Review 42:Good Location, large room with balcony & view of castle and bay. Ferry trips to Portofino nearby. Easy walk into town

Review 43:Bed and pillows a bit hard for my liking but that's up to each individual

Review 44:Great stay, Location is perfect, waers edge at your footsteps, train/buses and ferries all within minutes to go to cinque Terre/ portifino

Review 45:We spent a wonderful week in Rapallo in this hotel. The hotel is in the centre, lot of good reataurants was within 3-5 minutes walk. We had a balcony with table and chairs where we could sit and watch the sea in the evening. The hotel has a small but suitable beach. Lot of people wrote that the bathroom is smal. That is true, but the room was big enough. There was acooler and safe as well in it (wasn't write in the hotel description) The staff was fantastic, pleasant, helpful. I can suggest this hotel everybody.

Review 46:1. The beach is so small, dirty, and overrated. You can't see the water due to so many people. 2. There are like 4 parking slots for 50 guests :-( 3. Air conditioning didn't work in the night. Ok, probably someone would help, but we didn't want to stand up at 3am. 4. We arrived too early and couldn't leave the luggage at the reception.

Review 47:The terrasse and the bathroom was nice.

Review 48:it didn't look like the hotel had been updated for 30 years. The carpets in the corridor were threadbare. We didn't realise a city view meant bad rooms. Understand the sea view rooms were better. 4 great hotels in five days northern Italy. This wasn't one.

Review 49:I loved the location.

Review 50:The location is excelent, the breakfast is good and the staff is very kind and helpfull. They have some bikes available and the view from the rooms are amazing. I recomend it.

Review 51:The rooms don't look like they have been updated since about the 70's which was fine. It kind of added to the quaintness of it. What I struggled with was the pillows!! They were REALLY hard and flat. I ended up with a really sore and stiff neck.

Review 52:The location and the view was perfect. I got a double room with a sea view and it was just beautiful to look out, especially in the evenings.

Review 53:The room decor was cheap and no frills- not a very romantic stay.

Review 54:The location was perfect if you are going to stay in Rapallo. The outdoor waterfront area (10 euros per day per person) is a great way to spend an afternoon. The breakfast is a full buffet breakfast and all of the staff at the hotel were lovely.

Review 55:We arrived here after 8 days of travelling and it was absolute bliss. The balconies have one of the most amazing views in the world and the location is perfect for exploring the local area/restaurants and bars etc. highly recommended.

Review 56:Their waitress who was a great English speaker was very helpful and she went the extra mile for my daughter who had many food allergies! Good spot to stay if you are wanting to go to cinque terre, however always make sure you check train times/schedules!!

Review 57:Excellent location, very close to the station and the sea. The staff were very helpful and friendly. Hotel always clean and wonderful restaurant overlooking the sea. I would highly recommend staying here.

Review 58:wifi connection in the room was poor.

Review 59:very good location,i recommend room with sea view, very friendly and helpfull reception, speciall thanks for Luciana.

Review 60:It is too much noise. Next door and the street. You cannot sleep while the windows open or it is not that easy to sleep while the air condition is on

Review 61:Location, breakfast and staff are nice

Review 62:The first night, we got a room with a view of the Mediterranean. The view was the best from a hotel room that we'd ever seen! However, the room was very old. The bathroom was very small, there were no spare electrical outlets, and the elevator getting up to this side of the hotel could barely fit two people. And the air conditioning was very poor in the room, making the stay very difficult on a summer day/night. It's possible that not all sea view rooms are like this one, however, since it seemed to differ from some of the pictures. So if you book a sea view room, we might recommend double checking on some of the amenities with the hotel staff.

Review 63:The second night, we switched to a room on the other side of the hotel. It was like a completely different hotel! There was no view, but the room was modern and everything inside was great, including the air conditioning.

Review 64:Our airconditioner kept cutting out. Had to pay 10 euros to swim in the beach in front of the place, yet local beach was next door and free. Only problem we found with local beach was the rubbish that use to float up near the beach. One day we found a couple of bandaids!

Review 65:We loved how close it was to everything and the views of the harbour.

Review 66:Very good. Nothing wrong

Review 67:Superb! The lady that welcomed me was so lovely and friendly. I always mark this as a great start to a stay. She was always so cheerful and quick to be helpful. The place can't be any better located. The castle was outside my window!! The room was very comfortable and the balcony I had overlooked the sea and castle. Great bed and clean room. Breakfast was lovely and everyone so kind.

Review 68:Can be a bit noisy with the small beach right outside.

Review 69:Great location right by the castle. Very pleasant staff. The weather was extremely hot during my stay but the air conditioning in the room was excellent. Very nice breakfast with bacon and eggs which was a real bonus.

Review 70:Nothing

Review 71:Everything was excellent from the balcony views, to the staff, the room and the town itself. Sensational harbour/Marina views and stunning part of the country. Highly recommend paying a few extra dollars for the sea view room.

Review 72:Room was dowdy and dull as was whole hotel which looks as though it needs a facelift its in a spectacular position and I guess in its day was special. Sadly that's some time ago now..

Review 73:This hotel is perfection. Great location, cozy atmosphere, nice and helpful staff!! Could not have Ickes a better place to stay for a girls getaway in Italy!!

Review 74:We had absolutely no problems during our stay. There was some noise from the street and beach when the balcony doors were open, but it was not a serious problem. Room selection is critical - we had a third floor room with sea view and it was great. Rooms facing the road would be noisy.

Review 75:Large airy room (though bathroom was rather small), with spectacular view from room and balcony. Friendly staff and good breakfast. We were lucky and got one of the eight free parking spaces, and left our car there for the entire stay. Hotel has a very good sea-front position, without a road between the hotel and the sea.

Review 76:There was a small dog in a room just down the hall that I heard barking during the night. But hotel is pet friendly so it is to be expected.

Review 77:We had a sea view room with private balcony. Wow so worth the upgrade. Room was very large and very clean. Hotel in perfect location, breakfast good selection, staff very helpful and friendly.

Review 78:Rubbish in the water. Hotel owners should get together with local council to have it cleaned on a daily bases. A good worker could get it clean in 30 minutes.

Review 79:Wonderful setting, everything close at hand. Fantastic views from our balcony.

Review 80:The decor is definitely tired and the room small.

Review 81:At the recommendation of others we had a room with balcony, a lovely view of the castle, beach and the water. It was quite warm but the a/c worked!

Review 82:We spent three weeks in Florence, Tuscany, and Rapallo, Italy. Our last stop was Rapallo, and we stayed at Hotel Italia e Lido. Our room was small by American standards, but designed in a way to be more than adequate. Our room had been renovated very nicely and the room, bed and bathroom were like new and very comfortable. We were on the fourth floor, and had a terrace with a stunning view of the harbor. The hotel is within easy walking distance to all the best downtown venues, shops, and many excellent restaurants. Free parking is not a problem with overflow parking a few steps away. The free breakfast at the hotel is simply scrumptious. Do not miss the breakfast. The staff was very kind, gracious, and was extremely helpful about directions and gave us accurate and helpful advice helping us get the most out the Rapallo experience. We took the train to Cinque Terre, but were not impressed. The towns are certainly laid out nicely on the hills, but many buildings need repair and painting. We found the restaurants were just OK, but the shops do not offer anything new or better than other Italian towns. Two things we would urge you to do in Rapallo are as follows. One, take a boat ride, a few steps from the hotel, to visit St. Margherita and Portofino. Both have very good shops and restaurants, but Portofino is very expensive.Second, one the highlights of our trip was taking the cable car up the mountain (a short walk from the hotel) to the Church on top of the mountain. The cable ride up the mountain offers a magnificent view of Rapallo, its bay and the Mediterranean. The Church is stunningly beautiful, and we lucked out when we got to the Church and there was a wedding going on for a young Italian couple. We decided to eat at the Albergo Ristorante “il Pellegrino” which is a beautiful short walk up the side of the mountain on a tree-lined path. We did not know anything about this restaurant, but we were pleasantly surprised.

Review 83:The rooms with view and balconies all have different furnishings. Mine was from Goodwill

Review 84:The view of the fort and harbor are great, and the location couldn't be better.

Review 85:Italian beds tend to be a bit hard Pillows are real thin. But pretty much every hotel or inn in Italy has this issue.

Review 86:Overlooking the bay. Nice restaurant. Great area to go walking and shopping Staff was friendly and helpful. Very nice stay. I would recommend this property highly.

Review 87:The hotel is in a wonderful location right on the coast, with the seaside castle just outside the front door of the hotel. It's an easy walk from the train station, as well. Lots of restaurants nearby.

Review 88:Needed to ask for extra bedding for our room which had been booked as a twin. The pull out bed was very uncomfortable.

Review 89:Handy to centre and waterfront. Parking was great.

Review 90:Double room we'd booked was no more than a single - the inadequate bathroom had been inserted into an already small space. The management were graciously apologetic and moved us to a better room the next day.

Review 91:Location at one end of the bay with a nice long walk along the promenade and through the main harbour. The proximity to several decent restaurants. We were able to park immediately outside the hotel free of charge.

Review 92:The hotel is perfectly situated: it offers the perfect view over the bay of Rapallo, easy access by foot to the local Rapallo train station and it sits right next to the old 16th century castle. In addition friendly and very helpful staff

Review 93:I would not have been coming to this hotel over the years if I was not going to have an enjoyable visit.

Review 94:It is now ten years since I first started coming to this hotel. The hotel has an attractive location in Rapallo, adjacent to the Castello and overlooking the promenade (lungomare). The reception staff are some of the most professional staff I have met, having stayed in many hotels throughout Europe. Very friendly, very helpful, extremely informative and able to speak in various languages. On this visit I enjoyed the advantage of using a hotel computer (which I assumed was for guest use !) and it saved me bringing my own. I only used the restaurant for breakfast, which I found to be acceptable, although perhaps not it is not as varied as some. Although the hotel is in a prime location, it is pleasantly quiet, perhaps because the majority of the guests were of or near to pensionable age. If you want a noisy hotel, don't book here !

Review 95:The internet was a little slow, that's all.

Review 96:The location is perfect!!!! Friendly staff who really want to make you happy and vicinity to everything.

Review 97:Room fit-out is like in a hostel. Breakfast of this kind in Italy - it's a shame!

Review 98:Perfect location and views. Helpful and friendly staff. Convenient parking.

Review 99:Nothing.

Review 100:It s a must-visit hotel with a super view. They have the best wifi I have ever seen in a hotel, in case it is important for you. I would definitely stay there again myself and I do recommend it to everyone.

Review 101:Car park is a bit problem, there are only 8 slots, if you miss those you need to pay for car park.

Review 102:Perfect location, by the coast very central. Breakfast is ok, above average of European hotels and nice to have your breakfast by the coast view. It’s a fairly clean hotel. Staff at the reception was friendly and helpful.

Review 103:Every thing in this very romantic hotel was perfect.Location just directly facing the see and famous Rapallo Castle and only 100 meter from Train Station . Room was very spacious with very wonderful view for the see. Breakfast was very good with all varieties that you may need. It is very ideal for day trips to Portofino and Cinque Terre I do recommend this fantastic hotel to every one

Review 104:This hotel exceeded my expectations. Beautiful setting, comfortable and well appointed sea view room. Service from staff was excellent - friendly and professional at all times and really helpful with my travel plans.

Review 105:The quality and size of the room Location, sea front and convenient access to the railway station and ferry boat stop. Full buffet breakfast, including scrambled eggs and bacon

Review 106:Common areas - corridors, rather tired and in need of a refurb. Parking was difficult - but we did find free space by the church 100 metres away - then left the car there for the duration of our stay

Review 107:We had a room with a terrace, beautiful, lots of space and really enjoyed it - well worth the extra money. Breakfast was good, plenty of choice including scrambled eggs and bacon

Review 108:Go for breakfast a little earlier because the best tables facing the sea are usually taken up after 9.

Review 109:Amazing location by the sea. The only small stretch of beach in Rapallo is right in front of the hotel. Better views of the sea, marina and castle than other more expensive hotels. I took a single room facing inland which was really a good deal at 50 euros a night. There is a church just at the back so I was awaken by church bells in the morning. This I enjoyed because it was so Italy. There is a supermarket (Billa) just minutes away from the hotel, on the way to the train station. It has roast chicken and some prepared meals so you can easily have a light meal instead of having one at the restaurant.

Review 110:The staff was friendly and helpful. The breakfast was good and the location was excellent for exploring the waterfront with accommodating transportation by ferry to Portofino and by train to Cinque Terre. Also, parking was free for guests. The room was comfortable with a balcony overlooking the harbor, castle, beach and pedestrian traffic.

Review 111:I do not like hard beds. Some of the rooms are very old and not up to standard. We traveled with some friends and they did not have a good room, complained and were given another room which was better but still very old.

Review 112:Location is great. Right on the waters edge. Not far from the railway station. Turn immediate left when you exit the station and walk no more than 5 minutes then turn right at the end of the road [no other option but to turn right] then walk another couple of minutes to the hotel. Our shower was great and our bathroom recently renovated and was sensational. Ask for room 107.

Review 113:I decided to spend a little extra for the sea view room and was placedin a back corner room with no sea view from the window. On top of that, the room was filled with almost 100 mosquitos and when I asked to bemoved, the receptionist handed me bug spray and said there was nothingshe could do. After telling her it was unacceptable and I'd be eatenalive, she then placed me in another room for one night (after sayingshe didn't have anything else available). I had to move my 2ndnight, so I couldn't even unpack or settle in.I was moved back to the mosquito room (after her telling me it was cleaned), but as I expected... Bugs all around! I had to plead with her to give me another room. She hesitantly gave me another room again with no sea view. Let's just say they have a drawer of mosquito repellent in the lobby so I suspect many of the rooms have this problem. Lastly, they have a private "beach" or dock for guests except you have to pay 10 euros!!! You're better off going to the bigger beaches.

Review 114:Views from the restaurant are nice, breakfast is ok but the rooms areoutdated and old.

Review 115:Very lovely staff, room was great for a single. Location is of course excellent, restaurant was also most enjoyable. Parking was offered nearby at cost which was very useful in a busy resort, best to reserve in advance.

Review 116:Almost impossible to park near the hotel. Private parking is very small - just for 6-7 cars. Parkings nearby (for charge) are also full (in August). Poor breakfast. Shower is very "weak" by power even on the 2nd floor.

Review 117:Sea view (room 210), great location in the center of resort and 5 min walking to the railway station. Helpful stuff at the reception. Big room (approx. 22 sqm).

Review 118:Parking, breakfast could be more exciting

Review 119:Perfect location, however parking is a challenge, service-oriented and helpful personnel, nice rooms and perfect with sea view and terrace

Review 120:The furniture is getting a little worn but everything is clean and comfortable.

Review 121:Great views, kind staff, and nice spaced room with a balcony. We ate a small dinner out on the balcony every night as you can't beat the views.

Review 122:Is there anything negative?

Review 123:Let´s see, it is a little bit difficult for me to be objective given the fact that we had such a wonderful time in Rapallo. I was there with my sister in mid June and stayed for two nights. Although it is true the parking spaces are scarce, we could park the car a block from the hotel. In any case, who cares about that? It is impossible not to have a great time both in Rapallo and in the hotel. The seaview is great, you can´t just stop staying there and watching. The lungomare, the palmtrees, the castle, the people and of course the restaurants, all of them are worthy. We went for one night and stayed two days. And really, don´t stay in Portofino, is not worthy. Rapallo is much nicer. The hotel stuff is great, specially Simon, who works in the afternoons. The breakfast is ok for a three-star hotel with milk, handmade juice, cereal, toasts, jam, fruit and pastries. And you have it by the sea! Also you will find pictures everywhere about the famous hotel guests and the history of the place which goes back to the thirties. Do stay here, you won´t regret it!

Review 124:Parking can be difficult, but close to the hotel there is a public parking, where we found place after some waiting... The rooms are old, but functional.

Review 125:The hotel location is superb with the most fantastic sea view of the bay. The a la carte restaurante is excellent and the staff is very gentle and helpful. They also arranged late check out and taking our little kitten with us, was no problem. You can purchase water and soft drinks cheap from a vending machine! Very useful.

Review 126:Room freezing even after the air was on off still blew out. Had to sleep in jacket. Toilet didn't flush properly and maintenance wasn't sent only maid

Review 127:Nice location on water good windows to view out

Review 128:If you're allergic to mid-70's shades of brown then you won't like the corridors, which feel a little tired. But the rooms are fine.

Review 129:It is not an 'outstanding' hotel, but it is fine for the price. Obviously, rooms facing the sea (and the castle) are to be preferred (note: the castle isn't always lit up - so it loses some of its romance). If you are thinking of visiting Portofino (because you're 'curious') then definitely stay in Rapallo (or Santa Margerita) and just visit for the day (there are hourly ferries). Breakfast was fine (by Italian standards!)

The Fine Print
