Reviews for Hotel Charleston
Review 1:The hotel was a bit too far away from the train station. The staff advised us against a restaurant (I guess because the owners had a fight once) which we visited and was great.
Review 2:Good location in the town, but far away from the train and uphill, nice staff, good rooms, great breakfast.
Review 3:Was disappointed in my single room. Very small, no wardrobe or closet, no flat screen TV as advertised, (just mentioning. I don't watch TV) and the shower actually backed up in the floor drain in the center of the bath partially flooding the room.
Review 4:Great location and nice to have a parking garage. Stall friendly and helpful, common areas warm and cozy.
Review 5:We erred in making a long walk from the train station to the hotel. Better to have inquired about bus and taxi options ahead of time.
Review 6:Friendly, helpful staff and comfortable room.
Review 7:Liked everything
Review 8:Hotel charleston is the best place to stay. The staff is helpful friendly. Spoleto and the hotel is very clean and safe. We will come back and stay longer next year
Review 9:Hard pillows, no quilt covers on bed, areas of room needed upgrading.
Review 10:Location was good but area is very steep so have to be fit to get around. Hotel is directly across square from the collicola gallery which is well worth a visit. Other attractions are easily reached using city escalators system once you work out where the entrances are. The hotel itself is a bit run down and in need of some refurbishment. The rooms are adequate but do not seem to match the images online. The pillows were like rocks and made it difficult to get comfortable. The beds did not have covers on the quilts and that is unacceptable given their use in a hotel. Breakfasts were good and the woman serving was very personable and very welcoming. She remembered what we wanted to drink each morning and brought the coffees to us soon after we were seated. She and the female receptionist kindly found a dentist for one of our group who needed some emergency dental work done. We were struck by the kindness of the female staff in this hotel.
Review 11:Great little hotel in a good location. Walking distance to most things in old city but taxi ride to station. Buffet breakfast was good with fruit yoghurt cereal cheese salami etc and a selection of cakes.
Review 12:The wifi was not superfast, but at least there was a wifi.
Review 13:This is a charming little hotel in a charming little town. We had a supernice room and a supernice time, enjoying Umbrias local delights.
Review 14:There was a spare table with no chairs for us at breakfast. The staff could have rounded up three chairs if they could have been bothered. We had to eat breakfast seated at a garden table (low level
Review 15:Good location. Lots of character. Helpful staff.
Review 16:Bad advice on taking a bus to the train station. I was told by the deskclerk that the bus stop was right outside, in front of the church. Thatwas true! But the bus didn't go to the train station. Had it notbeen for the kindness of a local I never would've gotten there. Shegot off with me at another bus stop and we ran to another hotel, wherethe owner actually drove me in time to catch the train. Apparently thereare very few taxis available in Spoleto.
Review 17:Good choice for attendance at the Spoleto festival. Easy walking,(well... Lots of Uphill! But that's true throughout the city!)
Review 18:We booked several months before coming to Spoleto. We requested an AC room, high floors possibly with a view. They tried to give us a very hot room with no AC in an outside building, suggesting we could use the fan! It was 36 degrees in early July! I refused. We arrived at 13.00 hrs as expected and had to wait over one hour for our bad hot room, then we had to leave for our first show and finally when we returned later we were ushered into our new ok room. They tried to tell me that I had not specified the AC room, which is nonesense. This is a something that often happens when you book with bookings.com. The hotel seems to want to give their regular local customers the better rooms which were already confirmed for people booking from abroad. They did the same stunt with my cousin, who arrived a little later but was booked by me at the same time. They tried to give her the hot room they had initially proposed to me!! That was not cool at all. Finally after a great del of complaining and getting irritated, they gave her a poky small room with AC with a tiny window high up on the wall that you could not look out. Not impressed at all. The location was superb and breakfast good.
Review 19:The staff was very welcoming and helpful. In addition to the comfortable rooms, we appreciated being able to park the car at the hotel, which is very rare in Spoleto.
Review 20:A little strange that upon check-in, the clerk insisted in walking us to three different rooms to see if we wanted an upgrade.
Review 21:The history of the building and the way original components were left in the remodeling. Vary friendly & helpful front desk
Review 22:Uncomfortable double bed room 44 very hard springs, I menioned it to the staff
Review 23:Wonderful stay especially finding a piano to play in the lounge, wonderful location next to the modern art museum and one minute walk uphill to Corso Mazzini
Review 24:Wi fi only available in lobby and public areas, not in rooms.
Review 25:Quiet, very nice lounging and sitting room with wi-fi and a small bar. Free breakfast. Helpful staff.
Review 26:The odor from the toilet or sewer late at night and in the morning makes an exhaust fan necessary. My 1st night the bathroom was without an exhaust fan but fortunately they changed my room upon request for the 2nd night and which did have an exhaust fan that helped to lessen the sewage odor. The web site does not advertise that the sauna costs 20 euro. Also, the taxi from the train station costs 15 euro so during the weekday it may be better to take the 2 shuttle buses even with the 15 minute transfer wait between them.
Review 27:Room was clean and comfortable, breakfast was fine and the location is good.
Review 28:The sound insulation inside the rooms is not great. We had some noisy neighbours and some with a very early start - both kept us awake.
Review 29:This is an old fashioned proper Italian hotel and good value for money. We had a room on the second floor with a window onto the piazza in front and, given some very unseasonably warm October weather, we enjoyed having our nightcaps in the outside seating area, also facing onto the piazza.
Review 30:What a delightful place! The hotel is lovely, the staff is fantastic!! They made my stay in Spoleto a highlight of my month in Italy :-) From simple directions and recommendations, to arranging for a driver to escort me on sidetrips. But mostly, I appreciated the smiles and genuine warmth of the wonderful staff!! My next trip to Italy will definitely include a return visit to the Hotel Charleston!!!! GRAZIE MILLE!!!!
Review 31:The location is excellent. Lovely room with a hand painted fresco. The staff was warm and helpful. The receptionist spent about a 1/2 hour giving me detailed instructions about finding the bike path from Speleto to Assisi. Information that I could not get anywhere else including the city information office
Review 32:Would have loved to have wifi in the rooms.
Review 33:Location location location. And charming room and staff. Loved our all too brief stay! Thank you Hotel Charleston!!!
Review 34:Not hotel fault, but taxi ? to hotel from station was 15 euro for 1 km is too expensive
Review 35:Nice hotel ?
Review 36:Friendly helpful good location
Review 37:one member of staff was a bit snooty towards us (the others were very pleasant)
Review 38:situation and comfort
Review 39:Helpful staff, good location, clean room, wonderful town.
Review 40:the room was very cold. I wouldn't recommend this hotel for anyone visiting during the winter!!!
Review 41:Sauna not included in the price!
Review 42:Newly reformed room! Great internet!
Review 43:Nice overall style of the hotel, especially of lobby area with fireplace
Review 44:The room was beautifully designed. Very helpful staff
Review 45:Hotel had character, friendly staff, comfortable bed and in a brilliant location
Review 46:Nothing
Review 47:Location, building, garage
Review 48:There was nothing I did not like!
Review 49:The Hotel Charlston is in a fantastic Location right in the heart of Spoleto, close to restaurants and many of the beautiful walks around the area. The staff went above and beyond to assist us in enjoying our stay. The hotel is spotless and the rooms were adequate. The bed was comfy and the bathroom although small was clean. Breakfast was enjoyable again with the staff going to the trouble of fitting in with my dietary requirements. Will definitely return to this hotel on future visits.
Review 50:Staffing:On arrival at 7 pm there was no one at reception. After a wait of 10 to 15 minutes a receptionist arrived from what appeared to be a restaurant over the square. We asked about parking the car as the square was a non parking area. However there was not parking immediately available in the garage as a party of cyclists had stored their bikes in the last parking space. The receptionist promised that she would move all the bikes within the hour. The car was eventually parked safely in the garage while we had a drink on the patio. As the only person on duty she not only had to show us to our rooms, provide drinks from the bar, answer the telephone and move the bikes! It was chaotic!Rooms:Single room: The single room was provided with a small double bed which hardly fitted into the room and with no space for a bed-side table. There was no fridge and no glass to drink from. There was very little space to place the suitcase except on the only chair.Double room: My friends had taken the trouble, at their own expense, to phone the hotel from the UK to request a quiet room and found themselves next to an old fashion noisy lift which operated late into the night and early in the morning. They complained the next day and the hotel staff admitted their error. They were transferred to another room for the second night causing them significant inconvenience in moving their things.Fridge:A fridge was provided on the second day. We were informed that, due to the heat wave, several fridges had broken down and needed repairing.Eating out:We asked for a recommendation of a place which had atmosphere, good food and wine and were given the address of a restaurant close to the cathedral a good 15 minutes walk away where we were to ask for the house wine. When we arrived there was no one else at the restaurant. We had wanted to eat outside but the flies were so bad we had to escape inside. When we asked for the house wine it had run out!
Review 51:Central location within walking distance of many interesting sights, the market and wine shop.
Review 52:Lovely staff. Very clean and comfortable room. Booked a single and was delighted to be given a double room. Very central but quiet location in the historical centre of Spoleto. It was perfect.
Review 53:Having to leave.... We really enjoyed Spoleto; a lovely town with great cafes and restaurants
Review 54:Our room (341) was amazing; accessed by its own little flight of stairs it had views on all 4 sides. Lovely and comfortable with a huge bed.
Review 55:This was a lovely character hotel. The staff were friendly and helpful and I was even allowed to pose in the fiat 500 belonging to one the Concierge. There is a lovely outdoor breakfast terrace which we also enjoyed at night. The bed was great and so were the pillows. The buffet breakfast had a large variety of options including savory. .
Review 56:Some noise in the evening from another hotel nearby. My single room wasa little bit small, but very comfortable; I dit not complain about it,but the hotelowners spontaneously apologized and gave me a present tomake up for it.
Review 57:My room was very tastefully decorated; a combination of old elements(wooden beams) and modern design. Very professional electricalinstallation (tv, fire-alarm, airco, lightning). Friendly hotelowners.Good breakfast. Good value for money.
Review 58:We stayed at the hotel on other occasions and loved it. The hotel made good renovations and added energy saving measures in the guest rooms. They honoured our request for a large, matrimonial room. The staff were friendly and helpful with restaurant suggestions. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and the added benefit of the hotel sauna. We shall return! Vera and Emmanuel
Review 59:Everything about the hotel was lovely. Rooms were clean and spacious. Breakfast was lovely and our hostess in the breakfast room was charming and very accommodating. Everyone at the front desk was helpful...and a special thank you to Christiana for being so much fun. I will never forget cento vente uno! This is a charming hotel in a terrific location within a lovely city. We hope to go back to Spoleto.
Review 60:The hotel is delightful, and we have returned several times. The staff is friendly and very helpful. One bonus--the hotel has adjacent parking, making it very convenient. The breakfasts are fine.
Review 61:Welcoming staff, very helpful when we tried to find a low sugar drink for diabetic son from bar. The room was spacious, clean and comfortable. The breakfast was better then the average continental ones we have had, with a good selection of meats cheese, pastries and cakes. We only stayed for one night ,but could have gladly stayed longer.
Review 62:The shower could do with improving - water pressure low.
Review 63:A comfortable, well-run hotel, which we enjoyed staying in. We had a lovely room, with small balcony. Although near one of the main roads into Spoleto, it was quiet at night. The hotel is right in the old city of Spoleto, a fascinating and lovely old city, with plenty of sights to visit, plus beautiful mountain walks easily accessible from the hotel. The staff were friendy and helpful, the breakfast good and the room comfortable. I would definitely recommend this hotel.
