Review 2:I don’t think I am a qualified reviewer for hotels, but I must share a special memorable experience at an albergo in Ragusa Ibla, Sicily. This December 2015, I travelled to Sicily for the first time. The hill town of Ragusa Ibla was my choice for a nine-day stay. Through Booking.com, I have selected Giardino sul Duomo as a home base for visiting other nearby towns. It is centrally located near Piazza Duomo and most importantly for me, it is only a few doors across from the famed, Michelin two-starred Ristorante Duomo. After two hours of driving from the Catania Airport, I had miraculously found a parking space in front of Giardino sul Duomo. A bellboy, I thought, greeted me at the gate. Not until later I found out this friendly young man, Michele, was actually the proprietor of this wonderful albergo. As he led me through the idyllic garden to my suite, it felt as if I had been received at a Relais & Chateaux establishment. This was the quiet season for hotels in Ragusa. Michele personally served me tea and cake and found time to spend the rest of the afternoon providing me with valuable information about Ragusa with its indigenous food and wine, plus nearby places to visit in this unique southeastern part of Sicily. During our relaxing discussions, Michele was happy to show me a letter from Michelin, announcing its new recommendation of Gardino sul Duomo in its 2016 red guide. In honor of this special recognition, we celebrated by having dinner at his favorite Il Barocco. Later, on that chilly night, we enjoyed a yummy gelato with Marsala wine and pistachio at Gelati DiVini. That evening, Michele had introduced me to some of his local friends. For the next nine days, I was greeted with ciaos on the streets. Thanks to this gracious and unassuming innkeeper, I felt like an honorary citizen of this most charming hill town of Ragusa Ibla. Review 3:We returned to Ragusa for our second stay at Giardina sul Duomo and it was even better than we remembered! The recent renovations including a gorgeous pool and stone wall added to the incredible garden views of Ragusa. Our room was very comfortable and had a lovely view across the valley. The location is ideal and is an easy walk to the Duomo and a variety of cafes and restaurants. Breakfast in the morning was completely homemade and included the most delicious fresh squeezed orange juice from the orange trees in the garden! Best of all is the owner, Michele who is so gracious and accommodating! A perfect weekend getaway!
Review 4:Nothing; poor wifi in room and non-working ventilation were repaired the same day I reported it. Parking is in the street above the hotel, and driving in small streets is not easy (like rest of Sicily).
Review 5:Great central location in Ragusa Ibla, including restaurants nearby. Nethertheless still quiet. Kind and helpfull young hosts.
Review 6:There was nothing we didn't like - although we didn't realise we could buy wine to have in the evening and maybe it would be nice if the lounge area could be accessed in the evenings
Review 7:The location and relaxed atmosphere Will definitely be back
Review 8:The narrow roads made driving very difficult
Review 9:The rooms were spotless and very well furnished. The B & B was well located for the old city and just a short walk. Very narrow roads through the old town but parking available which was a bonus in Ragusa
Review 10:It was a bit of a nightmare negotiating the narrow and poorly marked streets to Giardino sul Duomo by car
Review 11:Our room had excellent facilities. The views were exceptional. Giardino sul Duomo is very close to the main tourist attractions.
Review 12:Room needed de-humidifier due to no ventilation. Our room down many steps onto different street, one of the 'houses' of property Challenging to drive to but we managed
Review 13:Nice being in ibla, friendly staff, good breakfast, big room
Review 14:You should note that the property is an "albergo diffuso", all the rooms are different and situated in different buildings, some are bigger as promised some are smaller. In special occasions you might want to check in advance about these details which you can not find on the Booking.com site.
Review 15:Lovely place in Ragusa Ibla. Beautiful garden, small pool and lovely view. Delicious breakfast. Very helpful and serious proprietor. Highly recommended
Review 16:The charming Giardino Sul Duomo was a delightful hotel in which to stay when we visited Ragusa Ibla. The beautiful garden and swimming pool provided the perfect place to relax after a day of sightseeing and our room overlooking the garden was very comfortable and spacious. We really enjoyed our time here.
Review 17:A very nice and friendly host. Wonderful terrace view with best shot of Ragusa. Close to the Duomo. The restaurants recommended by our host are very good. It is a bonus to have free parking space within the old town.
Review 18:Everything was amazing!! Fresh and delicious homemade breakfast. We received a warm welcome at are arrival. The location is perfect, on one side it's piazza del duomo and on the other a great pool with a nice view of the valley.
Review 19:See above
Review 20:Excellent location and very friendly staff. The quality of the rooms is very good and great value for money. The swimming pool was a fantastic bonus too - the only one in Ragusa Ibla. The breakfast could have been a little better (more pastries and savoury choices) but as it was included in the price of the room it was still very reasonable. We had a lovely stay and would definitely recommend it.
Review 21:None at all !
Review 22:The place is beautiful. After a long day visiting the island, coming to this peaceful, beautiful garden and pool was perfect. The rooms are in separate buildings from the main area and there are a lot of stairs (Ragusa Ibla is on a hill) but we were helped with our bags and it wasn't a problem for us at all. Staff was very helpful and ensured we had all we needed (map to get around, tips for restaurants, places to visit, etc.) The city is a bit difficult to drive around but we received an email from Michele with a map and instructions how to get there. Forget what GPS tells you, just follow this map. The room we had was a small appartment in an old building on the lower road very close to the Duomo and it was beautifully done with old stones. We will definitely stay here again.
Review 23:Didn't like the stairs but it is Ragusa and it is built on a hill. So lots of stairs! Also would prefer proper towelling for the towels.
Review 24:We loved the location - so convenient to everything. Beautiful view of Ragusa from the breakfast room. Breakfast was plentiful and good. Our host Michele was charming and helpful. Free parking was provided also.
Review 25:No-one is there at night and the owner does not come back until 7,30am. We had to go without breakfast as we were leaving for an early train.
Review 26:Loved the garden and new swimming pool. Quiet and relaxing, lovely views. The owner is very helpful - he even picked us up from the station.
Review 27:Very silent room even though it is just a 5 min walk from the center. The B&B in general was beautiful and had a very relaxing atmosphere. Particularly the pool with the garden is very nice. Service was speaking English and was excellent, and also parking was no problem at all.
Review 28:could have had more fruit at breakfast
Review 29:home made jams and cakes delicious. New pool adds to the pleasure of the secluded garden. The property is being tastefully developed and has great views of the Duomo. Host friendly and knowledgeable.
Review 30:Great location, wonderful hospitality and facilities eg pool and good breakfast. Easy to park nearby. Great views from the garden. Very helpful people.
Review 31:The ability to sit outdoors under the shady trees either having breakfast or a glass of wine, all the time overlooking the magnificence of the old town of Ragusa. The owners were exceptionally friendly and helpful. The sweets at breakfast were too appetizingly decadent to resist! The location was great for both sightseeing and visiting the great Restaurant Duomo whose truffle ice cream is a taste not to be missed.
Review 32:Nothing...
Review 33:Michele and his family found a hidden gem right by Plaza Duomo and turned it around into a beautiful garden with a pool and a fantastic view. Our room (suite) was spacious and quite luxurious. Above all this, the service was amazing!! Would not consider anywhere else but here for our next trip
Review 34:Wonderful location in Ragusa Ibla. The owners, the garden, the magnificent views.........and there is a pool as well!Yes , we found it difficult to drive to initially- despite helpful email instructions from Michele- but it was worth it. We were then able to park the car and leave it until we left Ragusa 3 days later.
Review 35:The view from the room was magical. Fabulous restaurant (Il Ristrovo) 5 minutes away. Handy for bus in to Positano. Lovely people running the facility.
Review 36:Very, very friendly and helpful staff. Driving in Ragusa Ibla is challenging, the emailed instructions helped a lot and got unto their parking. The rooms, garden and breakfast room are all very stylish.
Review 37:Nothing. Oh. Maybe muesli or eggs for breakfast. Only sweets.
Review 38:The staff and owners were wonderful. Very gracious and helpful. The rooms are most comfortable and bathrooms very modern and everything is spotless. The garden is beautiful and the pool will be open soon. The location is perfect. The staff recommended great spots to dine as well.
Review 39:Great location to walk to everything. It is hilly so prepare for steps. The town is not made for cars and we got lost and phoned Giardono. From a description of what we could see from our car the owner drove down to collect U.S. and pilot us to the Giardino. They have nearly finished installing a small pool on the garden. Will be great this summer.
Review 40:We loved the garden with a beautiful view over Ragusa. We appreciated fact that we got a upgrade from bedroom to a wonderful apartment. There was a very good breakfast served. We enjoyed every minute of our stay! The B&B with garden (and in a week a very nice pool) with a view, must be the best place you can stay in Ragusa Ibla.
Review 41:The room, with direct and independent access to the street, was very spacious, clean and comfy. Breakfast was delicious and included home made products. Location is perfect to explore the old city centre. Free parking is available only a few steps away. A nice and quiet place to relax.
Review 42:On April 10th, one should know that the temperature is still low in that area of Sicily, and owners shoulkd care about putting heating system on a few hours before arrival of guests... a pity that we had to care about that ourselves, with the resulting cold coming from delay and trial & error. Also, the breakfast buffet was rather limited in choice, as will as in quantity: one shoudl expect more in Sicily...
Review 43:location in the center is splendid, as well as the newly installed garden (and soon coming swimming pool)
Review 44:Large comfortable self contained room, led out onto steps going up to breakfast area. Breakfast fantastic, the best during our stay, with homemade cakes and breads. A swimming pool was being built in the garden which is going to be fantastic. Staff very friendly and could not have been more helpful. We were driving (which is not easy in Ragusa, but ok) and they came down to meet us to show the way, and on leaving we were able to follow the owner out of the town. If you drive head for the Via Solarino which is where you can park (free). The Giardino is (a doorway) on the steps of Scalinata de Gaspano. This is easier than going to via Capitano Bocchieri. That is very narrow with nowhere to stop. Ragusa itself is well worth a visit, very pretty and lots of good places to eat. However as it is on a hill it means a lot of walking up and down, and may be difficult if you are less mobile.
Review 45:Lovely spacious room in a beautiful part of old Ragusa. We were there in winter, but in summer the garden would be lovely too. Very helpful, friendly staff and amazing cakes at breakfast homemade by Nonna.
Review 46:The garden area was being refurbished, which we were not told before arriving, but the weather was not warm enough to have breakfast there anyway.
Review 47:All of the owners were very friendly, especially Julia who helped us when we got lost finding the place. Room was recently refurbished and very comfortable. Good Italian breakfast with amazing freshly squeezed Orange juice and home made cakes and jams.
Review 48:Centrally located at Ragusa Ibla, just round the corner from San Giorgio. Room was modern and clean but a little small. Good wifi connection. Breakfast was decent. At the moment the owners are building a swimming pool which should be ready by summer 2015.
Review 49:Nothing, it was super nice stay!
Review 50:Everything! Great accommodation, super helpful staff, good wifi and the garden was fabulous. Breakfast was so many different cakes, all exceptionally tasty.
Review 51:Poor shower pressure No heating option available as it's not really winter but cold for us No prior warning about parking and challenging road narrow condition
Review 52:Big room Breakfast was varied with options for sweet and savory Friendly and helpful staff View from the garden
Review 53:Receptionist meet me and drove with me to parking area behind the premises which was great as its a complicated one way system in Ragusa. Friendly and helpfull staff all round
Review 54:The garden is to die for, with an amazing view over the valley. Went to have breakfast everyday there to enjoy the view. Had an afternoon siesta also everyday on loungers in garden
Review 55:We were charged an extra 45€ for the 3 nights for a cot for ourdaughter. This was a bit unexpected although the cot provided was niceso not a huge deal for us
Review 56:The two ladies who spoke with us were lovely and very helpful. Good tipsof the area and surrounds. Our stay was perfect.
Review 57:It was difficult to find; our local taxi driver had to get directions from the owners on the phone. We did not meet the owners at all in the 4 days we stayed, although they were helpful by email before our stay. Breakfast was advertised as from 7.30a.m. but in practice was not available till nearer 8am; this does restrict what you can do if you are using public transport (which is limited in this area)
Review 58:The garden, with its stunning views of Ragusa Superiore, the breakfast, with the variety of delicious fresh cakes and fruit. Comfortable room, air conditioning and fridge. Central location for exploring Ragusa Ibla on foot. Friendly young staff to welcome us and serve breakfast.
Review 59:Nothing worth mentioning
Review 60:The location is great. Rooms are spacious and clean. The garden is great and has spectacular views. The breakfast was really good (specially when had whilst enjoying the views in the garden). The staff was great (helped us with navigating Ragusa in our car, and the owner really made us feel welcome)
Review 61:Maybe a little bit hard to find for the first time as the main entrance is along the stairs connecting 2 streets.
Review 62:We had a very nice 2 nights stay. The location is perfect for both sightseeing and restaurants. Even a 2 Michelin star Restaurant is just across the B&B. The apartment was big and the host welcoming. Cakes at breakfast were homemade and delicious.
Review 63:I cancelled my booking for a hotel in Ragusa on the basis of the reviews this property had, I was so glad I did as I wouldn't have wanted to miss the opportunity to stay here. The map provided enabled us to find the property without too much difficulty and we were welcomed by Julia who was delightful. Julia provided us with so much useful information including a recommendation for a fantastic trattatoria and which beach to head for the following day. The bedroom was lovely as was the breakfast, it was in my opinion above average for accomodation in this price range. Having stayed in a lot of places in Italy this is up there as one of the best.
Review 64:Just a little damp smell at the beginning but goes away when properly ventilated.
Review 65:The staff were extremely helpful and friendly. The garden is something you have to see and wish we had more time to stay there and chill.
Review 66:Excellent location in the heart of Ragusa Ibla. Well furnished room and amazing breakfast in the garden with a view of Ragusa. will definitely stay again.
Review 67:Superb welcome Julia gave us a map of Ragusa, tips on where to eat, drink, get fabulous ice cream and got us on a walking tour that evening. Garden is sublime at sunrise and sunset and in fact at any time - my wife was serenely happy here. And yet 2 mins from Duomo and centre of town. Perfect!
Review 68:No complaints, Ragusa is worth a visit as is the boutique hotel.
Review 69:Quirky rooms with all mod-cons, lovely garden and view over the valley and upper town. Staff very helpful.
Review 70:Good central position, 5 min walking distance to the Duomo. Very helpful and friendly staff. Nice large rooms, quiet and comfy. Good breakfast, with home made cake. View from the terrace is beautiful. Free parking available nearby but difficult to reach without the recommendation of the staff
Review 71:Very nice property with friendly and helpful staff. Great value for money. Was a little hard to find but don't follow the GPS. Use the hotel's directions instead.
Review 72:Instructions for arrival could have been better (leave your luggage in car till you know which room you have to avoid carrying up and down stairs).
Review 73:Garden for afternoon sun and drinks. Close to the cathedral & piazza Lovely friendly staff
Review 74:Excellent location right there in the centre of Ibla old town. The view from the garden is wonderful and the staff and rooms are first class. Highly recommended as a sightseeing base and for the beautiful town itself. Parking not a problem and the restaurants all close by.
Review 75:Beautiful! Only property in Ragusa with a small garden and pool. Staff went out of their way to make us feel welcome.
