Reviews for Villa Otium
Review 1:Great location, on a windy road just 4km out of Volterra, in a quiet, peaceful setting with stunning views over the valley where you can sit and watch the beautiful sunsets. The staff are all very friendly and speak some English. Restaurant onsite offers tasty meals, parking is free and close by and there is a large selection at breakfast. The room is comfortable with good facilities. When you are travelling in a hire car and trying to avoid the dreaded ZTLs, locations with places like Villa Otium are a blessing.
Review 2:Staff is really great, they are very kind and adorable. They cook really well, so I would recommend to have dinner there. The place is very beautiful and the location is very good, it is close to Volterra's center - it was easy to reach. Comfortable and clean room.
Review 3:We traveled around Tuscany 8 days and we were in 5 hotels. It was the best place of our trip. Mille grazie, Orietta! Wonderful views of Volterra, 4 km from the city. Nice garden with pool. Very tasty dinner and homemade breakfast.
Review 4:Excellent food, we had dinner as well and were very pleased we did. Traditional food cooked wonderfully and friendly staff. Lovely views as well, sunset on castle walls was stunning. Very reasonably priced.
Review 5:There was a pool (we didn't expect that), but it was full of local Italians (crowded), so we didn't use it (just an observation, no negative off course). Shower cabin needs to be replaced (water pressure is good however, it's also clean).
Review 6:Great location, view all around including the landslide of Volterra. Great Airco. Very reasonable price. Good breakfast. Friendly staff / owners. Also good restaurant at the B&B.
Review 7:Very nice place. Staff is very friendly. Breakfasts were divine. Comfortable beds in rooms. Because the wheather was very very hot, we used pool. The pool was clean with a very nice view. We recommend this accommodation.
Review 8:Lovely family run hotel at a beautiful location, all family members are very kind and helpful, very comfortable room, nice swimming pool area and garden, restaurant with delicious food
Review 9:Nothing.
Review 10:Amazing place with a spectacular view of the surrounding tuscan hills. Getting to Volterra takes 5 minutes by car. Perfect location to visit Pisa, Florence, Siena. Breakfast very delicious with huge choice. Nice decorated rooms. Pets are very welcomed. Good Internet connection. Very kind and friendly host family!
Review 11:Pool crowded with local youth; no fan in room
Review 12:We stayed four nights at this charming Bed and Breakfast in July, 2015. The setting is dramatically beautiful, atop a mountain with gorgeous views all around. We were relying on public transportation, and there was a local bus stop at the foot of the drive. The villa is run by a young woman, Virginia, and her parents. They were all very friendly and accommodating, and we especially enjoyed our encounters with their sweet Bernese Mountain puppy, Amelia. Breakfast was plentiful and good, though I would have enjoyed a little more local fruit. My companion enjoyed the meats and cheeses, and we both liked the pastries. We had dinner at the inn several times, and found the food quite good, especially the homemade pear ravioli. As the sun set, it was delightful to sit with a glass of wine or limoncello and watch the stars come out. We must caution guests who are counting on enjoying the lovely swimming pool pictured on the website. Virginia, out of an admirable spirit of generosity, has opened the pool to the local community. We returned from exploring Volterra, hot, dusty and sweaty, looking forward to a refreshing dip, only to find between 35 and 40 local youth occupying it wholly. The other guests of the inn were similarly disappointed, as the pool was one of the reasons we selected this place, and it was often unavailable to us, especially in the heat of the afternoon when we most wanted to use it. We mostly had a lovely time at Villa Otium, and will remember it fondly. Our room was clean and our bed was comfortable, though there was no air conditioning or fan, and since our visit coincided with a heat wave, the room was quite hot. We would only consider returning if we knew the pool was limited to guests of the inn.
Review 13:Wonderful food, very friendly patron with teenage and young adult children who made you feel very welcome and were superb in English. Idyllic views over Tuscan valleys, quiet setting.
Review 14:We like a firm bed and our mattress most definitely was not firm enough for us.
Review 15:Convenient and beautiful location, friendly hosts and excellent breakfast buffet.
Review 16:The room would be a bit small for two persons and bags, although it was more than enough for one person.
Review 17:The villa is located on a hill just outside Volterra, with a spectacular view of the surrounding hills. The facilities were clean and comfortable, breakfast was ample. The restaurant is also very good and inexpensive. The hosts as very amicable. Getting to Volterra takes 5 mins by car.
Review 18:The room was a little small.
Review 19:It was wonderful to stay on a farm in a rural area. Close to the town of Volterra and in the beautiful countryside of Tuscany. Neat old stone farmhouse.
Review 20:I little bit difficult to find, but once you find it, it's worth it!
Review 21:The location, the views are amazing. The decoration and all of the heart shaped details.. You should definitely give a try to the restaurant for dinner.
Review 22:The owners are very friendly and helpful. The place is beautiful, located on a hill (great view over the valley) below Volterra. Our room was cosy and always clean. For breakfast you get different cakes and other sweet things and a plate full of cheese, salami and ham. The food in the restaurant is also great and it varies from day to day. The wine selection could be more diversified but the food compensates for that easily.
Review 23:Moldy shower with loose shower head holder. Found some dust bunnies underneath the bed. No hairdryer (although not something I would expect to find at a B&B).
Review 24:Very kind and friendly staff. Large premise and garden with breathtaking view of the surrounding Tuscany valley. Comfortable bed. Romantic/nostalgic interior design with lot's of lovely accessories. Cute house cats.
Review 25:Too many cats around, but we were on the countyside anyway...
Review 26:Friendly owners and good restaurant, clean and nicely decorated room. A nice place for over-night stay to people travelling by car.
Review 27:You need a car
Review 28:Stop here ! Beautiful B&B The man is smiling all the time and very helpful. We came here for my boyfriend birthday. I ask a bottle of champagne in the room, it was there when we arrived, with some small cakes. The view is magic, and the room very romantic. We appreciate so much. For sure We will come back.
Review 29:They call it a Bed&Breakfast and they mean it -- there is bed and there is breakfast. But no table, chairs glasses etc in the room. Cleanliness of the shower cabin was below standard.
Review 30:Extremely friendly and welcoming owners. Nice and simple rustic design. Beautiful scenery.
Review 31:It's hard to say what we didn't like. Perhaps the only downside was that the swimming pool was temporary off use, but it was mid Sept after all and we spent most of the time traveling around.
Review 32:We loved the way the old farm was converted and how much attention to detail was given by the current owners. Amazing place to relax, mornings and evenings sitting in the gazebo or on the terrace overlooking the valley with cicadas playing were our absolute top. The couple running the B&B and their daughters are very friendly and welcoming, and if you fancy local food - that's the place to go. Pastries, fresh vegetables, amazing pastas and salads. Unlike other places in Italy, the breakfast is very satisfying with great locally baked bread, cheese, ham, veg and delicious cappuccino. The rooms are not very big, but are very clean, stylish and cosy, each with own en-suite bathroom and comfy bed. We love the place and will definitely come back.
