Reviews for Hotel San Luca
Review 1:When we arrived the front desk was manned by a very senior staff member who loved to watch cooking show videos at high volume on his computer. The noise echoed throughout the lobby where we were reading by the fire, and it was simply very odd behavior. He turned it off when asked, but it was strange as at the same time the bar was left completely unattended and you had to ask for service.
Review 2:This is a clean, quiet and charming, slightly quirky hotel that grows on you with time. We were delighted with the quality of the room, linens, breakfast, service and location and wished we could have stayed longer to enjoy it even more.
Review 3:We loved the location of the hotel and how beautiful it is. The courtyard, the breakfast room and the lobby are cozy, yet refined. It is very inviting. The staff was accommodating. We called room service and asked for some dessert, though they didn't have any, they did send us some cookies, which I thought was nice. Since it was our honeymoon, they gave us a nice room and also included a little note with some chocolate welcoming us. Very cute touch! We hope to come back on our 1 year wedding anniversary.
Review 4:We really liked visiting Spoleto in the off season. The views were amazing and we had great food and visited lovely villages and hiked near the city. The hotel staff was very helpful and the breakfast buffet had great choices. All was very nice. The common areas were beautiful.
Review 5:Stayed there regularly for 10 years. Family owned and run hotel to very high standard with staff that have been there many years. While Spoleto is a hill town and the hotel is at bottom of hill, a new underground travelator , a few minutes walk from hotel opened in October 2015 now takes guests to top of town without much effort free of charge.
Review 6:We came in a heavy rain 6 hrs. Before check in, they gave us a wonderful breakfast ( which wasn't part of our package). It's a beautiful hotel!
Review 7:Very nice small hotel just inside the outerwall, around the corner from the escalators up to the old center. Good value, good sized rooms, great bathroom, good for a couple of days. You can park in the main street around the corner at no cost.
Review 8:We stopped here for two nights en route from Rome to Florence. Spoleto is definitely worth a visit, and you could do a lot worse than stay in the Hotel San Luca, which is a tastefully converted old building just within the city walls. And although the hotel is located downhill from the centre, there is an escalator just 100m away which takes you there in a matter of minutes. Our room was a good size, with a large bathroom and functioning airco. Although there is no restaurant, there are plenty of good ones in Spoleto and the one recommended by the hotel - the Tempio del Gusto - was extremely good. Breakfast was excellent, and you could sit outside in the pretty courtyard, or inside. We enjoyed our short stay, and would happily return.
Review 9:Plastic undersheet on bed. Daily parking in hotel garage 13 Euros per day.
Review 10:Very professional staff. Excellent breakfast both in quality, quantity and variety. Able to breakfast in courtyard. Spacious room and great view. At bottom of town but access to upper town via travellator just round corner from hotel. Hotel public rooms very attractive. Our room had lovely view over garden and orchard.
Review 11:Just inside the old town walls, it's not easy to find by road.
Review 12:Although at the lowest end of the old town, the hotel is only 2 minutes walk from the travelator which takes you all the way up to the San Rocco Fort; a nice buffet breakfast could be taken outside in the central courtyard; garage parking is available; the room was large and comfortable and we had our own patio area overlooking the garden.
Review 13:Lovely hotel, very comfortable well appointed rooms, efficient and pleasant staff. The proximity of the mechanized walkway up to the center of town was most welcome!
Review 14:This is a gorgeous, stylish Italian hotel with charming and helpful staff. Breakfast was delicious and we ate in the sunny courtyard each day. Air con in rooms and very comfortable bed.
Review 15:Room decor rather drab, nothing hot for breakfast, mediocre coffee, no facilities to make tea r coffee on the room
Review 16:Size of room, lovely bathroom, courteous staff
Review 17:I felt they should have had a swimming pool as the website gives an impression of space and a garden and a courtyard.
Review 18:The proximity to the underground escalator. The car park attached to the hotel.
Review 19:Not applicable.
Review 20:The beauty and comfort of the hotel. I was traveling solo but the staff did not treat me any differently for it, which is not always the case in Italy. Everyone was very accommodating. Also, it was a relaxing pleasure to have breakfast al fresco in the hotel courtyard every morning. I had a wonderful stay. My hats off to the owners for creating a lovely experience at this hotel.
Review 21:The room was a little burst of luxury with marble floors and bathroom, charming decorations and a comfortable bed with a small terrace off the main bedroom.
Review 22:The staff were all friendly and helpful, from reception to breakfast to cleaning ladies. Lovely courtyard for breakfast, nice start to the day, also to sit and read.
Review 23:The welcome was not enthusiastic - perhaps he was not happy doing a Sunday evening! Location is handy for seeing the town of Spoleto, though the hotel is at the bottom of the hill. Few guests were staying when we were there and the place felt a bit soul-less.
Review 24:Quiet and comfortable. Pleasant courtyard in which we had breakfast.
Review 25:It was a stiff climb to the town but was dead easy coming back down later!
Review 26:Staff helpful, easy car parking (13euros), clean and did feel as though one might have been in an old convent! Perfectly convenient for Spoleto sightseeing
Review 27:The décor was far too tired and dated for our tastes, functional nothing more with a few nice antiques but the place needs a face lift. The breakfast was a buffet affair, most dishes were dry and certainly not freshly cooked.
Review 28:The staff were very helpful and polite.
Review 29:Nothing
Review 30:The staff were very helpful. The facility was comfortable and conveniently located to explore the city and yet away from the crowds. It was nice to return to our spacious room after touring. The bathroom was spacious too.
Review 31:The hotel is located at the base of town. It is quite a steep walk up to the central shopping/dining/sightseeing area of Spoleto.
Review 32:Beautiful hotel, wonderful staff. Our spacious room overlooked the hotel's lovely central terrace. The marble bathroom was gorgeous and spotlessly clean. The included breakfast was fresh, plentiful and delicious.
Review 33:Streets are tight for driving
Review 34:Unfortunately we only had 1 night in Gubbio a lovely town plenty of bars & resturants very frendly place excellent hotel good breakfast will be back some day
Review 35:Not a huge issue but tea / coffee making facilities would have been good in the room. Possibly also an armchair?
Review 36:Quiet location close to the old town centre. The hotel has much character and tasteful reception area. The staff was friendly and happy to allow me to practise my Italian! Attractive courtyard and garden. I would happily return.
Review 37:The staff at the front desk were amazing they gave me and my husband great advice on things to do and the best places to eat around we had suck an amazing trip to spoleto I would love to go back and stay at hotel san Luca again!!
Review 38:Guests with mobility problems might find the steep walk up from the hotel to the centre a bit taxing.
Review 39:This hotel provided everything we needed - comfort, excellent bathroom with efficient shower, reliable Wi-Fi. The buffet breakfast is really outstanding - huge amount of choice and everything very good quality.
Review 40:Location wise quite a drag up to the castle and Duomo and other sites, so ok if you are mobile and don't mind a walk.
Review 41:Parking on the street outside was handy. Staff were friendly, room was large. Nice breakfast room, large lounge and outside seating.
Review 42:The friendly reception which we always get, having stayed there many times ( which speaks for itself). We like Umbria and whenever we visit the state, we base ourselves at the San Luca in the secure knowledge that we will be well looked after.
Review 43:We can't say enough about the service of the staff at San Luca. Guiseppi, especially was helpful and personable. The hotel is quiet and beautiful. We highly recommend this great hotel and the city of Spelleto.
Review 44:Disappointed that our shower was not working and that hotel management knew about this but we were still given that room.
Review 45:Very beautiful hotel, pretty courtyard, good car parking, easy to find. Very helpful manager who gave good advice on attractions to visit.
Review 46:Liked everything.
Review 47:Everything. Wonderful atmosphere. Lovely place to relax and take a break from 'traveling'. At the base of a lovely historic Spoleto.
Review 48:If travelling by car recommend you pay to use the hotel's garage. Parking in the street is not cheaper and is much less convenient. Hotel is on the edge of the old town. To reach the centre and restaurants, you will need to walk up steep hill.
Review 49:Hotel had a high level of comfort. Pleasant interiors, good (Italian) choice at breakfast, helpful staff. Hotel location can be reached without driving up steep, narrow streets of the old town.
Review 50:The hotel advertisement lead us to believe there was a funicular very near by. This is not the case. There are a series of escalators that take you to the top of the hill where the castle is located but it is a long walk to get to them from the hotel. Parking could also be a problem if the hotel is fully booked as there are only a few spots near the entrance.
Review 51:This hotel is older but very well cared for. Our room was very clean and quiet. It had the charm of an older hotel with its collection of soup tureens displayed in the common areas. The woman who is in charge of the breakfast room is very helpful and attentive and the food she serves is delicious. She made a special effort to set up a table in the courtyard so we could set in the sunshine to eat our breakfast. The courtyard/garden is very attractive and private.
Review 52:A palace-like hotel that never made it. The interior deco is awfull and the location is a bit outside the action. Entering the historic city Means climbing a lot, which Again Means declimbing a lot when returning after af nice meal and wine. And the location in a rather darkened street without people means that the return at night is a bit dudgy.
Review 53:Nice staff, easy to find and parking in the street. The breakfast was good and homemade
Review 54:Located at the bottom of the hill so quite the walk up to the city center. You might ask staff about a route with a more gradual climb if steep hills are not for you!
Review 55:Very clean, large room and very modern bathroom. Bed, chairs comfortable and nice desk and table in the room. There was a nice courtyard with tables and large inside sitting area with lots of reading choices should you prefer. Books available at the elevator on our floor, too, in many languages. Friendly, helpful staff with great recommendations. Nice breakfast and quiet area.
Review 56:For us the room was a disappointment -clean yes, large yes, plenty of storage and a big bathroom -yes. However the randomness of the furnishings lets it down it just didn't feel right. It looks like someone has gone to their local charity shop and picked out random desks, chairs etc. Small complaint I suppose but it meant that we did not like the room.
Review 57:Staff were very friendly. Public areas of hotel quirky -lots of random antiques etc but has a good feel.
Review 58:Nothing to fault from my point of view but some May find the short walk to the old town a little difficult.
Review 59:A great hotel. Excellent bed. Spotlessly clean. Good breakfast
Review 60:The breakfast seemed to run out of croissants fast and we had to ask for more
Review 61:Beautiful hotel Clean and spacious rooms Excellent staff with many hints and tips Easy access to Spoleto
