Reviews for San Giorgio Palace

Review 1:Spent a lovely night here in Ragusa - was very sad to leave! Desk staff went out of their way to be helpful, including organising some washing to be completed overnight and was ready for us to collect at breakfast the next morning. Parking is on the street below the hotel, and a parking permit is provided by staff on check-in. The room was great, with a fantastic bathroom - the best we've ever had in Italy! Very comfy, with a large window overlooking the valley. The hotel is located a 10 min walk from the main square, so you have to walk up stairs to get there (like most places in Ragusa), but is nice and quiet. The restaurant was closed the day we were staying, but open for breakfast. Works are currently underway to more than double the size of the hotel - hopefully it won't lose its current charm. We'll definitely be back!

Review 2:The bathroom tended to be on the chilly side. The room was a very good size, but slightly Spartan eg a box of tissues might have been useful.

Review 3:The hotel has a very good position near the centre of Ragusa Ibla. The room was pleasant and spacious. Breakfast was good. The staff were very amicable and the manager extremely helpful.

Review 4:Nothing ... Maybe a kettle inside the room with coffee / tea, bathrobes and indoor slippers would have been a bonus.

Review 5:San Giorgio hotel is nicely and cleverly tucked in the backside hill of Ragusa Ibla which was why we originally chose it. I must admit it was the third time we visited Ragusa so we knew where to go and where to park. However when we arrived at the hotel we truly enjoyed our stay from beginning to end. We were greeted vey well and the staff, most especially Ivan, made sure our stay was impeccable. He took the effort to book (trip advisor recommended) restaurants almost every evening and that really made our stay very special. The hotel is truly as advertised and it is also being extended so now we are curious to see the end result. It may be the case that some things could be easily added such as bathrobes and indoor slippers as they would really add class. However rooms and bathrooms are very clean, daily well done up, breakfast well catered for from sweet dishes (typical Sicilian), savoury, cereals, and fruit - not to forget the freshly squeezed orange juice. Eggs and bacon are available on request and as you wish them to be cooked. The view is stunning both from the restaurant and the rooms. Free wifi all over the hotel as well. Highly recommended and will definitely return.

Review 6:Beautiful, stylish hotel in a dramatic location, convenient for lots of sights and restaurants; Stylish, spacious, well-equipped accommodation; Friendly, helpful staff; Great range of food in breakfast buffet, which is included in the price; Free parking very near the hotel; The prospect of even better facilities when the current development completes at end of 2015;

Review 7:Extremely helpful and friendly staff. If you are driving into Ragusa this is the place to stay -easy parking and easy access to the hotel up the elevator from below. Then when you step out the front door you are in the heart of the historical center. The hotel is a beautifully restored boutique-type hotel very modern and clean. Breakfast was exceptional. This hotel is well run and beautifully maintained...I will stay here again the next time I return to Sicily.

Review 8:Room was small, but expected in this old section of the city. Lighting was dim by US standards.

Review 9:Relatively easy to find and with ramp and then elevator access. Staff extremely helpful and attentive. Room, though small, was well appointed. Breakfast was quite good.

Review 10:The friendly staff and location with a satisfying breakfast. They also arranged transport for us to Agrigento which is difficult to reach from Ragusa by oublic transport.

Review 11:Nothing

Review 12:This is a very nice modern hotel with character in Ragusa Ibla (old Ragusa). I was told that the hotel was built as a multi-story modern construction/conversion of an old convent/monastery. We stayed 2 nights in the largest suite overlooking the valley with two separate bathrooms: one with a large walk in shower while the other bathroom featured a large jacuzzi bathtub that my wife loved. We appreciated the high quality fixtures used throughout the suite. The entire suite is flanked by a large expansive terrace and a separate living room with a sofa bed. It would be perfect for a family with a child or two though we very much enjoyed staying there as a couple. We loved the fact that we could park our car below in the valley (along Via Risorgimento using the hotel permit) and use the hotel exclusive elevator 4 floors up into the hotel which is up in the center of Ibla. So in effect we had the convenience of being in the center without having to drive into the narrow streets of Ragusa Ibla city center at all. Another plus to our stay is the owner Ivan and his staff who are very good in making sure that we have the best stay in Ragusa. We're so glad to have found this hotel.

Review 13:The hotel is very well positioned in Ragusa Ibla. Parking is a bit of a trick but you do so on the road below the hotel and enter by walking up the ramp. The room was clean and comfortable. The breakfast was at the higher end of quality when considering hotels. The staff were wonderful! As always it's important to know some Italian when travelling in Italy but their grasp of English was very good and they were always helpful and pleasant. The hotel is being expanded but construction did not interfere with our stay. Thanks Evan and the young lady who also works on the front desk. (Please forgive me for forgetting your name....you were so charming!)

Review 14:Nothing to fault!

Review 15:Excellent location for exploring Ragusa Ilba. Staff were wonderful, Ivan couldn't do more for us, from restaurant reservations, directions, taxi bookings he was by far one of the best hotel hosts we have encountered!

Review 16:Road outside is being worked on for some months, noise only during the day though.

Review 17:Hotel location is superb, and ambience is excellent with fittings of a new high quality hotel very well integrated into the ancient fabric of the building. Staff were excellent nothing too much trouble, helpful and keen. Breakfast was good too, with a wide assortment of local and standard foods every day - local cakes and pastries are fantastic.

Review 18:Lovely modern boutique hotel, amazing room and fabulous bathroom. The staff were lovely, nothing too much trouble. Nice breakfast with a good selection. Would definitely stay here again.

Review 19:We were only there one night and in our experience there was nothing not to like.

Review 20:From the helpful staff to the spacious, clean room and delicious breakfast the stay at San Giorgio Palace Ragusa was a lovely, enjoyable experience.

Review 21:The parking is rather odd and the hotel is not easy to locate. I do not advise, should one rent a car, using the rental gps. They intentiinally program it to take you through crumby towns in hopes you stop and spend. Instead use google.

Review 22:We only stopped over for a night, but the hotel was lovely, the staff very freindly and helpful, and the room comfortable.

Review 23:Don´t stay too many days at Ragusa Ibla since it´s not that accessable.

Review 24:Amazing hotel in a fantastic little town. Bear in mind that Ibla is not at all accessible from ugly Ragusa. Great staff across the line, fantastic breakfast for such a small boutique hotel. We stayed at the suite which was a perfect choice in all aspects. Everything seems brand new, had high quality and looked even better than the pictures. Could not have asked for anything better! Will return whenever possible. Thanks to all the staff.

Review 25:Some necessary road works just by the front door made access difficult at times but it will be impeccable when completed.

Review 26:Spotless and spacious rooms. Very efficient and friendly staff, particularly Evan. Wonderful buffet breakfast and ideally located to explore the whole of the Ibla town. The tunnel entrance is unique and works very well.

Review 27:To get to the main town you do have to climb lots of stairs, so would not recommend if your not physically fit. If it was not for the stairs would have given the hotel a 10.

Review 28:Just about everything especially the the front of house girl (who's name I forgot to ask), she was brilliant, organised everything with a smile. The Hotel was very well maintained, nothing didn't work, Big TV had Sky, BBC etc, WiFI very good.

Review 29:I felt slightly pressurised by the staff but I think they just over anxious to please. Bring your own toiletries. 100+ steep steps to Ibla centre.

Review 30:Suite with two lovely bathrooms. Private terrace with great view. Self service breakfast till 10am with excellent caffelatte.

Review 31:New hotel, very modern inside. Extremely comfortable with nice welcome. Staff friendly and helpful and hotel in good location close to main square and restaurants.

Review 32:Not many choices of breakfast but I don't really care.

Review 33:Room is beautiful. Much better than in the picture. Very good location. Will definitely stay here again!

Review 34:Modern well located hotel with very helpful staff.parking very convenient-particularly for Ragusa.Very good breakfast.Near to a variety of good restaurants

Review 35:Would have preferred if the hotel has a garage to park the car

Review 36:We loved the hotel and everything about it. The staff is friendly and well educated, and the bed is very comfortable. Also the view is very beautiful.

Review 37:Directions to find hotel were inadequate when sent on 1st Feb - no mention of road closure in Ragusa Ibla near hotel or existence of private lift to hotel from main road. Hotel did send directions at 1600 on day of arrival by email but we had already left by air to Catania so never received them!.Hotel also assumed we had GPS - not the case in hire car! Staff made amends by upgrading us!

Review 38:Very friendly and helpful staff. Good advice on places to eat in Ragusa Ibla as well as in other nearby towns. Small boutique hotel with just 7 rooms so obviously limited facilities. Everywhere very clean - recently redecorated? Good breakfast.

Review 39:The hotel's great central location gave us concern for parking before arriving but this was not an issue. All the key locations/restaurants of this beautiful old town are within a short walk. The staff are extremely friendly, very helpful & speak English, nothing was too much trouble

Review 40:Difficult to slide the bathroom door.

Review 41:The hotel is accessed through a long bright tunnel towards the elevator, very unique. Good range of choice at breakfast. Rooms are clean and modern, we would have preferred something a bit more traditional in.this lovely town, but the rooms are otherwise fine.

Review 42:Nothing. However, hotel is going to be extended and I imagine the price will be much higher next year when it has a pool and spa facilities. Won't be the sort of place I'd like to stay I suspect.

Review 43:Stylish small hotel in the perfect location for exploring Ragusa Ibla and the baroque towns in the area. Lovely breakfast of typical Sicilian fare. Staff a delight. Unfailingly pleasant and helpful.

Review 44:The lighting in the bathroom could have been better. The walls are a deep brown, which is beautiful, relaxing, and spa-like, but absorbs much of the available light, making make-up application difficult.

Review 45:The hotel is beautiful from the moment you walk in the courtyard at the bottom of the hill to the breakfast room to the guest room. Everything is modern, clean, and comfortable. It felt like we should have been paying more for this experience. The staff at the registration desk and the breakfast room couldn't have been more friendly and helpful. Breakfast was delicious with a small table of local items the highlight. If you're touring southeastern Sicily, Ragusa Ibla is not to be missed and this is the perfect place to stay.

Review 46:Not applicable since I liked everything

Review 47:Great location and staff especially Ivan, manager makes you feel like Family. The hotel is immaculate and Modern The taste in furnishings and size Of room makes for a great stay

Review 48:Difficult to find, first time around. Then no problem.

Review 49:Clean modern rooms, friendly helpful staff, beautiful buffet breakfast, good location for strolling to restaurants in Ragusa Ibla

Review 50:Trying to find the hotel without a map!

Review 51:Position Breakfasts Comfort and cleanliness Wifi Close to Ibla and many places to eat. Friendly and helpful staff

Review 52:The San Giorgio palace is a pretty little hotel tucked away just off the main piazza in Ragusa. The place is full of charm and character but it's the staff the make it really special. Rosalina, ivan, ersilia and the breakfast staff went out of their way to be helpful and friendly and made out stay their very pleasant. Highly recommended!!!

Review 53:Right in Ragusa Ibla where you want to be. The terrace on the Royal Suite should have pictures on the website, it is a nice place to check email, have some wine and see a view. Parking is easy, just read the instructions carefully and follow your NAV. Ivan is very helpful and goes out of his way to make the guest feel welcome, as does the young female assistant at the front desk.

Review 54:Hard to find. Took us ages with Sat Nav looping the location. There is no entry to the old city at this point. At one stage we wew just below the hotel but still co-ordinates didn't natch. It was dark. There are signs on the foot of the city walls, but not clearly visible if you arrive at night.

Review 55:The decor was modern, high specification. The staff were attentive and the hotel owner met us at breakfast and was very welcoming and friendly. The breakfast was very fresh and just lovely. In some respects, the photos on the site do not do full justice to this hotel.

Review 56:All of the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The breakfast was outstanding and the location of the hotel was the perfect distance to Ragusa Ibla.

Review 57:Breakfast was very average. Service slow. No orange juice, breakfast room was very warm, eggs and bacon were made but they were just left to go cold on the serving table - no-one has told them about chafing dishes! We had an "upgrade" room but the shower tray was broken, and there were no tissues, cotton wool etc provided. The colour scheme is dark brown - very 1970's. We were surprised to learn that there are only 7 bedrooms in use at the moment - more are being built.

Review 58:the room had good aircon. The amazing entrance hewn into the rock and the James Bond style tunnel to the lift. I'm sure it will be very nice when the other rooms are built and they will be able to operate the hotel with more staff. The old town of Ragusa Ibla is just a short walk out of the upper floor reception. Although we had some issues, it is probably one of the best hotels in which to stay in the area.

Review 59:Beds a bit hard, which can be uncomfortable if not used to.

Review 60:Excellent location, just a few mins walk to piazza duomo. Staff very helpful and accommodating. Rooms clean and comfortable witb modern facilities.

Review 61:We had a bit of trouble getting connected to the wifi. Staff at the front desk were very willing to help us out. Once we learned the nuances we were good.

Review 62:Location - step out the front door and you are in old town Ragusa. Short walk to the main square! Parking - Easy and Free Loved the dramatic entry to the hotel via the stunning tunnel to the elevator. The interior did not disappoint and our room was beautiful. The place is gorgeous and the history of the hotel is quite interesting. Breakfast - was great, quite a spread with lots of choices, fruit, meat, cheese, rolls, cereal, etc. Staff was very accommodating and made fresh hard boiled eggs for us. As others have stated - this has to be the best place to stay in Ragusa Ibla.

Review 63:As for the only downside- which is not about the hotel ameneties - itwas the behavior of the Hotel Manager. After we spent 2 full nights atthe middle of July (me being pregnant and the weather being hot andsticky outside), I requested a change in our bed sheets by phone. Andthe voice on the other end just said; "WHY???"I was shocked because i expected nothing like that, the personnel was always helpful till this point. Instead of explaining that this is not their policy but he would do such a change(since we are good paying hotel guests!!) , he knocked on the door a minute later and told me in a far-away-from-nice manner that he had made a note in booking.com about the hotel policy "only changing the sheets if you stay for the 4th night". I told him that i read nothing like that before i had made the reservation. Anyway after that ugly discussion, he sent a lady for the sheet change. After that point i didn't really care because he had ruined our day. The hotel is a beauty but as for "The Manager" he should learn how to the treat guests nicely, learn to explain his point view in a nice way. Because things like the air-conditing breaking down in the middle of night can happen, is a mechanical problem and is normal as long as it is taken care of ASAP which the hotel did. But things arising from a person's behavior might really make a damage. After all he is representing the beautiful hotel.

Review 64:This was a lovely choice in all means. As soon as we entered the hallwaythat led us to the elevator, a beautiful scent made me smile. The girlat the reception was really nice. Our room was spacious and clean andmodern decorated. Breakfast buffet was satisfactory for us. So as totalwe were glad we stayed there for 3 nights.

Review 65:Leaving :(

Review 66:Our stay at San Giorgio Palace was exceptional !! The hotel is modern, well maintained and centrally location within walking distance to the local bars and restaurant. The hotel staff where extremely helpful and friendly. Ersilia ( A special thank you !! ) you could not have been more helpful really making our holiday one to remember. ( from directions around the city, restaurant recommendations, late check out, printing boarding passes and organising transfers to the airport etc.. the list goes on ! ) San Giorgio Palace is lucky to have you as part of their talented team !! Many thanks to all !!

Review 69:Nothing.

Review 70:We could park on the bottom of town, and go up to the ancient central city by elevator in the hotel. I did not need walk up to city center, nor I did not need to be bothered for driving & parking on Central area which is registered in UNESCO. Our room was clean and comfortable. The reception man was very kind and friendly.

Review 88:Nothing really.

Review 92:The staff was super friendly, welcoming and professional. Will definitely come back to stay. Parking and access was very easy.

Review 93:Lovely small hotel in the heart of sicily. Nice and polite manager and manager assistant. Gorgeous cappuccino at the morning with spicy breakfast.

Review 94:Relaxed and very friendly staff, great breakfast, nice view, but the staff made it!

Review 95:Skeleton staff, closed restaurant, no supervised parking

Review 96:Location

Review 97:The location was great, only 5 minutes walk to the heart of Ragusa Ibla. The service was wonderful and great breakfast!

Review 98:Staff v.friendly and the focaccia with breakfast was amazing

Review 99:This is an excellent hotel with excellent amenities, excellent staff.

Review 100:Staff are a bit hard to find at times

Review 101:Very convenient location, spacious clean room.

Review 102:The location was perfect for seeing Ilba Ragusa. The staff was wonderful. The breakfast was wonderful.

Review 103:Access to ragusa ibla helpful staff lovely room

Review 104:Wifi is a problem

Review 105:Very nice hotel located quite near to the center. Hotel manager is very polite.

Review 106:By looking at the historic building of the San Giorgio Palace from the main entrance in Ragusa Ibla , you could not imagine how comfortable and modern it is inside, spacious rooms, big modern bathrooms each with a window with panoramic mountains views. The Architect that envisioned this project was very clever. Kept the character of the old Palazzo, took advantage of its position on the hill, making the elevator to reach the street below where you can park for free (Via Giovanni Ottaviano), once you come up to reception, there is another door at the other side to reach the center of town. If you are driving be sure to ask for directions. Booking.com GPS coordinates takes you to the no traffic zone entrance inside the old town. Reception should have a map prepared with GPS coordinates of the parking entrance to email to guest. Ragusa Ibla is a wonderful old town with a maze of streets of unbelievable buildings, gardens, shops, cafés and restaurants.

Review 107:Finding the back entrance is very tricky. We got close and called the hotel and they sent someone to flag us down. You park on the street, then you roll your bags part way up a steep hill and take an elevator up to the lobby. It's fine once you figure it out, and you don't have to use/move your car again until you leave. The room was very small, but comfortable. The hotel seemed understaffed; they were very nice, but often hard to find.

Review 108:The front door (not where you park) leads to a street that leads you to the main historic area--close, easy and convenient. The staff was very accommodating. Overall, a good experience.

Review 109:Beds were a little hard Wi-Fi necessitated separate code for each device - a bit fussy, but not a problem

Review 110:Fresh, clean, new hotel Friendly and helpful staff Fresh and varied breakfast - as good as I've ever experienced in a hotel Wonderful location

Review 111:We thought the bed, while vast, was a little too firm. The lighting could have been brighter in the bathroom. The sink in the main bathroom was huge, luxury but not so practical when you are planning to fill it up.

Review 112:The room was an incredible value for the money, huge bed, two bathrooms, sitting space, and balcony for way less than I expected. I thought they might have erred in giving us such a wonderful room. It was right in town, great location. The parking was tricky but I think that is common. We also had a meal there one night and that was also a wonderful good deal. The rooms were very clean, no problems with that. The staff were friendly and helpful.

Review 113:Internet is horrible. They booted me off three times trying to checkin to my flight out of CTA...The girl at the desk smile prettily at you says they have changed companies. No 6 am wakeup call as requested. We left by 6:45 and they still had not called.

Review 114:close to the main street of Ibla

Review 115:We weren't that keen on the modern brown decor of the room but that is just personal choice so don't let that put you off.

Review 116:Fantastic location for Ragusa Ibla. We booked the suite which was extremely spacious and surprised us by having 2 en suite bathrooms! Our room also had a terrace and view over the valley. The staff were very willing to help although sometimes things got a little confused.

Review 117:This is a modern hotel with everything up to date yet close to the old city. The manager did everything he could to help us and made excellent suggestions.
