Reviews for Locanda Don Serafino Hotel
Review 1:WiFi didn't work, remote control of HiFi didn't work, scales provided in bathroom did not work and was filthy. We reported these issues to the hotel staff as soon as we arrived but nothing was done to fix them.
Review 2:Close to town centre, spacious room, comfortable bed.
Review 3:It would be impossible for people with some sort of incapacity to stay in because no elevator and high steps.
Review 4:Great placing, charming old building completely renovated... A must see hotel.
Review 5:we could not check out on time because of receptionist absence despite of notification in advance. Junior suite room is nice but not clean enough. Disappointed.
Review 6:Stunning hotel, the barrel vaulted ceilings and magnificent bed made for a welcome relief after a long flight! Located right in the centre of Ragusa Ibla, definitely worth a visit!
Review 7:Watch the staircase if you're tall or you risk cracking your head!
Review 8:Position between Ragusa and Ragusa Ibla with easy stroll to everywhere, good view from the room and comfy bed.
Review 9:1. Reception was cold; not making a guest feel welcome. We had to drag our luggage ourselves to our room. 2. Hotel was very difficult to get to, given all the one-way streets in Ragusa Ibla. Hotel's internet map does not reflect difficulty. 3. Parking was a joke. We had to have the car parked 300m away. 4. Internet access was also a joke. Connection kept dropping. Hotel staff did not know when the internet in the guest rooms was out of service. 5. There is no restaurant on site. The "Michelin starred" restaurant associated with the hotel is 400m walk away. 6. For the services provided, this hotel is highly over-rated and over-priced.
Review 10:Good location, charming and good breakfast and service.
Review 11:Very steep stone staircase
Review 12:Well placed to explore Ragusa Ibla (the old part) and also close to the 250 steps that go up to the upper new part. Quiet and fairly spacious room but you do need to negotiate the steep stone steps to get to it from the reception and dining room areas. Good hot shower but you had to wait some time for the water to get hot. Hotel staff were friendly and helpful Good bus service from the new town main bus stop to Modica which is well worth a day trip.
Review 13:The staff looked like they didnt want to work there, useless at best.
Review 14:The hotel is nice, rooms are a bit small. Their restaurant is great and was an excellent surprise (2 stars)
Review 15:Difficulty in parking and negotiating small street. No parking lot. Staff did provide a valet. Old stone steps to rooms are precarious. Staff carries all luggage. Not good for old travelers.
Review 16:Location in the old city was good.
Review 17:Service and staff was first class. Incredibly accomodating. Partner restaurant and private beach in nearby Marina Di Ragusa. The restaurant is also incredible and in a beautiful setting. The bedsheets were in a delicious tan colour and provided many a nights comfortable sleep. A big thank you to all the staff for helping to make a perfect trip. The breakfast is also divine
Review 18:It pains us to have to be so negative here but the point is that this is billed as a four-star property and the reality is quite different. It's a three star at most. The staff were nice and certainly pleasant but they did not appear to be interested in engaging travellers and tourists with their area. Although the hotel is connected with an apparently four-star restaurant there was no effort made by staff for us to try it. Perhaps our biggest complaint was the room (room 2). We booked a superior room, and this just wasn't. It was spacious enough, but there were enormous red wine (we hope it was red wine) stains on the white easy chair (the only comfy chair in a room for two), and on the desk top. The shower door was filthy; it had certainly not been cleaned for a while. As well, the TV did not work, nor did the safe. The offering at breakfast was the most meagre of any of our hotel breakfasts in Sicily. We had high hopes for this place but we were very let down.
Review 19:Great location in Ragusa Ibla. Very atmospheric and charming.
Review 20:nothing
Review 21:I agree. Lots of Sicily is meant for goats or really skinny people and cars! The location is great but the getting there is difficult because the whole place is difficult! That being said, all the more enjoyable that it was unusual! Service could not have been better. hotels rooms actually scattered up the back street so to speak...because the staircase behind the front dest cannot accommodate you and your luggage! Kind of like a hobbit. Intriguing! you must try his restaurant as well! ++++ stars at least and a vision to behold. soooo calming. wonderful food!
Review 22:room are hard too reach (high steps), pictures on booking don't match the rooms
Review 23:interesting hotel
Review 24:Finding it! Haha!
Review 25:The service at the hotel was very good! Also, their Restaurant was exceptional. A great dining experience.
Review 26:Wifi could be temperamental
Review 27:Lovely cave like room in great location
Review 28:No WiFi in room. Stairs to rooms were difficult and dangerous.
Review 29:Room and bathroom a bit cramped. Room accessed by steep flight of difficult stone stairs.
Review 30:Character of the hotel.
Review 31:Management
Review 32:Reception was OK
Review 33:Central location. Only a short walk from the main piazza and restaurants. Excellent breakfast.
Review 34:This is really a quality bed & breakfast rather than a full blown 4 star hotel
Review 35:Our room had a small en-suite which would challenge a child gymnast.
Review 36:Once found, helpful car parking service. Convenient location on the edge of Ragusa Ibla.
Review 37:Location difficult to reach by car -- streets extremely narrow. "on site parking" is actually out on the street and there are only 2 spots. My husband walks with a cane and could never have reached an In side guest room which was accessed only by a steep staircase. No elevator. Our room was on the street.
Review 38:Staff was very friendly and helpful.
Review 39:We didn't like this place at all. The receptionist on our arrival was frosty. Our room was dark, lighting was poor, we wanted to read, it was hopeless. To see the skyline we had to stand right up against the window. Our door opened onto the street, it was noisy, we were wakened by the refuse collectors on our first night, if we had wished to, we could have shaken hands with them. We couldn't get a wifi connection, after 2 days, we got fed up complaining, the staff couldn't care less. Room smelt musty. Not enough tables for breakfast. In a word, inhospitable.
Review 40:Not very much. Very central for Regusa, which is lovely. The lady serving breakfasts is very sweet.
Review 41:Found the stairs very difficult but were able to use a rear entrance
Review 42:Staff very helpful in organising trips for us but felt the property was overpriced and the breakfast was average. Felt they were living off the reputation of their Michelin Starred restaurant
Review 43:Car access difficult - but what else should we expect in a village built beautifully for mountain goats, donkeys and carts.
Review 44:Excellent breakfast prepared by the chef from their Michelin Star rated restaurant. Very helpful staff particularly when we "lost" our car - they went off and recovered it.
Review 45:Ragusa is two towns, Superiore and Ibla, rebuilt after the 1693 earthquake and merged in 1927. Ibla, the old town of stone houses and elaborately ornamented buildings has steep vertiginous roads and alleys where the hotel, Locanda Don Serafino, is located. The rooms have been hewn out of the steep rock and the stairs to the first floor challenging and insurmountable by the disabled. The staff are the one redeeming feature of the self-styled historic boutique hotel. They could not be more helpful from reception on arrival and help with luggage to guidance of what to do and see in Ragusa and advice on restaurants. If you hanker after the cave dwellers of yesteryear or fancy life as a troglodyte, Don Serafino is the place although there is no restaurant and the nearest is between 500 and 800 metres of narrow ankle-testing cobbled alleyway away, depending who you ask. It is possible to visit by taxi, which will cost between 6 and 25 euros reflecting your luck with the taxi.Breakfast is delightful with freshly squeezed orange juice and a variety of patisserie, croissants and one type of bread with locally produced preserves. It is not possible to have a cooked breakfast or toast because there is no means of cooking. Although I was unable to attempt the first floor to look, I saw no fire escape. After breakfast, the place is thoroughly cleaned and vacuumed to remove the fine layer of stone dust that settles from the dome-shaped cave ceilings. In the lounge area, running my hand over the settee could feel the residue on the surface. In our ground-floor "suite" there was only room for a bed, one chair and a minuscule 10inch square top table on one side of the bed. Clothes had to be stored in a tiny wardrobe in the annexe next to the bathroom, which is well equipped with a superb walk-in shower and adjustable showerhead.
Review 46:Helpful staff
Review 47:Advertised internet service not available and no wish to remedy fault.
Review 48:Very attractive building built into the stone face, clean modern room, close enough to old centre to feel part of it.
Review 49:Like in every city, sicilans love to drive their cars and motors everywhere, which can lead to noise early mornings.
Review 50:Great location in Ragusa, the associated restaurant is of high quality as well. Staff was very friendly and helpful.
Review 51:In retrospect the fact that it had no swimming pool and which would have been very helpful during the hot, hot hot month of August when we were there. But then we were not expecting one so it was down to us (myself and my 13 year old daughter!!)
Review 52:A unique, well designed and well furnished boutique hôtel with an excellent position and friendly, helpful staff. It also has one of the best restaurants in Sicily but which is a bit expensive - but not for what it offers. It's just my 13 yr old daughter preferred pizza!!
Review 53:Not enough power points for recharging items & lack of mirrors. Bathroom was very small inspire of booking being for Delux room
Review 54:Car parking is a problem and staff helpful also with luggage on a very difficult stairway.
Review 55:The only downside was that our room was facing the street, where there was some occasionally noisy traffic - not at night time though.
Review 56:Location was great for exploring Ragusa, the breakfast was excellent, fresh and had varied foods to suits all tastes. It was thoroughly clean and bed was very comfortable
Review 57:Very loud traffic noise at night from the small and narrow street; shower for taller people is too small and drain didn't work properly; not much storage room; wifi too weak, doesn't work everywhere.
Review 58:Friendly staff and very helpful with luggage; interesting architecture in old building; nicely located in centre of the old town.
Review 59:This is a pretty cool hotel on the edge of the old town of an amazing hilltop city. Everything was in order and we had a good night. The breakfast was fairly simple but the quality was excellent great to have the Cannoli put together in front of us. Best of all was the restaurant. it is a short walk away and we enjoyed the tortuous route there and back. We opted for the tasting menu and the tasting wines to go with it. Although this seems expensive when you have had it you think that it is value for the money: one of the best meals ever. Each cours was exquisite and the wines were excellent too. We were the only people haing that experience and so when a new bottle is opened to go with each course you wonder at the value rather than the expense. The experience was magical.
Review 60:The elegance and architectural interest of the locanda--its nearby restaurant is heavenly--and the kindness of the staff, especially charming, friendly, well-informed Tony, who makes the ambiance of the locanda especially welcoming and warm
Review 61:Actually finding the hotel was very difficult
Review 62:The location was extremely unusual and the hotel was set within anancient building. Ragusa Ibla was well worth the extra mileage anddriving hassle together there. Beware of narrow streets and ignore theone try signs!
Review 63:This attractive town has very narrow streets and finding hotel was a nightmare even with a sat nav- we parked as directed by the hotel in adjacen street but found a 60 euro fine the next day as we had left car at upperend end of street which hotel had not warned was restricted. Another guest got a fine the same day- this is not clever and could be avoided by emailing all guests a clear plan of access/ parking / restictions - these issues would deter from returning
Review 64:Spent 2 nights here in junior suite - actually an annex in converted neigbouring house - large comfortable room with sitting area. No view but well insulated from street noise and good air con .
Review 65:Nothing, all good.
Review 66:Everything, staff were friendly & helpful. Room was lovely, large ensuite, all decorations first class. The centre of town was less than minutes walk, which in itself was interesting. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend this hotel.
Review 67:Because of the thick walls, you only have wifi in the lobby. And the breakfast could be improved!
Review 68:Small romantic hotel, near the historic centre of Ragusa Ibla. Spacious rooms with balcony. Very helpfull staff, especially when you're travelling with heavy bags or searching for a parking space. Breakfast ok, but nothing special.
Review 69:Expensive given the cramped lobby & breakfast area. Stairs could prove challenging; the ceilings and original arches in our room hazardous for a tall person.
Review 70:A carefully restored building with atmospheric rooms; difficult to find even with a satnav ! Excellent staff; Tony was God sent helped park the car carry the luggage nothing was too much for him. The breakfast room was cramped however the quality and variety on offer made up for it. Our biggest disappointment was dinner at their Michelin starred restaurant Locanda Don Serafino where the relatively average food was highly priced ! Additionally the staff were neither attentive nor helpful the night we were there. The owners need to seriously address this. Not worth a detour !!!
Review 71:Noise frm road
Review 72:The Climbing stairs to the rooms Is very steep
Review 73:The junior suite was very confortable and spacious. The boreal fast was GOOD.
Review 74:NO Wi-Fi
Review 75:We expected more!
Review 76:Room smelled very musty
Review 77:Linens and amenities
Review 78:The hotel is ideally located for Ragusa Ibla. The staff made us welcome and sorted out any requests we made very quickly and efficiently.
Review 79:Very difficult to find and very poor signage by the hotel. We drove past the hotel twice.
Review 80:Great restaurant
Review 81:Poor WIFI A long way from similarly named restaurant - not made clear at booking
Review 82:Position in Ragusa Ibla
Review 83:Charming boutique small friendly beautiful location
Review 84:Courtesy of the staff and character of the hotel
Review 85:A little difficult to find.
Review 86:A friendly atmosphere. Very helpful and very well placed in the town.
Review 87:Room price was very excessive for what we got.....tops€100-€120 is theprice in season....
Review 88:Very good in almost every respect. The staircase was challenging!
Review 89:This unique hotel is the perfect spot to explore Ragusa the breakfast issuperb and staff helpfull!!!
