Reviews for Albergo Nazionale
Review 1:It's very conveniently located in bang in the centre of Volterra. The staff were friendly and accommodating (for example, I needed to iron a shirt and they provided the wherewithal). There was a good, varied breakfast included in the very reasonable price.
Review 2:We loved the location of the hotel, as we were in the walled town, so we could pop in and out of the hotel during the day. You can drive almost to the hotel without entering the wall, unload bags, then park in the 15 euro per day underground park 100 metres away. When we visited in late October our room was very comfortable, especially with radiators coming on in the night.
Review 3:Poor and cold coffe for breakfast at 9.30
Review 4:Good location. Helpful staff. My room on 5th floor had a nice view but was very small and there was a noise from some kind of hotel installation the whole night.
Review 5:Breakfast was a bit basic, did the job though.
Review 6:The view from room 401 absolutely made the holiday, watching the sunset from the balcony will be a memory I'll never forget. Surrounding area is steeped in history. Friendly greeting from staff.
Review 7:Dated decor, dreadful breakfast. A/c unit outside window which was noisy so couldn't leave window open. Choice between fresh air or noisy a/c unit. Shower cubicle small.
Review 8:Friendly staff, great help with local information. They were extremely helpful and helped us plan our 2 days there. Good location.
Review 9:To be honest we only booked this hotel because it was in Volterra 3* and close to the Andrea Bocelli concert in Lajatico that we were going to. Very high up with a magnificent view. The town is very old with lots of restaurants, tourist shops and tourists. You can only park on the perimeter of the town. The hotel was old and tired. Our bedroom had paint peeling off the walls. We knew there was no air-conditioning but didn't know there was no fan! August is hot in Italy and this August no exception. Our bedroom window looked out on to a small back alley and a bit of greenery in the distance..this is no problem for us,we only use the bedroom to sleep but, because of the heat and no fan we were obliged to leave the windows open-this was a major mistake. Drunken revelers in the early hours kept us awake, followed by restaurants having their bottles collected at 5.30am etc left us with little or no sleep. Two nights of this was more than enough and we were very glad to leave. Breakfast was appalling and we even decided to have lunch-a pizza- (Italy- Pizza !!!) and both of them were completely tasteless! The service however was good. Nothing more to say I'm afraid. I have written many reviews on Booking.com hotels we have stayed at,this will be the first ever, not recommended. Sad.
Review 10:The very best thing about this hotel was its position and the female receptionist. Position, because it was very close to underground parking €15 per day and only a short walk away and the very helpful receptionist.
Review 11:No air conditioning
Review 12:Right in the centre of volterra room was good but no air conditioning which if you suffer with the heat not great but all in all great location staff very nice breakfast was good, would book it again
Review 13:Previous reviews had mentioned surly staff and I only found that true by male front desk staffer, girls other times were very friendly.
Review 14:Very close to the bus stop and centrally located and easy to access rest of town.
Review 15:Basic breakfast.
Review 16:Location. Very close to the old town and central piazza. Just 50m inside ZTL zone, drop-off bags at the bus stop and turning circle, then park in underground car park just 50m further away. Room with a small terrace and views across the valley.
Review 17:Compare with othe 3 stars in touristic places in italy , this hotel is old , needs some renovation and Heater on the rooms you can graduate,
Review 18:Location is great , you will be 3 block away from the city center ... great place to visit as destination
Review 19:The receptionists are kinda rigid, barely smiled. The room is decorated very basically and no sound-proofing: can hear other people and can be heard. Just a very typical and middle-level hotel. Nothing more.
Review 20:Great location in the middle of Volterra, and a balcony view overlooking the mountainous area. Easy to find and near the bus stop to other cities. Room is clean and decent, with clean towels and sheets. Breakfast is of varieties.
Review 21:problem with parking, but we found parking for 11 EUR/day. Poor breakfast, but taste great
Review 22:good location in the centre of the city, close to cafes, taverns, possibility to walk, the heat in the room, covers, clean room..
Review 23:This was the second time I stayed at the Nazionale and again booked my room with the wonderful view. This hotel is close to the Parking area and a easy walk with our bags. The WiFi was very good and the breakfest was good. I love the location in relationship to the rest of the city and was easy walking to everywhere we wanted to go to.
Review 24:Small shower, very tight to get in. Water not very warm one day.
Review 25:Staff was very friendly and helpful with restaurant recommendations. Reasonable price for comfortable room. Great location, close to bus stop, main piazza, shopping, restaurants. Loved our 4th floor terrace to relax, enjoy view of countryside.
Review 26:The buffet breakfast was eaten by a large coach group and wasn't replenished for us when we arrived.
Review 27:The balcony and the view - the central location in Volterra perfect for exploring the historic sights.
Review 28:Great place to stay right in the centre of the beautiful Volterra. Nice staff, large rooms, some of them old fashioned with vaults, other ones modern on the last floor, good and varied breakfast. It's the second time we stay at this hotel and will certinly do it in the future.
Review 29:WiFi is poor but that is general in Italy.
Review 30:The location was excellent. As most people need to arrive by car, the pay parking garage is close by.which was most appriciated when raining. Excellent coffee. Hotel is interesting and confortable. For a 2 star it well lives up to this rating.
Review 31:I wish I could of stayed more than one night to make it worth the long bus drive there.
Review 32:The hotel restaurant chef was very knowledgeable about gluten free diet and provided glten free pasta and bread. Sometimes it's difficult in small towns, but not in Volterra! I shall return!
Review 33:Volterra is unique place with deep history.. On the other hand Hotel Nazionale is uninteresting place that you probably do not remember well after you come home. I find two advantages to stay here.. It is cheap and directly in city center
Review 34:Bed was very hard.
Review 35:If you are lucky enough to get a room at the front on either the third or fourth floor then you will have an amazing view. Great location.
Review 36:Great location,
Review 37:The saddest breakfast room and the worst coffee ever tested in italy
Review 38:Close to everything in town
Review 39:Beds are hard.
Review 40:View was excellent from room. Girl on reception helpful.
Review 41:The view from the terrace
Review 42:Tiny Shower in a big bathroom
Review 43:Terrific view from our balcony. The location in Volterra was brilliant
Review 44:Wonderful central location to explore Volterra
Review 45:lack of cappucino or specail order brerakfast
Review 46:location, views, rooms nice
Review 47:staff didn't inform about drive in/out arrangements, almost had to pay fine over 90 EUR...
Review 48:great location, nice views from a window
Review 49:Noisy in morning! But can't be helped.
Review 50:Location, close to town piazza and restaurants. Balcony with view.
Review 51:Uncomfortable, ancient, metal beds
Review 52:Very good location for Volterra
Review 53:Poor quality breakfast with very limited choice.
Review 54:Ideal location.
Review 55:I was happy to see that the hotel was so close to the parking garage. Very convenient. Found the hotel easily
Review 56:Staff didn't speak english old and worn out but ok for 1 night
Review 57:Location was fab!!
Review 58:Breakfast very disappointing, insufficient food choices available.
Review 59:Location
Review 60:poor breakfast, noisy
Review 61:situation
Review 62:The night concierge was not very helpful, a bit arrogant.
Review 63:The location was perfect. The room clean and simple. Good value for the price.
Review 64:Nothing
Review 65:Close to the car park but within seconds of the main square - perfect location.
Review 66:Very noisy, particularly at night
Review 67:The hotel is right in the centre of this walled, ancient town
Review 68:Right in the centre of volterra with a beautiful view of Tuscany. Would definitely stay there again
Review 69:Very primitive conditions. No a/c, badly maintained premises
Review 70:The staff were great. The location was amazing, right in the heart of the historic area. We travel by bicycle and they were very helpful with finding a secure place to lock them up. The restaurant had nice food too. Highly recommended.
Review 71:The location is critical .... you can't take a car into Volterra, but this hotel is only a cricket pitch away from where you can get to. We were on top floor with balcony. Amazing view complete with a flock of screaming swifts around our heads in early morning - lovely!
Review 72:The room (and the bathroom) was very small and the balcony actually "saved" it. One double bed was actually two beds together which would not have been a problem if it wouldn't move so much. The breakfast was quite poor and they didn't bring more when something was gonne - 5 croissants for all the guests??
Review 73:The location was great, we loved the balcony and the magnificent view from it.
Review 74:The location was amazing. The staff were helpful (except for one person) and responsive. The rooms were pretty and clean, although the bed was not so comfortable. I had a lovey view from the window.
Review 75:It really wasn't the hotel's fault but the road to the hotel was closed so we had to walk about a mile uphill dragging our suitcases to get to the hotel. The hotel was supposed to be a block from the bus stop.
Review 76:We loved the view from our balcony across the town and the valley far below. Charming village, nice restaurants.
Review 77:The American travel book writer, Rick Steves, called this hotel"musty" with staff who are not quick with a smile. Neither ofthese things were true! The hotel (in the best possible location, bythe way) was very clean! My single room was huge and all the staff Iencountered (no less than 3 different people) were all friendly, accommodating, and very helpful. I was prepared for a"musty", but was welcomed with a fresh smelling, clean room. This hotel was perfect!
Review 78:The shower cabin in my room was ridiculously small. I'm an averagesize woman and I had trouble closing the foldable doors once inside thecabin. There was no internet signal in the room only in the receptionand the staff was not too interested to solve the issue (I gather thisis a persistent issue there).
Review 79:The breakfast selection was very good comparing to other similar placesI stayed in on the same trip. The hotel is in prime location so easy toget too and not too noisy late at night.
Review 80:It is a no-frills hotel - basic furnishings and rather un-stylish public areas.
Review 81:This hotel is in an excellent location close to the centre and historic treasures... indeed its part-of the treasures.. of Volterra... and close to the underground car park. We've stayed twice before and will stay again. It is simple and basic but as long as you remember what you have paid it is very good value. My sister needed gluten-free food and they fetched it especially - very kind indeed!
Review 82:Breakfast very ordinerary tinned fermented fruit no fresh fruit no eggs at all
Review 83:Close to bus drop off and pickup point great view good value very good staff
Review 84:Room was very basic. No air conditioning, fridge or glasses in the room.
Review 85:Staff at reception and breakfast were friendly and accommodating and went out of their way to answer questions.
Review 86:The bed. Was 2 single mattresses to make a double and mine was old ,sagged too the right and was very uncomfortable. I had a poor nights sleep. I would recommend the hotel but check the bed 1st!!! ;)
Review 87:The views. Location. Friendly staff. Breakfast.
Review 88:Dirty rooms and smelly
Review 89:Disappointing breakfast.
Review 90:Location near to parking. Great view from our room.
Review 91:Dated room but still clean and comfortable, no real problem at all.
Review 92:There was nothing to like. It was a poorly run, inferior facility.
Review 93:The balcony, friendly staff, very good location
Review 94:Very good location. Staff was very kind.
Review 95:The rooms were a little cold.
Review 96:The people were lovely. Great location in the centre of town and 1 minute from the bus stops. Nice breakfast.
Review 97:Wonderful hotel in the centre of Volterra! Lovely staff - we would definitely stay here again!
Review 98:Facilities were too basic for the price. Breakfasts were not great.
Review 99:Great location in a superb small medieval village
Review 100:tables during breakfast were not cleaned. staff start to clean room without waiting our checkout.
Review 101:location and price are really good
