Reviews for Residence I Gabbiani

Review 1:Value for money was not worth it, especially considering it was the off season. Also location was quite far from the center of town. Maybe its different at height of the season. Don't go in off season, lots of shops/restaurants closed, towns people seemed a bit unfriendly. Also they didn't provide any amenities (shampoo, coffee in the kitchen etc.). I can't imagine the older couple would be able to help if any problems arose. Internet connection so-so.

Review 2:There was a great view. The older couple were nice, but we had a lot of communication difficulties.

Review 3:Wonderful comfortable modern studio apartment with an incredible view. Quiet and spotlessly clean. Short walk to all that Portovenere has to offer. When 5T boats were cancelled due to rough seas, easy access to the train station at La Spezia. Free secure parking. Nearby Canad for grocery needs. Lovely couple who runs the place spoke very little English, but communicated very well, and offered a gift bottle of local wine. An excellent stay. Highly recommended.

Review 4:A lounge chair to relax on, a toaster and a kettle would have been appreciated. Sitting outside to connect to wifi was a bit chilly.

Review 5:Location and outlook was gorgeous, owners were lovely, friendly and helpful. The apartment was roomy.

Review 6:October is low season, so maybe there's a bit more noise from road traffic/neighbours in the height of summer - but given the convenient location and comfort and views, well...still perfect in my book.

Review 7:Just fabulous! Spotless, spacious, south facing terrace for the sun in October. Lovely Maria who welcomes you and will chat to you about the fabulous area. Portovenere is so pretty and a perfect base for the Cinque Terre - just a 20 min stroll along the shores to the town. You see so much more by boat and on foot than by taking the train. You can cross to Palmeria island for more hiking/R & R, there's a little beach just down from the apartments for a rest day, and the hike up to Campiglia from Portovenere is stunning.Free parking below the apartment for peace of mind, and no extra charge for my dog. In a word, perfect - grazie mille!

Review 8:Had to go outside and downstIrs for the Internet .

Review 9:We loved the view of the harbor and town from our deck. 15 minute walk to town. Everything that we needed was in the suite.

Review 10:The language problem wasn't really too much of a problem. Shower was tiny and therefore very hard to use.

Review 11:View of harbor is breathtaking! Clean, spacious rooms. Walkable distance from city center. Free parking at ground level below rooms. Wonderful, friendly owner (who unfortunately speaks no english) who gave us a homemade bottle of wine after we checked out.

Review 12:Parking was particularly dicey in underground lot. Very squishy. Many many stairs to the room, which was only a problem because of suitcases. Very difficult to communicate with owner as we did not speak each other's language - Italian/English - not her fault, mine.

Review 13:Beautiful view, spacious room, walking distance to restaurants. Good value.

Review 14:The view from the balcony was stunning. The room was extremely clean and spacious (two beds - one is a Murphy bed - and two separate bathrooms. Great for a family) The owners did not speak much English, but were so kind. We were able to communicate well enough to explain we needed a hairdryer! PortoVenere is easy to reach from the train station (25 min bus ride) and is a good base to explore Cinque Terre villages (ferry boat leaves many times a day).

Review 15:I , we, did not have a bad experience but .... Wifi is spasmodic depending on location within the property, more glasses and improved cutlery would have been an advantage to those who actually do self catering.

Review 16:The view - unbelievable, to die for! The owners were very friendly and helpful although I found difficulty in communicating as I can't speak Italian. The AC and garage (tiled!) were a massive plus

Review 17:Bed was a bit uncomfortable and the wifi only worked if you sat outside the front door.

Review 18:Great space with a kitchen, table and outdoor space. The view from our apartment was amazing and the off-street parking a bonus. Communication was a bit hard as the owner spoke limited English but we all managed.

Review 19:1. The bus stop runs one way and thats towards La Spezia 2. the seagulls that could snatch food off the balcony

Review 20:Loved Maria as she attempted to cater to our needs although we didn't speak a word of italian - the balcony with a deck was a lovely way to enjoy wine or have a meal at - it was a decent walk towards the area where some cafes/shops were that helped burn some calories

Review 21:Friendly Italian couple who will make sure your stay is as comfortable as possible. Great to have free parking and such a welcoming host who loved to talk despite having little English. Only a short walk to catch the boat to Cinque Terre. We loved Portovenere and we're very happy we chose to stay in the town.

Review 22:We stayed only one night(

Review 23:The apartment was comfortable, clean and we had an amazing view from our spacious balcony. Private garage was plus. The owners, (older couple) were very friendly and ready to help. They gave us bottle of homemade wine on arrival, and that was really nice. Highly recommend!

Review 24:No hot water in kitchen. Blankets smelled unclean. If you have trouble with stairs this is not for you.

Review 25:The view is spectacular and the position of the apartments mean that they are one of the last to get the afternoon sun - in April this was beautiful and warming. You can take as many rooms as you want as each one is locked separately - we took a back room for sleeping and a front room with kitchenette with an interconnecting hallway. There was another room in the middle with its own locked door. Bathroom is good, hot water, good plumbing and roomy enough for two. Bed was ok but quite hard. There is another bed in front room to fold down which was quite comfortable. Kitchen is minimal, no electric jug, bare essentials for cooking but we managed to make a couple of meals with no trouble. There are plenty of places to buy fresh pasta and sauces, meat and fish but fresh fruit and veg is hard to find. The Conad has a miserable range.

Review 26:the view from room 2 was stunning - we had a terrace to ourselves as well so we could enjoy a bit of sunshine while looking out over the bay the room was clean, spacious and everything we needed was provided; WiFi is not available in the room but outside in front of the door

Review 27:Lovely Italian couple who showed us to our room. Wanting to help with everything. No complaints at all - highly recommend to stay in this amazing apartment.

Review 28:Language barrier, but it was a minor thing

Review 29:The view was terrific, the location was great. I liked having a parking garage. The owners were very friendly.

Review 30:The owner Giovanni and his wife don't speak much English, so communication is sometimes sketchy. But they are a very nice older couple and make you feel welcome.

Review 31:Plenty of space. Big balcony. Great view. Quiet. Modest kitchenette with stove and refrigerator. Wifi. Restaurants nearby. 15 min walk along beach front to harbor and old village.

Review 32:A bit of a walk to the attractions. Staff had difficult speaking English, but they were VERY friendly and courteous.

Review 33:Great view. Very clean and comfortable.

Review 34:Can't think of one thing I'd change

Review 35:This place was the perfect base for our cinque terre trip. Located on the sloping road that leads out of Portovenere, the apartment balcony offers sweeping views of the coast. The apartment itself was comfortable, clean and spacious. Most importantly, the family that runs this place was very warm and welcoming and although they didn't speak much English and our italian is poor at best, we communicated perfectly well.

Review 36:The sun deck. The kitchenette. The welcome and very friendly hosts. The private off-road under cover parking. The great Mediterranean feel with the sea, yachts, mussel beds, restaurants, short walk to town and ferry to Cinque Terre.

Review 37:Terrace os not separate from next one so U can see your 'neighbours' and they can see U, which we didin't find very nice, especialy in the romantic evening or mornings. Maybe suggest to owners to put some kind of paravan...

Review 38:Excelent location, 3 min walk from beach, 10 min walk from old town and hipermarket in the same direction. Great apartment with a sea view terrace. Perfect place to stay and visit Cinque Terre ( by car or boat)

Review 39:The room had a balcony facing to see and old town. Parking downstairs in the same building. Easy to find. Only 15 minutes walk to the the key for boats to Cinqueterre. The owners are a lovely old couple who did their best for their client.

Review 40:Nothing perfect stay

Review 41:We actually took the bus from La Spezia to Porto Venere. You can also take the ferry. You do not need a car to get here fyi. If you are traveling light. Giovanni and Maria were wonderful. Gave us wine to welcome us. The apartment has everything but a washer and dryer.

Review 42:It is a little far if you have small kids to walk to the local town, supermarket and ferry(around 30 minutes for kids) and uphill is a little tiring for them.

Review 43:We feel like home in this apartment the most in our trip to Italy. We love sitting on the balcony having breakfast and the view is magnificent. The owner is very nice.

Review 44:Nothing

Review 45:Portovenere's view Location Parking facility Owner's kindness

Review 46:The marvelous view. Friendly staff. The large balcony.

Review 47:Great, convenient location. Off street parking. Wonderful hosts.

Review 48:Expect that in the summer the rooms towards the road will be a bit noisy

Review 49:Good location

Review 50:The person who check us in did not speak any english.

Review 51:the view

Review 52:Rather weak wi-fi.

Review 53:Tiny kitchen

Review 54:Great view, quiet, very friendly hosts / staff, proximity

Review 55:Good breakfast.Friendly helpful staff.

Review 56:Great view of the bay of poets, clean and cozy rooms, the existence of the garage in the basement and not least courtesy of host!!!

Review 57:No english-speaking staff,but very friendly

Review 58:Sea-view,excellent location for travel to Cinque Terre, fresh oysters in restaurants.

Review 59:everything was great

Review 60:lovely elderly couple who run it; bent over backwards for us. Although it's not right in the heart of town the short walk is beautiful. We did it at least a few times a day without any complaints.

Review 61:Owner speaks a little English, his wife none but we got by (and we were in their country, not ours, so this is really a reflection that we had not learnt enough Italian...). Made it a bit harder to communicate but we all laughed and got by just fine!

Review 62:Parking for car in covered garage under apartments. 1 BRM, sleeps 4 apartment had 1 master bedroom and one large queen fold down bed (VERY comfy, thick mattress) in kitchen/dining area. 2 FULL bathrooms. Great view from private balcony. Gave us bottle of their own wine on arrival; very nice gesture (and nice wine). Would stay again.

Review 63:A little way out of town and the shower head needed replacing

Review 64:Best view in Portovenere. Wonderful terrace overlooking the harbour. Good parking garage. Our hostess even gave us a bottle of wine when we left

Review 65:The apartment was very clean and comfortable, with a great sea view and in walking distance to the centre of Porto Venere. The host was very friendly and helpful and we really felt wonderful there.

Review 66:The balconies do not have any real privacy between them but the viewover the harbour more than makes up for this.Had some communicationproblem with language with owner but a very pleasant and lovely man

Review 67:Gabianni is located just as the road rises from the sea. It is probablyas far from the town centre that you would like to be. About a 15 mineasy walk into the town square. A beautiful village and great place tostay and access cinque terre by ferry. Would recommend Gabianni for theview alone but also very clean and well equipped

Review 68:TV and wi fi did not work.

Review 69:Room very spacious. View spectacular. Walking distance to centre of town. Bed very comfortable. Communication very difficult but managers made us feel very welcome.

Review 70:No negatives just communication upon check in was challenging but all part of staying in foreign country. Be aware as with most places in Italy there are no lifts so need to take luggage upstairs.

Review 71:Facilities are basic in beautiful location overlooking water. Just outside main town centre. Little bit of a hike uphill but nothing strenuous. Owners were lovely but english is very limited. Gave us a delicious bottle of homemade red wine and set up a cot for our toddler. Very well priced accommodation and just a day trip to Cinque Terre without having to stay in a village with stairs everywhere.

Review 72:Giovanni and Maria gave my daughter (18) and I a very friendly welcome. They were willing to help with anything throughout our stay. The residence is in a lovely peaceful location overlooking the water with a nice 10 minute walk into town. The apartment was well furnished with quality fittings. We stayed in apartment 4 for 3 nights and found it a great place to explore the area, including Portovenere. We caught the ferry to and from Cinque Terre. We were extremely fortunate to have fabulous weather. On the second day we caught the bus into La Spezia to have a look and a delicious Italian lunch. The bus takes approximately half an hour each way. I definitely recommend this place to stay. Carole Torquay Victoria

Review 73:I didn't like the wall bed in the main room. It should be replaced by a nice transfomable sofa. As it is right now there is no comfortable place to sit during a day. there was a new coffee machine, but useless as the plug was different than a contact.

Review 74:The VIEW is the biggest adventage of this place. You don't want to leave a balcony.

Review 75:The couple who own/run the residence were very friendly but we had no Italian and it was difficult to communicate. The view is marred by noise from the road out of Portovenere which runs directly under the sitting area outside the bedroom. The apartment is arranged in such a way that the bedroom is at the front and has the views and the sitting and dining areas are at the back without views. If using the sofa bed, people using the bedroom would have to come through the sofa bed area to get to the bathroom. It would have been useful to know in advance that it is a 15 minute walk into Portonevere from the apartment. Buses seemed infrequent.

Review 76:A warm and friendly welcome. Great views. Very clean indeed. Portovenere is very pretty. Good boat ride from here around Cinque Terre. Good value if 4 people stay, less good if only a couple stay

Review 77:Very friendly host. Good location near to the Malpensa airport. Quiet area. A perfect restaurant near was advised. Breakfast served the time you want. Modern interior and cosy beds. Strictly recommend.

Review 78:A really excellent experience. The owners were really wonderful. It is family run. We were traveling with my mother and booked two rooms. The owner suggested we change to an apartment with a shared door. This saved us money and worked better. The rooms had a lovely view of portovenere. It is only a short walk to the historic city centre. In the end, the owners let us have a late check out until we wanted as there was not someone in our room that night. We stayed till 5 pm....very nice and unnessacary. Excellent hospitality and quality for the price. Good location. Highly recommended.

Review 79:The location was amazing. The views were great. We were with a group of friends and we stayed in two of the apartments and it was excellent. The town of Portovenere was excellent. We preferred it to the Cinque Terre towns.

Review 80:Friendly family, Sea-view room with good location, also car-parking and WIFI. Enjoy the apartments with the Guests, and nice service as home, long life family. will come back in future.

Review 81:The weather was horrible!

Review 82:Location and view was beautiful. The elderly Italian owners greeted us warmly and were friendly throughout our stay. If I was to come back to this part of Italy I would definitely stay there again.

Review 83:nothing

Review 84:Very kind and friendly owners. My son like the old lady very much and play a lot with their cat. The old man is kind enough to give us a bottle of wine from his vineyard in Riomaggiore. The sea view from the apartment was fantastic. The apartment is in tip-top condition. I think it was built not too long ago. Overall, we feel home here and will definitely come back again when we visit this area again.

Review 85:Perfect. Unforgettable village, beauty view on the sea. Good apart, very very kinde owners, thay don't speak English, but it's not problem. All is near. I recomend.

Review 86:Hard to drive into the parking garage with a Renault Scenic

Review 87:Magnificent view of Porto Venere from our Balcony, fully equipped kitchen was really handy, Free Parking garage, Wifi connection was good but very long password, Gabbiani was really helpful and friendly.

Review 88:I liked everything.

Review 89:The kitchen was a real treat. The view is excellent and the room (I was in #1) had a big terrace and nice outdoor furniture. The walk to town isn't too far. The parking is free and right on the ground floor. The elderly couple who run the hotel could not have been nicer.

Review 90:The necessary government accommodation paperwork was a bit difficult with the language barrier.

Review 91:The owner was a very friendly and gracious host who welcomed us into her home with the warmth of a grandmother. The view was spectacular and the location great for visiting Cinque Terre. The free underground parking was much appreciated as parking is often hard to find and expensive.

Review 92:The lack of privacy on the terrace outside our unit. It must be verynoisy when all units are occupied. The traffic noise from the road belowwhich is the only vehicular exit from Portovenere. The difficulty incommunicating with the lady proprietress who understood nothing butItalian. The 20 minute walk to the limited food shopping facilities inPortovenere. We eventually discovered excellent facilities at the LaTerazza Mall in La Spezia.

Review 93:The view over poet's bay and Portovenere is magnificent. The ladyproprietress tries very hard to please. She bent over backwards to solveour problems in connecting to the internet by calling in a tech. Theproblem is that the signal is weak and the password unintelligible. Wekept getting an invalid report. The accessibility to the 5 Terre regionby ferry and motor vehicle is really good. I would stay here again inpreference to the 5 Terre itself.

Review 94:Wifi only works outside the room if you sit on the stairs (which was kind of humorous)

Review 95:Great location with beautiful view. Spacious rooms. Free parking. Owner is very nice, but only speaks Italian.

Review 96:Nothing I didn't like - just be mindful that she does not take credit card, cash only. It probably says it on the booking site, I just missed it.

Review 97:Fantastic location, wonderful view! Huge room with functional kitchenette. It was so peaceful and beautiful here, could have stayed much longer.

Review 98:Owners were very kind, but do not speak much English.

Review 99:Amazing views! A great apartment with plenty of space and a kitchenette.Quiet with an easy walk to the main town, historical sites, restaurants, and shopping. Parking was adequate. Easy to find.

Review 100:Situated in an amazing bay of Portovenere. You have enough room andcomfort to spend a week here. Very near to Cinque Terre area and thecity. Very friendly and kind staff made us feel at home.

Review 101:When we tried to pay, they did not know how much we booked for and had to provide a booking form to confirm the amount.

Review 102:The view was fantastic. The rooms were big, with each one came an outside area with a view of the water. The owners were friendly. Would definitely recommend.

Review 103:Uphill walk from town. Basic necessities for the apartment. Ok

Review 104:The sweetest Italian woman is the person who showed us the apartment. Cool town. Great porch overlooking the harbor.

Review 105:Internet on the slow side

Review 106:Beautiful view, very modern, and clean rooms; The lady minding the hotel, Maria, although not speaking English, was very friendly, and helpful to point to us the boat tour to 5 terre villages. Large balcony with huge view and enough place for smaller children to play. We got a complimentary bottle of wine from the hotel, too

Review 107:Long walk to main shopping area (1-1.5km). Room wasn't fully ready when we arrived at 430pm (we were able to leave our bags), but we were going out anyway and it was spotless when we came home.

Review 108:Great apartment in picturesque location. Magnificent seaviews from balcony and free parking. Much better than staying in La Spezia, not as quaint as cinque terre but more restaurants/shops/etc than any of the villages

Review 109:Could not communicate with owners no English spoken Kitchen had no jug no toaster etc was advertised as full kitchen sevice

Review 110:View from balcony Size of unit

Review 111:Road just outside can be noisy from the odd bus but not in the evenings. You do have neighbours of course.

Review 112:Fantastic location and views. Very clean apartment. I know the area well and I picked this for it's views. I wish we stayed longer.

Review 113:- Internet was a bit slow in some areas of the accommodation but not really a concern.

Review 114:- The location and views were very underplayed n the advertisement. It said sea views from balcony but what it didn't mention was it was 180 degree views of the whole porto venere from the balcony. It was beautiful- the owner and host was very friendly. warm and inviting and spoke english as well. - the location is A1.far enough from the center of porto venere not to be surrounded by the hussle but close enough to walk. - would definitely come back and stay!

Review 115:bottle of homemade wine, view, apartment, terrace,

Review 116:No internet in the room

Review 117:Nice View Good Staff

Review 118:Wifi signal was weak.

Review 119:Location was very good with view of the bay, covered parking, and the hosts are very friendly.

Review 120:No elevator. Weak WiFi coverage. No room cleaning during the stay.

Review 121:Fantastic view. Fully equipped apartment. Free parking. Very friendly host family.

Review 122:Its not a hotel so you have to advice the owner the time you will arrive, so its not that flexible.

Review 123:Martina is really very nice, very nice place.

Review 124:Not clean in some spots

Review 125:New apartment

Review 126:Missed coffee facilities.

Review 127:It was comfortable and clean and the owners were very nice although the lady couln't speak Englisch. Such a nice couple.

Review 128:wifi signal - need to use outside roof

Review 129:The view, kitchen and can catch boat to see the 5 hills towns
