Reviews for Giardinetto
Review 1:Our bathroom had a drainy smell, although everything worked and the room was kept very clean. For our taste (we're not fish eaters) the menu was quite restrictive and (the A La Carte) menu didn't change during our 11 night stay. We only had dinner once during our stay - but the lunch snack menu was good value and the portion sizes were large!
Review 2:Hotel's location right on the lake is stunning; we paid for a superior lake view room - worth every penny; lovely big room, bathroom and balcony; the continental breakfast was very good. We booked B&B (not half board) and really enjoyed the restaurants of Pettenasco for dinner (which were an easy walk of 0.5 - 1 km away). We opted for the kettle/tea/coffee etc. in our room which was good value at Eur3/day (if staying 7 nights or more).
Review 3:paid for a better room overlooking the lake, good bathroom but room needed painting and upgrading. Lots of road noise and you could hear every word from the room next door.
Review 4:Good location overlooking lake orta
Review 5:Breakfast a bit disappointing, especially the coffee. They need to do something about the coffee machine!
Review 6:Peaceful location, fantastic restaurant, spacious room with great views over the lake.
Review 7:The restaurant was expensive for the quality and service was pretty long. We didn't have a double bed
Review 8:private "beach" to the lake with possibility to order drinks, great views on the lake in the restaurant and breakfast room.
Review 9:Not walking distance from lake orta which we knew however it was very difficult to get taxis after 12 therefore next time we would stay closer.
Review 10:Lovely comfortable hotel with stunning lake views! Friendly staff.
Review 11:Bit of a distance from the main towns on the lake. Bed not that comfy and wifi really poor / difficult to connect to
Review 12:Great location on the lake with private beach and pool.
Review 13:Somewhat overpriced. Hotel is in essence quite old, although modern extensions are in place, making it a rather eclectic combination of spaces. Additional fees for use of swimming material appears strange, on top of a considerable price
Review 14:Pool and lakeside terrace/swimming are top. Breakfast as well.
Review 15:Not enough sunbeds. People were allowed to claim them with towels for the day and then not lie on them. Showers were very high up and difficult to get down from.
Review 16:The location was wonderful. Lunches were excellent. The staff were very friendly and approachable.
Review 17:Lake views are spectacular. Food was very good. Room over the lake was good. We had to switch to a different room the next day due to unavailability of rooms. The room over the back was simple but had no views and was much below our expectations. The bar was small and the bartenders were very average except for Angelo who serve my wife the best strawberry martini she ever had. Breakfast was was very average . Coffee made out a machine and self served. No omelette except on request. My suggestion is to improve breakfast and to have 1 or 2 dedicated professional bartenders instead of cross training the all staff for that purpose.
Review 18:Bathroom was very small, breakfast selection could be improved.
Review 19:Beautiful location overlooking Lake Orta. Old style hotel but lovely bright modern room. Had first class air con.Evening meal in restaurant was excellent - food and service.
Review 20:The property was very dark and ill-lit, especially so for the hallways inside leading to all interior rooms. Shabby decor; needs big update.
Review 21:The location on Lake Orta.
Review 22:Dinner was slightly dissappointing. Could have done with more loungers rather than deckchairs as these were uncomfortable.
Review 23:Great location, comfortable room, friendly staff. Could do with a little updating in rooms but clean and comfortable. Note probably worth checking the lake view room you are getting. Ours was a corner with a smaller view of the lake and their little beach and not as good as others.
Review 24:Getting out of the car parks needs a mirror to see cars coming as it is impossible to see both ways. There was a wedding on one evening and the car parks were absolutely full so I parked right outside reception which made someone angry because I had a notice on the window and the hire car was also scratched along the door which I have to sort out. I don't blame the hotel for this.
Review 25:Location. Good hotel services including a nice breakfast with fresh food and a good choice.
Review 26:Only one thing which is that the shower could have been bigger!
Review 27:Love the stunning view from our Superior Lake View Room, and the warmth of all the staff in this friendly hotel. We have stayed here before, and now it is even better and such good value.
Review 28:The hotel looks in need of a makeover in both the public areas and the rooms.
Review 29:This was our second stay, primarily because of the high standard of food and service in the restaurant. Sitting outdoors on a warm evening is magic.
Review 30:The room we had didn't have a proper double bed as I had booked but this isn't a complaint, we did upgrade the room when we checked in instead of taking the room we had booked, just something to be aware of.
Review 31:The staff were very friendly and welcoming and seemed to speak a variety of languages (at least English and French that I heard, as well as Italian obviously). We were able to upgrade to a lake view room for a small charge which was well worth it - the view from our balcony was beautiful. The food in the restaurant in the evening was fantastic, as was the lakeside table. We had the chef's tasting menu with wine pairings and it all worked very well together. Highly recommended!
Review 32:Reception staff were unhelpful. Constantly on phone & ignoring guests. Decor of hotel. Very dark inside.
Review 33:Restaurant, food & waiting staff who were excellent.
Review 34:Hotel advertises a €20 taxi return to lake orta . However we were charged €40 return trip the hotel were not interested in resolving this issue ! Needs tea and coffee facilities in room and snack menu at lunchtime.
Review 35:Excellent Views from room . Food was very good but menu didn't alter during our stay . Friendly staff .
Review 36:Nothing comes to mind.
Review 37:A lovely, family run. hotel in a delightful lakeside location just a few minutes drive to Orta San Giulio which is a charming little town. The staff were friendly, helpful and spoke good english. I was particularly impressed by the restaurant. Cuisine, wines & service were all excellent. I took away some happy memories and hope to return for more.
Review 38:not easy to walk from the hotel. There is a short footpath section near the hotel, but apart from that, it is only a busy road to Orta S G
Review 39:lovely views and balcony over lake
Review 40:The dinner menu was limited. We had go out to find new restaurants for dinner. Breakfast was often something of a 'scramble' for the self service buffet - not relaxing at all which was a great shame in such a beautiful location.
Review 41:The views were beautiful. The staff were very helpful.
Review 42:Lack of provision of less formal evening meals Its better to have a car or means of transport to get the best of this beautiful region
Review 43:Location Breakfast al fresco Helpful Staff
Review 44:Very difficult to answer this question.
Review 45:Giardinetto was a very picturesque and relaxing environment. Excellent food and very comfortable accommodation. The perfect antidote to a very busy period in our lives. We look forward to returning as soon as possible.
Review 46:The wifi was hit and miss, and we weren't able to get it in our room. Our room was at the front of the hotel and some nights it could be noisy with motorbikes. This shouldn't put you off as the view, food, and general ambience of the hotel could not be faulted.
Review 47:The staff were very helpful, spoke excellent English, and nothing was a trouble. The wine and food couldn't be faulted, and due to very little shops and bars near the hotel we ate 5 out 6 nights in the restaurant. Rooms were clean and tidy.
Review 48:Nothing
Review 49:Everything. Views from our room balcony, restaurant ( very good food ) and terrace were excellent. The management and staff were great, got the balance just right between being efficient and friendly, plenty of car parking space. We will definitely return next year.
Review 50:Absolutely nothing.
Review 51:The Hotel Giardinetto, and the Lake Orta area, exceeded all our hopes and expectations, and we had a wonderfully relaxing holiday. Staff throughout the hotel were helpful and spoke good English. The restaurant provided excellent quality, with my wife's special dietary needs being well catered for. Don't believe all the comments about the road outside the hotel being unbearably noisy. A lake view balcony might be nice, but absolutely nothing affected our sleep after days of walking, fresh air and good food. We felt welcomed wherever we went and loved the fact that the area is unspoilt by the tourist industry.
Review 52:The initial appearance on arrival
Review 53:I had been ill before arriving. The team were so accommodating and helpful an arranged for a tray to be brought up to our room with pasta and olive oil , delicsious thank you x
Review 54:Decor to rooms a bit dated , distance to Orta , not really possible to walk much as roads a bit dangerous & Taxis quiet expensive , A Bus 2 or 3 times a day & in the evening to Orta would be super
Review 55:Setting with View of lake , pool area & restaurant, Breakfast was very good, Staff very helpful , a very relaxing feel
Review 56:The main road is noisy so it is worth paying extra for the lakeside rooms.
Review 57:The fabulous view excellent food and lovely staff. We had a modernised room with a lovely bathroom.
Review 58:Lovely hotel bedrooms with lake views food excellent and good price, lunch is very good value any omelette and chips 8 euros good freeparking and wifi
Review 59:Traffic noise - even on the lake side. Bed - very hard, cheap mattress. Reception staff rather glum at times! Yoga position to enter and leave shower. The hotel is trading on its position and reputation rather than working hard to maximize the comfort and enjoyment of its clients. Perhaps this is the Italian way but with rooms at 130 Euros a night, HG needs to do more.
Review 60:The food - breakfast and dinner were excellent. View from balcony - beautiful. Location and ease of travelling to other attractions (Orta, mountains, Milan, Lago Maggiore.
Review 61:To be fussy, less deckchairs and more sunbeds would improve the lakeside bathing facilities immensely - deckchairs not comfortable. The restaurant was very good, but food very rich to have every evening, so an alternative 'barfood' menu would be good served on the breakfast room terrace so that you don't need to leave hotel to find another place to eat.
Review 62:Welcome and hospitality consistently excellent.
Review 63:Noisy street Too hard (single) beds All lounge chairs occupied from early morning Small, dark, old fashioned rooms Wifi extremely slow
Review 64:Location / view over lake Restaurant (some courses wre fabulous, some however not so)
Review 65:1) Swimming pool was large and well maintained, but was closed while we were there 2) Host offered aperitif (prosecco) and it appeared on the bill
Review 66:1) Excellent gourmet restaurant (a bit pricey though) 2) Private dock for ferry service to Orta San Giulio 3) Pleasant international clientele 4) Wide screen TV in lobby for watching World Cup soccer
Review 67:Had to change rooms because they only had a room with a view for one night. View room--no bidet, no toilet paper holder--(just sitting on the cabinet) -plastic cups wrapped in cello like Motel Six in US -- dinner was very mediocre and menu translated incorrectly. I speak both Italian and English. Only made the mistake of eating there once. Internet had to be reconnected every 30 minutes. The second room was better, but we traded the comfort for a view and sound of the road about 30 meters away. This was our 13th trip to Italy. It's not like we are new at this game. We know what to expect, and we have stayed in many hotels, B and Bs, apartments, and villas. How did this place ever get a 4.4 star rating???? It's 2.5.
Review 68:The view from the public patio.
Review 69:Without a car , travel options limited to infrequent ferry mainly to Orta. Could not walk anywhere as road too busy and too narrow.
Review 70:Great view from our room. Essential to have lake view. Good restaurant and wine list. Good base for visiting Orta.
Review 71:Wifi never worked
Review 72:Location - perfect, excellent views from the window and balcony. Very good breakfast. We enjoyed it very much.
Review 73:Rooms a little disappointing Foyer needs an urgent make-over
Review 74:Food excellent Location excellent
Review 75:Location directly on lake
Review 76:The location could not have been better. The food was excellent in a wonderful setting. Staff excellent and well informed.
Review 77:a quiet retreat following a hectic roadtrip of northern italy with a 13 month old toddler. great service. a delight
Review 78:The pool and lake area was lovely and the view from room 126 is amazing. The terrace is also a lovely area with great views
Review 79:the breakfast was so simple with limited choices ,,,
Review 80:the view and the diner location and the pool
Review 81:Al fresco dining by the lake and location.
Review 82:Good family run hotel, everybody was helpful Location was out of this world. We had a bedroom over looking the lake.
Review 83:It was very good
Review 84:wifi not available in room Wifi needs to be reconnected every time
Review 85:Location
Review 86:Bath and shower could be upgraded.
Review 87:Right on the lake side with wonderful views and access to lake for swimming, plus a pool!
Review 88:Tired room ceiling falling down in bathroom. Bathroom dark.
Review 89:Location setting of lake
Review 90:Small shower cubicle for superior room.
Review 91:Very accomodating and friendly staff. Superb restaurant, a very special dinning experience.

Review 99:Wifi not very good in our room. Confusing orientation in the building.
Review 100:Pool and the location near the lake.
Review 101:Family run. Very friendly staff. Attention to detail . Great food . Lovely ambience
Review 102:Poor wifi, only managed to get on once! Shower was cold. Breakfast choice limited
Review 103:The location and view from our very comfortable room.
Review 104:Restaurant staff not very helpful whilst reception staff were. No bar person around to get a drink early evening.

Review 109:very little but signposting for hotel being more clear would be helpful,
Review 110:position facilities staff and quality of restaurant
Review 111:Eccentric décor and furnishings. Weird layout of public rooms.
Review 112:Great location, comfortable bed in lake view room.
Review 113:Not being able to safely walk to the village.
Review 114:Dining at the lakeside dining room and the staff were very pleasant and helpful.
Review 115:Wonderful hotel located right on the lake. Staff really helpful and friendly. Incredible lake views. Would definitely go back!
Review 116:NOTHING
Review 117:THE VIEW FROM MY ROOM. THE VERY ATTENTIVE STAFF AND EXCELLENT RESTAURANT
Review 118:Everything! Fab location, super food , lovely staff. Wonderful.
Review 119:Nothing!
Review 120:Breakfast by the lake, sunbathing on the deck & swimming by the pool- & being just a 5 min drive from Orta
Review 121:Leaving
Review 122:Location at the water's edge, helpful staff, excellent restaurant, parking, welcoming, bedroom with balcony overlooking the lake a must.
Review 123:The facilities such as swimming pool and area with sunbeds are in need of updating. The hotel is 3 star but the restaurant is trying to be 5 star and not sure it comes off. Same menu every night we stayed so not sure I would eat there on a regular basis, however we did find out about a small restaurant with walking distance which was excellent. Breakfast was OK struggled to find a decent cup of coffee though.
Review 124:Great room with a balcony overlooking the lake.
Review 125:Pettenasco itself is not very charming, and we could not find an open restaurant for lunch.
Review 126:Very welcoming staff Fantastic view from the room and the restaurant Tasty food
Review 127:Room itself was quite mediocre for the price. Hot water did not work well. Hotel is o.k but not really stylish. Restaurant is the nicest part.
Review 128:Nice view of lake from the room, but only to one side because we were in a corner. Very lovely view from the restaurant! We ate a la carte, which is not cheap, but what we chose was delicious. Extensive wine list. Friendly service.
Review 129:Overall no major dislikes apart from intermittent hot & cold water!
Review 130:Proximity to Lago d'Orta, upgraded to camera 109 which was excellent.Quiet but easy walks beside the lake. Food and service most enjoyable with our limited but functional Italian! Would happily return.
Review 131:Couldn't use the balcony because of swallows, who had a nest over each balcony in the section where we were given a room. A major drawback.
Review 132:Location, view, parking. A boat stops twice a day in each direction to Orta San Giulio. Decent restaurant for lunch and dinner. Breakfast also good. Very good wine list.
Review 133:Beautiful situation overlooking the lake. Relaxing, pretty, chilled and friendly hotel. A few minutes by car to Orta - not really walkable in the evenings but a couple of nice eating places within short walking distance and lovely food at the hotel.
Review 134:Nothing at all.
Review 135:This is a fabulous hotel with a wonderful location on the shores of the lake. Really beautiful with lots of facilities and the most fabulous restaurant overlooking the lake. Very nice classically styled rooms, very friend people, great facilities. Would love to go back soon. In fact I would like to take up residence there.
