Reviews for Hotel Villa Villoresi

Review 1:Poor breakfast. Worse bathroom. From the staff at the reception we experienced an unfriendly and unprofessional approach to us after we decently asked for any (even small or symbolic) discount from the full price of one night accomodation which they charged us despite to the fact that the whole morning there was not available electricity as well as any water hot or cold due to some unexpected problem (from early morning till our check out at 11 am=50% of our stay). However it sounds incredible they didn't find any one reason to give us any even symbolic discount from the full price we got via Booking.com, so we had to pay also for the service and quality that they had not been able to provide at that time.

Review 2:They had an issue processing our credit card. This happened 2 years ago as well. Both times, we had to walk to a nearby bank to pull out cash which took us about 45 minutes to an hour. Supposedly it was faster to walk than drive, or so we were told. This time, however, when we got back, they had finally managed to process our card. Unfortunately, it cost us the precious time we needed to accomplish our goals for the day in Lucca/Pisa & we missed visiting the church we had so wanted to see in Pisa. Understand it was simply an internet connection that caused the problem both times. It happens...can't hold that against them. Wonderful staff!!

Review 3:Love the accommodations, but treasure each & every minute afforded visiting w/Christina. Didn't get as much time this visit as 2 years prior, but loved the few minutes we had.

Review 4:We were charged $19 euros to iron 2 shirts and a short pant! We asked for an iron to do it ourself and they did NOT have any for patrons. Overpriced the entire room. Drainages were not draining, not heating, bidet was useless. Bed from mid 1900's uncomfortable and noisy. Never again in this place!

Review 5:Old house with grand entrance

Review 6:The old, dirty carpet in the bedroom. The bathroom had a very smallshower, I am not a small person and I found it hard to maneuver myselfaround. I was able to hear the other people next to me. The had a windowbut felt dark. The photos do not tell the true story of the villa. Iwould not recommend or stay in the villa again. Shame on Booking.com forpromoting the villa/hotel.

Review 7:The room was smaller than we thought it would be looking at the pictures. There is a big difference in between the standard and superior rooms.

Review 8:The building was beautiful, a great place to relax. Evening meal was lovely 25 euros for 3 courses.

Review 9:We were very satisfied, first contact was amazing, very beautiful place with famous history and perfect style of architecture with nice garden swimming pool.

Review 10:There was no water fir the whole day and night. We didnt know what to do, especially on very hot days.

Review 11:Atmosphere of old Roman villa. Very beautiful ancient building with vintage furniture. You feel like in Mide Ages. Nice lemon garden which surrounds a swimming pool.

Review 12:The genuine charm of past splendour. The evening meal was delicious and good value for money. We had a problem with our hire car but the hotel were very helpful in helping us sort out a potential nightmare and deserve a special mention. I wish we could have stayed longer. Taking a train into Florence was cheap and easy.

Review 13:The hotel was fine the only problem was that the last train back from Florence was at 10pm so you could not enjoy the night life there

Review 14:The place was very relaxing

Review 15:I was there with four colleagues - we were astounded by the beauty, the staff and owner were exceptional, the place convenient to the airport and the pool lovely. We want to go back next time I'm in Florence!

Review 16:It was a shame that the water went out due to local repair work in the district but there was nothing the hotel could have done about it.

Review 17:Absolutely gorgeous building so full of history. Lovely staff who make you feel very welcome and at home.

Review 18:The stair to the upstairs contained 25 very steep steps . There was no mention of this. The Mosquitos were very active .we found this to be a real problem.

Review 19:The setting was fine , the pool was fine ,

Review 20:The villa was absolutely spectacular. Authentic and the contessa Christina was warm, accommodating, and welcoming. She ate dinner with the guests. Highly recommend this unique place to stay when visiting Florence.

Review 21:Madame Cristina Villoresi is the reason for our delight in this hotel: she is such a charming, elegant lady who arranged a birthday cake for our daughter and joined us, making the occasion superb!

Review 22:The sense of history emanated from every room. The fact that it didn't try too hard and just let the quiet, dignified, slightly faded atmosphere embrace you as a guest was lovely. The way the people looked after us was also treasured.

Review 23:The mosquitoes are in abundant supply in Florence and the Villa is not excepted from that.

Review 24:I loved the rustic feel of the place, that it has not lost it's Renaissance charm even in the modern world. The food is terrific and the conversation better. The homemade limoncello is particularly excellent.

Review 25:A fabulous place. Murals and frescoes line the main house. We only staid the night, so "our" room was a quite ordinary double room. Dinner with four Americans (and the Contessa)will stay with us for a long time.

Review 26:We expected that we were booking a local hotel or b&b that would put us near our sight seeing goals in Florence. When we arrived, we thought we'd accidentally entered someone's home - and a beautiful, fresco covered, crystal chandelier filled Tuscan Villa at that. The staff was friendly, the breakfast was good and the house is filled with art and history.

Review 27:The swimming pool was not open which was a disappointment to our granddaughter. The property was difficult to find even with GPS.

Review 28:The property was very attractive.

Review 29:Nothing really

Review 30:Not easy to review as its a hotel like no other, more like staying in a museum. Plumbing a bit suspect but if you are in a 700 year old building then you cant expect perfection. And its all a bit tired but id recommend anyone to stay, unique, interesting and the most wonderful experience

Review 31:A restructuring would be needed. Everything is old and without maintenance. The room had unpleasant smell of smoke.

Review 32:A typical Tuscan villa that has the effect of going back in time. Pleasant silence, convenient location for those traveling by car.

Review 33:The bed was about the same age as the building and the breakfast was quite poor too. Not recomended for people with spinal problems.

Review 34:This hotel is like nothing else on the world. The living history. Every moment of the stay was an experience.

Review 35:The room was amazingly full of dust; the cleaning was superficial. The doorknob of the bathroom was broken. In addition, the main door of the room was thin, thus providing poor sound isolation and privacy.

Review 36:The landscape, and calm.

Review 37:The owner cannot cope with the size of the facility. Downsizing the structure to the original villa will be the main key to a new success.

Review 38:It is a historic building with great potential but lost track of time.

Review 39:Nothing

Review 40:This hotel is a world away from the bland corporate piles. A large building that was home to a family for generations which oozes character with something to be seen and savoured on every wall and in every corner. Various sizes of rooms, some open on to a wide common balcony with a wonderful view. Gardens waiting to be explored, there's an outdoor pool with a bar adjacent. Good food, served in a beautiful room. The staff made me feel like one of the family.

Review 41:Shower in bathroom could use updating and it had low water pressure.

Review 42:Our terrace room overlooking the garden was quite charming and the room was quite spacious. Antique furniture was nice. Staff was very accommodating and restaurant was good.

Review 43:Just remember it is an older home and don't expect a Sheraton.

Review 44:The fact this was an historic mansion. Very close to Sesto Fiorentino our destination. Excellent food and wine choices. Like staying in an art gallery.

Review 45:I loved the villa. If you are looking for shabby chic in its rawest form then Villa Villoresi is for you. Many different areas to sit yourself down in and enjoy the 11th century villa.

Review 46:The peace and tranquil settings where just what the doctor ordered, Relaxation after a on the go day of visiting Firenze, with a bottle of wine and a bite to eat with the woman you love

Review 47:The towels provided were little thicker than tea towels and not much bigger!

Review 48:A step back into history in the best sense of the term. Amazing frescoes and historical artefacts everywhere. Quiet and peaceful. Very friendly staff, including the Contessa herself!

Review 49:The vicinity is not very exciting. There is actually nothing in Sesto Fiorentino. The local train station is however not far away and the hotel has plenty of parking place.

Review 50:When I first entered Villa Villoresi I became curious. What will happen, what will it be like? It is an old, very old manor house with extreme charm and a wealth of history where nothing is very modern, streamlined and effective but everything is exciting. It is not luxury, it is not exclusive in the modern way. It is rather oldish elegant and a bit slow and very relaxed. Staying at Villa Villoresi is very much as living in an old film :-) The practical things that must work does work. It is clean and proper, wifi works, parking is there and the pool if fine. The restaurant serves well made Italian food, what more can I ask for.

Review 51:the cleanliness, lack of staff, poor food, negligible breakfast, rats, mosquito's, food not covered, towels, bathroom. pool not chlorinated. very expensive and poor choice evening menu

Review 52:nothing

Review 53:However, the property is a bit crumbly and the villa's best days seem to be behind it.

Review 54:The villa and the owner of the villa were both amazing. A lovely, warm woman, Cristina, and the frescos, furniture and villa itself were worth staying for.

Review 55:Everything : villa with fresco and authentic furniture, twin rooms for the children, old library, wonderfull garden, swiming pool, loggia, wifi, very good restaurant, kindness of the staff and the owner! 15 min train to Fierenza. An hotel we hope to go again!

Review 56:quiet residential area with few facilities

Review 57:beautiful old house in residental suburb of Florence - delightful pool in an attractive garden - wonderful owner and staff

Review 58:The rooms were unpleasantly decorated, stuff and very smelly. The swimming pool was dirty and the bottom was full of leaves. There were broken tiles around the pool and the floor was uneven. Rooms were found along long, dark, badly decorated and smelly corridors. The staff were unfriendly and at points rude. The location was in the middle of a suburban street. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.

Review 59:Absolutely nothing.

Review 60:Some of the hotel is like I say a little faded and in need of TLC, however if it were polished to the point of nearby villa Stanley I'd feel underdressed and out of place. The Villoresi is as relaxed as a holiday itself should be

Review 61:The owner, the lovely Cristina in her 70's welcomes you like a grandmother. Most people use it as a touring base so if you want a day by the pool you may have it to yourself. A lovely faded old gem of a building, the better rooms ie the tower and the ones on the loggia are full of history and character and you'll feel like a king in the loggia rooms in particular

Review 62:Nothing to dislike.

Review 63:Unique, intriguing and a truly enchanting experience. A wonderful villa and Cristina is a fascinating hostess.

Review 64:It looks really old, and needs refresment.

Review 65:A memory of a place where we stayed a few days in 1978. Nothing different, but a swimming pool added.

Review 66:The property was a perfect location for Florence

Review 67:Beautiful house

Review 68:Everything

Review 69:20 minutes to center of Florenze.

Review 70:Authentic building in cottage house stile. Excellent service. No noice from the environments.

Review 71:Special place with history from the Rennaissance. Beautiful furnishings and atmosphere.

Review 72:Internet connection

Review 73:Grand space and kind managers and workers, and history and landscape

Review 74:-beautiful, old house, looks just like a museum -excellent restaurant -friendly staff -nice rooms and views

Review 75:The room itself was beautiful The hotel was spacious and beautifully decorated The service was personal

Review 76:Very tired. Garden was overgrown. I saw a rat on the loggia.it was very hard to find.

Review 77:It was very charming and original, a piece of history.

Review 78:Wifi was badly intermittent and the food was terrible and over-priced.

Review 79:The relaxing ambience and the style of the main rooms on the loggia.

Review 80:After checking into the room we had trouble fitting our luggage since the room was small. Everything in the room including the bathroom was old school. My wife didn't like the bed or bathroom. I thought the bathroom was clean but again old. We didn't care for the dinner at night at the hotel where we got indifferent service and average food but found it to be convenient.

Review 81:This is an old Hotel that appears at first glance to be run down but there's something to be said for old world charm. The proprietor was a very nice lady and the hotel has a mystique about it that's somewhat compelling. The staff there were very nice and helpful. We found the breakfast to be very adequate. There's an outdoor pool which we didn't use but saw people in it.

Review 82:We were treated as the welcome guests of the noble family who have lived for generations in the 700 year old Villa Villoresi. The magnificent long stately gallery that is the entrance to the Villa, the comfortable, richly stocked library, the large beautifully appointed dining room, the courtyard and the peaceful, quiet, park-like grounds enfolded us. The staff were helpful, friendly, warm and personable and went out of their way to look after us. (When we arrived at 3:00 pm, hungry, Christina arranged for Danieli to prepare us a tasty lunch and serve us in the Courtyard. After lunch we were treated to the Villa's own dessert wine and the specially chosen biscotti that accompany it.) Our room was charming with a bright very large wall painting of the Tuscan countryside and the ensuite bathroom had excellent facilities. Later, at dinner in the impressive dining room, we were served excellent food - a pairing of fresh, firm pear slices with Tuscan Peccorini cheese was an exciting, delectable blend. The long second floor loggia offers repose and great views across the swimming pool, to an ancient tower and Firenze. Bliss!

Review 83:The triple room does not have a pull out couch even though booking states it does. The beds are a bit uncomfortable and you can hear all your neighbors.

Review 84:This place has so much classic Italian character. Beautiful facility in the spring, and so much history to learn when you read the room informational folder. The large shared balcony for all the rooms is fantastic.

Review 85:The attitude of the staff is absolutely horrible. We booked a doubleroom, described as 25 square feet with balcony and a view. We travelled400 kilometers to stay at the place, because the description andpictures of the room were magnificent. We were given a small room in thebasement, without balcony, smelling like mold. When we complained thatthis is not the reservation we made, we were called cheap several times"for booking the cheap rooms", my girlfriend was pinched bythe owner and threatened with a cane. The owner said that shedoesn't care what it says on booking.com and that these are"the cheap rooms. If we wanted balcony, we should have paidmore". After the scandal and spending half an hour on the phonewith booking.com we were offered a room with a balcony looking towards aprison like courtyard. (The only one of the double rooms which has abalcony). We didn't want to stay at the hotel after being treatedlike that, as there is no place around to eat and we had to have dinnerwith these horrible people. We were told that we would be charged forthe two nights we reserved. Thanks to booking.com's interference wewere charged only one night and we were reimbursed for half of thatmoney. The fact that we travelled 400 kilometers to stay there anddecided to not stay and start looking for a new hotel at night shouldsay enough.Beware: The standard double rooms DO NOT have balconies. They are in the basement; they are small and smell horribly of mold. Everything is old. If you complain, you will be treated awfully.

Review 86:Very nice yard

Review 87:- shower was a little disappointing (warmish dribble) - restaurant was a little pricey but nice - breakfast (cheapest ingredients eg:processed cheese, reformed ham )

Review 88:- lovely old villa, you feel like you are in a time warp. - very helpful & friendly staff - rooms which open to loggia are fantastic and a must have!

Review 89:Ancient villa is fine as hotel if rooms and bathrooms are updated according to modern needs. In this case they are not. Small spaces, humidity.

Review 90:Location. Close to the city, wonderful ancient villa.

Review 91:A place with such a sense of history, it was a privilege to stay there. Christina, her family and staff were very friendly and helpful. The position, only 20 minutes by train to Florence was very convenient and relaxing to return to after a day exploring the City or countryside. We extended our stay by 2 nights. It was hard to leave.

Review 92:Hotel needs updating, bathroom poor. General maintainance sadly lacking in the hotel and the grounds.. Breakfast poor, bread not fresh daily and little choice. Dinner good.

Review 93:Charming staff in what must have once been a superb hotel. Ancient building with lots of history.

Review 94:The wi-fi was spotty. I wasn't particularly surprised given the location, but it's something to take into account. Everything else was amazing!

Review 95:Everything! Christina is a wonderful host! This is a great opportunity to stay in a country villa outside the main city! The loggia is a great place to hang out, and all of the rooms are special! The restaurant is a wonderful example of Tuscan cuisine, and the staff live to serve!

Review 96:absolutely everything. The accommodation is superb as is the hospitality. The train is cheap and frequent to get to Florence. Wish we had booked more than 2 nights. We were on the first floor with a view overlooking the garden up a stone staircase.

Review 97:Run-down business. Beds, rooms, bathrooms were cramped and falling apart. Does not look as nice as the pictures. Nothing to eat nearby and the hotel restaurant is overpriced. The grounds are overgrown and obviously not properly maintained. Do not stay here.

Review 98:Pretty cheap. The croissants in the morning were really good.

Review 99:The very steep stairs with only a rope handrail. Tricky for the mature!

Review 100:What a quaint hotel. Very different from the usual. Old and somewhat dilapidated in parts, it revealed a bygone age and life-style.

Review 101:I felt myself like one of the large family who came to see Cristina Velloresi and stay at beauteful place for a couple of days. It was a great plesure for me and my family

Review 102:Eating out not easy in August; toiletries not replaced after first day

Review 103:Swimming pool, historical building, good restaurant (even though rather expensive and with limited menu, not suitable for young children)

Review 104:Room was quite small, villa seems a bit rundown/neglected - cobwebs everywhere, bug screens on windows torn, gardens not well maintained

Review 105:The history of the villa, the preserved original frescoes, art, furniture. This place has huge potential but needs some TLC

Review 106:Not a dislike as such, but the hotel is run on a skeleton staff level sosometimes you need to hunt for someone to serve you a beer in thedaytime, but as said in the positives, they are probably not used topeople spending the entire day there

Review 107:A tranquil relaxing haven, the walled garden and pool area mean youcould be anywhere. Most use it as a base for touring Italy rather thanlike a resort hotel so you may have the hotel to yourself all day.Peace and quiet is fantastic, and the lady who runs it is lovely andwelcoming. As a suburb of a suburb it is just a few minutes drive intothe Tuscan hills behind the villa, and also has good road and raillinks nearby

Review 108:it was a wonderful villa with an atmosphere that modern hotels will never have, with a dignity only a villa that is 12th century could have and with an owner that there is sadly very few of .

Review 109:Fabulous staff, friendly owner.Hotel manager suggested and booked timed entrance to sights in Florence. A very warm and homely house, we were treated and made to feel like family. Easy access to Florence

Review 110:We had to look for a staff member on arrival, who took us to our room then disappeared before telling us where the dining room was, when breakfast was served or any other information, including that there was no hot water at the time. The room was very dusty & not cleaned while we were there. The owner didn't greet us when we saw her, no apology was made for the lack of hot water. We were offered no information about the hotel or the area.

Review 111:The house is very impressive and the fireflies in the garden beautiful. The cappuccino at breakfast were very good. The bed was comfortable. Although a 25min walk to the station, Sesto is very pleasant.

Review 112:The only negative about this entire hotel and/or property was thewater pressure. It did take a little while to draw a bath. While itdidn't bother us, felt it was worth mentioning so that others thatare picky about that sort of thing would be fair warned. With all of themore than awesome positive attributes of this hotel, who cares aboutslow running water?!?

Review 113:Literally had searched for hours online for that "perfect"place & knew instantly when reviewing it that this was mostdefinitely the one for us! One can hardly narrow down our love for thishotel to one particular thing. We loved it all! It is what it claims tobe...."a villa-hotel, retaining the elegance & charm of a nobleTuscan country villa, while offering a traditionally warm &welcoming atmosphere"...and even more! If you want to experiencewhat true Italy is all about, then this is the place to do it. Most ofall, we loved our time spent w/the owner, the lovely Christina. Wefelt like we were visiting w/family & hated to leave! If &when we are ever afforded the opportunity to return to Florence, you canbe sure we will be returning to the Villa Villoresi! Tomorrow would notbe too soon for me!!

Review 114:Inconvenient without a car and very difficult to find with a car. Needs cleaning and painting (although that would cover abundant and beautiful frescos). Must climb 26 steps to reach room floor. Smoking odors noticible and ashtrays everywhere.

Review 115:Historic 500-year-old villa overlooking Florence and Sesto countryside. Elegant hand-painted frescos in every room including bedrooms. Real period furniture everywhere. Friendly and helpful staff including owner Christina. Live the way nobles did hundreds of years ago. Good buffet breakfast. 15 minutes to historic Florence via train.

Review 116:Hot water pressure is very weak - it will take hours to fill a bathtub and the shower is barely tolerable.

Review 117:Very nice hotel if you want to stay outside of the city center (close to the airport for example) and avoid parking costs.

Review 118:The owner is getting on in years, and she is having trouble keeping upthe grounds, the garden was starting to become over grown. All thefurniture was antique, with some of the seat cushions no longer holdingtheir form.

Review 119:The hotel was older, and at one time was a grand manor. Frescos were onall walls and on the ceiling. The history of the building was writtendown and there is a story for every part of the house. The room had aheater and a private bathroom, and it slept all five of us in one room. The owner was a very nice lady, and accommodating. She provided for allour needs without complaint and was able to provide directions/ tipsfor sights to see in Florence.

Review 120:It was a little dusty and kind of like staying a grandmother's housethat is not able to clean well. The bathroom was spotless, but thebedroom furniture had dust. When we first got there we thought we mayhave to fight off ghosts at night, but then we got comfortable and itended up being great. The location is not great...it was probablycountry at one time, but it now has apartments boardering the property. The gardens and pool were definitely past their prime (old picturesposted) but the season had been cold and rainy prior to arrival.

Review 121:The villa was cooky but charming. The frescos were beautiful and I feltthat I received a wonderful history lessons. We were greeted by thecontessa herself and shared a coffee. The terrace room had a wonderfulview...always ask for the terrace. The food in the main dining room wasthe best on our trip!

Review 124:long stairs to the room, main office is too far from entrance and very cluttered and needs updating.

Review 125:Parking and grounds.
