Reviews for Cittadella Ospitalità

Review 1:If your aim in staying at Cittadella Ospitalita is to emulate the spartan lifestyle of St Francis of Assisi then this is the place for you. The hotel looks good on the net but is a TOTAL disappointment and shock. The 'hotel' is a series of different buildings. There was no Wi Fi in the building in which I stayed. No TV. No hairdryer. No tea/coffee. No bar fridge. My room had 2 small single beds and cracked linoleum tiles on the floor. The only window was covered with an aluminium slat style shutter that rattled all night. The bathroom? Pokey with repellent looking floor tiles in the shower. Breakfast? Back to the days of St Francis. Ever stayed at a hotel where you had to pay for your morning coffee when the deal includes breakfast? Me either! Breakfast was croissants, yoghurt, jam and un-toasted bread. That's it! No cereals or hot food other Italian hotels serve. No toast. The tea was free but tasted like it had been infused with manure. There was no alternative like Twinings tea on offer. Then there was Basil Fawlty's reincarnation at reception. He smokes on the job. He was unhelpful if not downright obstructive. Reception is located in a different building to the one I was allocated. I had to return to reception across a road twice to ascertain why I couldn't use the hotel's Wi Fi in my room. Each time Basil showed me the hotel's really complicated process of logging on, and yes, I am computer illiterate! He didn't tell me Wi Fi didn't work outside this building. Then a previously unseen (by me) Dutch couple sitting in the dark not far from the desk told me there is no Wi Fi outside the reception building. They were sitting there to access WI Fi. I asked Basil to turn on the lights and he did. Why didn't he do that as soon as they arrived? Cost saving? However, reception closed at 10.00pm so if you hadn't finished communicating with the outside world by then, tough!

Review 2:Nothing.

Review 3:Check out time is 10 a.m. The cleaning lady marched in our room without knocking at 8:50 a. m. to ask when we are leaving. She was not bothered by the fact that my husband was wearing only underwear, and there were no appologizies for the disturbance. When we replied that we are leaving at 10, she said that is far too late because other guests are coming. It was very unpleasant. So if you are staying here always lock the door!

Review 4:Good location.

Review 5:Location was great and onsite parking in historic center combined with good price: this is rarely to be seen. However, there is only few hundred meter to main sites, but reaching all of them require uphill walk, so be prepared :).

Review 6:The rooms were very basic and the bathroom was tiny. The staff spoke limited to no English. Difficult to find upon arrival.

Review 7:Definitely had an institutional feeling to it and felt more like a hospital than a hotel but was very clean. Breakfast was average. Staff was friendly. The location was central.

Review 8:None.

Review 9:Dinner was excellent! Food was not the typical tourist fare--pasta, pizza, etc. It was proper Umbrian. Vegetable soups with pasta, squid in potato salad, ham in omelette roll, spinach cake--very yummy! I'll take my sister and bother-in-law here in Easter.

Review 10:Basement rooms are secluded, small, and claustrophobic.

Review 11:service very good, flexible in meeting our needs for a better room. The rooms are small and very simple. It met our needs for one night. Breakfast was good, place is very secure.

Review 12:The accommodation is simple but fine. Really good value for the money, especially because of the location. Some people may find the breakfast too simple, but if this is not an issue, then its fine. It is not a hotel so much as a very nice, simple, clean conference style stay.

Review 13:We felt this was more like a hostel than a hotel. We would have liked to have a plate to eat our breakfast off! Also room 23 felt very enclosed and had a window with bars on opening onto a small courtyard which was being used as a store by the cleaners. We were woken at 6am by someone talking on their mobile outside the window;.

Review 14:The location and the fact that we could park on site.

Review 15:Great location!

Review 16:Staff at breakfast kept forgetting to provide fresh bottles of water.

Review 17:We loved the view out of our window from the upper building accomodation.

Review 18:there was no refrigerator

Review 19:the room's view was perfect!

Review 20:Breakfast, in italian standard, was not good.

Review 21:Location and safe parking

Review 22:No wifi in the room. Room a bit bleak but with everything needed.

Review 23:Good location, friendly staff

Review 24:wifi in the room didn't work, but that is not the end of the world!

Review 25:the location and affordability

Review 26:The missing shower curtain.

Review 27:The beds and rooms were suitable for sleeping; we spent every waking moment out and about in the city.

Review 28:Very good location

Review 29:Location and the calmness of the area with great view from our room

Review 30:The breakfast and the reception and service was poor.

Review 31:Quiet and very close to the attractions.

Review 32:A quiet place in the city center, good breafast, unobtrusive service.

Review 33:The menu food for the evening was excellent and very very reasonable as well breakfast had a nice variety!

Review 34:tall&big person may think badly of shower.

Review 35:peaceful atmosphere,clean,wide room,

Review 36:The best accommodation for the money. Great location and peaceful garden.

Review 37:separated building a little poor breakfast

Review 38:extremely kind staff harmonious building

Review 39:Only one out of three reception staff was pleasant. The breakfast was not balanced and was always the same. No fruit was offered. If you were to stay there a few days like we did, the same breakfast every morning was not acceptable.

Review 40:The garden and the openness of the reception and the yard.

Review 41:The floor and walls were thin. I heard noise from the neighbors. There was a bath tub but the plug was broken, what a pity.

Review 42:Dinner was fine for 12 Euro with water and local wine and lots of fruits for desert. After walking around all day, and as a solo traveler, it was a good idea eating at the accommodation. The room was simple and clean. I stayed three nights and they cleaned the room every day.

Review 43:The hostel is on a hill and requires walking up many flights of steep stairs to get to the upper town. The bed mattress is very hard and I could not get a good nights sleep.

Review 44:The breakfast was good, the location near to the town.

Review 45:Our room was in a building detached from the main building, up a hill, more like a campus. Except for the man who booked us in, we did not feel a spirit of hospitality from the front desk staff.

Review 46:price was reasonable, and continental breakfast was included

Review 47:It was cold when I was there but as it was May the heaters could not be turned on.

Review 48:The Cittadella is situated in the heart of the old city and convenient for visits to the important sites. The room was basic but comfortable and breakfast was good. Lunch and dinner were also available and very good value for money.

Review 49:It is a religious complex along with library, etc. That is why the sign of the accommodation was relatively hard to find at once. However as long as you can read the map, I believe finding the location wouldn't become a problem.

Review 50:When I opened the window, I could see the spectacular view that is beyond description. I might be lucky as I was assigned on the top floor of the building.

Review 51:The walls were paper-thin. I could hear people answering their phones and having open discussions. Very annoying when you're trying to sleep.

Review 52:I loved the location! Perfectly situated in the heart of Assisi. Great price for the convenience.

Review 53:Out of the way and challenging to find at first. Staff did not speakEnglish. Not nice, but affordable and comfortable. If you are justlooking for a cheap bed, it is good. The wifi was absolutelyterrible!! It only allowed a couple of people on at a time and did notwork in the rooms.

Review 54:Cheap place to stay with private bathroom and breakfast provided.

Review 55:location very good, close to Bascilica of St. Frances. good dinner at very reasonable price. In 1 room, we have a holding toilet basin which I never seen in my life, very interesting yet it is very clean.

Review 56:there was nothing really that I did not like.

Review 57:the hotel was very nice. It had a retreat center feel. It was very clean and the staff was very helpful. the breakfast was delicious. Everything was perfect. I would highly recommend this hotel.

Review 58:The room is slightly old but I am fine with it.The wifi only covered in the lobby area. I got a good offer price in 27eu/night but as if according to normal price in 55EU / night. It is very expensive.

Review 59:Every staffs are very good service and very helpful. The room has cleaning service everyday. Included breakfast is very good. The place is in very good location if you wanted to go to St Francis of Assisi Basilica or St Clare Basillica.

Review 60:Room had a damp musty smell which pervaded the particulary housing block I was in.

Review 61:Excellent tasty and healthy evening meals served by very polite staff.

Review 62:Wi-fi could only be accessed from the lobby/ lounge. Computer for guest use was very slow and did not have a printer. We did ask to have a document printed for us and they were very accommodating. The corridor we were on was next to a street where cars roared by at high speeds. Assisi is a very quiet place (at least when we were there) and it was a bit jarring, but not unbearable. It was unseasonably cold and rainy when we were there. Italy has a law that doesn't allow for central heat to be used after April 1, which would have been a real problem if there hadn't been extra wool blankets for the beds. We also were provided with a small but mighty electric heater that we used to take the chill off of the room before retiring for the evening.

Review 63:This lodging is part of a large Christian Retreat Center located in Assisi. My adult daughter and I stayed for 7 nights in May, 2013. We were looking for clean, budget-friendly lodging and did not need "frills."The center looks to have been built in the 70's and is located two blocks from St. Peter's Square (Piazza de San Pietro), which is where the bus from the Assisi Train Station drops most travelers. This proved to be a very convenient location for us.There were fragrant rose bushes in bloom everywhere and multiple multi-leveled outdoor spaces, some overlooking the valley below. The lobby is spacious and contains multiple sitting areas- comfortable upholstered benches and tables with chairs. In a dining alcove, there is a small concession stand with coffee and hot chocolate service a couple of hours a day in the morning. There are vending machines for snacks and soft drinks. The rooms are spartan and simple. We had a double room that contained two twin beds, two small folding chairs and a small desk. There was a floor-to-ceiling window that opened onto a wrought iron railing. As in most of the places we stayed in Italy, there are no screens on the windows, but we did not have a problem with mosquitoes. The attached bathroom was simple-- pink tile with a sink, toilet and tiled shower. Hot water with a tremendous spray. One of the highlights of our lodging in Italy was taking a shower there. The room came with a continental breakfast: Two different types of cold cereal; three types of juices; croissants; bread; yogurt; milk, coffee, tea; nutella/ jam.It was also possible to eat lunch and/or dinner at the center for 12 Euro, which was a deal.We had dinner, which was multi-coursed and huge-- there was an incredible amount of food, and one could request wine for an additional charge, or bring your own. I am a vegetarian and they were willing to make special meals with a little advance notice.

Review 64:Even taking into account what I said about the spirit of Cittadella, I must say that our room was too small for a couple with two kids. Indeed, it was a small double room with a foldable bunk bed in a corner. The bathroom was also very small.

Review 65:Cittadella is more a cultural center than a standard hotel. So you should not look for plain accomodation, but rather for the atmosphere, the internal bookstore and library, the internal events. In this respect, it is an alternative way to stay at S. Francis's birth place. The location is great (short walking distance from the city center) and very quiet. The staff is friendly and the room was very clean. The view on Valle Umbra from our room was gorgeous. Cittadella offers parking space for people travelling by car (VERY important in Assisi). Free wifi is provided, but only in the main lobby.

Review 66:Nothing to report

Review 67:Everything; have stayed there on numerous occasions. Would recommend to others.

Review 68:ALL OF IT GREAT PLACE TO STAY

Review 69:Wifi not good. Breakfast was limited but enough

Review 70:Great view and perfect location. My wife loved the bath tub!

Review 71:The breakfast is very poor, the worst of my trip and just for 1 hour.

Review 72:The location is good and there is parking.

Review 75:Friendly staff; excellent location and excellent value for money.
