Reviews for Pensione Bencistà
Review 1:This family run pensione had consistently warm, thoughtful and competent staff. The food and service were very good. We loved our 4 day stay and would like to return.
Review 2:The bathroom needs updating. Tiny bath. Also uncomfortable bed. Breakfast not very good
Review 3:The old fashioned feeling and the dining room and evening food were excellent.
Review 4:A lot more tired than the pictures. The spa which looked so appealing was an extra cost and not even open the first day we go there. The facilities weren't shown to us, we had to wonder around and guess.
Review 5:Location and view are great.
Review 6:We liked everything - the nights were very quiet - perfect for us but not if you are looking for a little more excitement. The #7 bus to Florence runs all evening.
Review 7:Everything about Pensione Bencistà felt like a luxry hotel, but the views from the flowered terraces and grounds were the most spectacular. Just a 20 minute bus ride fron the hustle and bustle of Florence and you are transported to a quiet paradise in the lovely town of Fiesole.
Review 8:Mosquitos. Bring bug repellent.
Review 9:The view from the terrace where they serve breakfast and dinner-- amazing! The food was EXCELLENT. Good variety for breakfast (including eggs). Dinner is 20 euro per person, which might sound like a lot, but the quality and quantity of food you get is well worth it. Easily the best dinner we had in Italy!! Easy to catch the #7 bus into Florence (20 min).
Review 10:Leaving, mostly. All else is the cost of doing travel.
Review 11:Old ambience with modern features. Great dinner. Staff was warm and knowledgeable, they allowed me to use my imperfect Italian without immediately demonstrating their strong English language skills.
Review 12:The staff was helpful but not obtrusive, and they kept wonderful dogs on the premises. The view is incomparable from the Wisteria-shaded terrace garden, with all of Firenze spread before you.
Review 13:The food was excellent - breakfast and dinner! The property, with it's outdoor gardens, was relaxing and inviting. We enjoyed the family history, the approachability of the management and staff. We wish we had a week to spend there.
Review 14:Our daughter commented on the lack of TV in the room but with free WIFI soon didn't miss it! We didn't miss it at all!
Review 15:Wonderful ambience and really friendly staff. Fabulous old country mansion in a peaceful location high up above Florence, but with excellent transport links down to Florence and up to Fiesole. Meals were excellent. The old library was a really nice touch. Our daughter loved the friendly old golden Labrador in residence!
Review 16:Nothing
Review 17:The beautiful house, the fantastic view of Florence. The lovely welcoming staff The feeling that you'd arrived in the 1930's the whole place is like a scene from Poirot. And most particularly the dinner gong!
Review 18:room(37) was large with good sized bathroom/tub. room overlooks the entryway with view up the hill towards Fiesole. views of Florence from terrace were beautiful staff was wonderful to get information about driving and getting into Florence(bus 7 takes about 25 minutes to get to Florence(cost 1.5 euro) food was good. road to bus is hilly and takes about 10 minutes to walk. Fiesole is a 20 minute walk uphill on narrow road.
Review 19:The rooms that we accupied 14 and 17 were close to the outdoor terrace area and there was extensive, group, noisy partying going on until late at night. Also, I had to physically hoist my wet wife out of the tiny tub. (no shower).. The rooms we accupied were very small.
Review 20:The location and views of florence were superb. The furnishings were a glorius tumble of antiques and various bric a brac.
Review 21:Leaving!
Review 22:Beautiful setting, a haven from the hustle and bustle of Florence. Charming staff, excellent food & impeccable service. We were very sorry to leave
Review 23:The view of Florence from the many perches around the garden terraces of Pensions Benciste can't be beat. The location, set just far enough from the noise of the city, is easily accessible by bus to all the sights in Florence and Fiesole. The fixed price, full course dinner offered in the hotel's quirky dining room is a great value and tasty treat after a long day of sightseeing. We would definitely stay there again and would happily recommend it to others.
Review 24:Beautiful location giving fabulous views over Florence. Fiesole is a lovely location in its own right with lots to see. Great location to take bus into Florence. Lovely helpful staff. Good food. Beautiful building. Wonderful terraces.
Review 25:I'm sitting here wracking my brain trying to think of something I didn't like about this place and there simply is not one thing I can come up with!
Review 26:Incredible views, staff makes you feel like family, comfortable beds, extremely clean, quiet countryside location, sensational villa ambiance, walking distance from the center of town, plenty of parking.
Review 27:Rather small bath. Several mozzies around in the evening.
Review 28:Wonderful quiet location overlooking the historic City of Florence. Very easy access daily by local bus. A marvelous oasis of calm after a day of impressive culture in the City. A delight to eat breakfast, lunch or dinner on the terrace. Friendly other guests who clearly appreciated all that this family run hotel/Pensione can offer. No problem with allegedly noisy staff.
Review 29:Pensione Bencista is impressive from the first sight as you drive up. That is if you like old school elegance and hospitality. Nothing new and pretentious about the place but a ton of class. Great staff, great food, great old German grand piano in the parlor open to guests, and of course a view of Florence that is fabulous. It's an easy drive to the city or a quick bus ride. Not many hotels I would go back to but this one is defiantly on the list!
Review 30:Absolutely nothing. I love everything, very, very, very much!
Review 31:• The amazingly beautiful villa and vistas. • The family that runs it. They are kind people (the kind of people I would want to have in my circle of acquaintances) and they are dedicated to their guests having a wonderful stay. • The location. This is the only way from now on that I will want to visit Florence. Perched on the hillside above the city, it is an absolute dream, at the end of the day to sit at the terrace and contemplate this gorgeous Italian landscape with the famed Florence landmarks in the distance. • The fact that each room has double doors for soundproofing AND full screens on the windows. • The history of the place that gives it incredible charm and uniqueness. • I am from Malibu, California and I travel a lot. I often stay in 4 star hotels, and my experience at this villa tops them all. This is my absolute favorite.
Review 32:Mosquitos! Should have turned the mosquito repellent on, was a warning as it was on the table. For the price which is competitive with nearby hotels, expected it to be a bit more upscale like fresh croissants and bread for breakfast but there's the cake everyday.
Review 33:Location is amazing plus convenience of public transport is ten minutes of an uphill climb which is good for the daily exercise. I loved the fresh fruit selection especially the figs. I would definitely stay again but probably go with a larger room.
Review 34:Loved getting up out of crowded city in just a few minutes to refined, quiet setting overlooking Florence. Gracious service in a lovely old villa.
Review 35:It's a bit hard to find & kind of dangerous walking there from the bus.
Review 36:Beautiful place, good food, relaxing atmosphere, lovely staff.
Review 37:We did not miss TV in the room, anthough some might
Review 38:A step back in time to a far more relaxed and historic experience.
Review 39:Wafer thin walls in rooms

Review 60:Leaving
Review 61:Location, views, rekindled memories of last visit 25 years ago. Good bus into Florence, Fiesole a nice little town
Review 62:Could just do with a pool!!
Review 63:The family made you feel so welcome!!
Review 64:Quiet, awesome view of Florence at night. Easy bus to city. Third time there.
Review 65:Mosquitos ! Officious bus inspectors
Review 66:Extremely gracious family run Pensione , all staff polite , well run .Quiet , fabulous location, good bus route into Florence
Review 67:Breakfast a little basic but served its purpose.
Review 68:Such a wonderful place to relax with nature and the amazing views. The family were extremely helpful (even when we arrived to check-in at 00:30 after midnight).
Review 69:The tub was ample but the handheld shower head was not ideal.
Review 70:Staying out of the city was quiet and relaxing yet getting down into Florence by bus was easy. The view looking down on the city from our window was fantastic. Meals at the hotel were great as well as a couple at the peaceful town of Fiesole above. This is the way to do Florence.
Review 71:Nothing to complain about
Review 72:Great away from the city the family were very friendly with home cooked Italian meals and the bus trip into the city was very pleasant what a beautiful place to stay
Review 73:The Bencista is a fabulous old villa up in the hills of Fiesole withbreathtaking views of Florence. It is a wonderful, quiet retreat fromlong days of sight-seeing. It is a short walk to the bus stop to catchthe #7 bus into town (20 min) or a €25 cab ride (recommended forluggage). We had good wi-fi in our room as well as around the building. The family that runs the Bencista is very kind and welcoming. We atedinner at the hotel every night and it was absolutely delicious.Breakfast (included in the room price) was an array of bread, cheese, meat, fruits etc. and was also very good. We stayed for 4 nights but Iwish we had stayed longer just to spend a day reading on the terraceunder the Tuscan sun. Highly recommended!
Review 74:Location, character, culture, period style authenticity, staff. View of the Countryside. Meal supplement quality. Effortless access by bus to Florence and Fiesole.
Review 75:The whole experience of staying in this beautiful place was ruined by the noise of the cleaners in the morning. Unfortunately the building is old and so you can hear a pin drop through the walls. The cleaners had no respect for those wanting to lie in as they talked too loud and bashed about from 7.30am onwards and even knocked on our door three times. This was unacceptable....a great shame.
Review 76:Beautiful setting. Not over priced, Helpful friendly family
Review 77:Minor thing - hard bed
Review 78:A personal, pittoresque, old style hotel with a countryside, relaxed charm. Magnificent view, we felt very welcome and "at home"
Review 79:There were no price lists for dinner or drinks publicly available so you felt uncomfortable buying a lot of drinks etc. Once you find out the prices it's extremely reasonable.
Review 80:Fantastic service with very accommodating staff. Great views whilst having great value & good quality meals. Nothing was a problem.
Review 81:Buses are ok, they come every 20 min or so but if you are on a short stay and don't want to have a 20 min bus ride, then that could be a problem. This is well suited for anyone coming with a car as they have lots of parking space and I think it's free.
Review 82:It is so quiet at night and cooler than Florence. Dinner on the terrazza overlooking Florence. The antique everything. What better than a stay in a Medici Villa for a visit to Florence! You can buy bus tickets right there and hike up to the road to catch a bus. Nice 20 min walk to Fiesole, or you can take the bus. Coffee on the Terrazza next to the Aurora Hotel in Fiesole is great too. There is no A/C but the large ceiling fan was sufficient. No TV, but who has time to watch tv with all the stuff to do here! Internet connection was very good in my room, so could watch tv on internet if I had wanted to.
Review 83:We liked everything!
Review 84:The staff was friendly and oh so helpful; the complimentary breakfasts were exceptional, and we ate dinner there as well: terrific. Being able to walk through the country side while being in view of all of Florence and the duomo was a real treat.
Review 85:No tissues in the room. No air conditioning but it is understandable as it is a 14th century villa
Review 86:The quaintness of the hotel. The beautiful vistas. The beautiful furniture. The ambience and the helpful staff
Review 87:I was so entranced with Pensione Bencista that I did not move from the garden during my 3 day visit. This is a wonderful home that I was privileged to be able to share for a short time. I have absolutely nothing negative to say about it and cannot wait to return. The meals were excellent and very good value and nothing was too much trouble including a lift up to the bus stop with luggage. Thanks to the Simoni family.
Review 88:WiFi often fades in and out, as is typical of older buildings. Water pressure low in shower. The hike to and from the bus to get into the city is a vertical challenge for some knees! We were advised to arrive in a cab if we had a lot of luggage--great advice!
Review 89:This transformed estate is very much of a retreat. Located above the bustle of Florence, it gives a breathtaking panoramic view. There are several different sitting rooms in which to enjoy time with other guests or time alone. Sitting outdoors is tranquil. I liked returning after a full day of being a tourist in the busy city, and having a second vacation in the contrasting style of the past in Pensione Bencista.
Review 90:there was nothing we did not like.
Review 91:the furniture, the terraces, the food, the many public rooms, the location, the gardens, the staff, the dogs, the flower arrangements, the library, the olive orchard, the art, the wine, the price, the the the everything
Review 92:Two hundred yard walk to nearest bus stop. Ideal for tourists with own car.
Review 93:Wonderful gracious family run pensione where we had stayed ten years ago.Overall quality still very high. Splendid slightly cluttered old world atmosphere. Excellent food. Very responsive service. Fabulous view over Florence.
Review 94:The fact that we'd only booked for two nights :)
Review 95:Absolutely loved it here! Stunning views, the family who run it can't do enough for you, very nice food too. Within 10 minutes you feel like you're at home. Definitely would recommend Pensione Bencista. Hope to go back there soon.
Review 96:Bathroom was small - you couldn't sit straight on the toilet - had to sit sideways! But good bath and lots of hot water. No rugs on floor - so cold on the feet in the evenings ( temp outside about 10deg C). Take slippers!
Review 97:Setting is fabulous - beautiful views from the terrace and rooms. Staff very warm, helpful and friendly. Food good quality and reasonably priced. Attractive hotel internally. Comfortable bed Clean
Review 98:Awesome view above Florence. Quiet, serene. East access to #7 bus to Downtown Firenze.
Review 99:nothing
