Reviews for Hotel Umbra
Review 1:The breakfast had no fresh fruit, and if you were not there early all of the scrambled eggs were gone. We observed people being disappointed with the empty scrambled egg tray and not being refilled.
Review 2:Great location and the hotel was like staying in a home. Well decorated
Review 3:The hotel is dated and the bathroom needs a renovation.
Review 4:We had a superior room with a magnificant vue, and also very quiet. Very good breakfast with many choises. The location in the heart of town is perfect.
Review 5:Great boutique hotel in center of Assisi just off the main square in renovated old building. We had a quiet spacious room with great view and enjoyed the ample breakfast, even eggs, which is unusual for Italy!
Review 6:Paola and Marco were very helpful and gave us a warm welcome to the hotel and Assisi. The room was spotless; the bathroom appeared to have been updated recently. The hotel is also in an excellent central location and also has a lovely outside area to sit and relax. Marco gave us a recommendation to a travel agent who helped book the next leg of our trip and he also gave us a great restaurant recommendation. I can't say enough good things about Hotel Umbra.
Review 7:Air conditioning was anemic. We felt crowded out by the noise of the Rick Steves' group! Very overwhelming and significantly detracted from our visit!!
Review 8:Staff very helpful and location good for walking.
Review 9:It would have helped enormously to be advised of where to park before arriving in the city. Wi fi was weak.
Review 10:Perfect location, friendly staff, wonderful room, great breakfast.
Review 11:The exit from the front door is a narrow alley to the piazza. One cannot avoid walking through extensive pigeon feces each ingress and egress. Pigeons should be moved or street cleaned regularly.
Review 12:Location, room, breakfast and all service were excellent.
Review 13:All furnishings and accessories were dated. Nothing other than the antique dressers had even replaced since 1960's. Tub only had a plastic telephone shower. Flooring was old carpet tiles Mattress and pillows were hard. We were in their best room. The owners are taking advantage of tourists because of location
Review 14:Location and view
Review 15:The delightful famy who own and run the hotel it makes a difference when it's personal. Nothing was a trouble to them forever helpful to us we lived Assisi and take with us the best experience shared with nice people Hotel spotlessly clean and central to everything Malta Bene Grazzie for our visit
Review 16:The staff is wonderful and the location could not be better. It is a historic building with amazing views of Assisi from various terraces. Breakfast is served each morning in a lovely dining room. Great value!
Review 17:We liked everything.....two nights was not enough.
Review 18:Hotel Umbra is in the very heart of the old town and easy walking distance to everything both uphill and downhill. We had room 34 which had beautiful views over the terracotta rooftops for miles into the distance. The room was large, very tastefully furnished with a comfy bed and a good bathroom with plenty of hot water.
Review 19:The Wi-fi didn't work well. The bed and pillows were hard, and linens were very stiff.
Review 20:The location, and the friendliness of the staff, particularly the ladies at the desk. Beautiful garden oasis in the center of Assisi.
Review 21:The location was perfect for visiting Assisi, the staff could not have been more helpful, and the comfort and view from the room balcony was wonderful.
Review 22:Located in middle of town, lots of beautiful sitting areas on property. Staff friendly and accommodating. Would recommend staying here. Had 3 rooms, views were great
Review 23:Can't think of any negative points whatsoever.
Review 24:Great location in centre of historic Assisi. Delicious breakfast. Beautiful views and truly hospitable staff.
Review 25:We love the location of Hotel Umbra and the rooms with a balcony and view of the valley. We come back again and again. Our room was large, with beautiful antique furniture and wonderful, marble bathroom and great wifi. Thank you for another wonderful time!!!
Review 26:for such a lovely location in the heart of Assisi The bed was just too hard and therefore with poor sleep detracted from our stay. Also the breakfast was disappointing. The room was cold and hot water for making tea coming from the automatic coffee machine always tastes of coffee ....not what tea drinkers want. We have found this in many other establishments in Italy. We know about the coffee culture but coffee from these machines does not taste great either and was lukewarm!
Review 27:The location was superb and the staff were extremely helpful with maps and guidance getting us through narrow one way streets on a very wet evening. they also made phone calls for Mass times and restaurant bookings for us.
Review 28:Staff were so friendly and helpful. Could leave luggage and travel around the city. Views were great. Right off main plaza but rooms were quiet. Many patios to sit and relax on. Would stay there again if I visited Assisi.
Review 29:Location is excellent just off the main square and the hotel is a charming genteel sort of place which is family run. The breakfast is exceptionally good, the two little terraces have fabulous views but the biggest asset of this hotel is surely the friendliness and helpfulness of all the staff. A little gem of a place where you will feel very welcome. The main square is busy but once you enter the hotel peace prevails! Delightful little place and highly recommend.
Review 30:Marco greeted us at the reception, gave us map and told us places to visit, opening hours, directions and even told the distance, to walk or take bus, etc. Even told us there's a medieval carnival right at the square, where this hotel is situated, and what to expect. Room is cosy, service is great. Breakfast is great.
Review 31:Boiler seems to need pre-run for a few mins. before your using shower. But indeed it worked after pre-run and didn't make our impression about this beautiful hotel negative.
Review 32:Very near the main square of Assisi old town, namely near to all sightseeing places (at maximum 10mins). Clean room and silent atmosphere. All staff are very helpful and kind.
Review 33:Parking/loading/unloading was difficult, especially when city square was closed for celebrations. Not easy to find hotel.
Review 34:Quiet haven off central square
Review 35:We rented the apartment with kitchen facilities and found it very comfortable. However, on three nights of our 4 nights stay we were awakened by townspeople sitting on the steps of our apartment and talking, drinking and smoking. We had to get out of bed and ask them to leave. It would help if the hotel would indicate that this is a guest residence and put a quiet sign on the door.
Review 36:The town is lovely and very peaceful. We stayed at this hotel for Holy Week and enjoyed the location which is in the middle of town. the owners are most helpful and accommodating.
Review 37:The room was very comfortable and quiet, the staff were friendly and helpful and the breakfast was good. The position in the centre of town made walking easy.
Review 38:Nothing.
Review 39:The staff at this hotel is one of the most helpful I've seen in Italy. This was our second visit to Assisi and we knew that coming in via rail it was crucial on how we went from the train station to the hotel, since Assisi is on a hillside with narrow streets. The staff conversed with us by e-mail and gave us all of the information we needed to know (cab to the front door). The location is fantastic - right out the front door to the middle of town. The rooms were nice and there is a large balcony at the end of the upstairs hall that was perfect for relaxing with a bottle of wine and enjoying the view of the valley below. This may be the first time I have ever given a "10" to a review.
Review 40:The panoramic view fr the bedroom.Excellent breakfast with good variety. The very central location - all within a stone's throw to some of the best restaurants, and reasonably priced too.
Review 41:Hard to find the entrance because it is set back down an alley. But completely safe.
Review 42:Owners/managers extremely friendly and helpful. Breakfast very good!
Review 43:It took a bit of searching to find a place in the hotel with a strong wifi signal but we did and the helpfulness of front the desk staff did not make this a true negative.
Review 44:The staff on arrival could not have been more helpful and friendly. They seemed genuinely glad we were there. It was a wonderful hotel in a delight-filled town. Perfect location off the main square.
Review 45:The staff was friendly all the time. Gave good directions and suggestions on places to eat, etc. The breakfast was very good. Attentive supervisor in the beautiful eating room. The bedrooms are big and spacious. Bathrooms big and new. furniture is antique in style. Highly recommend.
Review 46:Not the hotel's fault but an increasing problem everywhere: a noisy, foreign group, keen on vodka, kept us up on our second night, door-slamming, singing till 3am etc: please if you travel with a group, think about others, and remember that old buidlings turned into hotels in Italy tend not to have any sound-proofing.Respect is the basis of travel always.
Review 47:Staying here was like stepping back in time, family-run, a bit "old-fashioned" with a lovely, plant-filled terrace, traditional breakfast setting with linen and silverware and discrete, attentive lady waitress . fantastic position just off the main square so easy for finding restaurants in the evening. Our room had a charming balcony with view over the plain and fiery sunset!
Review 48:we were supposed to have air conditioning according to confirmation but were told it is not on anymore in October, very disappointing since it was very humid that day. Could not sleep, the beds were very bad also.
Review 49:Air quality stuffy; bedding old.
Review 50:Staff, location, ambiance excellent, especially with parking instructions; breakfast very good Italian-style. Hotel very quiet, yet central, beautiful views and balcony,
Review 51:Self-service breakfast had a good selection but all the hot food and coffee was lukewarm.
Review 52:Wonderful location, old-fashioned hospitality and charm. You feel you are living in the heart of old Assisi.
Review 53:Parking is difficult and expensive. We used the car park in the shopping centre but cost 15 Euro for the night and was a bit of a climb up steps and steep streets to hotel.
Review 54:Loved the central position of the hotel and original furnishings. Breakfast was fresh and nicely presented. Room was quiet with a lovely view and the owners were very polite and helpful. Would certainly recommend this hotel.
Review 55:It would be difficult to think of something that we did not like, everything was great.
Review 56:It was centrally located to the town square. Whilst the hotel was old worldly it was family run and we were made very welcome and comfortable.
Review 57:I really enjoyed the combination of modern convenience and comfort in an authentic olde-world Italian hotel offering an atmosphere of peace and culture.
Review 58:Breakfast could be enhanced with fresh bread and a greater variety of cheese.
Review 59:Location is excellent in the historic center. Public parking located at a short walk from the hotel. Possibility of driving into the historic center to drop-off and pick-up luggage upon arrival and departure. Beautiful view from the hotel terrace, very quiet and clean room. Family managed hotel and owners are very friendly, courteous and helpful. Hotel is very close to excellent restaurants for dinner.
Review 60:Horrible pillows - like sleeping with your head on a brick/

Review 106:There was a great view and so close to everything.
Review 107:Location was fantastic - just off the main square. . Nice old bedroom with character. Staff very helpful. We would recommend this hotel to our friends. Might even come again!
Review 108:Our only complaint were their pillows we really hard and uncomfortable otherwise all good.
Review 109:superior double room had balcony fantastic views on 3 sides. We choose for location perfect. Staff warm and friendly and helpful. Good breakfast being a non meat eater I tried to ask for eggs without meat cooked into them they did not understand. Please suggest thanks.
Review 110:The only problem with the hotel is that there is no parking and you are forced to park at a main parking garage which is located almost a half kilometer down the hill. I had to take a taxi to the parking garage when I departed the hotel. The total for the short taxi drive and the 3 overnight parking garage cost me almost $65.00.....quiet a shame! Sorry...but I think the visitors (tourists) supporting their economy are being taken advantage of!!!!!!
Review 111:This is an excellent hotel with wonderful staff, restaurant, breakfast, internet in the room and cleanliness. The hotel is located right off the main square and the room I had was very quiet!
Review 112:There was an annual 3 day event called Calendimaggio di Assisi which involved bleachers and events in the main square which effectively shut it down during the afternoon and some evenings. We had to take a very circuitous route back to our hotel. Tickets were required for the events, and it was not possible to stand outside the bleachers and watch them. It involved a medieval competition between neighborhoods complete with costumes, banners, games, parades. While it was fun to see everyone in costume, and the party atmosphere of the town was very infectious, it made it more difficult to enjoy Assisi. I would check the calendar and skip this event, unless it was my reason for coming.
Review 113:The location of the hotel was perfect. It was right off the main square. Our room was large and the bed was very comfortable with great bedding. Bathroom was also good sized with a bathtub. It is a family run business, and the mother, daughter and her husband were very helpful. Breakfasts were good with different kinds of coffee cakes as well as the usual breakfast foods. After we booked we were sent an e-mail telling us where to park. The garage was very convenient and you could get a multi-day pass with easy in and out. We did not use the pass to get into the parking garage the first time and could not get out. I ran into the daughter and her husband in the elevator and they followed me to the office to help out. We spent four nights here, and used Assisi as a base to explore the hill towns. It was magical each time we returned to see Assisi sitting on the hill as we drove up to it. We would go back to Assisi, and the Hotel Umbra would be one of the reasons to return.
Review 114:I woke up late and missed breakfast but the staff fixed me a tray of breakfast pastries, juices, yogurt, and cappuccino despite the kitchen being closed. Very hospitable and kind staff!!
