Reviews for La Locanda Del Passerotto
Review 1:This B&B is absolutely charming! The house was built in the late 1400's and is located inside a castle wall. The hosts operate a restaurant on the first floor with fabulous Italian food. I seldom write reviews about anything, but this place is special.
Review 2:Reported Hard to get to w/o car. Taxi expensive from airport. But contral bus takes you to lido ostia and 04 bus to castle stop is easy and cheap. Buy ticket in terminal one for contral.
Review 3:Location was excellent for trips to ostia antica and a nicely finished place.
Review 4:Despite our room being so hot, we enjoyed our short stay. You do need to be aware that the hotel does not accept credit cards.
Review 5:We chose this hotel because of its proximity to the airport and to the Roman ruins. Unfortunately, we didn't have satnav and on our way from the airport we managed to overshoot the turnoff and ended up driving halfway to Rome before we were able to turn back! It wasn't possible to drive right up to the hotel and we had to park in a nearby street but we were given help with our luggage (which was just as well as there was no lift). The hotel gave us a friendly welcome, and it has a good restaurant which we took advantage of. Our room was full of character, but oppressively hot and there was no air conditioning (although there is a fan), so we didn't sleep very well. We got up early the next morning and had breakfast in company with the locals before going to see the ruins, which are quite breath-taking and a mere five minutes walk away. Allow at least two hours for this.
Review 6:There was nothing I disliked because I prefer regional accommodation that reflects a place's culture rather than a modern place that, once you are inside, could be anywhere...those places are all the same the world over. Just a couple of hints: La Laconda del Passerotto doesn't take credit cards, yet there is a Bancomat ATM right opposite the front door. There isn't an air conditioner for hot days, yet the stone walls keep out the heat if you shut doors and windows in the heat of the day. There are heaters for wintery days. There was noise from a local restorante till after midnight, loud, yet the rooms are double glazed which muffles the sound. I'm a light sleeper so I used ear plugs.
Review 7:I liked the: Italian hospitality demonstrated by owners Ancient building inside castle walls Modernised apartment embedded in the fabric of the old building Having breakfast and aperitiv al fresco with the locals Enjoying meals at several local cafes Buying food and wine from the Alimentari Public transport to both Rome and the Ostia Lido Being able to walk max 500m to the gates of Osiia Antica Enjoying 6 hrs exploring Ostia Antica and just popping across and along the road to the B & B to rest sore feet (37degs) and then go back again for another look ( does involve 2 entry tickets, not a 24hr ticket) The very secure arrangemement for the accommodation own keys to everything including the iron front door/gate. The sound of church bells from the ancient church inside the castle walls. The fan in my room, a lifesaver...mid July! I would definitely stay there again.
Review 8:They limited breakfast to 1/2 cup of coffee and one corneto. I managed to get a bottled juice. When I asked for more coffee was told no more... Didn't like having to go up 3 sets of stairs. Room was quaint w/air from skylight, shower leak but clean.
Review 9:Location in Castle close to Ostia Antica. Had option of their Restaurant below room or others. Fruit stores, gelato and food store right there too...
Review 10:The bar/restaurant was opened especially for us to have breakfast at 0900, it was a slightly strange experience eating in a restaurant with no-one else around. The breakfast was pretty basic - croissant, cake, jam tart plus choice of coffee (capuccino) / tea. The Wi-Fi was free but only seemed to work properly near the window of the adjacent lounge room.
Review 11:Location was great - within 200m of the archeological site entrance, and within a few minutes drive of Fiumicino Airport. The B&B has its own restaurant, and there are several other restaurants and cafes very close by. Staff were friendly and helpful. On arrival at around 2:15pm we had a light lunch of a shared antipasti which was very good. Our room had en-suite bathroom (shower a bit weak!) but also an adjacent room with a single bed and chairs which could be used as a 'living room' space.
Review 12:The room was on the third level on a tiny staircase and separate from the room with luggage this was no fun.
Review 13:The staff was very friendly and welcoming even for my non italian speaking self. The place was very old school family style. Food was good and everything was pretty cheap.
Review 14:Price of taxi from Fiumicino airport is rather high, so thinking beforehand about the means of transportation is probably a good idea.
Review 15:Stayed here for one night after a long trip and received very warm welcome. Ostia Antica Scavi & train station to Roma or Lido di Ostia are easily reachable by foot. B&B has a nice restaurant with outdoor seating area located in a small piazza, it was a pleasure to have Italian breakfast there along with the locals. Surrounding streets of an old city are picturesque and give you a postcard feeling.
Review 16:Taxi from airport expensive
Review 17:Wonderful village situation
Review 18:difficult to get the hot water going!
Review 19:the location set in the old walls
Review 20:Proximity to Ostia Antica was paramount. Staff could not have been nicer or more helpful. They went out of their way to give assistance.
Review 21:I should have realized there would be no air conditioner. Also, they do not accept credit cards.
Review 22:Convenient base for a day at the Ostia excavations.
Review 23:Challenging parking. Breakfast was minimal.
Review 24:Very close to Ostia Antika. Nice restaurant.
Review 25:not applicable
Review 26:The hospitality and the restaurant
Review 27:No Air conditioning.
Review 28:Friendly staff, great food very romantic. I can't wait to return.
Review 29:Due to preseason repairs and activities, some temporary cleanliness issues in staircase and bathroom. With shutters closed even on a cool day a bit warm, open window cool, quiet, nice.
Review 30:In preseason, there is not much in Ostia Antica, but this was a perfect location. Restaurant in house, ruins across the street, medieval castle around the corner, nicely redone historic village core, super-friendly people. Even on weekend free public parking with short walking distance (entrance in pedestrian area, no drive-up). "Room" was actually more like a separate suite. Short ride to airport
Review 31:No elevator, but only one floor up, and owners carried the bags. No A/c, so it may be hot in the summer, but in May it was lovely, and the window opened for us.
Review 32:Attractive accommodation just within pedestrian only area inside castle wall. Very friendly owner, even drove us to train without charge. good restaurant. Very few rooms, ensuite bathroom. Very short walk to Ostia antica ruins. Very quite so we slept well with the window open.
Review 33:The lack of Air Conditionning, and a window that would not open. It was very hot.
Review 34:Staying in the old village, near the ruins of Ostia Antica, was great. Nice restaurant downstairs or nearby. The proximity to the Airport makes it an ideal spot for a 'pre-flight' stay.
Review 35:i loved the atmosphere of the borgo and la locanda; i liked the decor and arrangement of la locanda and the friendly people/management. personally, i couldn't manage the stairs very well, as i had had a fall and hurt myself, so the stairs were challenging.
Review 36:Right in historic section of town; Dinner was excellent Staff were extremely helpful
