Reviews for The Old Post Office Guesthouse
Review 1:-my room a bit smelly and heater didn't work properly
Review 2:-I requested a room with mountain view so i can enjoy seeing Kirkjufell from my bed room. -nice host -functional kitchen
Review 3:There was nothing to set your suitcases on, the room needs somewhere for your luggage so your not getting on your knees to get into your suitcase. As like most rooms in Iceland it is pricey.
Review 4:We had room 9 which sleeps 4 with a bathroom ensuite. This room has a private outside entrance with a parking space. The unit was comfortable and the location great.
Review 5:Its a guests house, so expect some noise if you are not the only guest. Building itself is old, but not a big deal coz it's "old post office". They should fix the bathroom door. You can only lock it with a door hook and it "pop out" a bit when there's strong wind. The town "close" early. We arrived the the town around 730, everything seems to be closed.quiet and dark.We went to Ruben, a small pub for dinner, one min walk away from the guest house. So I recommend you arrive early, maybe get sth from the supermarket and cook yourself. :)
Review 6:The room itself is nice and new. share bathroom is clean, however we are the only guests that night so we do noy need to share. Love the kitchen. Fully equipped, very clean, big and with excellent mountain view. Walking distance to supermarket. Friendly staff.
Review 7:The bathroom was little bit crowded during our stay, because there is only one shared bathroom on the 1st floor. Also the door to bathroom were quite noisy especially during the night.
Review 8:The location is very good, it's really close to mountain Kirkjufell, where you can take beautiful pictures. Also the lady at the reception is very kind and nice, she recommended us some restaurants in the village. Room is clean with good wifi, also the kitchen is well equipped for preparing own meals.
Review 9:Found all frying pans in all Icelandic accommodations were damaged. Wish all tourists would be more careful in using telflon pans.
Review 10:Very clean & comfy . Well equipped kitchen. Friendly & helpful owner,Sigridur esp. with logging into internet with unfamilar keyboard. Great waterfront view from room. Nearby waterfall , grocery, gas & restaurants. Great location for visiting West coast.
Review 11:Shared but very private bathroom facilities. Sink in our bedroom. Wonderful full kitchen with cooking privileges, so we had an excellent dinner and breakfast.
Review 12:No bad experiences.
Review 13:The staff was able to change my room when the first one had some problems with noise in the plumbing line. Very congenial about the change.
Review 14:Nothing really. Iceland doesn't have many TV channels, so the TV in our room wasn't particularly entertaining - you have to make your own entertainment.
Review 15:Great central location for the town in the beautiful Grundarfjörður bay. The kitchen was excellent with amazing views, free tea and coffee, as well as a shelf and fridge for things left by fellow travellers. We even were upgraded to an en suite room. The pizza restaurant in town was cosy and offered tasty authentic pizzas.
Review 16:This well-run guesthouse was conveniently located by the Snaefellsjokull Peninsula. The room had a beautiful view of Kirkjufell volcanic mountain. The town is very small, but with a couple of excellent restaurants.
Review 17:Would've been nice to have more than two shared showers, although we got up early and it was no problem.
Review 18:Great spot right on the main street, fantastic view of the ocean and surrounding mountains.
Review 19:Room looked like a low quality hotel chamber. It was clean, proper, good beds and all, but just did not feel homey at all.
Review 20:Perfectly placed, quite close to the gas station and convenience store, as well as the town's main diner. The kitchen was big and had a lovely view of the mountains. They had 03 toilettes and 02 separete showers, quite a good ratio for a 09 rooms guesthouse.
Review 21:Nothing.
Review 22:The staff was really helpful and friendly. We got lots of suggestions on things to do from them. The kitchen and dining area was well-equipped and spacious. The view of the Kirkjufell from the kitchen and the rooms was unforgettable.
Review 23:It doesn't have anything to do with the property but there was a very unpolite and noisy German group while we were there (they were loud until late at night, they drop beer in the fridge making our food bag sticky and smelly, they smoked in the bathroom, they overfried something at breakfast making all guests' clothes stinky... This is just a note so that the owners know.
Review 24:The young girl at the reception was very nice an helpful. She gave us very useful tips on what to see and do in the surroundings. The shared kitchen was very well equipped with everything one might need (even shared food!). The bathrooms and showers where very well equipped as well. A plus goes to the free use of the laundry (washer+dryer) that after a 12-day journey was really a necessity for us. Last but not least: the view was amazing!
Review 25:Amazing location and view of Kirkjufell. Friendly staff. Good beds and nice shower. Close to supermarket and bus station. Great kitchen facilities. Good information about excursions and hiking trails.
Review 26:Staff was only there when I arrived, which was important because I did not realize my whale-watching tour was another 20 minute drive to the east.
Review 27:Convenient, price ok
Review 28:The best guesthouse we stayed in after travelling the whole ring road, amazing location and lovely facilities. The girl that met us in reception gave us a very detailed description on the area and where to go, would definatly return!
Review 29:We had a view of Kirkjufell mountain from our window - beautiful! Warm radiators to dry all of our gear that had gotten damp on our drizzly hikes. This was pretty much just a place to lay our heads, the receptionist told us we were the last to check in, and we left quite early to go catch the ferry at Stykkisholmur, but it was a good experience.
Review 30:Nothing
Review 31:The room was clean and tidy, with a very confortable bed. The cooking and bathroom facilties are excellent. The owners are very friendly and a good source of information for sightseeing in the area. The free coffee was nice as well.
Review 32:The official address seems to be on a side street -- maybe it's the host's address? -- so initially I couldn't find the bldg. Anyway, the guesthouse is on the main drag.
Review 33:Well-equipped kitchen with designated fridge and shelf for guests leaving food for others -- great idea!
Review 34:If stairs a significant problem maybe avoid this accommodation as whether you stay up stairs or down stairs there is still stairs to navigate. Having said that, i have difficulty with stairs and i managed.
Review 35:Everything was fresh and the shared kitchen was well appointed and clean. The people were lovely and did their best to help and accommodate our requirements.
Review 36:a little bit crowded around shower/bathroom in the morning. One more shower would resolve the problem
Review 37:we like absolutely everything. wonderfull kitchen. the staff with very good explanations where to go and what to do.nice room.
Review 38:We can actually not find any bad to write about this stay.
Review 39:Well, The Old Postoffice are located in the center of the fishing village Grundarfjordur, 50 meter from the local pub and 100 meter to the supermarket if you will make your own dinner. Fantastic view from the room window and you see the sun goes down in the atlantic sea in thye middle of the night. Nice and helpful staf, a full-loaded kitchen with all equipment you need to cook your own dinner. You got Whale safaris and fishing tours around the corner A cheap and nice stay and we come back next year.
Review 40:There were some loud guests after hours. One of the shades was broken, so the room was very bright when we were trying to sleep
Review 41:Place was very clean, and the girl at the front desk was extremely friendly and helpful
Review 42:Nothing bad to say
Review 43:Hostess very helpful keen to tell you all about the area room was very comfortable and awesome view of kikjufell mountain and the fjord so accommodating as we decided to stay an extra night
Review 44:It was all amazing.
Review 45:The guesthouse was very clean, well decorated and spacious. The kitchen was well equipped. The owner is unbelievably helpful and friendly. Cannot recommend enough.
Review 46:none!
Review 47:the staff here is really helpful. i was not really prepare for Iceland weather, the staff offer me a raincoat and even pickup back and forth from kirkjufell on rainy day which is really impressed me! place is cozy with clean kitchen and bathroom. overall, i really love with this place.
Review 48:Nothing at all.
Review 49:The location of the hotel is amazing. The room we had a view of the sea and Mt. Kirkjufell next to it. It was the best place we stayed at in Iceland. The hotel had well stocked common kitchen (for utensils and dishes). The cleanliness was good.
Review 50:The owners are absolutely lovely. A storm swept in whilst we were staying with them but driving around the peninsula and they emailed to ask if we were ok and warn us. We had in fact gotten stuck on the other side of the peninsula and they coorinated our rescue and helped arrange for a temporary hotel for the night. They were informative about things to do, incredibly kind and have put loads of thought into making communal areas like the kitchen and dining room (which has everything you could need and a stunning view with binoculars over the bay). Rooms were clean and friendly.
Review 51:There is only one bathroom per floor, which would be too few if the rooms are all booked.
Review 52:Great view of Kirkjufell from the kitchen. (From this side, though, the mountain top is flat rather than pointy like what you often see in photos.) Big kitchen with a fridge, a microwave, a stove and an oven. Ok bathroom. Also there is a sink in the bedroom.
Review 53:It was very nice guesthouse on our way. We asked a room with view on kirkmountain and we got it! Our room looked very stylish - nice modern furniture, smell of wood. Room was not big but it's not a porblem for us (but the bed was very big :)). Kitchen equiped with everything that you can need to cook any dish. And you can have your morning cup of coffee with view on Kirkjufell :) Food supermarket is 3 min by walk. Strongly reccomend this place to stay!
Review 54:Wonderful hosts, large kitchen with everything. Easy parking, close to the magical Kirkjufell Mountain. Stayed here many times and wouldn't stay anywhere else.
Review 55:We only spend a night in this lovely town but even though it is a very small town it is located right next to the mountains and the famous Kirkjufell mount, which is really beautiful. The staff was very helpful and gave us a lot of tips about the places where we could go in the peninsula. We could use the kitchen that had all the things we needed to prepare our dinner and breakfast.
Review 56:Breakfast not included (though cooking facilities were available for guests to use)
Review 57:Top location! Friendly witty staff keen to share 'their Iceland'.
Review 58:Prices on Iceland are high, Post Office is really OK, but still not comparable to what is common in other even expensive countries.
Review 59:Ideal location - both views, very close distance to most beautiful landscapes of Snefells Peninsula. Friendly owner, easy to contact any time. Cost/place/convenience value is high.
Review 60:Town did not have much to do and places to eat were limited and expensive.
Review 61:Rooms were big and comfortable. Plenty of bathrooms and showers. Kitchen was clean and big.
Review 62:There was just one bathroom for six bedrooms in the second floor, so you often had to wait. There was an other bathroom two floors away - but also this one was often busy since there were other rooms on that flor too
Review 63:Clean, sink in the room
Review 64:Everything! After 18 days travelling iceland, we just can say it's been the best place! And the man at the reception has been very helpful and enthusiastic!! Just great!!!
Review 65:- lady at the reception was very friendly and gave us some useful information about what to see and visit around Grundafjördur - good equipped (even dishwasher) and clean kitchen - nice and quiet room
Review 66:Like most negative reviews, it seemed every sound echoed throughout the hallways. If you are a light sleeper, bring earplugs.
Review 67:Facilities were clean; really nice kitchen; and the refurbished post office offered a interesting vibe.
Review 68:The hostess of the old post office is so very friendly and gives a lot of valuable advice on where to eat, what to see in the surroundings. The kitchen is very well equiped and spacious. Clean and nice rooms. tip : ask for a room with view on the Kirjufell!
Review 69:Thanks to Magnus, the manager, we discovered many great things to visit in Snaefellnes peninsula that weren't even mentioned on our guide. The room was comfortable and the kitchen big.
Review 70:No breakfast included in the price. Bathrooms however clean require renovation as soon as possible.
Review 71:Nicely located in the centre of small town of Grundarfjörður, the guesthouse can be a good place to stay while travelling through Snæfellsnes Peninsula. Some rooms with very nice view on the sea and Kirkjufell Mountain.
Review 72:Not enough showers that worked properly. One in the upstairs bathroom was not a shower nor a bath...
Review 73:Location is great, with lovely views. kitchen excellent and very clean.
Review 74:Shared facilities but I guess we cannot expect everything with the price.
