Reviews for Grundarfjordur Guesthouse and Apartments

Review 1:The reception staff was really friendly and welcoming. It was a really good check-in experience. The room was basic but clean. The communal kitchen was well-equipped. It would be great if each room had a hairdryer and electric kettle.

Review 2:No vent in the kitchen and the shower had no partition. Entire toilet gets wet during your shower.

Review 3:As we checked in late, finding the apartment was like a treasure hunt (which we actually enjoyed!). Beds were comfortable and apartment is spacious.

Review 4:not a all

Review 5:Hostel is really nice, reception is very friendly and kind very helpful due to weather condition he very inform us and try to help in every possibility way.

Review 6:Only bad thing I have to say is that the shower drain was a bit clogged which made the water drain slowly....that's all though.

Review 7:Very comfy bed, good heating, nice hot shower, beautiful view, enough space for 2 people and all our luggage. WiFi worked well in our room. Kitchen was well equipped. Front desk was very friendly and efficient.

Review 8:Far away from reception, so if you don't have a car it could be a problem

Review 9:Located right next to one of the best restaurants we ate in in Iceland. Really comfy beds En-suite

Review 10:- don't follow the google map and directly drive to the apartment for your first visit, you have to go to the reception which located in another place. - staying in the newly painted room.

Review 11:You need to keep a good look out for the sign for it, it's on the left, not too noticeable. In the dark I wouldn't have found it. Only other negative was we each got locked in the bathrom. Haha. Seems the lock is a little messed up.

Review 12:Spotless clean little cabins with covered porches overlooking sheep on the hillside, cozy beds. We loved it. It was the farthest I felt I could drive in one day from the airport, so we could wake up the next day and drive to Jokulsarlon. (which was an amazing highlight of our trip!) Not a whole lot town wise. But a great drive there.

Review 13:Only single beds. I believe every apartment type house should have a double or full bed.

Review 14:Camille was very hospitable, and accomadating with my needs and requests.

Review 15:No heater there, I found temperature dial. but I can find where heater is and the room also cold even if I try to adjust to warmer at temperature dial. while we there it's about 3-9C out side(october), so its OK to use only blanket without heater.

Review 16:very friendly staff nice view with mountain and sea view full equipped kitchen

Review 17:No frills, but very clean and full kitchen and fridge made it great!

Review 18:We had our own bathroom and shower and a beautiful view of Kirkjufell. The common area of the guesthouse had a panoramic view of the mountain and the ocean (as long as you don't look down to the parking lot :)

Review 19:The room walls were paper thin, we heard every person who walked in the door (and they were coming and going all night long)-it was extremely aggravating.

Review 20:Clean, tidy and recently renovated. Roomy (there were 4 of us and all comfortable). Front desk staff extremely pleasant and helpful. We stayed at the wharf location.

Review 21:Great location in a cute town. The rooms are basic but clean, and it's nice to have access to a communal kitchen. We traveled as two couples, and it was great to have private rooms but a shared common space.

Review 22:Only thing to note is that they ask that you take your shoes off and leave them in the lobby, which was hard on my feet since I have orthodics to walk with.

Review 23:I liked the private bathroom and the view from the room (of the mountain). Very easy checkin and secure building.

Review 24:no character, felt like you were on industrial estate

Review 25:new looking accommodation, very clean and comfortable, basic, had a 'hostel' feel to it (but private room and bathroom), good view

Review 26:Could have used some more towels, especially since came in and changed the kitchen towels! In the apartment there was very little counter space to do anything for cooking.

Review 27:The wifi didn't reach our room which was at the end of the corridor so had to go to the kitchen area.

Review 28:Amazing views from the apartment we had, large and spacious kitchen and seating area. We got a ensuite family room which worked out well for us.

Review 29:You'll not live the house on the pic but the green house cross the road. Trust ur Google map! Parking is very far, near the hostel! It was a nightmare especially we arrived at a storm night! Staff was anxious to leave and not that helpful

Review 30:with kitchen Clean

Review 31:Very well equipped room to make our stay comfortable - Towels, ample shelves and wardrobes, bath mats etc. that we felt we lacking in our other stays. Fast WIFI. Great view of mountain. Common kitchen was large and had everything we needed. Lots of space in fridges.

Review 32:1) Room size - our double room was very small. It was almost impossible for two people to fit in there with their luggage. 2) No toiletries were provided. 3) No tea/coffee provided in the kitchen. 4) No TV in the room. 5) Everyone had to leave their shoes downstairs by the entrance - this was clearly a measure by the owners to reduce the necessity of cleaning. 6) Room was not cleaned during our stay. 7) Not great value for money.

Review 33:1) Location - right in the heart of Grundarfjordur. 2) Free WiFi - fast connection. 3) Free parking on site. 4) Fully equipped kitchen to use for everyone. 5) Private bathroom. 6) Room window facing the Kirkjufell mountain.

Review 34:- Shower curtain could use replacement and water leaked on the floors - Apt smelled of tacos/cooking from previous guests - No shampoo (we brought our own so that wasn't an issue but may be for other guests)

Review 35:- Right next to newly opened Bjargarsteinn (award winning chef owners for top restos in Stykkisholmur) - best lamb we had on our trip - Apartments are in a building right by the water, some with views of Kirkjufell - Very clean and comfortable beds in cozy rooms - Basic interiors - feels like a college apartment but decently stocked

Review 36:Listing is misleading. This is a youth hostel. Main photo of red building is the reception building (our room was in grey building at 64°55'39.0"N 23°15'40.1"W). Thin walls: you can hear snoring and bathroom next door. Includes noisy kitchen where people hang out and kids roam the hallways in the evening and early morning. Smoke alarm seems to be triggered by toasters...

Review 37:Clean, small room. Nice view of Kirkjufell.

Review 38:- The cooker was broken and the host put two portable cookers instead. They were not working either. We could hardly boil water. It meaned for us that the cooking facility was out of order and we have to forget about cooking by ourselves. - The bathroom is very small and with toilet and shower together. The shower curtain does very little thing. That means for example after one got out of shower, the bathroom cannot be used for another couple of hours until the toilet and floor is dry again. - Really quite expensive for such kind of apartment.

Review 39:- Location is great, the kirkjufell mountain is just in front of the building. (However, I guess it is hard to find a building in Grundarfjordur where you cannot see this mountain) - The apartment is quite clean - Free Wifi

Review 40:Leaf your shoes at the door downstairs. I know it is common in Iceland but when you are unpacking or packing is a bit of a nuisance. Do not expect any kind of luxury. We did not have WiFi reception at our room.

Review 41:Good place for a short stay (one day). We booked what was available: a single room with three bunk beds that fit six. For what is is supposed to be - a place for the night - it is suitable.

Review 42:We were lucky with a room to the waterfront ... some other rooms might have been a bit noisy due to a nearby storage building and associated truck traffic.

Review 43:Nice and clean rooms, easy to find and easy check-in/check-out. Friendly staff. Private Bathroom.

Review 44:The place is not what appears on the site when booking it. It's in a different place and different building 5 min drive away. Nothing bad about this but pretty deceiving from what is being sold

Review 45:Close to the sea

Review 46:felt like a hostel, price was high for this experience no staff in the building. checkin is at the other end of town. tiny bed, smelly bathroom

Review 47:very nice location with incredible views at Kirkjufell and the fjord from the room.

Review 48:We arrived at 8pm and there was no one at the reception, our key was left in a safe which we were given the password to open. In it were further instructions which were not clear, as the room would be in a different building, a few streets away from the place listed here. After a long drive, it was really tiring to have to hunt for the room, with no further assistance provided.

Review 49:The kitchen has sufficient facilities

Review 50:Spotty wifi upstairs

Review 51:Lovely view out our window of the ocean and Kirkjufell. Be sure to call/email if you're arriving after check in hours so you can get instructions about how to get keys to your room.

Review 52:The kitchen wasn't as clean as it should have been (dirty dishes in the drawers, dirty kitchen table), but the rest of the apartment(beds, bathroom, floor) was clean. We would have preferred a double bed or at least an option of pushing the twin beds together.

Review 53:The location was great, right on the water and across from Kirkjufell. Easy walking to everything in town. The apartment was very spacious. Easy parking. Convenient and friendly check-in/out.

Review 54:Wi-fi only available for us in the common room (our room was at the end of the building).

Review 55:My wife and I and our two 18 year old sons found the accommodations very clean and comfortable. The room is very basic, really like a large dorm room, but within walking distance to town. Clean bathroom and large common room with fridge, plenty of seating. The building is located at the edge of an industrial area in town, but we had a beautiful view of the water and harbor, and was really very quiet.

Review 56:Kitchen was used intensively. Had to wait a bit, but it wasn't t too bad.

Review 57:There are 2 different buildings. We had a family room in the building at the seafront: beautiful view in kitchen/dining room. The badroom was private, not shared, which was a pleasant surprise.

Review 58:The building is just a simple rectangular metal building, built recently for the very functional purpose to rent to many travelers. Lack of local / traditional charm.

Review 59:Very clean, comfortable, good standards. Nice view.

Review 60:Upon arrival we received a free upgrade to a larger apartment, which had a useful kitchenette. Receptionist was very friendly and helpful. Good value.

Review 61:sound travels in poorly constructed buildings and you heard the front door closing all night long..... from the middle of the second floor

Review 62:the room was clean and the wifi was easy

Review 63:Our 2-bedroom apartment was clean and ikea-modern, with a mini kitchen that we used to make snacks in the evening. The apartment was in a big boxy building near the water, which initially appeared less-than-charming. But it was more than made up for by the sight of the sunset over the water, right next to Kirkjufell, which we saw from right outside the building. Really spectacular.

Review 64:Well equipped, clean and cosy apartment right by the seaside, with a great view of the Kirkjufell right outside the window. 2 beds in one bedroom and a bunk bed in the living area. We stayed as a group of four and cooked our own meals, the apartment was spacious and had everything we needed including good wifi.

Review 65:There were some issues with the Wifi. Problem was solved after a few hours.

Review 66:Guest kitchen was very well equipped. Room was small but enough space to move around.

Review 67:Nothing to dislike.

Review 68:The guesthouse is in a superb spot with a unique view. Very clean , very quiet , big room , private bathroom , shared kithen with all the facilities.

Review 69:It was a great surprise to find this accommodation in one of the nicest places we've ever been. I recommend this to anyone enjoying mountains or sightseeing.

Review 70:It was wonderful to have a sofa and some shared space to relax in while still enjoying the privacy of a bedroom. The warm spacious living area gave us a great rest while it was raining and windy outside.

Review 71:floor heating was not quite warm

Review 72:This is in a great location. The first thing that greets you when you step out of the building was view of mountain and the sea.

Review 73:Central location, underfloor heating, clean, simple but adequate cooking facilities made it easy for us to keep costs down. Really convenient and really good value,

Review 74:Personel isn't very helpful Apartment is at the harbour Beds are all solo's Bunkbed is in the livingroom

Review 75:Spacious Clean No smelly water Good wifi Late check-out

Review 76:The only little thing-bad wi-fi signal in the room at the far end of the hallway

Review 77:Comfy bunk-beds, clean bathroom, well-equipped kitchen, nice relaxation area and stunning view.

Review 78:An amployee walked in on us sleeping, a couple of minutes past 11. Which I felt was really rude in, lying naked in bed. He opened the door with his keys and walked into the room to tell us to leave. So beware, because the check out time is 10:30(!) And the employees just open your room and walk in on you, even though it's only 11 on a sunday, and not on high season.

Review 79:The guesthouse is in superb place, by the sea. The common room and shared kitchen have TV, all the facilities, plenty of space for many people to seat and from its windows one can see from close the Kirkjufell mountain. Room was big enough, very clean, very quiet. I had a very pleasant stay.

Review 80:checkin at a different location not very convenient.

Review 81:nice room with shared kitchen. very well equipped and beautiful views. Convenient location to visit the peninsula

Review 82:Towels should be white, not coloured.

Review 83:The room is nicely decorated. The kitchen on the same floor is big, well equiped and has a superb view to the fjord.

Review 84:This turned out to be a very pleasant surprise. The staff were very friendly. The family room was spacious and very comfortable. The location was perfect with great views. There's nothing we didn't like about the place and would definitely go back.

Review 85:The shower pipe was blocked, what makes you somehow disappointed considering the price of the accommodation.

Review 86:The place was clean and the kitchen big. It is modern and good located.

Review 87:twin beds in the bedroom WiFi only worked if you stood by the window

Review 88:Location, location, location quiet well-appointed comfortable bright pleasant colors and decor

Review 89:Unfortunately, the apartment is located next to some industrial complex, so the surroundings of the building are not very inviting and it was sometimes a bit noisy in the morning. Although the sea is only a few meters away, you couldn't really see anything of it because of a huge wooden fence.

Review 90:We stayed in one of the apartments for 4 people: it was very comfortable, friendly, big and clean. It was nice seeing the Kirkjufell mountain outside the window. The beds were very comfortable, the kitchen equipment was quite good and the shower new and hot. All in all a very nice apartment to spend rainy days in.

Review 91:The only thing (a little problem indeed) which made me a little bit annoyed was the wifi. It is great in the structure, but since our room was very far from the source, the signal was pretty low and we had to go to the common room in order to have a good connection. Not a big deal anyway. I would suggest this accomodation to everybody.

Review 92:I had a nice impression of the receptionists (especially the polish girl who helped us to finish our RyanAir's check in and print the tickets) and of the structure. Actually the hostel has two structures: one in town, the other nearby the dock (it is in town anyway, you have to walk for a pair of minutes to reach the centre). Our room was bigger than we needed, clean and with the bathroom. Not bad for an hostel.

Review 93:Shower curtain had a gap of about 20 cm at the bottom, so the whole bathroom was wet after every shower.

Review 94:Nice new apartment, in the new house close to the seafront. Everything was there which we needed.

Review 95:Would love to have had more kitchen amenities to cook!

Review 96:The apartments that we stayed in were spacious and comfortable. Great place to stay if you have a group of travelers and you want a shared space.

Review 97:Beds are not that comfortable.

Review 98:Private bathroom, a big shared kitchen that had all you need to prepare breakfast or simple dinner. Also the view is beautiful (if you ignore the industrial area)

Review 99:Our room was located in a building close to the sea and the city centre. Staff was really helpfull, informing us about the festival en excursions. There's a big kitchen you can use.

Review 100:No napkins in the kitchen; the wifi signal in our room was patchy.

Review 101:The shared kitchen has two large refrigerators; there's plenty of space both in our bedroom and in the bathroom. Everything seemed well organized, new and clean.

Review 102:TV is too small. We asked for 2 double bedrooms and got 2 twins bed and one bed with 2 floors. In addition the shower flooding all the bath room when you take the shower. The sink is too small and when you clean your teeth you bump your head and also the water splashing outside from sink. The location of the apartments at separate location from reception.

Review 103:There is a big grill for BBQ outside. There is a big parking outside. The apartment is big 2 bedrooms. There is also a floor room heating.

Review 104:The room was clean and comfortable, and the building by the bay has a wonderful location - we got a suite with view to the snow-capped mountains and to the sun setting by the Kirkjufell - what else could I ask for?

Review 105:Wi-Fi internet was promised but during our stay it didn't work.

Review 106:We stayed in a nice room with a private bath. The kitchen and dining area is communal, which is actually pretty nice to meet and talk to people. The rooms on our side of the building had a fantastic view. But the room on the other side were overlooking a commercial parking area. Overall this was a very nice place to stay and very convenient base for exploring the beautiful area around.

Review 107:Advertising is with a nice and typical red Icelandic house, while in fact the accomadation is in a kind of officebuilding in an industial area. Wifi only in the hall, not in the room.

Review 108:Great view. Good and clean accomadation.

Review 109:- can't lock the room (I know it's Iceland, but still feels strange), - kitchen - please buy a second electric kettle, annoyingly long to boil water in the metal one.

Review 110:- location - close to N1 gas station and supermarket - friendly staff, - WiFi

Review 111:Room for four adults. One standard bed, other arrangement was bunk beds. Very uncomfortable! Also very warm in room. We were on ground floor, but had to leave window (w/o screen) open all night. Only given bath towels - no hand towels. Very small mirror and sink - hard for the ladies.

Review 112:View was very nice. Parking fine. Very clean. Very quiet.

Review 113:Early closing time for the reception

Review 114:Our room was at their secondary location. Comfortable bed, good Wi-Fi, fully equipped kitchen, views to the ocean and the surrounding mountains.

Review 115:Just so this space is not blank, the thresholds going into the bathroom and bedroom are really high with a sharp edge. A good toe stubbing for all of us. But given how great everything was, it didn't seem to hurt as much.

Review 116:Loved it! Stayed in apartment #5. Super clean. Quiet. Peaceful. Beautiful view. Spacious. Great shower. Great kitchen. Cozy living area. Just felt good.

Review 117:Real hostel feel-long corridor. Not enough communal sitting/relaxing space...result you cooped up in a small room in bad weather(maybe they should convert 1 room to a loungy area!).completely offsite from reception

Review 118:Private toilet and shower. Seafacing view from bedroom and communal area

Review 119:Bed was horrible. Difficulty in getting the few hours sleep after a long tiring day. WiFi had limitations, many people had multiple devices which hogged the WiFi. Need more routers.

Review 120:Excellent staff. The lady at reception was very good, friendly, informative and helpful. The location of the place was great, little industrial, but still great. The kitchen was nice and well equipped.

Review 121:there was an old fat smell in the apartment; loud banging of doors by cleaning ladies in the morning

Review 122:new and fully equipped apartments; rather central, but very quiet

Review 123:The buidling we stayed in does not match the picture on the web site - not nearly as attractive.

Review 124:Really good sized apartment - very spacious. Clean and comfortable.

Review 125:Rooms are in a seperate, remote place to the reception - the other side of town. High price comparing to what you get.

Review 126:Amazing view from our room - the fyord and mountains. Huge, clean kitchen

Review 127:This place was a simple find - easy to locate the office and then driving to the separate room complex near the water and harbor. Our room had an en suite bathroom and was perfect for our needs.

Review 128:Building is in industrial zone, so not so charming sorroundings but it was quiet. Shower drain was partially clogged.

Review 129:Really big and comfortable room, nicely equiped kitchen and dining room.

Review 130:The staffs are friendly and helpful, they gave us a lot of tips on where to go and eat; Clean rooms and comfortable beds

Review 131:The guesthouse is kept clean and staff were friendly and helpful. View of Kirkjufell from the room window was an added bonus!
