Reviews for Caves House Hotel
Review 1:Lack of air conditioning, room very small and the view from room was the kitchen and its fans, very noisy. Having to queue in long lines to get a drink and meal in the evening.
Review 2:Location. Breakfast staff were wonderful and that meal was yummy.
Review 3:used to be a hotel with a bar now's it's a bar with rooms upstairs annex is gone decreasing the number of rooms sad was once a wonderful hotel
Review 4:Where it is
Review 5:These premises are unique to the area. This historic building oozes charm. Refurbished and renovated to provide an ambience second to none. Amazing gardens sprawl to the ocean providing a walk trail to walk off the calories consumed by wonderful cuisine from the inhouse restaurant & Bar. Amazing views from the communal balcony. We will return!
Review 6:The hotel has big events several nights a week in summer, and there are hundreds of people on the property and lots of noise. In addition, on the first night our neighbors had a loud party on our shared balcony complete with stereo speakers blaring. There is no AC, and you have to open the French doors, so we got to listen to a dozen or so loud drunks for a few hours. The staff talked to them the next day, and they moved down to the tables on the terrace below at night, but at least left the music in the room.
Review 7:Staff was friendly and helpful, and went the extra mile to make sure we had a good stay.
Review 8:That my window looked over the fans above the kitchen, so no view.
Review 9:The bed was very comfortable and I loved the crisp white linen. The hotel has character and a feeling of old time luxury. Loved it.
Review 10:There were no dvd's for hire. Dinner options (food menu) were not always good.
Review 11:Beautiful period features and gardens. Dining options - inside or outside (or in-between).
Review 12:Nothing
Review 13:Location; ambience. Room very comfortable. Bathroom to very high standard. Good access to the Busselton and Margaret River regions - a great base
Review 14:We were given room 8a. This was awful. The bathroom looked like something from a sixties sport change room all open with a concrete floor. The windows backed onto the very noisy air conditioner plants and the windows could not be opened. At reception we were told there were no other rooms available and yes they agreed it was their worst room. However they were good enough to give us a refund and phone through to the hotel next door (Seashells Yallingup) and reserve a room for us there. BTW the Seashells was excellent - clean modern and spacious.
Review 15:We came over to the restaurant and the food we ordered was very nice. We were also encouraged by staff to sit on the terrace and enjoy the music from the live performance inside.
Review 16:Room was a little tight but bathroom was massive (almost the same size). Toilet door could be a little more discreet
Review 17:Good location, nice gardens and in built pub
Review 18:Shower access was very difficult for my partner with her knee problems.
Review 19:All requests were accommodated and the options at breakfast were well prepared.
Review 20:No lift means more muscle work needed to bring our huge suitcases up.
Review 21:Delicious hot meals. A short walk to the beach. Pretty rose garden right in front of the hotel. Hotel duty manager is very friendly and upgraded our rooms during the stay.
Review 22:I would prefer more Australian residents to be employed rather than the travelling tourists.
Review 23:The charm of this hotel with its gleaming chrome bannisters, beautiful wooden floors, baby grande piano and beautiful gardens is fantastic. Dining room food, casual bar food and pizzas: take your pick: all great. its proximity to surf beach at Yallingup fantastic.
Review 24:Didn't like the windows at the top of my room that even though they were painted they still let the light in from the hallway.
Review 25:Love the old building and its restorations.
Review 26:Breakfast provided rather limited choice.
Review 27:Location: Short walk to beautiful Yallingup beach and easy access just off Caves Road with direct route to Margaret River. Beautiful setting: View of Indian Ocean and set in beautiful grounds.
Review 28:We were in room 7 on our second night. We weren't informed that it was above the front bar with music and loud patrons until almost midnight. It ruined our romantic night in.
Review 29:Clean beautiful rooms, friendly staff, delicious breakfast. Gorgeous grounds and location.
Review 30:Noisy room near fans in the kitchen. Next time we stay we will make sure we ask for a different room.
Review 31:Location was good. Clean room, good breakfast. Comfortable bed.
Review 32:The whole place needs a revamp- the Lodge we were in needed a bathroom and kitchen upgrade especially. The restaurant has a sound menu but middle of road to cater for all guests- 2nd night makes it predictable.
Review 33:Location of room to the caves and Caves House facilities is fantastic. Staff could not be more helpful, front desk, restaurant and cleaning staff- superb.
Review 34:Room was noisy. Constant humming from kitchen exhaust fan. It shut off around 9pm, so didn't affect our sleep
Review 35:Location was good. Good bistro food as well as entertainment
Review 36:Bedroom was very small without any desk and we had to put bags in bathroom which is same size as bedroom ( a waste ). Dining area was more pub than hotel !!
Review 37:Hotel is in a great location close to beach and with beautiful gardens.
Review 38:I paid $230 for the room and got only a corner room when for that price when I should have got a much bigger room as per the website - this was a disappointment to overpay for something - via booking.com
Review 39:We can't really mention anything negative worth mentioning.
Review 40:Beautiful old heritage hotel, overlooking fantastic gardens a short walk to the beach. We loved the atmosphere of the Art Deco dining room. Meals were great value and staff efficient and friendly.
Review 41:We thought we had booked a room with a garden view instead we found we overlooked the beer garden
Review 42:The staff were friendly and extremely helpful. The food was excellent and the staff made every effort to cater to my special needs. The garden is beautifully cared for and you are free to walk around the public rooms at Caves House to soak up the history.
Review 43:Not a thing.
Review 44:Grand old hotel with great staff. Not a five star hotel but the room was elegant and quiet considering we were above a pub. Loved everything and will return.
Review 45:The bad experience was that Booking.com had not finalised our booking and they did not know we were coming. We therefore did not end up getting the room with a balcony that we had originally booked. luckily they were able to fit us in!!
Review 46:Very noisy with bands in the beer garden. Our room was right on top of them. Maybe need double glazing on the windows.
Review 47:Good location and gardens. Good service and food.
Review 48:Chicken caesar salad was not good! Chicken was dreadful. First room we were given had a frosted window that would not open and had a wall right outside!
Review 49:Lady at reception was very helpful. We changed room and took a bigger one which had a jacuzzi bath and a fire in sitting room. Very comfortable bed.
Review 50:For the price you would at least expect to have a window that you can see out of. If was very noisy. For dinner my wife had a lamb shank which she needed a steak knife for ??? this should fall off the bone.
Review 51:Lovely gardens
Review 52:The key card to our room was faulty and had to be reconfigured nearly daily.. Reception looked after this for us without fuss.
Review 53:Comfort in own room and the other facilities. The bar worked well for us. The meals in the evening were fresh and served in a timely manner. Breakfast choices on weekdays were good and buffet on the Saturday had more choice.
Review 54:Can't really fault our stay at all. Just a beautiful location, helpful staff, speedy service. Very reasonable price for what you get, just wish we could stretch to a much longer stay!
Review 55:the first room we had was in a corner near the outside fans making noise, also the window view was a huge wall and the feeling of the room was awful. very old and definitely not worth the money we paid. they moved us to a new spa room much nicer however staff in the mornings woke us up yelling down the hall to each other, walls are paper thin - every time someone closes a door you hear it in the next room and down the hall. bed were uncomfortable. breakfast was very average, the menus in the rooms boasted pancakes, omelettes etc but when called to order they are no longer avaliable. The food we were served was mostly ok a couple of issues - burnt coffee (that i was paying extra for), toast was hard, ordered fruit bread then got bought out normal toast with jam, etc. overall regretted staying and wish we spent the money and travelled to bali would have had a great time as always.
Review 56:Receptionist Kristie was very understanding and accommodating. views and pub atmosphere was nice.
Review 57:Shower had no curtain and little pressure, yet water went everywhere Room 7a subjected to machinery noise outside of window Toaster didn't work at breakfast Hot water in urn was cold
Review 58:We enjoyed a deluxe balcony room. the bedroom is very small, with no room for luggage or even for a chair to sit on. To sit and relax, you either sit on the bed or outside on the veranda, which is beautiful, but rather chilly as we stayed there in the middle of winter.
Review 59:An amazing bathroom, the same size as the bedroom. A beautiful spa bath to enjoy, although you need to allow plenty of time for the bath to fill, as the water pressure is very slow. Also loved the choice on places to sit downstairs in front of lovely fire places.
Review 60:Lovely boutique style hotel. It has a family run feel about it which makes for a very relaxing stay. The staff are lovely. We had a small issue with a feature in our room not working and it was dealt with really well by the staff. We have stayed here before and will definitely be back stay again.
Review 61:The only dislike I had was not staying longer. A few more days would be awesome
Review 62:The place is a little gem. Great facilities and great location. The staff were so friendly and helpful. Can't wait to visit again.
Review 63:We booked a room at less than half the normal price and got what we paid for. Room 8A has windows sealed, looks into a wall and gets the noise from the kitchen exhaust fans.
Review 64:Regal old hotel with beautiful gardens and great location.
Review 65:It was very cold in the room & the heater wasn't really sufficient... would be much better in summer.
Review 66:Amazing location, love that you can't hear the live music from your room, love the decor/ theme running through the hotel & rooms. Great, deep bath.
Review 67:The sound on the TV was horrible, as if it wasn't quite tuned in properly.
Review 68:Very quaint room with awesome spa bath. Lovely patio with comfortable chairs and all sorts of birds chirping, including kookaburras.
Review 69:Room had no view (7A) and was noisy from plant. Bit cumbersome using appliances.
Review 70:Love the ambience of the 30's style art deco hotel. Big breakfast was great.Reception staff polite and attentive.Tis like a set in Agatha Christie movie.
Review 71:The room could have been a bit cleaner. Under the bed there was rubbish. The corridor was a bit too lit up over night which came into the room. Wifi didn't work.
Review 72:Good food, nice and close to the beach and not too big a hotel.
Review 73:We paid $400 for a luxury spa suite with a balcony overlooking the gardens. We got a spa room next to the kitchen and all we could hear was the exhaust from the kitchen. Breakfast was very cold - had to send it back to the kitchen to remake. No balcony. Only view was to the carpark. Had to share a fridge with the room next door - which was not a good idea as they could have stolen our drinks from the joint fridge.
Review 74:The actual hotel was tastefully decorated and clean.
Review 75:We had no hot water when it was time to go out.Called the manger and the response was sometimes when people are running spa's you have to wait 20 minutes. All we wanted was a shower. So we had to go out without a shower. We got no discount or anything.
Review 76:Very little to not like.
Review 77:The ability to walk through gardens to Yallingup, and relaxing on balcony with good book enjoying the tranquility and warm winter sun. Staff were amazing, very helpful and friendly. Map of Margaret River region provided by front desk was the best.
Review 78:The shower was just warm, not good when it was cold and wet during our stay. The room keys were a problem. The room was above the bar area and it was a bit noisy.
Review 79:The staff were mostly friendly and helpful. The gardens are beautiful. We stayed in a spa suite and it was well appointed and comfortable.
Review 80:The general comfort and location. Beautiful walks through the heritage gardens to the sea. open fires, food excellent. Close to the winery areas. So much to see and do, or sit and enjoy the sun and views to the sea from the balcony.
Review 81:We were looking forward to our stay as it had long been someting we had promised ourselves. Our first disappointment was to have been allocated what seemed to have been the worst room in the hotel in spite of it being almost empty, it being a Sunday night: no opening windows, no view and no tea making facitities in the room (they were outside in a lobby) and only one bedside table and light even though it was a double room. Breakfast was ok apart from the amounts which were too large and the Sunday evening meal in the dining room was a case of quantity over quality: a great pile of roast lamb that had been reheated and with too much of everything else.
Review 82:The building was superb and the decor was generally in keeping with its age and status as a heritage listed building.
Review 83:Everything was amazing, we can not fault it at all. It was a wonderful experience for us to get away from the city and long work days to a truly relaxing 3 day break. Cant wait to do it again & again.
Review 84:Food was average and over priced. Spa bath was not the same as that in photos
Review 85:Good location, style of hotel and grounds. Close to beach and tourist attractions
Review 86:Shared outdoor cafe/restaurent with adjacent self catering properties. Manager was unnecessarily rude to her staff for resolving our room problem with an upgrade
Review 87:We were upgraded following a problem with our room - staff dealt with issue efficiently and professionally. Nice gardens and setting A traditional style inn with modern facilities
Review 88:Was disappointed with the late check in, had to ask twice for information, then key to room wasn't left in lock box.
Review 89:Loved the atmosphere, the building and location, stunning!!
Review 90:Last orders in bar at 9.30pm and shortly after everything closed down. It may be end of season but 9.30pm is way too early!!!
Review 91:Style of hotel was lovely in beautidul grounds
Review 92:Loved location, beautiful grounds and very helpful and congenial staff. We were lucky enough to be given an upgrade and room was very clean and comfortable. Meal choices great too.
Review 93:The hotel is booked solid over weekends to cater for those same wedding receptions!
Review 94:A delightful hotel with high ceilings and lots of 'old world' charm. There is a large open air terrace (as well as a conventional dining room) and rolling lawns. It's not difficult to understand why couples choose this hotel to cater for their wedding receptions.
Review 95:We would have liked more choice of Foxtel channels you can actually watch rather than be told not available too many times.
Review 96:The rooms were sufficiently up to date and comfortable for a very enjoyable stay. The breakfast was very enjoyable and the staff attitude excellent.
Review 97:Solo traveller I wouild not recommend 7a view over kitchen vents, if staff forget to turn off can be noisy. Other than that everything else including food excellent. I would definetely stay there again but I would be sure of the room disadvantages and advantages as far as position & type.
Review 98:Grounds beautiful & peaceful. Staff obliging with any problems.
Review 99:$15 each to see the movie was a bit expensive...reduced to half price if you dine in but as a booked guest I think it could have been offered for free, especially considering the high prices for food & accommodation in the hotel & the area in general....why are the prices in Margaret River such a rip off??
Review 100:Location is central. Room was comfortable. Old pub atmosphere & deco in the reception & dining rooms. We were there for the outdoor movie night which was a nice touch. The hotel is popular with the locals. Lovely gardens & short walk to the beach.
Review 101:Should be smoke free accommodation, neighbours smoking on balcony, which made is impossible to stay sitting outside.
Review 102:Old fashioned charm of the building, spa was lovely
Review 103:No AC despite being advertised on booking.com. Inability to open windows as no fly wire to keep out insects. Meant 2 very stuffy nights.
Review 104:View from bedroom, evening meals and breakfast.
Review 105:It was very minor, but the electronic door key isn't work at least 50% of the time and always having to go back to reception to get it reconfigured.
Review 106:This is a great hotel in a fabulous location and excellent value for money. I really like the way they have continued the art deco theme with the new interior decoration, keeping it in contact of the original building. The bathroom was fabulous - always a plus and the breakfast, included in the price, was generous. I didn't use the wi-fi so although I have ticked 'good' I didn't actually try it as brought my own.
Review 107:As a WA native who has lived away for many years I had fond memories of this place and was excited to return. Sadly I quickly realised that when you book a room here that is all you get - the room. Everything else in the place is designed to cater for the drinkers in the bar. Arriving on the Sunday we went downstairs for a drink. The crowd in the bar was at least 12 people deep. When we asked one of the staff in the reception area if there was anywhere for residents to get a drink we were told there were drinks in our room. Apart from one bottle of wine this was not true so we were forced to join the queue and wait 20 minutes to be served. The information in our room had advised us to book a table for dinner which we did. Sadly this too meant lining up and waiting to order both food and drink. I can fully appreciate that in peak summer season the hotel will be busy but surely the management must recognise this also and plan accordingly. I have no problem queuing in a busy pub but when I am paying several hundred dollars a night to stay somewhere I would expect there to be an easier way to get a meal and a drink. On a separate note, the standard of housekeeping needs to be improved. I discovered several dead insects on the window ledge the first time I went to open the bathroom window. I deliberately left the shutters open the next morning in the hope they would be removed but they were still there after the room was serviced. I understand that the hotel makes the bulk of its income from the pub clientele. But, if they are going to charge premium rates for their rooms they need to offer a better level of recognition and service to their house guests.
Review 108:great location
Review 109:Being the last available room, I got one adjacent to the inner courtyard that houses the air-conditioning and plant equipment that was very noisy and ran all night
Review 110:The location, presentation, courtyard etc were all unsurpassed. The room was very clean and well presented with an excellent bed. Will happily stay here again.
Review 111:Confusion with names etc for booking.I even had an email in response to a query saying there was no booking under my name.Needed more chairs on balcony
Review 112:Amazing location.Lovely breakfast.Beautiful building with character and furnished attractively Outstanding gardens.Casual or more formal dining provided.
Review 113:We had a room without a view and next to the extraction fans which were noisy but these shut down at 11pm - 8am
Review 114:Friendly staff in a great setting with good facilities
Review 115:Love this Hotel! First time I have stayed here. Gardens are great, staff friendly & helpful. I had a trainee staff member that went out of her way to help & ask questions of the Hotel. Old world charm with a easy trail walk to the beach. Thoroughly reccomended!
Review 116:If you like peace and quiet in your room from 7am to 9pm try not to get booked in room 7a the exhaust fans from the kitchen run from before breakfast till after dinner and its a constant droning noise. It's does finish about 9.30pm however pretty noisy and not that pleasant.
Review 117:lovely, comfy, clean and well located place.
Review 118:The room had a slight damp or stale odour on one side . It was a little unpleasant. Did report this on check out ...there was no real apology for it just that they would report it to housekeeping! !!
Review 119:I liked that the reception staff on arrival were very efficient and helpful. They assisted in changing our room as the original room was above all the main extractor fans for the kitchen. The 1930's decor was gorgeous and well maintained.
Review 120:The bar food was poor quality and poor value.
Review 121:Free up grade to a suite by very pleasant receptionist Kirsty who showed us to our suite. The artdeco style of the hotel has been retained and it is charming. Lovely well maintained grounds.
Review 122:I didn't like the size of the bedroom compared to the bathroom however it was comfortable enough to snuggle in.
Review 123:I liked the fact the bed was so comfortable and the bathroom with spa was really impressive
Review 124:Lovely location, huge terraced gardens. Beautiful old building, it felt like being in an Hercule Poirot story. King spa suite spacious and comfortable. The restaurant food was excellent. We stayed midweek, off-season, not school holidays, so nice and peaceful.
Review 125:The safe in our room did not work, and was not fixed during our stay. However, the staff did secure our valuables in the hotel safe.
Review 126:The authentic restoration of the hotel, which is a jewel set in magnificently maintained gardens. Another big plus was the friendly and obliging staff.
Review 127:Could have told us about needing to book for a fireside table. Hauling cases up stairs. Have to reach through shower water while it is still too hot or cold, to adjust. No woman friendly shower hose.
Review 128:Lovely heritage building, nicely refurbished.
Review 129:Though the room was quite big it offered only one chair and small desk. Worst was the kitchen ventilation system just outside the window which caused a lot of noise. It was switched off after 11 pm so we could still get a good night's sleep. For this reason room was very cheap, but we didn't know about the noise when we booked.
Review 130:Beautiful setting, lovely walk to beach and cave through manicured gardens, well kept old-style hotel. A short 7 km drive to Dunsborough offers alternative restaurants and cafes.
Review 131:Beautiful surroundings, gorgeous room with big bathtub and jacuzzi, lovely clean hotel, great pub, nice atmosphere, good TV, comfy beds, electric blankets, electric radiator, nicely furnished, close to beach
Review 132:Leaving
Review 133:Great staff good food the walk down to the beach through the magnificent gardens and back was fantastic Highly recommend a nice cold drink in the beer garden and budget price
Review 134:Absolutely beautiful location. Caves House is gorgeous. Very comfortable rooms. Old but very clean and well presented. Loved the spa. Beautiful walk through the garden down to the beach. Dinner in the restaurant was lovely.
Review 135:Great place to stay, top location next to the fabulous Yallingup beach. Beautiful gardens and it's a pub to!! What more could you want! We had dinner one night and it was excellent! Couldn't fault the place.
