Reviews for Hotel Framnes
Review 1:unfortunately the restaurant was not open when we were there (january 2016)
Review 2:Nice hotel easy to find, with friendly staff. Room with a beautiful view on the Sea and Kirkjufell. Good breakfast
Review 3:The hotel interior could maybe do with a spruce up, but it has a certain charm!
Review 4:We saw the northern lights from the hot tub outside. Harpa, the lady working there brought us beer while we watched.
Review 5:Staff not that welcoming on arrival, just given key to room. Had to ask about breakfast timings, facilities etc. Breakfast quite basic. Hotel had a general hostel feel about it.
Review 6:Bedrooms basic but comfortable, great view of the sea and mountains. Bed had a memory foam mattress and was so comfortable I didn't want to get up. Great location for whale watching and to start your journey around the national park.
Review 7:The single twin bed room was very small. The room was clean, but almost no room at all. Had to keep suitcase of floor and step around when walking out of room or going to bathroom. Bathroom was cramped. Not sure what their other sized rooms are like, but I would not go again if this was the size room I was given.
Review 8:Nice location. Friendly helpful staff. Good breakfast. Clean.
Review 9:The room heater was not on when we arrived so took a while to make the room comfortable.
Review 10:Staff were friendly and the service excellent. Room & hotel were clean.
Review 11:The hotel was very clean and the room was very comfortable, the staff were very friendly and we got a call to let us know when the 'Northen Lights' had arrived. There was also coffee making facilities :)
Review 12:The room was quite small, as was the bathroom. There is no elevator and all rooms are 1-3 floors up, so be prepared to haul your luggage up.
Review 13:Pleasant enough, and probably the best and largest hotel in Grunderfjord. Very nice breakfast. The restaurant was good.
Review 14:We left the window open overnight and there was a constant humming sound coming from the building next door.
Review 15:New accommodations but not in the main hotel, down the street a 100m Comfortable room and en suite bathroom Had dinner in the dining room and it was quite nice Breakfast was also good selection of items including homemade muffins and breads.
Review 16:Our room looked out mostly into the parking lot and an industrial looking area.
Review 17:Friendly and helpful staff typical of many places in Iceland, clean and spacious room, and good breakfast. The hotel has a restaurant onsite and a cafe that has soup and pizza nearby. There's also a sauna which my friend thought was too hot.
Review 18:We stayed on the top floor and learned quickly to keep an eye out for the sloping ceilings so we didn't bang our heads too often. But very large and comfortable rooms.
Review 19:A delightful place to stay for a night; excellent facilities and good location for driving in and out.
Review 20:Room was comfortable, restaurant was nice and the staff were really good, letting us check in several hours early so we didn't have to wait around (the weather was horrendous so we couldn't go explore).
Review 21:The doors to rooms have issues. The locks turn in the opposite direction anticipated, which seems to have been difficult for people. They are loud to boot and the walls are paper thin. U can hear everything ur neighbors do.
Review 22:The staff was professional. They wake u for the aurora. The breakfast was very, very good.
Review 23:No elevator!!! but we opted for an upper storey room when we made the reservation..
Review 24:A romantic, old style hotel. Clean, comfortable, spacious room. Very friendly staff. Generous breakfast.
Review 25:My room had bad wifi connection had to be outside my room most times. The hottub was nice but water looked cloudy with some flies floating. Probably the filter had a problem as in general it looked very well looked after. No means to say its bad quality here. I could have had bad luck.
Review 26:Nice views and location to watch northern lights, central in Snæfellsnes.
Review 27:I think this is for all of Iceland: the prices at the restaurants are so expensive.
Review 28:The staff was so kind and helpful. They have a hot tub, sauna and restaurant. The breakfast buffet was great. It's a nice little town in a great location.
Review 29:The view from the top floor comes at a cost ... 3 floors of steep stairs.
Review 30:The view over the water from the top floor was magic! (Thanks for moving us.)
Review 31:We stayed in a ground floor annexe room(508)which was much larger than the doubles in the main hotel and had a settee and armchairs-excellent accommodation. Good food is available in the Laki restaurant in the same building. A good breakfast is served in the hotel dining room a minutes walk away.
Review 32:The hotel marketed itself as quite upmarket and luxurious, but we were disappointed to find it very dated and not even very clean (we saw 3 rooms and they all smelled slightly mouldy). The hotel sorely needs a refurb. These are exhorbitant prices for an old motel. Worst hotel in an 11-day tour around Iceland.
Review 33:The staff tries very hard to be attentive and accommodating.
Review 34:Nothing comes to mind. My stay was for four nights and all went well.
Review 35:Hotel location convenient for visiting various locations (within an hours drive). Staff friendly and sorted out a booking issue quickly and to my satisfaction.
Review 36:Location was nice, although yhete are actually two hotel buildings. I thought we were booking the one advertised in the photo with potentially a water view. When we chrcked in, we were told our room was in the other building hair across the street. Great location near mountain.
Review 37:Very little. There's no lift if you're on the second floor with heavy luggage.
Review 38:Good location. Very friendly staff. Free access to hot tub and sauna. Good buffet breakfast and then excellent, reasonably priced evening meals. Drying room for when we got soaked!
Review 39:The room was obviously prepared in a rush despite the hotel being nowhere near full as there were glasses half used and lots of dust left in our room when we arrived
Review 40:The staff were extremely helpful and even checked the weather along our route when we checked out during a storm. The breakfast muffins were heavenly!
Review 41:We were placed in the new annex a block off the water w lovely rooms with no water view, whereas I had chosen the hotel for its waterside location. Next time I would ask for water views.
Review 42:Loved the town and hotel was in good location in town for walkabouts. Great views in town, fantastic bird population, excellent restaurant food in hotel , and good horseback riding in the hills nearby.
Review 43:The room was in a separate building about 50 meters away from the rest of the hotel. But that wasn't too much of an inconvenience. The only other downside was the location. Aside from a great view of Kirkjufell, Grundarfjörður doesn't have much else to offer. But if you have your own wheels, Stykkishólmur is only about 35 minutes away and has plenty of great dining options.
Review 44:The staff was extremely kind and helpful. They went way out of their way to help us book a horse back riding excursion on the other side of the peninsula. This was a last minute booking and we were very happy to find that it had everything that we were looking for, comfortable double bed with a private bathroom in the room and reliable WiFi connection in the room.
Review 45:They give me a room not in the main building, but 200mt away, and IT WAS NOT WRITTEN IN THE RESERVATION! it made very uncomfortable using the hot tub and going for breakfast
Review 46:hot tub
Review 47:the reception staff were very arrogant and even though we expressed an intention to eat in the restaurant they failed to tell us we needed to book, so when we went for dinner we were told they were fully booked. when we complained we were told there were 3 other restaurants in town. the tv only had Icelandic tv . Not what you would expect.
Review 48:I cant think of anything
Review 49:The breakfast was so so. Maybe we are just tired of the same selection throughout our stay in Iceland hotels.
Review 50:Our room was really big and we had a view of the mountains and the water. It was really clean and the staff very friendly.
Review 51:Hallway noise, insufficient light blocking blinds/curtains, unable to add extra bed upgraded to triple room at $$
Review 52:Helpful staff, awesome dinner, good included breakfast, in room coffee and tea, hot tub, working wifi, down the road from Kirkjufell,
Review 53:Bring your eye mask if you're staying near the solstice; windows don't have darkening shades.
Review 54:Great location on the water, hot tub has best view around.
Review 55:Shower was difficult - too high, got water everywhere - couldn't control the temperature very well. Unfortunately we were there during a bad storm and didn't get to explore the area much.
Review 56:Very clean, nice place, right on the ocean, with scads of gulls feeding.
Review 57:next to factories very expensive restaurant sauna has been getting a bit long in the tooth
Review 58:comfortable beds good breakfast famous mountain around the corner
Review 59:None
Review 60:The hotel is perfect for what it is. It isn't 5 star but you aren't going to find any of those around. Clean, comfortable and a small but nice breakfast spread. Also nice hot tub.
Review 61:Food well over priced even for Icelandic standard and of poor quality. Watery tasteless fish soup, over cooked and dry cod.
Review 62:Located in a beautiful area, room with sea view (if you are lucky)
Review 63:As with many places in Iceland there was no lift and, as were on the top floor, it meant carrying our heavy suitcases all the way.
Review 64:Staff on reception were very helpful and gave us good advice about the best routes to take in the bad weather we were experiencing. Our evening meal in the restaurant was good but like all things in Iceland expensive also.
Review 65:The room was very comfortable, and the hot tub was great - imagine a back yard hot tub in the US. Great location, and the food at the restaurant was outstanding.
Review 66:Nothing.
Review 67:The outdoor hot tub. Great breakfast with really yummy home made chocolate chip muffins. Good location for exploring Snæfellsnes. Friendly and helpful staff.
Review 68:Nothing
Review 69:Cute little hotel in a really beautiful part of Iceland. The food was great, a little expensive but that's the same everywhere in Iceland. Excellent surprise to me was the hot tub out the back overlooking the sea!! Beautiful.
Review 70:Restaurant doesn't cater for children so we ended up eating out. Functional rather than luxury but good value for money.
Review 71:Hotel is well positioned and room was a good size. Very clean and breakfast was brilliant.
Review 72:When the muffins ran out and I was worried there wouldn't be more.
Review 73:I don't need to talk about anything except the banana muffins. I am no expert but it's obvious that these are the best muffins in the world. I'm pretty sure they may be laced with some addictive substance because I could not get enough. Anyways, everything else was up to par and the staff was great. I'll be back for the muffins for sure.
Review 74:Our experience here was just okay. The location is remote, reaching it took us about 2 hours off the ring road 1 in whiteout snowy driving conditions-- nerve wracking if you are driving a 2WD car like we were. The room itself is very compact, barely room for the bed, no decorating, some mold in the bathroom. Would probably opt for something less remote in the future.
Review 75:Staff were friendly and helpful, and meals served in the dining room were delicious if a little overpriced. Complimentary breakfast was great.
Review 76:- we had a room in a separate building which resulted in walking outside for breakfast
Review 77:- the large room we had - the great meals in the Framnes restaurant - the wake up call for the Northern Light
Review 78:This is a great hotel for visiting Kirkjufell mountain and the hotel also offers an 'Aurora' wake up if something happens during the night. Really friendly staff and good food in the restaurant.
Review 79:We arrived in the middle of a heavy storm but were greeted with warm smiles and a comfortable, clean room. The town was covered in snow but still fantastic to explore and bird-watch from the shores. The food in the restaurant was exemplary, with a lovely selection of wines and cocktails . There's an optional Northern Lights wake-up call available but we stayed up late and spotted them from our window before running outside to see them properly. There's very little light pollution and outside the hotel is a perfectly calm, fitting place to watch them. Staff were so very helpful and couldn't have done more, it's a really easy-going relaxed atmosphere and we had a lovely dip in the hot tub before leaving. If you stay here make sure you go on one of the Laki Tours boat trips!
Review 80:Our room wasn't ready when we arrived but we got free coffee and mini muffins and chatted to other guests while we waited. We were in the annexe (we knew this when we booked as the main hotel was full) but we were very pleased to be given a comfortable room with a view over the harbour. It makes such a difference to have a view! Reception staff were friendly. We didn't really make use of the facilities, e.g. the hot tub, as once we were ensconced in our room we didn't feel like walking back to the hotel through the ice and snow. This was also why we didn't use the restaurant. There is an independent cafe which is part of the annexe's building. Breakfast was plentiful and enjoyable. The photographs in the restaurant made a welcome change from more common institutional pictures.
Review 81:Loved the location, interesting drive to get to it especially in a severe gale. Great for whale watching and on a clear night great for the northern lights.
Review 82:Chairs in the rooms are stylish but not particularly comfortable, but that's what the bed is for anyway :).
Review 83:The hotel's restaurant (and included breakfast) are absolutely amazing. If you sign up for the aurora watch, staff will come knock on your door if the aurora is sighted!
Review 84:Unfortunately we were packed off down the road to the hotel annexe. The rooms were OK, but had to walk through the snow for meals.
Review 85:Fantastic location between the fjord and the mountains.
Review 86:The rooms are rather basic. The decor as well as furnishings are old-fashioned. I suppose it does have a certain charm, though. Don't expect to get a view of the iconic Kirkjufell from the hotel. My room overlooked a large petrol tank.
Review 87:Excellent value for money and one of the best dinners I've had in Iceland. Plus the hotel has a good selection of beers.
Review 88:Room was very small We are a couple in our 30s, had requested a double room and were given a twin. Didn't complain as the hotel was very busy with coach loads off whale watching and northern light tours and we were only there 9pm-8am one evening
Review 89:Location is great! Breakfast is plentiful Bed was comfortable Wifi available throughout hotel
Review 90:Range of breakfast foods (toast, cereals, yoghurt, meats, cheese etc). Very, comfortable beds and well equipped rooms. Great location with beautiful snowy mountain and ocean views
Review 91:Nothing!
Review 92:Shower room was modern, with a powerful shower, bed was comfortable, view was amazing overlooking the bay, staff very friendly and helpful, we were early for check in but within 20mins had our room ready
Review 93:Bathroom was quite small but was ok for a few days.
Review 94:Staff was very helpful and friendly. We received a bottle of champagne and card as this was our honeymoon.
Review 95:The location of the hotel, right next to Kirkjufell . We got to see the Northern Lights from the hotel. Friendliness : The owner informed us on the forecasts of aurora borealis. He also offered us a glass of Brennivin for dessert with our Skyr ;-)). The food was excellent (fresh fish). We will definitely come back!
Review 96:We were told that breakfast started at 8 am We went out from the hotel very early morning and back to the hotel about 7.30 am and we found that breakfast was already started, it was good to have breakfast early
Review 97:Breakfast was mediocre, cereal and cold cuts. We constantly heard people stomping up the stairs, slamming doors and talking through the walls. Tiny tiny shower.
Review 98:Nice location next to kirkjufell mtn and easy drive to nearby national park with stunning scenery. Friendly helpful staff.
Review 99:There isn't much of a view (the hotel backs onto and old fish factory) though the location is great for getting to the town and surrounding countryside
Review 100:The atmosphere and the staff, the food and the convenience
Review 101:Would like to see more than lace curtains to close for privacy and to block out the light.
Review 102:This was one of the rare hotels I stayed at that had a proper bathroom and large shower. Breakfast was delicious and well prepared. The hotel was quiet and comfortable. Well priced.
Review 103:The jets on the hot pot don't work. It is nice and hot though, which is more important to me than jets anyhow. Also if you have trouble with stairs, ask for a room on the first floor. There is no elevator that I noticed. I didn't mind, but something some people might like to know.
Review 104:I liked having the window open, hearing the waves and the birds. I liked the proximity to Kirkjufell Mountain. I liked the staff and the food was good. I liked soaking in the hot pot before bed. I liked the shower....biggest in Iceland?
Review 105:TV; we could only get 1 channel in English, but it wasn't a major problem. There's a lot to see around the area so we didn't watch much anyway!
Review 106:Staff very friendly and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble for them at all. Room was clean and comfortable with a lovely view. The hotel was overall very friendly and welcoming with a super breakfast choice! It was also easy to find. Thank you for making it a very pleasant stay.
Review 107:The hotel was so cute. The rooms are small, but that's to be expected in Iceland. The beds were comfortable and the rooms clean. We ate at a local restaurant to get the fish and chips. Very good. It is a very cute/quaint town to walk around and enjoy the small fishing village. The breakfast was delicious and there was plenty to choose from.
Review 108:Beautiful location. The room was quiet and clean with sea view. The food at the restaurant was good and in decent portions. Good-quality and rich breakfast, with also fresh fruit (very appreciated). Free milk at night for our child (thank you so much!)
Review 109:Wifi did not work in our room (separate building from main hotel). Pricey for what your get but price point is typical for accommodations in Iceland.
Review 110:Cute fishing town and rooms in the hotel did not smell like fish. We had fish for dinner at the hotel restaurant and it was excellent! Vey clean facilities and private bathroom. Room was functional and beds comfortable.
Review 111:The wi-fi did not work in the room. We had to go out to the end of the hall to access it. Breakfast was served in the main hotel. Be sure to request a room in the main hotel!
Review 112:The location would be great, however they have some newer rooms down the road from the original hotel. Our room had a view of the factory across the road which stood between us and the water.
Review 113:A noisy group of Germans stayed in the bar till 1:30 and kept everyone awake.
Review 114:Nice staff and location on the quayside. The evening meal was first class!
Review 115:Due to some confusion on their end, we arrived a day earlier than expected. Nicola scrambled and found us a lovely apartment nearby for us to stay. Above and beyond the call of duty. Great spot to base your Snaefelsnes peninsula exploration.
Review 116:The view from the room was lovely, the staff friendly and the rooms were comfortable.
Review 117:Very friendly. Good location for whale watching
Review 118:Excellent all around.
Review 119:N/A
Review 120:Everything about this hotel was perfect, warm, clean and really friendly staff.
Review 121:A comfortable place to stay after a long drive! Friendly staff, in house restaurant tries hard, good strength free wifi
Review 122:No elevator.Have to climb up stairs with heavy luggage.
Review 123:The view is great.Good breakfast.
Review 124:Breakfast poor but in line with the rest of Iceland...
Review 125:Hot spot.the room is nice, clean and warm.Staff is extremely nice helping you during your stay
Review 126:Very friendly family run hotel in a great location.
Review 127:Please add more towels..:)
Review 128:Food..location..people..
Review 129:Nothing - it was all great
Review 130:Staff, room facilities, breakfast
