Reviews for Masseria Panareo

Review 1:While the masseria is in many regards an elegant tourist destination for multi-national vacationers, it lacks soul and warmth and intimacy. Panareo would be well served by a multilingual, well-traveled hostess who floats from the reception desk to the bar area to the restaurant throughout the day, especially upon arrival and during the cocktail and dinner hours. Staff relations felt tense and constrained during our four-day stay, and the presumed owners were aloof and disengaged. Masseria Panareo might do well to shift its significant investment towards personnel enhancements and away from handsome infrastructure improvements. Also, it is important to note that the property is difficult to find at first arrival. The masseria is located about 10 kilometers south of Otranto on Strada Provinciale 87 beyond two small military outposts. It is not easy to find the entry road after dark, and the address coordinates of Littoranea Otranto cannot be found on GPS. The entrance signage needs solar lighting at night like other nearby tourist properties.

Review 2:Very tastefully rehabilitated masseria (cf. large agricultural compound growing out of old latifundia-style southern Italian estates) transformed into a rather luxurious tourist facility with well-appointed modern rooms distributed around a central core building consisting of reception, dining, and bar areas. Extensive terraces with lovely views out to olive groves, working fields, sheep pastures in the foreground and with old stone watch tower and Adriatic Sea in the distance. Property offers an exquisitely restored limestone-vaulted dining room decorated with understated flair, where the establishment serves both breakfast and dinner. Copious, self-service breakfasts and even more abundant multi-course dinners providing a limited choice of pre-set menus for the day (at least during our autumnal stay at the masseria). High-season, summer dining options may be more expansive. Regional Italian dishes are made from fresh, locally sourced ingredients and are supported by an extensive regional wine list; food varies from inspiring to ordinary.

Review 3:Lack of choices on the dinner menu. Only offered a fix menu.

Review 4:Beautiful property with fabulous view of the sea. It was late in the season so the dining room was not up to full service. The only dinner choice was a fixed menu which we did not want. Otherwise it was a lovey facility and we would definitely stay there again.

Review 5:This time, our twin bedroom was tiny, and noisy. The reception staff was very off-hand and uninterested.

Review 6:Very good restaurant. Good breakfast. I stayed here before in a bigger room with great access to the terrace. This staff then was very helpful. The location is not convenient without a car, but in the area of great walks.

Review 7:The room smelled and felt a little damp. It was also tucked in a corner so was a bit dark ( room 14 )

Review 8:The food in the restaurant was excellent and very good value. The restaurant has been beautifully restored and the social areas were bright and welcoming. Bar prices very reasonable.

Review 9:Just a note that some rooms and the pool are separate from the main building with steps which would not suit a disabled visitor.

Review 10:The whole experience was fabulous including the staff, room, meals, pool, patio and the views.

Review 11:The rooms and the bed were small, more different fruits would be appreciated at breakfast. A bit expensive for what is offered.

Review 12:Extensive and elegant grounds, the wifi works well everywhere. The food was great but the menu is too limited for more than 3 nights stay.

Review 13:Booked 3 rooms and one was lovely - contemporary décor and wet room. The other 2 were a bit tired and in need of modernisation - heavy dark furniture and old fashioned bathrooms.

Review 14:Lovely pool, very good breakfast, lovely grounds, very kind staff, good value drinks

Review 15:The staff was very accommodating--lending us tennis racquets so we could use the court, adjusting the menu to suit preferences, even serving us dinner past 10pm on arrival Easter night.

Review 16:It was not easy to find the place.

Review 17:The owner was very good host, as he is the cook, he prepared some nice meals for the dinner for my family. Fantastic view, very nice old building, nice rooms with all facilities you need. Garden around with the view for the sea. I will absolutely come back there.

Review 18:Great location. Great accommodation in a quiet countryside, beautifully furnished. Very friendly, efficient staff. They have a wonderful restaurant, which provided beautiful breakfast and also delicious dinners made from the materials produced by the farm. Excellent value, both accommodation and dining. Although it was a low season, staff never showed any hesitance for a great service. Much recommended for those who want to visit nearby towns and cities such as Otranto, but who prefer to stay in a more tranquil place.

Review 19:-Unfriendly staff -Unprofessional staff -mold / mildew / fungi in the shower -unclean pool -get an new and not washed towel - faked calculation of the tourism tax ( i asked 3 times - but they charge me the double tourism taxe - watch!!!)

Review 20:Very Nice view. Nice Pool Nice breakfast Nice room

Review 21:It was an awesome place. The room was good. Bathroom a bit on the small size, but that is normal for Italy. The food was amazing and the portions were very big. The grounds were very nice. The pool was great but unfortunately it was a bit cold for us to be able to use it. Would definitely recommend and would go back.

Review 22:No GPS location, and no information on their page. Highly recommend to plan ahead. Once you get there, easy to locate yourself and to get in and out. Bathroom could be better, but it is ok and according to price.

Review 23:Dinner was great, beautiful view of the ocean, great location, close to Otranto and the main coastal road and local productions of cheese and olive oil. Friendly staff, fairly priced. Totally going back!

Review 24:Depending on the location of the quest's room some will have to carry their cases quite a distance.

Review 25:There was a varied menu and a good choice of wines. There was ample shade around the pool for those who wanted it. The grounds are attractively laid out and well maintained.

Review 26:The food was terrific, the best we had in our whole trip. We had dinner there 4 out of 5 nights.Dining on the patio under the jasmine covered pergola, moonlight glistening on the sea and the most complex and subtle cuisine served beautifully with wonderful local wines. Try the eggplant souffle with warm heart of caciocavallo cheese, dried figs and almonds another favorite was Tortelloni stuffed with octopus, beets and poppy seeds. Owner and chef Alex Zezza is a gifted and creative chef and modifies the menu with the seasons. He transformed a ruined farm complex into a modern resort and culinary delight.

Review 27:They just should do a little bit more to make this place beautiful. Just improve the rooms.... Restaurant is good but a bit heavy.
