Reviews for Hotel Virgilio

Review 1:The single room I got was quite small, so was the bathroom too, especially the shower box; however that didn't matter too much to me.

Review 2:Location of this hotel can't be better, as long as you want to stay in town, 50m away from Duomo's entrance. Room was newly-furnished and clean, quiet, so that quality of the sleep was very good. Service staff was very polite and attentive, and informative about the town and related activities. Breakfast spread was quite good, the breakfast room was small, but in front of the hotel, in the square, seating was available, with stunning view of the Duomo, although not to be enjoyed during cold months. All in all I found that value for money was quite high, as this is an hotel I would certainly go back the next time in beautiful Orvieto.

Review 3:Cheap very bad mattress which is very undesirable since the whole point is to sleep well. The shower was terrible. Impossible to wash without bumping your elbows, literally 24 inches square. We have had better experiences at motel 6

Review 4:Location was very good.

Review 5:Breakfast was lacking

Review 6:We had an amazing view of the church from our rooms, the staff was friendly and helpful. Loved how at night most of the other tourists left and stayed in other places so we had evenings with the locals. Amazing food and welcoming people.

Review 7:Location - and price! Value for money in the most perfect of locations in the most perfect of towns. Rooms are very small but modern, clean and have everything you need for a short stay.

Review 8:Nothing.

Review 9:How neat & elegant "The B&B".I like it so much. I will be back. The location is good.I went to mesa on church in the early morning. The church-painting is awesome ! Never miss it please --My personal viewpoint.

Review 10:The bathroom is tiny.

Review 11:Location is at door steps away from the cathedral. Carpark is nearby and we could drop off our bags at the hotel entrance before driving to a nearby public carpark. The hotel is surrounded by cafes, restaurants and shops. It offers great buffet breakfast and wifi all over the hotel. Most of all it is clean and comfortable to stay. We had a special deal for a last minute booking.

Review 12:The halls were a bit noisy. The sound echoed when someone opened or closed their doors. It was not bad enough to horribly disturb us.

Review 13:The location was wonderful, just next to the Duomo. The Duomo is a must see. The staff gave some great recommendations on where to eat and the staff was always friendly and helpful.

Review 14:Exceptionally friendly, helpful staff. The location could hardly be closer to the cathedral. Although parking is off site, it is just across the piazza and very reasonably priced.

Review 15:no bad experiences - staff very helpful and the place is spotlessly clean. The shower is a little tiny, but this is a minor quibble.

Review 16:location is everything here - right next door to the duomo which was the main reason for my 4 day stay, plus a little relaxation in this most beautiful of villages.

Review 17:Perfect location directly next to duomo. Room was small but as expected when we booked an economy room but it was clean. Very friendly staff at desk 24/7. Did not mind having to turn key in upon leaving each time- one less thing to worry about while out. Very lovely entrance upon entering the hotel and very easy to find.

Review 18:The room was tiny, only just fitted the bed in. It was clean though. The hotel is rather regimented, we couldn't check in until 3pm, which is fine, but when we dropped our luggage off, I asked to use the bathroom and was told it was closed, when we clearly saw the logo for a bathroom. At 10pm a hotel guest was having an ice-cream in the outside entrance sitting on a chair, and he was asked to eat it off the premise because it was not bought on site. I was not aware you could buy an ice cream on site, especially at that time.

Review 19:Its position right in the centre of the piazza is perfect. Really good spot. The public carpark is close and relatively cheap

Review 20:Poor standard of bedroom furnishing including plastic flowers. poor quality breakfast - tinned fruit! and not enough tables for size of hotel - we were asked to wait! Will not return nor recommend.

Review 21:location

Review 22:Not a bad experience with the hotel but with booking.com as it suggested that we would have a room with a view of the cathedral (perhaps there was small print or a get out clause but this was not visible on my confirmation email). Also, I would suggest to the hotel that it has a tie-up relationship with the car park opposite so that it is taken care of in the hotel bill rather than having to sort out 2 parking bills over night with the lovely car park lady.

Review 23:The location next to one of the most striking cathedrals in Italy was the main reason for choosing. We found the staff very helpful. What a beautiful setting

Review 24:The staff at the front desk were bored and seemed not wanting to be bothered. Sat and watched my 86 year old mom carry her suitcase around their desk. They didn't even look up!

Review 25:The hotel is in a fantastic location, across the square from the Duomo, but it isn't noisy. It is a friendly, well-run comfortable hotel and the staff is helpful and informative.

Review 26:The bed was kind of small but certainly usable.

Review 27:The owner was very friendly and helpful. We asked for more pillows and blankets and got them with a smile. The place was very new and clean--rooms recently refurbished.

Review 28:Amazing staff, hotel, and location! Right in the heart of town next to the Duomo di Orvieto. We had a wonderful stay at Hotel Virgilio, and would definitely recommend it. Our room was very clean and comfortable; we felt right at home. The breakfast had a nice variety of food selections, and the wifi was very reliable. Having AC in the middle of July was a welcome amenity!

Review 29:We arrive at 12.00 and was told room was not available until 3.00. It was extremely hot so we waited in the Duomo. No effort to make the room available earlier.

Review 30:Bed was a bit firm for us but is typical european style.

Review 31:Fantastic location in a gorgeous hilltop town. We were there in a particularly hot week but the hotel was air conditioned and a comfortable respite after hours of walking and exploring. Staff/owners were very friendly and helpful.

Review 32:Hot water ran out in the shower - fortunately if was scorching hot outside but nevertheless a hot shower is preferable! And whatever coffee brand they use is terrible - lets down what is otherwise a very good buffet breakfast.

Review 33:Right on the main square with view of cathedral and close to shops and restaurants.

Review 34:There are only four tables in the breakfast room which is below ground floor. Each day we saw people having to take their breakfast to another seating area on the ground floor. As a result, breakfast did not feel relaxed. It would be better to have two breakfast areas.

Review 35:The location was excellent as was the room

Review 36:One of the members of staff could have been a bit friendlier, but this is not a bit problem.

Review 37:The location was fantastic, we could not have asked for a better place.

Review 38:nothing really

Review 39:A really sympathetic renovation for such an important location opposite il Duomo. Staff attitudes were spot on. The stay was about you...sometimes in Italy it is about the hotel staff!

Review 40:Location and staff made our stay worth going back one day for sure!! The city and the surrounding areas are so beautiful you need time to take it all in!!

Review 41:Everything! Perfect, professional staff, best location, good breakfast. I mentioned that I could not eat gluten, but had my own crackers, and the next morning the breakfast waiter had gluten-free muffins for me. Great wifi, clean room, will stay here again.

Review 42:The breakfast room was beautifully appointed with wonderful food options, but the hours served could be earlier. We did some day trips and left early so missed out, although the staff did try to accommodate us.

Review 43:This staff was beyond exceptional! It was not a few, but every single person was helpful, friendly and went out of their way! The view from the room window was wonderful.

Review 44:The location on the Duomo square was fabulous. We got to see the Duomo in the evening when the square was empty and the other tourists were all gone.

Review 45:Wonderful location in Orvieto. Great view of Duomo and piazza from window. Very friendly staff. Easy and inexpensive to park the car. Very nice breakfast. I've stayed in Orvieto three other times at different properties. I would book this one again over the others.

Review 46:No mini fridge and small shower were slight disadvantages but did not lessen the great experience.

Review 47:Friendly, helpful staff and wonderful location in the Piazza Del Duomo.

Review 48:The hotel called a taxi to take us to the parking garage which is maybe a 10 minute drive and we were charged $35 euro. by comparison we ordered a car from Rome airport to Campi De'fiori for $50 euro - a 45 minute drive.

Review 49:Location cannot be beat. Elevator and a very nice breakfast.

Review 50:The shower was very small, even by European standards. In the single room, the narrow twin bed was a bit uncomfortable. Breakfast was adequate, but not spectacular.

Review 51:Hotel Vrigilio has excellent staff and an exellent location -- a perfect, place to spend the night in Orvieto. The room was very clean, wifi worked well, and overall facility was modern. Convient to the cathedral, tunnel tour, shops, and nightlife.

Review 52:Excellent location for visiting Orvieto. Could be noisy at night if there are a lot of people out. You can park right in front of the hotel to unload your suitcases and then move it to park across the plaza from the hotel. We really liked this place.

Review 53:When they say "small double" room they mean small. While we did not travel to Orvieto to stay in our room we would have liked just a little more space in the room. The bath towel we were provided was a good 6 inches wider than the shower. Another disappointment was the breakfast. They served instant coffee!

Review 54:This is in a great location. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Be warned, the church bells, from two churches, sound every 15 min 24 hours a day. If you are not a very sound sleeper, keep the windows closed.

Review 55:Nothing bad. The room was a bit small for American tastes, but not unusual for the area: one adapts!

Review 56:Staff was superb: helpful, charming - always welcoming. Rooms were modern, clean and neat. The soap smelled divine! Perfectly located on the plaza. Bedroom window overlooked a charming backyard and quiet alley. Quiet.

Review 57:Although we know beforehand that we booked a small bedroom, we were still surprised to find out how tiny the room was when we arrived.

Review 58:Location is the best, also the lady at the reception is very helpful.

Review 59:We parked in a parking lot just down the street from the bus station- when leaving we called a cab to take us to our car and felt that the cab driver totally ripped us off. He charged $15e for a 5 minute trip. Contact hotel for better and more convenient parking.

Review 60:The hotel has been recently been redone and is very comfortable. Location is perfect and the hotel had a lift

Review 61:I love Orvieto. This is my second trip to this beautiful city. Loved the hotel, the staff members were very accommodating. Breakfast area was warm and welcoming. Breakfast was excellent. Rooms and bathrooms were clean and comfortable. I came with a group of 6 all together. They had never been to Orvieto. They enjoyed their stay as much as I did. Very safe, within walking distance to fine dining, shopping, tours of the city and of course not to mention the gelati festival during our stay.

Review 62:I made the mistake of leaving my window open and I heard the hourly tower bells throughout the night.I would suggest putting on the AC. If you are a big person, you might find the bed in the single rooms too small.

Review 63:The central location is just perfect. Sitting on the terrace , enjoying a glass of wine and looking at the Duomo...especially after the bus loads of tourists left....was heavenly. The hosts were friendly and the breakfast room was so pretty. I had several nice cups of coffee and there was plenty to eat. Be aware that the single rooms are very small but spotless and perfectly adequate with a modern bathroom. There is an elevator too. The restaurant on the far right as you are looking at the hotel seems to be a good spot. We had a delicious lunch there. There are several restaurants within a few meters, all seem pretty nice. All in all, this is a great base from which to explore the charming city of Orvieto.

Review 64:one word--small; small room, small bathroom, small bed, small SHOWER! My husband could not even fit in the shower! There was only one usable plug in the entire room--you had to unplug the tv or minibar if you needed more than that; breakfast was adequate, but you are relegated to a cramped room in the basement with 3 tables if you want to eat; not sure why, when there are tables in the bar upstairs and outside as well that sit .

Review 65:Great location and clean, but I wouldn't stay there again

Review 66:A little walk from the funicular, but enjoyable strolling through town. Bed/sleeping wasn't the most comfortable as the comforter was kind of rough and very stiff.

Review 67:You can't get a closer location to the cathedral, and the staff were extremely helpful and polite. Breakfast had a lot of options and the room was bright.

Review 68:Parking is extra during the day and is 8 euro max.

Review 69:The location is exactly in the town center. The doumo is in your front yard. The hotel is boutique style, with an amazing staff and wonderful breakfast.

Review 70:Beds were quite small and we could have done with an extra blanket!

Review 71:Location was excellent, staff very friendly and helpful, hotel very clean. Great selection at breakfast.

Review 72:Great position, beautiful room with view. The staff were amazing, so friendly and helpful. Suggested and booked wonderful restaurants for dinner. Breakfast was terrific. I felt safe at all times. So glad I stayed here and would highly recommend.

Review 73:The small bad but it's not critical for me.

Review 74:The hotel located next to the Duomo and I could enjoy Orvieto perfectly. I really want to Orvieto again(Because of the restaurants in Orvieto) and also want to go this hotel again.

Review 75:we did have some minor trouble with wifi--some rooms had better access than others--absolutely nothing to stop us from returning.

Review 76:The staff was wonderful. They helped us with local buses, local restaurants, and local sites. They spoke enough English and even understood our limited Italian vocabulary. We were there with 9 students and couldn't have found a better place to be our home base for day trips to Florence, Rome, Assissi, Arezzo. Plus Orvieto is itself a historic place to visit.

Review 77:we liked everything. not a single complaint.

Review 78:Everything. Perfectly suited for our time in Orvieto. Only hotel with a view of the cathedral. Our room faced this fantastic rustic stone villa--and we loved that--although the hotel host apologized that it did not face the square! 5 star experience.

Review 79:Great location, steps away from the Duomo. Our hosts were welcoming and very helpful. They made restaurant reservations for us, and they lent us a large umbrella during a rainstorm. They made good suggestions, enabling us to make the most of our time in Orvieto.

Review 80:Nothing against the hotel, but I found that I ran out of things to do in Orvieto reasonably quickly. Certainly wouldn't need to stay more than one night.

Review 81:Great location - I could sit looking out the window directly at the duomo. Room was comfortable with a good, stable internet connection. Staff very helpful with anything I needed.

Review 82:Nothing. Everything was lovely!

Review 83:Orvieto's Duomo is a beautiful, awe-inspiring structure and the Hotel Virgilio is perfectly situated directly on the Piazza beside the cathedral. My room was spacious, attractively decorated & quiet, with a very comfortable mattress. Staff members were extremely pleasant and helpful in arranging restaurant bookings, suggesting sightseeing itineraries and meeting every request promptly & efficiently. Breakfast was excellent & generous. I would certainly recommend this boutique hotel to anyone planning a trip to Orvieto.

Review 84:Due to the location, parking in the lot on the other side of the piazza was a bit of a pain. Although it was free overnight, during the day it was quite expensive. The breakfast room is tiny, and can get uncomfortably crowded. The breakfast was mediocre.

Review 85:Hotel is literally in the main piazza, right next to the stunning duomo. The rooms were surprisingly large and quite comfortable. The staff were friendly and there are plenty of shops and restaurants only steps away from the hotel.

Review 86:Everything has the defects of its qualities, and the cathedral bells do ring pretty much every hour, which can make sleeping difficult. If you want to avoid this, opt for a room in the back.

Review 87:Everything. The location is unforgettable - pay the little extra and get a room facing the Duomo. As beautiful as Florence, but with far fewer people. The staff was very kind and helpful. The hotel has been recently renovated, and is immaculate - everything works we, including the WiFi, which I have found spotty in other hotels. Email the hotel for parking instructions. You can park very close toe the square if you are a guest.

Review 88:No parking. AC was turned off when we were there and leaving the window open at night was not an option due to church bells ringing every 15 mins.

Review 89:The location right on the Duomo Piazza in the center of town. View of the church and piazza from our room.

Review 90:The younger man at the front desk when we first arrived was not helpful and did not give us correct information when we asked for the location of a grocery store.

Review 91:The young lady at the front desk was very helpful and friendly.

Review 92:The breakfast was OK rather than good or excellent. The coffee was poor, service not very helpful and a small breakfast room that felt rather crowded.

Review 93:The location - opposite the Duomo. Wonderful view at night. Clean and comfortable room. Well-equipped bathroom and modern decoration in bedroom. Good wifi. Friendly staff. Easy to reach and find, even without a car.

Review 94:Location,location,location once we manage to drive into the Piazza Duomo parking was good if a space available at the time. Warm welcoming, good staff.

Review 95:Room and bathroom is a bit on the small side but there is sufficient space to move around. We only brought one suitcase for 2 people so that helped a lot. Water pressure for shower head is extremely weak so be prepared to take a long time to wash thoroughly.

Review 96:Hotel was clean and in a very central location right across from the Duomo. Very easy to find. Service from front desk was excellent. Reception took us to our room to show us how to use the key activated light switch. Breakfast at the hotel was great (lots more selection compared to most places). Wifi connection was strong and fast. Lift is available so we didn't have to walk them up the stairs. Hotel allowed us to store our luggage there for a few hours after check out so we could do some more sightseeing before leaving.

Review 97:There is nothing I did not like about Hotel Virigilio

Review 98:We enjoyed our stay at Hotel Virgilio. Excellent location and very friendly and hospitable staff. The room was very comfortable and, although it faced onto the piazza, there was no problem with noise. I would recommend this hotel.

Review 99:Nothing

Review 100:From the moment we arrived the hotel staff was very welcoming helpful and accommodating. We arrived early and left our luggage with them and when we xe back later to check in our luggage was already in the room and they wouldn't even accept a tip for doing so. Highly recommend this hotel.

Review 101:We booked with a courtyard view but were in what seemed like a cubby hole with tiny windows to a lane on bottom level. Mixed staff attitude depending on who was on the desk - cheery woman or arrogant man. The female staff was helpful in booking a restaurant. The breakfast was meagre with stale cakes and poor coffee which was limited to 2 cups. The room felt closed in and the musty smell was permeating through. This turned out to be the black mould growing in the shower. On request the mould was cleaned away but we were told it was not their fault because showers trap water, A generally depressing hotel, the worst I have stayed at in Italy over several visits.

Review 102:Location good as Orvieto is small and all hotels had good location.

Review 103:The location couldn't be better for visiting the Duomo and exploring Orvieto. The staff were friendly and the breakfast was delicious. I would recommend this little hotel.

Review 104:Breakfast room was a little small and characterless.

Review 105:Stayed for 2 nights. Excellent central location for a visit to Orvieto which is a lovely town in a nice rural setting. The hotel is located right next to the piazza Duomo and although a pedestrian area you can drive your car right across it to the hotel to drop off bags. Reception then advise where to park which is only the other side of the piazza (at a cost but acceptable). Good helpful reception staff. We booked a room overlooking the piazza which I would recommend if you can as we heard other rooms could be a bit small. Good lift. Ideal hotel to use as a base for the town.

Review 106:Parking is just terrible in Oriveto, tiny medieval town would not recommend even trying, find a parking spot outside to save your sanity!

Review 107:This hotel is directly opposite the Duomo lovely square to sit and watch the world go by. Staff cannot do enough for you Would highly recommend this hotel to any age group.

Review 108:No complaints. Large or infirm people should note that in my single room, the shower cubicle was small (700mm sq) - so don't drop the soap!

Review 109:Great location on the square next to the Duomo, very nice staff, comfortable, modern room in an attractive old building.

Review 110:The shower was very small

Review 111:The hotel is excellently located in town next to the church. The staff were very hopefully and spoke basic English. The room was bright and clean

Review 112:Very modern and a bit cold in the furnishings, but that's not necessary a bad thing.

Review 113:Very clean, lovely breakfast, and excellent staff with very good recommendations and excursion assistance. Overall a very pleasant stay. Request rooms with a view of the Duomo and you won't regret it.

Review 114:When we arrived on a Sunday night, they took the time to call around to see which restaurants were open and make a reservation for us. They were always eager to help whenever we had a question.

Review 115:I liked everything but just a tip to drivers: be careful of restricted zones while getting there. They are clearly marked though. Ask staff if uncertain.

Review 116:Staff was helpful and patient with us since we arrived very late. I needed their help afterwards as well since I made the mistake of driving in restricted areas of the town. My google maps was acting up and I got a little lost. It costs 70 euros if you drive past the traffic surveillance cameras but the staff helped me by contacting the police and explaining my situation. I still have not received a ticket so let's hope that it was solved. Ask the staff for parking tips, they have a good solution very nearby where you only pay during daytime hours.

Review 117:No fridge in room.

Review 118:Very clean and fresh rooms. Staff were friendly. Located right on the piazza which was great on a summer evening. Breakfast was fresh and had good range to choose from.

Review 119:Not a warm welcome and staff slightly distant during stay. To be fair could have been language barrier. Customer care definitely lacking when compared to other hotels on our trip

Review 120:Great location. Nice room. Wi-Fi worked well. Decent breakfast.

Review 121:Was hard to get to until I realized that you could drive up the one way street that said No Entry.

Review 122:The parking was great.breakfast was good. The location is spectacular right next to the Duomo The view and location was spectacular.

Review 123:Nothing all is best quality.

Review 124:Everything, David was friendly, and the room was very clean, and good quality trimmings, the amenitities was of a good quality. Mini bar, I would have love to have own kettle to make coffee in room.

Review 125:We really enjoyed our short stay at this hotel. Staff couldn't have been more helpful, our room was very clean and had everything we needed and the location is superb for visiting all the sites of Orvieto. Breakfast was tasty with a good selection of meats, cheeses, fruit and homemade cakes (highly recommended!)

Review 126:The room was a very small, but had a wonderful view.

Review 127:Staff was extremely helpful, friendly and knowledgable. Breakfast was great (meats, cheeses, pastries, yogurt, juices). Located right in front of the Duomo, couldn't be better. Wifi works perfectly.

Review 128:You had to leave your key at the desk and when the key left so did your electricity so no leaving a phone to charge. We Americans need our phones right? But we managed

Review 129:EVERYTHING The management was wonderful the view was spectacular and we couldn't have chosen a better location or city. HIGHLY recommend this location

Review 130:Check in is a little late @3pm, however staff was very accommodating and allowed us to leave our bags while we went off to explore. When we returned our bags were in our room.

Review 131:Beautiful hotel right next to the Duomo in the old city, small but comfortable double room, shower is extremely small but was not a problem for us. Breakfast was excellent with lots of variety.
