Reviews for Hotel Duomo

Review 1:Great position...rooms are simple but clean. Seems to be family run...or if not they are a very present and nice staff. They drive the car to a lot so event in a pedestrian only zone you can arrive by car. Our room had a lovely view of the cathedral...

Review 2:Perfect location, steps to the duomo(cathedral) and easy walk to everyone in the old town. The hotel has garage valet parking( costs not included in room rate). Good comfortable bed and nice breakfast( included in room rate)

Review 3:The size of the room - in the annex, but then again the price/quality was very good.

Review 4:The helpfulness of all the staff for any query. The location which is the best in the town of Orvieto - it's so close to everything.

Review 5:Was unable to check-in immediately, since I came a bit earlier but the room was not ready yet.

Review 6:I stayed in a separate building which was very close to the main one. It was very good and comfortable - both the room and the bathroom. Breakfast was fine. Perfectly located, just a few steps away from the cathedral. Wifi connection was good.

Review 7:Unfriendly staff in breakfast room spoiled my stay from day 1.

Review 8:Orvieto is one of those places where they don't like foreign tourists. You take the funicular train up to Piazza Cahen, then use that ticket for the minibus outside marked "Duomo" . The hotel is clearly signposted, but I was advised to avoid the steps and instead wheel my luggage along Via del Duomo, then take first right into Viccolo Maurizio. The check-in was prompt, the room is well-appointed, spacious and warm; WiFi connection was good. Older guy on reception in evening gave me map and directions to two good restaurants. Good choices for breakfast but only offered 1 coffee - great surprise when I wanted another. Enjoyed Orvieto Underground excursion and museum opp Duomo with Estrucan exhibits

Review 9:Staff was not friendly. Wouldn't usually bother me, since I don't go to a hotel because of staff friendliness, but they just seemed very unhappy. But hotel is lovely!

Review 10:Very clean, great location, good breakfast, looked newly renovated.

Review 11:Orvieto is a beautiful old hill town with small narrow streets add to that a Halloween night fair and it's very difficult to drive to the hotel. Call and the owner / manager will help you out very efficiently. I just didn't call him early enough trying to find it on my own.

Review 12:We arrived Halloween night when all kiddy goblins were in streets and couldn't find the hotel but the owner/manager walked with me to my parked car and drove me to the hotel and parked it in a safe parking area and also drove it out of the parking for me. I would recommend getting good directions of where to park before you get there. Orvieto is an awesome place to visit and Hotel Duomo is very clean.

Review 13:Nothing .

Review 14:The location was perfect . The family that owns and runs the hotel were friendly and helpful . The rooms were updated and a good size . Breakfast was great .

Review 15:Breakfast buffet was basic and only non-family member we dealt with was a bit sharp with breakfast coffees.

Review 16:Great location just a flight of stairs from the Duomo and Square. Lovely family run small hotel that is comfortable and very clean. Parking is available and that is a big plus in this hill town. Lots of Americans as this is listed in Rick Steves's guidebook.

Review 17:On our departure day we went for breakfast right at 8:00 am because we had to catch a train. They were not open yet so we had to go back to the room to pack and come down a little later. 8:00 a.m. is a bit late for breakfast to start anyway.

Review 18:We loved our room on the 3rd floor overlooking the Duomo and rooftops. We also had a glass of wine on their patio - a very inexpensive and generous portion of Orvieto Classico!

Review 19:We stayed in room in a separate building close to the hotel, dependance they called it. The room was recently renovated, really practical and comfortable. The breakfast was served in the main hotel and it was tasty.

Review 20:there were no problems

Review 21:this is a superb hotel value. the location is excellent and the staff are there to serve you. We found the stay to be near the best in two weeks in Italy.

Review 22:They had failed to register our booking and were full, but apologized profusely and obtained an alternative accommodation in a very acceptable 4* hotel across the Duomo Square and offered to cover the difference in room rate, parked our car free of charge and paid our drinks when we came by next day. Well handled.

Review 23:Some how the reservation was screwed up (booking.com?) and our revised two night stay was recored as one night. They found a nearby hotel (can not remember exactly.. Mantai? Very friendly also)....drove us over and transferred the bags both days!

Review 24:Our second stay....Super friendly staff (dad, daughter), great location, spacious suite with an inviting balcony. They now have a garage (12 euros a night) which is very conveinentyou

Review 25:Great location, very comfortable and well presented. And the people in the hotel were wonderful: they parked the car and when it came back it was even pointing the right way!

Review 26:Because they don't all speak English, they were not exactly patient when we tried to ask a question. With persistence, they could be helpful. It would have been lovely if the woman who brought us to our room in the annex would have walked a little slower with us instead of way in front of us and gave us a chance to get oriented to where we would find our room once we exited. The annex is up and around some corners through little 'streets'. They were also not cheerful when we asked about checking out early as we had an early train out of the town. There seemed to be tension in the lobby area when it came to customer service.

Review 27:Family run

Review 28:Room looked clean but I when I dropped something under the bed I noticed it had not been cleaned for weeks as I found an old receipt and the floor was full of dust. I did wish the room in the upper floor when making reservation trough Booking but my room was on the street level (few steps below). It was a bit noisy in the morning due to the street passing just outside the window. Small garden at hotel was closed for the breakfast due to the mosquitos though I could go there when asked the staff to open the door.

Review 29:Great location just few steps from Duomo. Separate building from the Hotel itself but only 50 m walk for the breakfast. Small room but there was everything I needed. Wifi did work very well, aricondition as well even it was really hot time (around 35 C degrees). I liked the privacy in a seprate building. Small minibar was enough to store some drinks. Even some issues I would stay again.

Review 30:The location is perfect for a visit to the old part of Orvieto. The staff is very friendly and helpful. They went out of their way to make our stay as pleasant as possible.

Review 31:Well, it did rain for about an hour or so on Sunday afternoon. And, we could only stay two nights. I highly recommend staying three nights to fully enjoy all that Orvietto has.

Review 32:Hotel Duomo is almost more like a B&B type of hotel. Family run, with warm friendly service. Being close to the Duomo is a winner, as you are also close to the bus stop, the TI office, the underground tour office.

Review 33:the location is superb, the staff are very welcoming and efficient - you feel that you are being taken care of. The hotel was spotlessly clean. There is also parking available too.

Review 34:We had a little difficulty with a night staff person that 'lost' our room key and argued with us about it. He had misplaced it behind his computer and found it the following morning as he was leaving.

Review 35:We arrive after many hours of travel. It was a little difficult to find but the Hotel Duomo is just a gem! Staff are very kind and helpful.

Review 36:Very pleasant stay at the well located Hotel Duomo. Accommodations were nice and comfortable and worked perfectly for our group. Location to the Duomo and city center were excellent.

Review 37:WiFi service not very good. Men running (owners?) hotel helpful and nice but the woman was not friendly at all. Always looked mad.

Review 38:It was a compact room but it had everything we needed. Liked having a hot shower, having a wardrobe and safe, it's closeness to our favorite Duomo. We stayed in Annex not the hotel itself which was perfect. Would stay again and recommend.

Review 39:We were in the annexe. However, our room was fine.

Review 40:Breakfast coffee is delicious. They let us use the hotel's computer. The hotel is right next to the amazing Cathedral.

Review 41:This is a three-star hotel, and its rooms are large, it is owned by Gianni and his wife, and is run by the rwo plus their daughter and son-in-law. It has the warmth of a family but Giannia and his Donna make sure everything is as should be.

Review 42:You can't get a better location, really. The staff were nice, although don't really speak English. The breakfast was good and the room was nice - even though we were put in another building down the street.

Review 43:The beds weren't comfortable--much too firm. The walls separating the rooms were very thin, and you could hear your neighbor snoring at night.

Review 44:Incredible staff willing to help with car parking and maneuvering through the narrow streets of Orvieto. You can't beat the location, literally steps from the Duomo!

Review 45:Friendly family run hotel. The rooms are clean and spacious with excellent wifi. There was a good selection of food for breakfast. The hotel was quiet and in and excellent location right next to the cathedral. I had a very pleasant stay here.

Review 46:The front desk staff were adequate but not very friendly.

Review 47:The room was large, clean, and the location perfect for exploring Orvieto. The hotel has an elevator.

Review 48:Nothing

Review 49:Great location friendly helpful staff Sunny outside patio area with nice furniture We had a balcony with table 2 chairs great for having a wine in the evening

Review 50:Room with a view of country and Duomo. Excellent location right in the centre yet . Family run small hotel, very friendly. Quite a basic hotel but the attention to detail, the welcoming staff, large rooms, small garden and the interesting art work make it something more.

Review 51:Pleasant staff though limited English

Review 52:Great location right in the middle of town just off the Piazza Duomo. The hotel including all the rooms are decorated with unique pieces of art. Very comfortable. Breakfast was good.

Review 53:Having to pay for parking.

Review 54:Our room was large and had all the things we needed. The hotel is in a great location right next to the Duomo. Breakfast wax excellent.

Review 55:Orvieto was good for a night on our way to the wine country of Tuscany.

Review 56:It was steps away from the Duomo which was amazing.. my favorite in Italy. Town was really nice and hotel was well located.

Review 57:We were in an annexe, so had to walk back to Hotel for breakfast, however annexe was very comfortable

Review 58:Within sight of Cathedral and close to main places of interest

Review 59:This is the friendliest family that runs this hotel, every detail is looked at. They have the best breakfast included and bring you coffee juice and wait on you through breakfast.

Review 60:This family run boutique hotel was just what we had hoped for. Come out of the hotel foyer, turn right & you are in the Piazza near the Duomo! Orvieto is delightful! An amazing three days with so much to see & do!

Review 61:We stayed in the annex, one of three nice big rooms each on its own floor. Wellkept with lots of space, all facilities. Good breakfast. Nice staff. Close to the Dome.

Review 62:I arrived here early this morning and left my bag for a 2.00 check-in. I had made my reservations on-line and the reviews were good. The moment I was led upstairs to my room, I knew I was in trouble. The very strong caustic smell of cleaning fluid burnt my nose. Upon entering the room, I explained I was having an asthma attack. The clerk opened the windows for me and suggested using the air conditioning. I stayed alone in the room for 2 minutes, longer than I should have. I returned to the front desk and told her I could not breathe in that room. She stated I was the only guest who had ever had an issue. I asked for a refund and was told it could not be done. She pointed to the 5 day prior to arrival rule. I was shown another room and the smell was not as strong . Now I've returned at 9pm -- too late to leave. I'll sleep at the foot of the bed, directly in front of the open window and wait until daylight to escape. Customer service lacking empathy and compassion give this a hotel a 1.

Review 63:Hotel Duomo is perfectly placed just a few steps below Piazza Duomo. The rooms are particularly spacious for a city centre hotel and are well equipped and spotlessly clean.

Review 64:Staff was very accomodating for meal reservations, taxi, etc. Great breakfast! Stayed in the annex; it was very quiet and comfortable. It's a short walk to hotel for breakfast but not a problem.

Review 65:The breakfast was only okay. The staff are efficient but not particularly warm and friendly.

Review 66:Very clean and nice large room with great views. Orvieto is a delight.

Review 67:No complaints.

Review 68:They whisk away your car, and park it for you! My husband loved this. The streets are narrow, and it was great not to worry about it. This is a perfect location, so close to the Duomo. Nice patio, where we had a glass of wine before dinner.

Review 69:Having to leave after only one week of being pampered.j

Review 70:Staff spent considerable time helping me sort out my mobile phone. So easy to reach everything of interest. Oh the icecream - incredibile!

Review 71:Staff were professional but not terribly friendly.

Review 72:Large room with plenty of space to spread your luggage out a bit. Great suite layout and scrupulously clean.

Review 73:Excellently located for visiting the cultural centre of Orvieto. Helpfulness of owners and staff. Private locked car parking , minimizing negotiation of narrow medieval streets.

Review 74:Low quality breakfast Uncomfortable bed Overpriced for the facilities offered (you pay only for the location)

Review 75:Perfect location next to the Duomo and in the city ventre. With 12 EUR you can leave the car in the hotel garage Nice staff

Review 76:If you're staying for longer and have a car, the parking in the historic centre of Orvieto could become expensive. Though I spoke Italian, I can imagine it might be difficult for non-Italian speakers as the staff didn't seem to speak much English.

Review 77:I liked the fact that the hotel was in a wonderful location near the spectacular cathedral and the rooms were comfortable with all modern facilities. The staff were quite friendly and helpful.

Review 78:we had to climb 3 flights of stairs to get to our room...hard on 70+ year olds, but staff assisted with heaviest cases.

Review 79:Close to centre of town and Duomo. Staff helpful. Room very clean and facilities very good. Would recommend.

Review 80:Nothing to report.

Review 81:Great location - practically opossite the Duomo. The reception is opened until late at night so there is no problem with checking in if you arrive late. You can park your car in a private parking (additional fees are applicable).

Review 82:Room heat would not turn off and it became a sauna overnight.

Review 83:Staff was very friendly. It's a bit hard to get to with a car, especially if it is large. But the staff will park it for you.

Review 84:Wifi required us to prop the door open. Parking is tricky, but this is not the hotel's problem.

Review 85:Good location, but not right on the cathedral square. Modern, clean and spacious room.

Review 86:No complaints at all

Review 87:The town of Orvieto is a lovely place to visit and for my second visit here, I had no hesitation in re-booking the Hotel Duomo for my stay. The location in the centre of town is really good, the hotel staff helpful, my room (in the Annexe) was really well furnished and spotlessly clean. If I ever go back to Orvieto I would again look at staying in this hotel

Review 88:Difficult to park--but the father made the car disappear and brought it back when we were leaving.

Review 89:The hotel has a great location--go outside and up the stairs to the Duomo. Family run and they do a great job. Good breakfast The daughter speaks English There were 3 adults and the room was large. There is a lift for the luggage

Review 90:The bed was very hard, but clean!

Review 91:Staff was friendly and the breakfast was very satisfying and filling. My husband surprised me and came a day later and the Hotel was very accommodating.

Review 92:Beds could have been more comfortable. Everything else was perfect!

Review 93:The hotel is in a perfect location. The staff was exceptionally friendly and accommodating. Our room was the largest we've seen in our European travels. It was very clean and had many extras. The beds were alright. We were tired when we went to bed so I could have slept on anything! Breakfast was just right!!

Review 94:Quite a hike from the funicular. Breakfast in the am was a little disappointing, only 1 person making coffee for everyone, food was ok.

Review 95:Very close to the Duomo. Room was clean and comfortable.

Review 96:Can't beat the location right next to Duomo Friendly and knowledgeable staff Quiet except for town bells on the hour which didn't bother us but might bother some Many close and excellent restaurants

Review 97:The hotel was very close to The Duomo area, shops and restaurants. It was very clean and well kept. Couldnt fault anything about it. Highly recommended.

Review 98:We had a room in the annex, which was separate to the hotel. It was very quiet & comfortable. We had lots of cupboard space for our clothing. Breakfast was very nice, & the lady in the breakfast room was really lovely.

Review 99:We stayed in the hotel annex a couple of blocks from the main hotel. Both the hotel and annex are centrally located. Getting to our room required climbing a couple of flights of stairs. The room and bath were modern, well appointed, and very nice. The rate included a breakfast that was excellent. The owner’s English was not extensive (however better than our Italian), but he had a family member that was fluent when the internet would not work from the annex the second day. Overall, the hotel was very nice and a good value.

Review 100:This hotel is owned and operated by a wonderful family. Our room was quite large and had views of the Duomo from both sides of the room. The bathroom was completely updated. They offer a very nice breakfast and great cappuccinos. It is centrally located within a short walk to the Duomo as well as many great restaurants and shops. I would definitely return to this hotel

Review 101:room was on the ground floor without a window, however, for an overnight stay this is a minor point.

Review 102:very clean comfortable room with excellent facilities, good wifi connection and enjoyable breakfast. I would stay here again.

Review 103:Comfortable, spotless hotel just metres from the Duomo. Well organisedbreakfast room. Convenient parking arrangement and good value at 12 Europer night. Loved the funky slippers!

Review 104:Breakfast was so so

Review 105:Location with view of duomo but off the main square, large comfortable room with big windows and modern bathroom, interesting artwork displayed throughout. Nice touch having robe and slippers in the room.

Review 106:The breakfast buffet was ok, but could be improved.

Review 107:Friendly, helpful and welcoming staff. Excellent location. Quiet, with great view over rooftops and hills beyond at the back of the hotel. Good-size bathroom with window. Spacious, clean room, ideal for a short (business) stay, with wifi and desk.

Review 108:None

Review 109:Best location right next to the Duomo, stuff very helpful and ready to please you, fresh and plentiful breakfast, drive to the front door and they will park the car for you,(12 euro... worth every cent) we will highly recommend Romeo and Sandra

Review 110:We drove from Rome to Orvieto at night and the Garmin did get us to the hotel though we stopped to ask when it told us to go up a one-way street. And the street it’s on is just wide enough for your car when you pull up out front. The hotel has a large lobby with the dining room right off it. Breakfast was very good and they would provide eggs as you liked them. The usual spread of breads, cheeses, salami and ham as well as juices and coffee, the latter two which were brought to your table and refilled at your request. The family that run the hotel are friendly and care for their guests and the others we met, including the night desk guy, who spoke a little English, though we can speak Italian, was friendly and helpful getting our bags up to the room. We were on the third floor in a Junior Suite. The room was large as was the bath. As for location, superb. Not more than 100 feet to the Duomo, a pleasant ristorante that fronts the piazza, as well as a wine bar. The car is taken each time you return and parked in their closed lot, and retrieved when you need it. You can follow the driver as he walks to get the car and take it from there, but in any case they will turn it around in the narrow street to make sure you’re facing in the right direction to exit. Access to and from the hotel is easy, though living on a hill means lot of curves and switchbacks. But that just adds to the fun of driving in Italy. Overall this was a very nice hotel, in a very central spot on a very quiet street. We would stay here again.

Review 111:Property needs updating. "Deluxe" room wasn't really all that large. Breakfast was ok but for sure could have been better.

Review 112:The location right next to the duomo and parking service for the car were fantastic. One front desk person very helpful.

Review 113:convenient location just off the piazza near the Duomo. Staff was helpful. Breakfast was very good. We were able to leave our luggage for several hours after check out.

Review 114:Staff very friendly and helpful particularly with parking Excellent location near the square. comfortable spacious rooms good breakfast. In all a very pleasant stay

Review 115:We were very pleased with everything.

Review 116:We had a view of the Duomo from our window. The hotel is on the simple side, but everything was clean, the room was nice, there was an elevator, wifi, and a good breakfast. There is a parking garage, too (they park the car for you), which was a nice perk. You couldn't ask for a better location in Orvieto, which is a real gem of a town.

Review 117:The lobby looks a little worn and is not very inviting, but the room was clean, the linens were nice, and the breakfast was very good.

Review 118:Hotel Duomo is nicely situated in the heart of all that we wanted to see in Orvieto - the Duomo, the Etruscan Museum, etc. It was challenging to reach it by car, but once at the hotel they parked it for us offsite, which is a very nice convenience.

Review 119:We arrived on a motorbike at 9.00pm in the pouring rain to be met by a guy on reception who spoke no English and had the almost impossible task of making us understand that we were in a separate part of the hotel about 4 streets away. It did not help that he thought the best way of telling us was to shout in Italian. We eventually got him to show us where to go and all was well. Maybe some written instructions would be a good idea.

Review 120:Very nice hotel and excellent helpful English speaking staff. Good modern bathroom with excellent shower. Nice breakfast and would definitely stay again.

Review 121:The hotel was lovely. we had a double room in the annex which is just round the corner to the main hotel. The annex has 3 rooms over 3 floors and we had the top one with stunning views over the rooftops. The room and en-suite were large and very comfortable. The staff were very friendly and the man on reception took us to our room and showed us everything . they parked our car and returned it the next morning. breakfast typically italian and served in the main hotel was very good. The hotel is just a few metres from Duomo which is stunning as is Orvieto itself. There are plenty of shops and restaurants nearby.
