Reviews for Hotel Villa Ciconia

Review 1:Even though it was writen in my booking details that payment is when i stay, the hotel has charged my credit card without permission while it was supposed to be for preathoresation.

Review 2:The room was wonderful all in all. Restuarant was buissy wih slow service but AMAZING GLUTEN FREE PIZZA!

Review 3:We had a tremendous with Villa Ciconia during our three days and two nights. The hotel has a nice history going back to the 13th century. Even though the hotel is located outside of old Orvieto, it is in a park like setting that makes one feel as though they are on a large private estate. The hotel staff was great and the restaurant is fabulous, as are the wait staff. We ate both dinners and a lunch at the restaurant because every meal was excellent.

Review 4:The bathroom could use a thorough cleaning. The grout was getting a little too dingy. Room was generously sized. A/C could be cooler.

Review 5:We had a car and Wanted hassle free parking. The Villa is lovely, the restaurant a surprising "10", since we didn't realize there was one onsite. Didn't use pool but it looked great.

Review 6:Nothing not to like!

Review 7:Beautiful old building with excellent facilities. Very helpful staff. Delicious evening meal. Lovely garden and pool. Convenient for visiting Orvieto. Good parking.

Review 8:Villa Ciconia has a wonderful Michelin rated restaurant. They nicely decorated our table for our anniversary. Refreshing swimming pool and beautiful landscape. Room was spacious and dog friendly. Full breakfast.

Review 9:The bed was hard, but all beds in Europe are, so that's fine.

Review 10:Location was great and close to the Autostrada and Orvieto. The building was charming and the pool and restaurant were great.

Review 11:A suggestion that the shower tiles need a good scrub and the glass surrounds replacing Can be readily overlooked in the big picture being so good

Review 12:The family atmosphere in the hotel and restaurant was fantastic . The restaurant food and service everything you could want The grounds were great and the building beautiful A very authentic old villa run by wonderful people

Review 13:Not having more time to spend in this hotel :D

Review 14:Wonderful swimming pool. Although surrounded by magnificent bamboos and magnolias the pool was spotless. Also very calm and quiet since there were no children around. The hotel is an old italian villa and you'll enjoy the experience.

Review 15:Breakfast not as nice as other places on our trip, hotel was quite far from Orvieto & nothing else around it

Review 16:Great swimming pool, fabulous restaurant on site, free wifi, huge bedroom

Review 17:It is not what looks like in the photos. An old building that is not aconditioned for the hotel it pretends to be. No elevators, bad and small bathrooms and lots of stairs in a complicate and irrational building. Also we asked for a 4 Bed Room and got a double with two small added beds.

Review 18:Air conditioning in bed rooms was not effective so uncomfortable in the very hot conditions over-night.

Review 19:Historic building with interesting features; great pool; good brekky; great parking; solitude; convenient for Orvieto.

Review 20:Wifi dropped out too easily. The only reliable place to pick it up was in the breakfast room.

Review 21:It was quiet and had a good restaurant on site. It was a lovely old building, well restored in character.....so lots of stairs.

Review 22:Showerhead leaked and needs to be replaced.

Review 23:Charming hotel built in 16th century and situated in pleasant surroundings. Very helpful staff who suggested places to see that were not in the guide books. Just a 20 minute stroll to the funicular up-to Orvieto.

Review 24:No amount of charm and style made up for the cobwebs found at floor level in several corners of our room and the easily seen dust on furniture. However, having said 9that we do have to acknowledge that the bed linen and bathroom were very clean. A minor irrigation was that the hotel and dinning room seemed to operate as separate busnesses and charging meals taken during our stay to our room was not permitted. More careful attention to detail should improve overall guest experience considerably.

Review 25:We liked the traditional style of the building and the furnishing of the room. The location and ease of parking is a bonus for those traveling by car, however the Hotel would possably be to far from other amenities for those without transportation of their own. The staff were frendly and did their best to help with requests wherever possible.

Review 26:Having to leave too soon and miss breakfast.

Review 27:Lovely old building friendly staff and nice and quiet. I was collecting a boat from Naples and arrived with a large trailer in tow which could of been a problem however the staff were very helpful, and after a 10hour drive this was very welcoming. Great restaurant too.

Review 28:Our hosts couldn't have been more helpful and friendly. The setting of the hotel was lovely and was a quiet oasis for 2 very tired tourists! The room was spacious, quiet and beautiful. The meals at the restaurant were delicious.

Review 29:The salty part of the breakfast was a bit poor, otherwise fine.

Review 30:The location is great, close to the enchanting city of Orvieto, but far enough to be set in a very relaxing environment. Extremely clean. The bed was one of the best I ever had.

Review 31:We loved everything and wished we could have stayed longer.

Review 32:The whole experience of staying at the villa will be long remembered. It was perfect in every way !!! The meal we had in the restaurant was one of the best we have had in the three months we have been travelling in Europe.

Review 33:A full length mirror in the bedroom would have been useful. More WiFi access points to improve signal quality throughout the solid stone walled building. Would have liked the option to eat indoors as we don't like eating while others are smoking.

Review 34:Old world charm and beauty of the villa. The staff tool a genuine interest in their customers. Accommodating around vegetarian needs. Delicious meals.

Review 35:The garden was nice but needed a gardner to maintain it better. There is much more to do with the garden, so close to the river.

Review 36:The staff was extremely charming. Big rooms. Good swimming pool. The restaurant was very good and not expensive. It's a very quiet, peacefull and nice place. Excellent location. We go back.

Review 37:At the restaurant, the very, very long waiting time between the courses (but that appears to be frequent in that part of Italy) .

Review 38:The hotel is really excellent, an historical house with modern facilities (including wifi), staff quite urbane and smiling, a nice swimming pool, a pleasant garden, a very good food, near one of the nicest Umbrian cities.

Review 39:Restaurant closed for a big party. Consequently very noisey till 1.30 in the morning - not amused! Alternative good restaurants some 15-20 minutes away.

Review 40:Beautiful old castle type mansion, with large garden and river in grounds. Large, clean airy rooms. Helpful owner and staff. Good breakfast.

Review 41:Nothing

Review 42:Everything, room , staff, restaurant and location

Review 43:Beautiful settings. The service and the meals in the dining restaurant were excellent. Large selection of good wines.

Review 44:Breakfast was lacking a bit yet the restaurant was excellent.

Review 45:The ambiance, location and restaurant.

Review 46:Lovely building. Relaxed helpful staff. Great pool. Nice breakfast

Review 47:beautiful historic hotel and grounds and great restaurant al fresco

Review 48:The relaxed atmosphere and helpfulness of the staff. The beautiful building and pool, garden and pool and now a very good restaurant.

Review 49:Air con defective. Dirty floor. Permanent radio in dining room!

Review 50:Good location. Nice building. Great breakfast , dinner and pool.

Review 51:swimming pool

Review 52:Room was spacious but a little outdated. I liked the old world feel of the place. Orvieto is a wonderful little town worth visiting.

Review 53:Loved location, pool, room.

Review 54:Excellent hotel with superb restaurang! The restaurant in itself was worth the trip

Review 55:WiFi would have been nice (free or not).

Review 56:The way we were treated.

Review 57:Located in an area offering beautiful Italian countryside.

Review 58:Character building convenient for Orvieto

Review 59:We found it very charming, had a great time playing on the grounds, and the staff was very helpful.

Review 60:The restaurant offers good value for money. The pizza tartufo was delicious.

Review 61:They upgraded room, the restaurant, the staff, the ground, the location. Excellent stay. Not one complaint. Not one! Book here!

Review 62:Beautiful old hotel with a great atmosphere. We had a meal in the restaurant which was excellent and very busy, so a good idea to book.

Review 63:Authentic atmosphere , fabulous food, peaceful setting...clean, friendly...great hotel!!!!

Review 64:It's very far if you are not by car

Review 65:The hotel was beautiful very good food and staff

Review 66:The restaurant was amazing! super helpful staff and incredible food at great prices.

Review 67:Personal interest of owner in guests. Great palazzo, Nice restaurant, good pool

Review 68:Restaurant had often large groups, but if you ask for table in the breakfast room it's OK. Restaurant operated by separate family and separate payment, no booking on room account.

Review 69:Nice villa, renovated but authentic atmosphere remained Very friendly staff Quiet environment Good restaurant at reasonable prices Just outside the village, good access

Review 70:it was pretty empty when we were there at the end of the season. it was a big villa type castle and a little spooky at night! If there had been more people it wouldn't have been so.

Review 71:Amazing villa, so old! The facilities were fine, we had everything we needed.

Review 72:Rooms not sound proofed between neighbouring walls. Tons of Mosquitos in sept oct.

Review 73:This hotel is situated in a quiet location 4 km from historic part of Orvietto. Lonely quaint 15th century building and grounds with swimming pool. Breakfast was lovely. Rooms were large and comfortable.

Review 74:This was a beautiful villa. It was quiet and relaxing. The pool is large yet quiet during our stay. It is a short drive to Orvieto and easy to access, plenty of parking.

Review 75:As in most of Italy, pillows could be softer, though bed was reallycomfortable.

Review 76:Staff was especially warm and friendly. Breakfast was a real treat. Roomwas large and well appointed. Had a problem with air conditioning thatwas immediately repaired

Review 77:Bathroom was very small. Breakfast was very simple.

Review 78:It was a beautifully restored villa with a nice pool out back, great for kids. A bit of a hike to the city of Orvietto but easily accessible via public transit.

Review 79:Very calm location in a true natural garden; very much appreciated the vicinity of the small river nearby. Nice people who gengtly care about your comfort. Price is fair as well.

Review 80:There was nothing I didn't like except that I couldn't stay longer.

Review 81:This was a most beautiful hotel with exceptionally friendly and helpful staff. Breakfast was good, fairly standard but sitting and eating it in the garden under the wisteria in the lovely warm Umbrian sunshine was out of this world. The pool is wonderful and we spent many an hour relaxing in this wonderful place. Being so close to Orvieto and all the charms of this beautiful hilltop town was just a bonus! Would strongly recommend this to anyone looking for a peaceful retreat. The very lovely owner kindly drove us to the station rather than letting us get a taxi - so kind!!!

Review 82:Excellent location. Excellent staff and management. Very well maintained classic structure that has been upgraded inside. Large rooms and bathrooms. On-site restaurant that is reasonably priced, with very good food. This hotel is a good value.

Review 83:The hotel needs either an upgrade ( very expensive no doubt) orrecognition that it is now really a "bed and breakfast"location not a hotel. Accept that the restaurant has closed!

Review 84:The staff were very helpful. The location is close ( by car) to Orvietoand convenient for access to other worthwhile visits in Umbria andTuscany. The building, grounds and pool, while needing some upgrade, arequite unusual.

Review 85:Staff assisted with confirming our next booking at a B&B in Siena, but did not pass on our request for three single beds.

Review 86:Large spacious room accommodating three singles easily.

Review 87:There was no in room Internet service.

Review 88:Villa Ciconia offers an authentic visit into 17 th century home. It is full of antiques and managed by friendly helpful staff. Staying at Villa Ciconia is like a visit to a friends home.

Review 89:Not very close to the historic centre of Orvieto.

Review 90:Lovely ´countryside type´ of hotel outside the center of Orvieto. Thehistoric building is sturdy in a pretty garden. The room was fine butthe bathroom smallish. Breakfast was ok.

Review 91:If you don't have a car then don't stay here. There are no restaurants nearby and the one in the hotel is never open. It's quite a walk over to Orvieto, add all your exploring and a return trip you don't feel like doing it again come dinner time. The pool was freezing and the mosquito's were really bad so scratch that as a reason for staying here. Walls are a bit thin as well so you can hear ever word in the next room. There is a bus stop right out front of the hotel but it's very infrequent and no one seemed to know much about it. All the above said, if you have a car this would be a great choice.

Review 92:Beautiful hotel with gorgeous grounds. The rooms are clean and large. Breakfast provides you wi Los of options. Staff are very helpful and try their best to make you feel at home.

Review 93:The only thing I would change was the toiletries in the bathrrom :)

Review 94:Nice little mansion in beautiful surroundings. Very romantic. Large rooms, perfect bed. Nice and polite staff. Good breakfast.

Review 95:Restaurant was not open. This stay was at the end of a long drive up fromsouthern Italy. We chose it because of its' ease of access to themotorway and because we could eat in the restaurant with no moredriving. However, we had to dive into the centre of Orvieto.

Review 96:Hotel in a lovely setting.A Bit run down inside.

Review 97:Lovely historic building carefully restored Comfortable bedroom with good decor and modern bathroom Good breakfast simple but good food available in the evening if you don't want to go into Orvieto Helpful staff Good value

Review 98:The staff were not particularly friendly or welcoming. The food in the restaurant was good, but there is a very llimited menu and I was the only one eating so there was a strange atmosphere.

Review 99:The hotel is in a beautiful old building which has a huge amount of character, though it has been well modernised. The pool is set in the garden and is absolutely wonderful, with lots of shade on a hot day.

Review 100:Website gives the impression this hotel is in the countryside but itsnot. Water in shower and also teapot smelled of fish! The hotel has noatmosphere and we found this to be a disappointing stay. We caught thetrain to Rome but it took 1.5 hrs. We would not stay here again.

Review 101:After reading previous reviews we were expecting something special andbooked for three nights during trip of Italy. This hotel is a lovely oldbuilding but sadly in need of som tlc. The rooms are nice and spaciousbut the bathroom was not nice. Staff were very pleasant but the hotelappeared to be understaffed, one person trying to cover reception, takefood orders and wait on tables! The pool is nice and you can sitoutside. For some reason the restaurant is only open for one hour in theevening and does not offer many choices.

Review 102:Location a few kilometers from Orvieto centre. No restaurant facilitywhile we were there (except from breakfast) - but when we ordered thiswas not mentioned (actually it stated that the restaurant was openevery night)

Review 103:Great to have a swimming pool, large room

Review 104:we stayed there for the second time very friendly and helpful staff, nice atmosphere our kids liked the pool very much unfortunately the restaurant was not open

Review 105:The location away from the hustle and bustle of Orvieto but only ten minute walk to the funicular railway or two minute drive, also same from railway station whoich has direct links to Rome,Florence and Sienna. Staff were wonderful and very knowledgable of the area. Hotel setting in lovely grounds with a wonderful pool to cool off in after sightseeing . The rooms were absoulately lovely, tastefuly furnished and kept .. to a high standard of cleanlieness . Lunch and evening meals when available were very tasty and home cooked. Staff went out of their way to organise food when not arranged to be available. We found this hotel an excellent place to stay and would certainly go back and recommend to friends.

Review 106:Very pleasant staff. Very good, clean, more than ample facility andaccomodations. Good point of departure for visiting Orvieto. Easilyreached, right off the a1 (Rome to Florence). Would be happy to staythere again.

Review 107:The hotel dining room was a little dim and a tad functional and parts of the outside ateas, particularly around the pool area looken in need of a little TLC.

Review 108:The hotel was central to where we needed to be but was quietly tucked away and was peaceful. The room was also well presented and always clean and tidy.

Review 109:the only critic, would be that the swimming pool is not heated , so therefore a bit too cool for us to use . but that would not stop me going back.

Review 110:what can i say about villa ciconia .. "WHAT A GEM" .An oasis of calm after visiting Orvieto ,with its hundreds of tourist ,as were we of course . but to be able to escape at the end of aday spent sight seeing was just wonderful .. The staff were very welcoming ,but not intrusive . our room was very spacious ,and overlooked the pool and garden ,just lovely . if we were ever in that area again we would definately go back , and would not hesitate to recommend villa ciconia to other travellers . Just wish we could have stayed longer.

Review 111:Beautiful 16th Century Villa in a wonderful setting and close to the intriguing old town of Orvieto. Definitely would stay here again. Ask for the Tower Room.

Review 112:i like the setting of the hotel. the rooms are very roomy and has character.

Review 113:Great hotel, it needed a bit of tidying up. Again, what is it with the Italian showers?

Review 114:No complaints at all

Review 115:What a great Hotel. Friendly staff, great Food, good Location.

Review 116:Serene environment with friendly staff.

Review 117:Staff was fabulous . Extremly clean

The Fine Print
