Reviews for Grand Hotel Italia

Review 1:Our gps took down a very old narrow road off the top from the hotel. Just a warning.

Review 2:Location Hotel parking $15, paying a parking ticket , if you chance to get one,? Is $14 so we didn't feel bad about it.

Review 3:The staff. Extremely unfriendly and unhelpful. Never said hello when I entered and exited hotel. Didn't warn me about video monitoring of cars--nonresidents cannot drive in certain places in town. You get a ticket if camera catches you, but hotel can register you with the police so you don't get a ticket. Fortunately, I didn't get a ticket (at least yet), but they knew I had a car and should have said something.

Review 4:The room was nice

Review 5:Breakfast was VERY BASIC continental. It was a Herculean feat trying to find the hotel while driving....small, twisting roads within the city walls.

Review 6:Ask for Room 501....it has a balcony with an outstanding view! The elevator stops 1/2 flight below the top floor, but it's worth the few steps. Private (gated) parking is available.

Review 7:Housekeeping service-did not change my bed linen unless I asked them to, did not clean the floor so lots of dust, no mosquito screens, no ironing board in room so you have to ask at reception and carry it to your room yourself-never seen that in any other hotel; breakfast was the same every day and they only got only one kind of the cheapest soft salami which was not good quality

Review 8:Location, room décor, bathroom décor

Review 9:The location was fantastic, just a casual walk from the center of activity, dining, museums, etc. The hotel staff were very pleasant and helpful with all our needs. We drove to Orvieto and were able to park in a hotel-reserved spot (at a nominal charge) only a short walk from the hotel (you should reserve a parking spot in advance as it is limited availability).

Review 10:Housekeeping services-did not change bed linens unless I ask them to, did not clean the floor so there was lots of dirt and dust accumulating in the room. The bed cover was also very dirty. No laundry service during my stay and no iron in the room, you need to carry the iron and the iron board yourself from reception to your room. For a 4-star hotel breakfast was very basic with low quality ham and bread.

Review 11:Location, room décor, bathroom décor, air conditioning

Review 12:Some of the desk personnel were a bit standoffish.

Review 13:Lovely large room with great view.

Review 14:Poor breakfast,

Review 15:Great Loaction

Review 16:Everything worked well, but the atmosphere/charm of the hotel wasn't that special.

Review 17:The location.

Review 18:Very nice interior.

Review 19:Coffee at breakfast was not good. One must ask for capachino to be make on the machine rather than what is available in the dinning room.

Review 20:Air conditioning didnt work.

Review 21:The location in the to historical center.

Review 22:Wi-Fi - room 405 does not get wi-fi!! Furthermore quality is extremely slow.

Review 23:Location Staff Room size

Review 24:Lots of problems of wifi connection in my room.

Review 25:staff. Location

Review 26:Room with roof terrace, size of room, the power shower with variable speed...

Review 27:The included breakfast buffet needed more fresh fruit and vegetable options. Also they ran out of yogurt before we got there in the morning and never replaced it.

Review 28:The location is excellent. The day staff was very helpful and accommodated our request to hold our bags after we checked out. The staff in the restaurant was friendly too.

Review 29:I have never written a negative review before. What follows is a list of facts, and my view is that they do not add up to four stars. We were Sent up to a room which was not made at 2.00pm when we had booked. We were asked to go away while it was made up. No apology was given. When we did gain entrance, towels had not been provided. The room was quite small for four star. The shower was over a bath, without a screen and could not be pointed so it did not direct water on the floor. A shower screen had been fitted but was no longer there. Small pieces of the ceiling had fallen on the floor near the door, because there was a wet patch with green mould growing on it.

Review 30:This hotel is well located a few metres from Via Cavour, the Main Street through the town. Windows are double glazed - important because there is a restaurant next door and a Piazza nearby. Breakfast was good.

Review 31:Nothing not to like

Review 32:We had a wonderful room, spacious with beautiful bathroom and lovely big terrace & smaller one off bedroom with amazing views. It's proximity to Main Street in historical centre & Piazza del Popollo makes walking to sights & restaurants & duomo very easy

Review 33:Absolutely nothing!

Review 34:Great little hotel with on a fantastic little street in Orvieto. Closeto everything, but away from the crowds. The hotel staff was veryaccommodating, even going so far as to steam some "latte" formy young son.The breakfast, which is included in the price of the room, was much nicer than we expected. I've read some complaints about the ringing of the church bells throughout the night...if you don't want to hear the bells, don't come to Orvieto!! Make sure you eat at il Cocco while visiting Orvieto, too.

Review 35:I had stayed at Grand Hotel Italia several years ago with some of my students, and it was a good experience, so I decided to return again with different students (14-18 years old). I was pleasantly surprised by its improvements. The rooms had been renovated and all were tastefully decorated. The location is ideal for a real Orvieto experience: close to several piazzas, including the Duomo. The staff could speak English fluently and they offered great suggestions for dining and side trips. I will certainly come back again soon.

Review 36:while we lucked out and got what might have been the only parking space they had for the hotel, i could see how the lack of parking could become a problem.

Review 37:it was mostly all very very good - with a helpful staff and great location

Review 38:Less than average breakfast and wifi didn't work in our room. Television impossible to figure out, so we couldn't be bother with it in the end.

Review 39:Location was excellent and staff were friendly. Quiet and spacious room.

Review 40:We arrived by car and even with directions found it very difficult to get to the hotel (including every day that we took the car out). Parking in their garage was a nightmare.

Review 41:Overall, our stay at this hotel was very good. The breakfast buffet was excellent - the best we had in our three week tour of Tuscany and Umbria. Staff was cordial but didn't go out of their way to be helpful.

Review 42:The hotel was well situated in the center of the city. The views from the very large balconies of our room and our friend's room were spectacular, ours overlooked the city and our friends faced the countryside. The room was large with a modern bathroom and excellent shower. The breakfast buffet was very good, typical of a 4 star hotel. The hotel suggested a restaurant which had outstanding food.

Review 43:With Country Walkers, we had no input into where we were staying. We would have chosen a hotel with bigger rooms and better accomodations.

Review 44:Centrally located, nice views

Review 45:WiFi was limited to the public rooms only.

Review 46:It is in the center, within steps of all the sights. The room was spacious with two large windows and a nice sized bathroom. The breakfast was generous and offered a good selection.

Review 47:Parking could be problematic but they took good care of us!

Review 48:Everything was perfect! Wonderful location! We had a great room and the view from our balcony was spectacular! The breakfast was great apart from the coffee and fruit juice machines as opposed to steam infused coffee and freshly squeezed juice. The desk staff was great---Paola!

Review 49:Everything was wonderful about the Grand Hotel Italia!

Review 50:Marvelous 17th century structure completely renovated and modernized into a wonderful hotel in a great location in the center of Orvieto. The included breakfast was more than ample and very filling. Staff is extremely courteous and helpful in recommending restaurants that are favorites of the community.

Review 51:very noisy you could hear the lift arriving, people walking in corridors. Breakfast was not at a 4* standard (running out of eggs during breakfast time, coffee machine broke down...); only one international TV channel.

Review 52:location very central to the Orvieto city.

Review 53:How this hotel can be graded 4-star is a mystery, here's why: (1) Nobody to help with getting suitcases to room, which included having to lug them up a flight of stairs; (2) Toilet seat much too small for bowl leaving an unsightly gap and precarious sitting position; (3) Decor must date from the 1980's! (4) Showering without "flooding" the floor is impossible; (5) Breakfast is an affair in a stuffy room with only self help machines for coffee; (6) Bedroom walls paper thin which was exacerbated by rowdy guests.

Review 54:Location and size of room.

Review 55:Parking available is only for 'very small' cars. I did not know this as I rolled up in a 15-year-old Mercedes E-klasse SW. Luckily I could park with a friend instead.

Review 56:Excellent central location, good air-conditioning and internet facility

Review 57:It would be really useful if there was a hook or rail in the bathroomfor the bath towel, as the only place I could put it was the chair inthe room. It is also a common practice in hotels these days forcustomers to be given the choice of using towels again (forenvironmental reasons). The staff did not come across as particularly welcoming - perhaps the very hot weather was making everyone a bit grumpy. The constant walking around in the breakfast room made me nervous. One major thing that was missing was information in the welcome pack. My confusion about breakfast time could have been made clear and there should have been tourist information about the main places to see, where to eat and how to get to other places in the city and in the wider area.

Review 58:My room was a little bigger than I expected, and was comfortable andclean. It was a good location, close to the main tourist attractions.

Review 59:Appallingly narrow access to the so called car park. Only suitable for small cars we incurred damage to our car when trying to leave . The staff were very casual and disinterested.

Review 60:The hotel was in a good position for visiting the town.

Review 61:We thought the bed was a little hard, and the 12-hour allotments of free wi-fi time were a hassle, but the stay was very pleasant. We stayed for 6 nights and enjoyed it.

Review 62:We loved the location, the rooms were quite spacious and warm. The bed was fairly comfortable, but the bathroom was spacious and a welcome site for a couple coming from Firenze. The outdoor patio on the third floor was also quite nice

Review 63:Breakfast was fair for a four star hotel

Review 64:The location of the hotel is very central, on a narrow lane off the mainstreet. The bedroom was comfortable, bright and spacious and we had anamazing view from the balcony across the valley below. The staff werehelpful and friendly.

Review 65:Front desk staff was very unfriendly when we arrived. During the check-in the lady was grumpy and unfriendly; as if she was unhappy to see us there.

Review 66:Location

Review 67:I found this hotel to have great value for a single room. I needed a room for one night at the last minutes, and usually the single rooms are the forgotten stepchild in hotels, this was not. Plenty of room, nice view, good internet, and great value at 65E per night. Breakfast was plentiful, and I wished I had more time to spend there.

Review 68:Everything

Review 69:It was horrible

Review 70:Good location

Review 71:Orvieto is an EXCELLENT hub to get easy access to other cities. We had easy connections to Assisi and Siena.

Review 72:no easy access by car, but we knew that.

Review 73:first class hotel.

Review 74:This is the perfect location for exploring and enjoying the hilltop town of Orvieto.

Review 75:Love the terraces in our room and the views around the hotel.

Review 76:breakfast was very poor, room not very well cleaned, staff on front desk not always able to speak anything but Italian.

Review 77:central location.

Review 78:Loved our visit to Orvieto. Slept well and enjoyed the breakfast. Front desk very friendly and helpful.

Review 79:Although in a mountain town, the hotel was located right in the center of town. Very convenient, very helpful staff.

Review 80:Poor breakfast for the price, no eggs, no bacon.

Review 81:Quiet and friendly.

Review 82:Convenience, quiet, helpful staff

Review 83:Great location. Nice clean hotel.

Review 84:Noisy room & staff could learn to smile.

Review 85:Central location.

Review 86:No parking Breakfast subpar Air cond. does not work well Rooms not comfortable Bathrooms with tiny showers

Review 87:Close to sights

Review 88:Location and it's a great Hotel

Review 89:A quality hotel in the middle of the town, very convenient to visit the sights.

Review 90:Breakfast

Review 91:King size bed

Review 92:terrific clockbell on the Torre outside my window: every bloody 15 minutes for 24 -'hours. Though, is not responsibility of hotel.
