Reviews for Bab Al Shams Desert Resort and Spa
Review 1:Location not very good. Staff ok but not overfriendly. Expensive and not good standard for prices. We will not visit again. Rooms very small and level of luxury poor.
Review 2:Didnt enjoy resort at all. Food adequate but overpriced. Staff were ok but not overly friendly. We have visited Casa al sarab another desert resort on a few occasions and sadly this resort in dubai does not come anywhere close to it. Dissapointed.
Review 3:Poor service. Arrived 40 min before the spa closes and the guy did not want to let us in. Waited 30 min to be sitted To the restaurant. Very poor service and too expenive. Dont waiste your money there.
Review 4:Expensive for the level of service and facilities. Waited more than 30 min for the restaurant to be sitted.cold rooms.i dont recommend the hotel. Its very touristy.
Review 5:Italian restaurant meal was extremely average. Bedrooms are too dark and bathrooms are showing their age.
Review 6:Wonderful swimming pool complex and excellent buffet breakfasts.
Review 7:Everything was ok, but its not suitable for elderly people, no elevators and you have to take long walk to reach the room. And it is really expensive, but for me it worth the try.
Review 8:Very nice place to relax, specially in winter The resort is in the desert, so in summer it would be very hot to enjoy it. The decoration is an old arabic style, looking dusty but in fact its clean
Review 9:Al Hadeerah was a little expensive for children and not enough heaters as it was quite cold which made it difficult to stay for long.
Review 10:Wonderful resort. Staff are amazing without exception. We can't wait to go back.
Review 11:Went to the resort with our children for just a few days - so disappointed and even ended up leaving early! Second day my son went down with a really upset tummy and following day after lunch in the same restaurant my daughter was also very ill. Spent the rest of the day with her in the room with terrible tummy cramps and upset tummy. So went home! When checking out the man on reception asked why we were leaving early so I explained. I paid my bill in full as wasn't trying to pull a fast one - just thought that they should know of our problems. Duty Manager came over and his words were 'you can't prove a thing!!!!' Unbelievable attitude!
Review 12:the whole hotel is artificial and the rooms are good, but not fantastic.
Review 13:really nice to spend a night in the desert, to watch the sunset and sunrise is fantastic. the hotel has a falcon show and complimentary camel, horse rides. the pool is great for kids, food is excellent.
Review 14:I would not recommend this place, this was for our honeymoon and we note that comment when we did the booking but they did nothing ! Very dissapointing when visiting a 5 stars hôtel. For 1500AED the night this is just unacceptable. As it was early Check in the person at the réception told us to wait approx 1hour at the pool and that he will call us when the room is ready... Im still waiting for his call... 5 persons from the staff came and knocked at our door for no reason While we just wanted to relax. No SPA where we can relax in pool or jacuzzi only massage upon reservation. No privacy, workers walking in the garden While you have breakfast outside. Very bad food at the restaurant. Honestly dont waste your money and go somewhere else !
Review 15:The price is very high for what you get compared to other hotels and with tax on top it is very expensive. The breakfast buffet has been reduced in size and quality since our last visit. We are always given a room which overlooks the car park and it is often very noisy early in the mornings. As a repeat visitor I would have liked to have been given a room in a nicer location.
Review 16:The resort is lovely and peaceful with good facilities and authentic rooms
Review 17:the "desert safari tour" - a huge disspointment an expensive tour just for 5-10 minutes on the dunes ride , which I really wouldnn´t even call dunes .. The rest of the time the car was driven on flat ground... The qualtiy of the food in the Arabic restaturant does not relate at all to its price
Review 18:The hotel is really beautiful
Review 19:Couldn't really say anything, although our bed was very creaky - room 122.
Review 20:A beautiful oasis away from the city, we stayed for one night, a staycation and loved it ! Staff were excellent and service levels were tops. Although full, the place didn't feel busy and we enjoyed a sundowner on the rooftop bar, then supper at Masala ( fab courtyard and live music). Food was amazing. A nice touch, they gave us bottles of cold water for the journey home. We will come again.
Review 21:They still haven't unblocked AED4,000 deposit, despite one month of chasing. Very poor. They made us wait until the check in time, where as most hotels allow the guests to check in early if rooms are available. We dined downstairs and felt unwelcome to watch the sunset upstairs unless we booked a table for dinner.
Review 22:Tranquil. Good swim up bar.
Review 23:... too pricy for what it really is, if one looks only for the calm and beauty of the desert. Where can one go for an authentic stay if not in the desert ? The whole experience is turned into a pseudo authentic money making machine, mainly for foreign tourists.
Review 24:The thought through perfection. Everything is just spotless. Nicely built, well equipped, handsomely serviced. Yet...
Review 25:Dark rooms with no memorable or praise worthy attributes. Being allocated a room overlooking the car park before requesting a move. Bad value for morning in the treatment spa.
Review 26:Pool, sun beds and breakfast.
Review 27:Concierge was a bit stroppy when I asked if he could call a local taxi company to see if we and our luggage would fit in (rather than paying double for a hotel taxi!)
Review 28:Everything
Review 29:i booked a double room, and when i arrived and after waiting for 1 hour, they gave me a twin bed room, the next day the bathroom flooded, and the service was not good,
Review 30:Camel Ride which was complementary was a joke / location was not located within the dunes, which was disappointing / all extras were very expensive
Review 31:Pool
Review 32:Photos from Booking.com do not match with the real view of the room. We spend some time and nerves to get what we expected. It appears that the room shown in photos had been a higher class than we booked.
Review 33:Quite and comfortable place.
Review 34:The restaurants are not the best, service is so poor, the pool's design is not private enough for adults, so kids are all over the place
Review 35:The atmosphere
Review 36:Full of young families on the weekend and school holidays - avoid if you are looking for a spa retreat.
Review 37:Staff were very friendly Roof top bar and entertainment
Review 38:Pool needs attention and whole place needs a face lift as hasn't changed in years. Check in at 3 reality no room. Keys till 5 yet have to be out by 12.. Friday's a nightmare due to property being full yet still allowing day guests and loads of children.. Peace and quite on a Friday it's not the place to be..
Review 39:Friendly staff in desert location.. Comfortable rooms and excellent Indian restaurant.
Review 40:Desert drive a bit naff and expensive. Safe malfunctioned and has to be crowbared and smashed to get valuables. All inclusive limited and staff seem embarrassed if you want something off the set service but happy to pay extra.
Review 41:Relaxing by pool
Review 42:Dinner buffet can be bettered the desert is almost flat with hardly any dunes.
Review 43:Excellent facilities, temp controlled pools, pool bar, camel ride, falcon, hookah terrace, large bath tub and waffles for breakfast
Review 44:Infinity pool was closed for maintenance and 1 day advance notice was given so changes to booking couldn't be done since last minute notice was given. Called for spa treatment reservation 1 week prior to arrival and was informed that reservations could be done on spot and i informed the person im talking to that they shall be held accountable if i come all the way from my home country and do not find reservations. Once we arrived they informed us it was fully booked. Good thing i had the number for the person in charge that i have contacted.
Review 45:Away from hustle & bustle of the city. Spa manager was very helpful and emphasised on customer satisfaction. Spa manager provided late check out to make up for employees miscommunication. Spa treatment was given however not at our favourable time as they tried to squeeze us in during the evening.
Review 46:I went there to have a different experience but unfortunately surprises start, first of all the activities are a big joke the safari they talk about it is one hour drive in the desert using jeep car which costs 700 aed even you are one person what I know is Safari is to be at least couple of hours, falcons show is a one falcon which you can take a photo with
Review 47:Most of the staff and not all were polite and friendly
Review 48:found the buffet and sheisha to be average
Review 49:had an incredible stay and the staff and hotel made a real effort as they knew it was our anniversary, would highly recommend
Review 50:The main pool closure.
Review 51:The staff really make this desert gem a truly wonderful experience and separate it from any other similar resort. The food was exceptional and the couples massage is a must!!
Review 52:Food was very good but not amazing which is being very picky but if I had to find a flaw then that was it. We didn't visit the Arabian restaurant though which is apparently amazing as we were on an all inclusive package which excluded this restaurant. However, We didn't try the Indian restaurant but were told by other guests that was exceptional.
Review 53:Loved the design, location and the fact that it was so different from the usual 5* hotels. Unique. Loved the pool bar. Loved the fact that the hotel sent us an anniversary cake and card.
Review 54:we had lots of mosquitos in the room and for anyone with a bit of allergy will suffer like me, food needs improving along with the Shisha, a bit of music by the pool wouldn't hurt as well.
Review 55:Everything is beautiful at Bab Al Shams, Rooms, pools over all vibe. no regrets and highly recommended.
Review 56:- I was expecting more from the complimentary camel ride. - Extra activities (e.g. dune bashing) way to expensive, even with the discount for guests
Review 57:Everything was amazing, in particular the food (both breakfast and dinner), the swimmingpool and the room. Wifi was also very good
Review 58:The main pool was shut due to a major leak. Super disappointing as in the summer, as none of the outdoors activities seem doable. The hotel claimed to have called every person booked during the weekend, but we didn't get any heads up. Same with a lot of others staying at the resort. The family pool was open but it's too small and was crowded by kids. I organized a surprise cake for my better half, as we were there for his birthday but they didn't have it ready by check-in. So they decided to come up to him at Al Forsan during breakfast and ask him if he'd like his cake bought out. Final nail in the coffin, totally regret booking Bab Al Shams. After informing in their manager about all the disappointments, he was apologetic but I would imagine a 5 star under the Jumeirah brand to take better care of their guests.
Review 59:The room is very traditional, with great wooden furniture. The bathrooms are nice and big with good lighting. We had breakfast at Al Forsan which was good, minimum selection compared to other 5 stars. This works better I think since everything is good, quality over quantity. Al Sarab is nice for sun-downers, great live music but gets boring after a while since its not live just recorded music with a live singer. Dinner at Masala was the highlight, great food and wine selection. Nice to see a number of the Sula wines on the list. They accompany Indian food really well. Entertainer vouchers accepted for main-course.
Review 60:We were no informed on the phone that the infinity pool (main attraction) was under maintenance. The hotel was kind enough to send to the room a complimentary bottle for apologising. This was a nice touch. We paid for 2 breakfasts to be included and it did not appear in the hotel system. This made the checkin process a bit more tedious. Also, please inform your clients of the falcon show timings. We waited with no luck. Make sure that checkout process synchronises with valet and luggages collection from the room. Finally, memorise client name to give it a more personalised treatment. The hotel staff uses to be more welcoming and warm back in 2005.
Review 61:The location is amazing. One of the best hotels to relax in Dubai and get this Arabia vibe. The hotel was kind enough to allow us a late checkout. This comes rarely these days and we really appreciated it. Thanks for this.
Review 62:The room key was not working and the staff took our key however never returned it and fixed the problem. We would appreciate if the room keys are checked and are working properly.
Review 63:The room was cosy and comfortable. The location was perfect and food was good. We ate at Forsan, and the buffet had good variety. Overall good experience.
Review 64:"Zoo hour" at breakfast with far too many badly behaved, out of control "animals".......oh sorry I meant "children"!!
Review 65:Peaceful break in the midst of the desert.
Review 66:The night buffet that came with the half-board was just adequate. I would have been disappointed to pay for it. Also the front desk staff didn't know about a Dh99 special when we asked about it upon check-in, and he didn't follow up like he said he would.
Review 67:Loved the selection at breakfast, the decor of the room, the pool, horses, camels and falcons. The staff were all very friendly.
Review 68:Pool is good enough, needs maintenance. Satori Spa massage therapist was professional, but facility needs improvement (compared to other spas of the same standard)
Review 69:Staff service is Excellent
Review 70:Quality of dinner. As first guests in restaurant you expect the buffet to be hot. Majority of food was only warm and soup was bordering cold.
Review 71:Staff, facilities and attitude to children, atmosphere. Really beautiful, relaxing and peaceful resort.
Review 72:I've planned this as a brithday gift for my wife, and i've informed the resort almost 10 days in advance to have the cake and the room setup. I've also requested a babycot. I was staying for two days and I've not seen the baby cot at all even though i've asked for it 3 times. There was no cake until the second day, they spoiled the surprise by actually coming to the room and telling my wife that they need the room to prepare for her birthday
Review 73:the pool was awesome
Review 74:Good resort however more activities should be included as it is in the middle of a desert. It has huge potential to be the best but sad to see go to such a waste. Just abit of tweeking up and it could be a great place to visit.
Review 75:Prices in restaurants are ridiculous. Simple dish at Indian restaurant for 22 Euro, no rice included. Bread 5 Euro extra. Glass of average wine 0,1 for 15 Euro - come on, that's exaggerated.
Review 76:Beautiful location in the desert, great pools. Half board was good deal.
Review 77:Difficult and expensive to reach. Only one shuttle bus to one part of town, no flexibility. No organised tours of Dubai.
Review 78:Desert experience, friendly staff, relaxing atmosphere. Great desert restaurant with show
Review 79:Albeit an unfortunate short stay, the experience from the time of our arrival through to our departure was truly wonderful - a great atmosphere, extremely hospitable staff, incredible ambiance, sumptuous food and refreshing cocktails. The kids were entertained from the moment we arrived - great features, a wonderful safe pool with entertaining shower (we could not get them out). Our family shall definitely return for an extended holiday the next time we are headed for the region.
Review 80:food (oil used for preparing food must have been quite old), spotty service, extreme and uncontrolled noise of small children and and large families in the pool and restaurant facilities
Review 81:pool, room design
Review 82:Did an all inclusive deal which the staff didn't really understand so always felt like we were creating problems & felt uncomfortable. The staff had to check if we could eat there, what could we eat & we weren't allowed to take soft drinks to the room. The all inclusive deal should be explained & clear what you get or don't get,
Review 83:The hotel is really nice, has a traditional feel. Rooms are lovely.
Review 84:Felt like the room was a bit dusty - but I suppose that's understandable given that there's sand EVERYWHERE
Review 85:We loved the swimming pool and the pool bar and the walking path where we could take a leisurely stroll in the desert at night. The overall ambience was very relaxing and it was such a relief to sleep away from the noise of the city.
Review 86:I asked for two rooms with twin beds. The hotel desk wanted to give us two rooms with king size beds .... ???? We took half board - but the Al Forzan restaurant was empty - we requested our seating preference but were told to sit in specific place as the rest of the tables were reserved - - they put three groups of people next to each other ... 10pm the reserved tables were not taken. I looked out to wall of stacked plates, a kiddies high chair, and a bit bag (Im guessing for serviettes etc) - I did express my concern about the seating arrangements - but kept getting told - they are reserved. Let the payer sit were they want ! We could also not experience the cultural offerings they offer - due to it being booked out for Iftar. Also disappointing that the rooftop restaurant was closed too.
Review 87:the grounds were spectacular - cleverly designed - with oasis, themed buildings, labyrinths - and one discovered lovely features as you walked through the grounds
Review 88:Only minor dislike was that there were a family with lots of children in the restaurant and they were running wild. Very noisy and disruptive. But this was by no means a fault of the hotel.
Review 89:Staff were so attentive! Room upgrade on arrival. Beautiful suite with garden area. Pool is so peaceful and calming. Treated to a cake, patchi chocolates and fruit basket for our anniversary. Felt like I'd had a week long break when in fact it was only 2 days.
Review 90:room a little dark Reception gentlemen could be more pleasant and accommodating., felt like he had to sell or give away as little as possible
Review 91:Room, private veranda peaceful, loved the chirping of the birds Al Hadeerah restaurant staff were excellent
Review 92:The coffee and foul at breakfast were not up to standard. I think the resort was more for couples and families with children.
Review 93:The service was impeccable. Lovely resort with beautiful atmosphere.
Review 94:When we came back from our dinner we found very romantic set up in the buthtub with Rose petals. Thank you for making our Anniversary super special.
Review 95:A few, small mosquitos in the room were a nuisance and the hotel had not provided anything to deter them. The series of houses within the complex made it feel a little like a labyrinth. However, this also added to the charm.
Review 96:Hospitality and staff friendliness was very welcoming. Luxurious and authentic, it was not a faceless hotel. The evening Arabian meal and entertainment was a highlight of our week in Dubai.
Review 97:Pita likely attitude of reception staff. Smirk. Dark look. Desert aroundthe hotel as I had been assumed was not beautiful. Vegetation had beenglimpses. Excursion staff is businesslike.
Review 98:Elaborate interior. Beautiful Furniture. Comfortable pool. DeliciousItalian restaurant. Fantastic rooftop bar.
Review 99:Not a bad experience, just picked wrong resturant to eat in, just outside hotel complex, show and fireworks v good, food, arabic, not our taste.
Review 100:All of the main hotel complex and pools. Swim up bar, sat fot hours in the pool, talking with fellow guests
Review 101:The constant whistle blowing by over zealous life guards, the long faced hostess at breakfast and the fact that all the baby sitters seemed to be on holiday
Review 102:The pool lay out was excellent and staff were on the whole very friendly and helpful. Excellent kids club and activities provided for out children which was much appreciated.
Review 103:Perhaps a little bit expensive
Review 104:Liked the layout , peaceful surroundings , pools ,and evening feast at nearby location was exceptional ! Staff helpful and polite
Review 105:The front of house staff are dreadful. Checkout took 40 minutes, we were the only people checking out. On arrival they had blocked a ludicrously high amount on my credit card. Our total bull was much less. I am still awaiting a refund.
Review 106:The pools a drooms
Review 107:There are some differences between what is presented on the Booking.com site and reality. We booked a Junior suite with desert view and private balcony, however, when they gave us the room, the view was to the parking in front of hotel and no balcony, only a terrace where anybody could come from outside. We declined the room based on our request and thanks to all the reception staff and the manager, we got a very nice suite with desert view and private balcony, as it was presented on the site. However, the receptionist told us that this is an upgrade and not the original room. They didn't charge us for upgrade, however, on the site should be presented in detail all these issues, to avoid confusions. A little overpriced everything.
Review 108:The hotel lays about 40 km outside Dubai, so it is far away from the main attractions. However, the area is very quiet and populated with deer, which is quite strange. Very helpful and kind staff who strives to make our stay enjoyable. Excellent room service providing a romantic presentation of breakfast or dinner. Welcome drink on arrival. Nice swimming pool, bars and restaurants. Very interesting and original idea to build the hotel in old house Arabic style. Very good facilities outside. Large suite, large bathroom, two toilets. Possibility to ride horse, camels or to have a trip on the sand dunes by 4x4 car at an additional price. Free camel ride and hawk show only for pictures.
Review 109:We were not advised that Al-Hadira was closed for a private function. We had specifically stopped over in Dubai to have dinner at the restaurant and were very disappointed. The staff can be more friendly at the reception.
Review 110:The poolside is very relaxing with and excellent menu of food and drinks.
Review 111:We found a dead bird front of our balcony... Please keep it clean...
Review 112:Staffs are very nice and welcome to help us. Our room is very comfortable and alabic style. Pool is massive. We want to come back..:)
Review 113:Free camel ride and falcon show are overhyped. Staying is more pleasent in higher cat rooms.
Review 114:Proximity to plain desert, indian restaurent with live music and choice of other restaurents. Pool is nice as well as staff.
Review 115:Slightly disappointed with the food at Hadeerah, also disappointed that there no candlelights/tealights on our table. At one point, when the lights were turned off, for the butterfly dancers .. we couldn't see anything on our plate!! The fireworks were beautiful and it truly became the highlight of the evening.
Review 116:Loved the ambience and seclusion of the property. The location felt like it was right out of a tale from the Arabian Nights...everything was perfect. We stayed there for our wedding anniversary and the hotel made our stay very memorable.
Review 117:swimming pool not cleaned properly, room sofa's very dirty. Lighting in the room was not adequate. Incest were in the room. Need to mention that hospitality of your restaurant "Masala" was very poor.
Review 118:Al Sarab and Al Forsan was excellent
Review 119:I was very upset with the check in situation. Not only did we have to wait 30mins to check in. But the receptionist (yohan) caused a situation that really wasn't nesissary and really spoilt the first day of our stay.
Review 120:The service was appalling, from checking in, to being told constantly that we weren't on the system, ordering food and drinks which didn't arrive. Shame, as it always was one of my favourite hotels, they really need to train their staff.
Review 121:The pools and the rooms
Review 122:The room service takes long time. I requested for extra water at 2:45pm, we only got it at 6:45pm.
Review 123:The location and the design is excellent. Let you feel UAE building style of our old cities.
Review 124:Expensive.
Review 125:Staff were very supportive. Was travelling with kids, and the checkin staff upgraded us from Junior Suite to Delux suite; which was awesome. Kids friendly place with activities to engage.
Review 126:The overall atmosphere of staying at this architectural jewel in the desert! Just loved the old world charm, the beautiful pools, walking around through the narrow walkways and along the desert, the illumination at night, the great restaurants, the musical entertainment, the camel rides, the falcons, the unbelievable service, always making us feel so special! We loved the whole experience and can't wait to return!!!!!
Review 127:The dinner show is a bit of a joke, my compliment go to the band who managed to perform much better than the so called performers. Sheep should be sleeping at night and not used for simple entertainment. This is way overpriced. Noisy band on the rooftop could be heard all night long until around 2-3 AM. Peace and quiet is what we expect from the desert.
Review 128:Driving around the desert to view the Persian Gazelles in action. This is next to the hotel and not many people know of this attraction. Which is probably good as it gives the animals less stress from strangers.
Review 129:The only negative review is that it's a bit overpriced- the hadeerah dinner was 500 dirhams excluding alcohol.. And the breakfast was 130 per person.. So it's somewhat overpriced..
Review 130:I went with my fiancé to celebrate his birthday. It was such a relaxing getaway, and a fun experience. The pool is amazing, and there's something to do for every part of the day - pool during the day, sunset drinks at the rooftop, and a fun night at al hadeerah with lots of entertainment.
Review 131:the food of the restaurants particularly Al Hadheera and the price of the buffet was just exaggerating for a normal show of the Arabic dancers. Nothing was innovative to pay 450 per person for the buffet.
Review 132:the typical arabian architecture of the place is just stunning
Review 133:The sink kept clogging in room 165, and the toilet looked dirty. the wifi would not connect and when it did it disconnected fast. The portions of the food are way to big.
Review 134:The atmosphere was lovely and the staff were great
Review 135:The fact that no sunshine enters the room The pigeon noise and the loud music from al Forsan The Lebanese food was not great at al Forsan
Review 136:I liked the ambiance and the architecture of the resort, how we get lost when we go from one place to another, the room decor, the pool, and he camel ride, the firework Nice breakfast
Review 137:After an excursion,we took a taxi from Abu Dhabi back to Bab Al Shams and the driver took us the long way home i.e via Dubai which was twice as long and expensive! He claimed not to no about the new road and it turned into quite an argument. Taxi drivers don't really know about the place although they will claim that they do.
Review 138:The staff were wonderful and so helpful and friendly. The place is beautiful!!
Review 139:Not a true desert experience, mainly arid rather than dunes. Very over priced and poor quality for a resort that is supposed to be 5 star luxury. Really disappointed in the overall service and attention to detail.
Review 140:Lovely pool and pool area overlooking the desert. Well appointed rooms, traditional feel and comfortable.
Review 141:Very poor welcome during checkin and checkout. Sent fake upgrade room with discount 2 weeks before.. Waiting 2 hours our room with young children (arrived at 3 pl).....
Review 142:Nice facilities
