Reviews for Hotel Souvenir

Review 1:Stairs up. But we understand it's an old building plus the porter was really nice to help us with our luggage. So it was no issue!

Review 2:Loved the balcony overlooking the place and serenity. Staff was super friendly and proactive - we informed we will be checking out real early in the morning and they pre-packed breakfast for us!

Review 3:The location was wonderful. It was close to everything in the village. The room was decorated beautifully, the linens were very nice and the bathroom was wonderful. We opted for a Jr. suite and felt it was a good choice for the extra fee.

Review 4:No elevator and a bit of walk from the train station but once you get your bags there everything in old town is a short walk.

Review 5:Nice size clean room in a great location. Liked the roof top patio. The breakfast was very good. With one exception the staff was very helpful

Review 6:Beautiful property, great location. After spending 5 days in Monterosso, we agreed that Hotel Souvenir was the best place and location we saw while we were there.

Review 7:A little far from train station but not too far to walk.

Review 8:Nice room and in a Great area! Close to shops and restaurants. Loved the patio area for breakfast.

Review 9:The staff were so very accommodating. Joseph was a treasure and so very helpful. We loved the quiet outdoor patio surrounded by lovely flowers. It was so nice to enjoy a glass of wine at the end of our busy day of exploring. The room we had was small, but clean and had everything we needed for our stay. The location was great in the old beautiful section of Monterosso. Lots of cafes and shops in the immediate area. We would most definitely stay here again.

Review 10:Location wonderful, staff pleasant, breakfast superb! Stayed in older building, quaint but needs a little upgrading, but on saying that loved our stay

Review 11:The staff was friendly and helpful, the breakfast contained a wide variety of selections including freshly made omelettes, and the location was great. I would highly recommend this hotel!

Review 12:The hotel needs to train their staff better.1. Charged me wrong amount on my credit card 2. Email back and forth was a nightmare. They miss your emails and write very little omitting important informatoin Also, they need to improve their security. We left our luggage at the hotel on the last day. They just put out bags in a big storage room without name tags. They do not keep track of the luggage, which means when we came back, we could pick up ANY luggage if we wanted.

Review 13:It was very clean. The location was a little hard to find and there issome walking to do from the center of the city, but being one of a fewaccommodation in the area, I thought that was acceptable.

Review 14:Basic room - very old, heaps of stairs to get to room, old bathroom with a TINY shower, wifi extremely poor strength.

Review 15:Great location, yummy brekky, helpful staff.

Review 16:No AC in the room, no mosquito nets on the windows. It was terribly hot and impossible to sleep. Only one electric socket in the room, and a fan. The bathroom was very small and old and smelly(coming from the sewage probably) otherwise it was really clean.

Review 17:Beautiful courtyard with flowers overlooking the mountains. Decent breakfast Good location

Review 18:Friendly staff who cared about preparing us breakfast before an early morning check out. They had clean beach towels, umbrellas and books in the lobby for their guests. We had a wonderful stay!

Review 19:Not really enough storage space in a room for 3/4 people, only one cupboard with a bit of hanging space and a drawer either side of the bed, no bathroom storage, so we ended up living out of the suitcase more than we would have liked. Wifi was a bit intermittent. But still overall very happy with our stay.

Review 20:Great location, excellent service. They were very helpful when we arrived and departed with 2 young children, there are steps up to the hotel and the room and they helped us up and down with bags and stroller. Baby cot was made up when we arrived, high chairs provided for breakfast. New, modern hotel, good aircon, clean, nice breakfast. Great location, right in the centre of Monterosso but just away from the noise, up a little side street.

Review 21:Our rooms were a bit small. We were there during hot weather and there was a fan but no air conditioning in the rooms.

Review 22:Lovely outdoor courtyard. Very well presented.

Review 23:We loved this hotel and will definitely come back. The staff was very accommodating from beginning to end. Loved the little library and the fact that they packed a little breakfast bag for us as we had to check out so early. The room was spacious-- so rare in Italy -- comfortable bed. The renovations after the flood were absolutely beautiful. Very modern!

Review 24:The bathroom was very small but it was clean. The room is very noisy at night.

Review 25:The recepcionist was very helpful and nice. The room was clean, it was very close to the coast. The breakfast was very good.

Review 26:Excellent helpful staff who went out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed and were happy. Great location in the old part of town with shops and cafés all near.

Review 27:Travelers should be aware that the CT is hilly, and you need to walk up a hill and some steps to reach the hotel, and more steps to your room. This was not a negative for us, but just be aware that it's an issue.

Review 28:We arrived from the train station hot and tired after a long day of touring and travel, and the staff couldn't have been nicer offering a complimentary beer or wine to each of us. The room I had booked for my kids was not available for the first night, and they were very apologetic that they would have to move during our stay. The staff did all the moving of the luggage of course, and separated the bed into a pair of twins for them. Also, they have beach mats and towels for the use of their guests, a really nice amenity.

Review 29:Lovely hotel nestled in a very quiet spot 5 minutes from the beach in Monterosso. There is a great terrace where you can sit and relax with guests. Very helpful staff, great daily breakfast and room cleaning everyday too. We had a great stay!

Review 30:If you are coming to monterosso in the heat of summer, this place has no A/C. You might think that's ok, but there was a cloud of hot air that never left the room. From the hallway it went up a good 3 or 4 degrees. There was a standing fan in the room, but the cord didn't let it reach the window to blow air in from outside. The heat alone made our visit sub-par, it was otherwise satisfactory.

Review 31:Breakfast facilities.

Review 32:The staff went above and beyond the call of duty. The location was quiet but central. Sitting in the afternoon with a drink enjoying the cool breeze in 35 degree heat.

Review 33:No air conditioning.

Review 34:I was upgraded and received a room with a balcony and view (not of the ocean.) It was very clean, quiet and quite spacious for 1-2 people. However I did see some of the smaller rooms without a balcony and would have been disappointed with the price I paid should I have received one of those, but prices seems high everywhere in cinque terre at peak summer. A fan was provided to assist with the heat! Excellent location and easy to find from the train station.

Review 35:Wifi in the rooms wasn't great. However, in the lobby it was fine. Everything else was great! Very clean, modern, and comfortable! Extremely friendly and helpful staff as well

Review 36:Please mention the hotel sits in Old Town. Arriving late at night this was such a pleasant surprise!!

Review 37:Refurbished rooms. Substantial breakfast...ask for an omelette!!

Review 38:We absolutely loved this hotel and were pleasantly surprised by how modern it was. It took us a while to locate the hotel itself as it was tucked away from the main street. We had an absolutely lovely stay here and loved everything from the layout of the room to the balcony that opened up onto the street.

Review 39:What's not to like about this place?

Review 40:The staff is great! Otherwise The hotel is great in everyway. Make sure you get a rom with AC, that helps in The summertime. We has the junior suite which was great!

Review 41:I didn't like that we were on the top floor. As we are seniors walking up to the to floor was very difficult most of the time. Would have preferred the younger fitter people to do the stairs

Review 42:Bed was very comfortable breakfast very good. Staff were lovely. Young man carried my luggage up the stairs.

Review 43:You definitely get decent value for money here. The reception during the morning and day are very helpful. The bar offers very cold and reasonably priced water bottles to buy if you're avoiding tap water.

Review 44:The staff could't of been nicer to our group! They accommodated our requests, carried our luggage up 3 flights of stairs to our rooms, and had a perfect breakfast! Gardens were beautiful and well kept. Great location to walk the town!

Review 45:Real Italian coffee at breakfast would have been so nice. The machines are convenient, but it just isn't the same. Italian hotels don't tend to have much storage space in the bathrooms. Such was the case here. The bathroom seems large enough to add a shelf or two on the wall.

Review 46:A/C was amazing. We actually got cold at night... in 36C weather. Breakfast on the terrace was a pleasant way to start the day Staff were so helpful--they liaised with our boat driver prior to our sea excursion, they called us a taxi to the train station upon check-out, they brought me the fews things I neglected to pack from the refrigerator (like my medecine!) as I was checking out. Thank you! Bright, clean room and bathroom. All appeared recently renovated. Spacious terrace with a great view and small laundry drying rack.

Review 47:Only fault was having to park one kilometre up the road. Town carpark full + new one which is sorely needed has been under construction for 5 years!

Review 48:The location was perfect. Relaxation areas and rooftop terrace really good albeit up many stairs - but stairs and steps are the charm of the town.

Review 49:Room a bit small.

Review 50:Location in Monterosso's Old Town was great. Great breakfast. Reasonable priced bottled wine. Very modern. Helpful staff. Close to beach, and situated near all the restaurants and shops.

Review 51:Rooms were cramped and no elevators make it difficult for some.

Review 52:Open courtyard area, terrace and garden were lovely. Great location in the old town and close to everything. Breakfast very good includes omelets. Bar service very pleasant, convenient and reasonable.

Review 53:It would have helped to know that as soon as you get out of the train station, turn left and keep walking! You get what you pay for, its one of the most remote (although the town is very small) so you do not see the beach or water (not from where we were). However, everything else made up for this.

Review 54:Brand new facilities, exceptionally clean and made so each day. The breakfast was excellent. Wifi was responsive.

Review 55:Awesome staff! Francesca and others were so helpful. Great views from rooftop terrace. Quiet at night. Great restaurant recommendations from staff. Would definitely recommend and would stay again.

Review 56:Hotel staff were so great and accommodating. It was a great hotel and place to base ourselves for 4 days and do all the Cinque Terra cities. A bit of a walk from the station but overall flat. We had big suit cases but very fit so found no issue walking there and liked that we were off the beaten track. Was nervous it might be up lots of steps but wasn't. Clean small but great hotel for what we wanted.

Review 57:Amazingly delicious breakfast, super helpful and friendly staff, great location, free wifi, great views. Rooms were basic but had everything we needed. Would go back!

Review 58:The hotel can't be reached by carThis is something guest should know in ADVANCE. Moreover, the hotel should tell the guests where to park, or have an arrangement with any parking lot.

Review 59:Our room (brand new) was perfect, neat, good size, etc The bellman excellent character and very very helpful

Review 60:Nothing. All good.

Review 61:Upgraded to a balcony room with a great view. Daniel and Josef were friendly and helped with baggage, train times and always with a real smile. Breakfast great and eaten on the terrace among flowers and sunshine.

Review 62:The rooms are very small. No coffee or fridge in rooms.

Review 63:The breakfast was fantastic, the service was good. James was always so helpful. Lovely outdoor area to just relax.

Review 64:- smallest room we have ever stayed in. Two larger persons could not have stayed here, without one having to stand outside when the other moved around - bathroom also tiny! One could wash hands. shower feet and do your business all at the same time. A large person would not fit in the shower

Review 65:- nice location, friendly staff - lovely breakfast area and nice outside bar

Review 66:Friendly staff, good breakfast with made-to-order egg selections and the best cappuccino machine we found. They have several nice outdoor sitting spots. There is no sea view but it's location in the heart of Old Town is out of the crowds and perfect for cafes and shops. It is a doable walk from the train station with luggage. We had a recently remoldeled room with a great bath. I can't speak for their standard room.

Review 67:Our room was upgraded to a junior suite but the room was still very small.

Review 68:The staff was very helpful. Room was clean and tidy upon arrival, nice location with many restaurants just around the corner. We went for lunch at a restaurant just around the corner (didn't know what the name was) but the food was fantastic! The lady couldn't speak english so we randomly ordered off the menu but, my, it was one of the best honest italian pastas we've ever had!!

Review 69:Internet only available in the lounge.it round ve good if it's available in all room.

Review 70:All the staff very pleasant.breakfast is good. And cleanliness is excellent.

Review 71:It was in the old historic side within walking distance to the station and to the start of the Cinque Terre route. James stayed up for our late arrival and was very helpful too.

Review 72:Wifi broken in rooms. Wifi worked okay in lobby.

Review 73:Staff very friendly. Quiet location, nice breakfast, clean, comfortable, but small room. Beds rather firm and comfortable. Good heat on cool nights. Pet friendly.

Review 74:I can't think of a thing I didn't like.

Review 75:We enjoyed everything! Staff, comfort, accessibility, and the breakfast was the best I've had in italy yet.

Review 76:Difficult to be critical of this location. Small room, small bathroom. Typical Italian-firm bed.

Review 77:Very clean room. Courteous friendly staff. Great location in old Monterosso. No cars. Park up the street (100 m or so) in a covered garage. Diverse, generous fresh breakfast buffet. (PLUS, they offer to cook other menu items for you - like an omelet!) We'd definitely return to the Hotel Souvenir. Great value.

Review 78:Weak and unreliable wifi the 3 days I was there. The room was very cramped/small, however it was only me, so it didn't matter. I was the only one in the hotel for the first 2 days and so there was little to choose for breakfast :( This hotel was advertised through booking.com as having views to the ocean, which it didn't.

Review 79:The decor - newly refurbished. The room was always cleaned impeccably. Excellent location to cafes, bars etc James the concierge, was so friendly and cooperative - nothing was too much effort for him-! I had a small, but useable balcony

Review 80:They are 12 rooms in a new building and 12 rooms in an old building without elevator. We were in the old building in a room on the third floor also without wifi. The walls are made from cardboard and so we couldn't sleep till 1 o'clock in the night. We could hear everything in the bathroom of the neighbours. €120 / night ( included 2 breakfasts ) for a room of 10m2 is a theft in this hotel. After our complaints we received a greater room with wifi and with a terrace for the same price, but the problems with the walls of cardboard remains. The breakfast was sizable but the bread was from the day before. Conclusion : don't accept a room in the old building : it's always a theft !!

Review 81:The location and hygiene are good and the staff is very kind.

Review 82:Room was small, but adequate. Could upgrade to larger room, but chose not to. So overall, no real issue.

Review 83:Location, great breakfast - omelette made upon request, cleanliness, all staff very helpful and friendly.

Review 84:Nothng

Review 85:Hotel Souvenir is a comfortable and cozy place. We are very grateful for the hospitality offered by Danielle and his team, especially the night for all the guests when they arranged dinner on a very short notice during an impending storm

Review 86:Rooms were smallish but absolutely fine for what we were after, very very clean, new funky interior, all staff were lovely. Would definitely recommend to others

Review 87:Only recommendation I could make is to have a larger sign directing you to hotel, we passed it several times

Review 88:Room was clean and the terrace was divine, breakfast was very good, large selection, great staff, such a quaint area. I loved this hotel!!

Review 89:Nothing.

Review 90:We stayed in the new wing of the hotel. Our room was spacious, well-appointed, quiet, with nice amenities and clean. Room appeared to be nearly brand new with an Ikea furnishing sense. Great shower, very good breakfast, and right in the center of Monterosso.

Review 91:The room was very simple, nothing like in the pictures. It was lookingthe same, with the same furniture, but very shabby, the bathroom doorwas broken, and looked 50 years old, there was mold in the shower, onthe walls, on the curtain, on the ceiling. The paint was poor, like aroom in a hostel, for maxmum of 50 euro per night, not 100 like we paid. When they finally moved us to another room, they wanted extra money, though they agreed the room was not good eough, and does not meet theirstandards. Our friends who were with us oredered a similar room andsuffered the same problem. Many stairs lead to the hotel, and you cannotget there by car, so you need to carry your luggage a long way. Nobodyhelps you when you leave, just when you come.

Review 92:The staff's good will to help when they realized how poor the roomwas. Yet, they did not cover the expenses and we ended up paying muchmore that this hotel deserves.

Review 93:The hotel is modern and facilities great. Location is in a quiet area of the old part of the town and is a bit of a walk from the station but all on level ground. Staff were really helpful.

Review 94:No elevators, however the staff asked us if we would like them to bring up the bags:).

Review 95:Very very nice hotel. Very friendly staff that upgrated us to a junior suite, huge clean rooms in light colours with plenty of fresh towels every day, the breakfast was better than you can expect from a 2-star hotel. I will definitively recommend this hotel:):).

Review 96:Rooms were a bit small but excellent value for the price.

Review 97:Overall great hotel. The staff was very friendly and the room was clean. Location was very convenient.

Review 98:It wasn't the hotel experience we thought we'd want initially - almost was too formal/business-like in a more rustic/natural area of Cinque Terre. We were looking for a more "Italian" vibe but booked too late to be choosey. We were happy with the results despite the change to our initial thinking.

Review 99:My phone charger broke during our visit and I couldn't use my cell phone so the staff charged it for me at their desk; that was an extra that I'll not soon forget. They were always happy to help with directions, too.

Review 100:The air conditioning runs with sound of water all night. Room was like a hamster cage. Small with a bed that takes up most of the space.

Review 101:Staff was great and served an nice breakfast. The hotel is in a very central location.

Review 102:LOCATION was excellent, once you walked to the old town. We came in by train, so 10 walk with way too much luggage challenging. Once there, you could not beat the location. Staff was excellent at helping us with directions and sightseeing suggestions.

Review 103:Standard room little tight, wifi best in common area

Review 104:Friendly, service oriented, breakfast good, staff had personal touch, Daniel was terrific, nice patio area. We recommend it Jim & barb. Sept 2015

Review 105:It is better for the host to send out the guideline about how to find their hotel to the custoner in advance.

Review 106:The staff is good. The food is delicious and rich。 They have a small garden and the view is good.

Review 107:Daniel was a great host and the location beyond the busy streets was so much quieter than other places we have stayed in Monterosso. The breakfast was excellent and the bar was a great addition to sitting in the courtyard reading and writing and having an afternoon cocktail!

Review 108:Not impressed with linens. But that is just how it is in Italy

Review 109:Great friendly staff Nice daily breakfast with coffee Awesome patio with bar and happy hour

Review 110:Just a bit of a pain getting from station to the hotel with lots of bags, but that is part of the charm of Cinque Terre!

Review 111:Just off the main road with restaurants and bars. Quiet hotel and very modern decoration. Nice spacious room (we had a junior suite). Great bathroom and cleaned every day. Travelling with a young child and they provided a cot and were really friendly and helpful with her including at meal times.

Review 112:The only negative thing I could say about Hotel Souvenir is that there was insufficient insulation & on occasion I was aware of other guests coming in & making some noise. I was also aware of adjoining rooms using the shower.

Review 113:I liked the warm, friendly welcome. The staff were all very friendly & helpful. Rooms were immaculate & breakfast was excellent. More than I had expected from a 2star hotel.

Review 114:So quaint, so fun, so central, so easy to get to, We loved the location of the hotel, the town of Montarosa was charming and had a variety of restaurants and so close to the ocean, the train station, many choices of activities, loved it, loved it.

Review 115:We had an economy room (€100) and it was very cramped with a tiny bathroom and no balcony. OK for one night, but it might be worthwhile paying more if one is looking for comfort.

Review 116:Location in the centre of Monterossa but on a side street so no noise. Wonderful breakfast in a lovely cadre.

Review 117:Beds were comfortable and hotel was clean. Located in a garden away from the main road so it was nice and quiet. Wish we were able to stay longer. Good showers too.

Review 118:Beautiful well run family hotel located in a great spot just off the main street, and convenient to everything. 15 mins casual walk from the station Staff excellent, helpful, friendly and very accomodating. Breakfasts - amazing selection Rooms comfortable Highly recommended !

Review 119:Room was a little cramped and there are a lot of steps.

Review 120:Our train was late and not only did James wake up at 3am to let us in but we found out that he was the chef and made the most delicious breakfast the next morning. The complimentary breakfast was incredible. Beautiful hotel - very nice common areas especially the court yard. Free Wi-Fi in the common area.

Review 121:No aircon, small and dark room, very poor bed (It was very difficult for me to sleep). Also very hard to find (the street is not on Google maps) and there were no instructions from the hotel (we had to ask locals). Definitely overpriced, not a good value for a money.

Review 122:Very good breakfast and nice staff, amazing location, clean. Apart from crowing rooster in the morning very quiet.

Review 123:We enjoyed that the location was near a good group of restaurants and a grocery store. The wifi was stronger than most places we stayed at in Italy. They had a nice bar and great staff.

The Fine Print
