Reviews for Hotel Austria - Wien

Review 1:Not a deal breaker, but the hotel should install small ramps going from the lobby into the reception area as well as another two going from the reception into the lift lobby. It would certainly make lugging large suitcases in and out of the hotel much easier for weaker or older travelers.

Review 2:Staff, location and the character of the property.

Review 3:It was a challenge getting the car close to the hotel with the many one way streets but that is a small price to pay for a great location

Review 4:A beautiful place to stay in the heart of Vienna.

Review 5:Great location, fantastic rooms, excellent breakfast, fabulous staff, bloody amazing beds (17yo's input). If lucky enough to come back to Vienna, will definitely stay here.

Review 6:None.

Review 7:Everything! From facilities to customer service to breakfast to location, everything about this property is perfect by my standard. I would definitely book again here when I visit Vienna for a longer duration.

Review 8:Breakfast selection coulf have been bigger, heating could have been switched on during the day too.

Review 9:Location, lovely hotel, it had everything you need as a guest

Review 10:Great location and a short walk to any destination inside the ring. Staff was nice and the breakfast was just the thing before a day of touring. Would stay again in a second.

Review 11:The room it is not advertised as being the poorest room in the hotel, really small and No Shower or toilette in the room. When reached there, we had to wait 1h and 30 min for the hotel staff to come and help us with our enquires as we wanted to upgrade our room or reduce the number of nights. We have been given access to a tinny room by a person who was helping that night only and had no clue what he was doing. The twin room had no baby cot, despite the disclaimer on the site where they said that these rooms don't allow an extra bed only a baby cot. After 14h of driving, we have taken the room and started to unpack as baby was tired at 11pm. We wanted to take a shower. No availability in the room. Checked booking's T&Cs and it was advertised as "private shower/bath". But at no point they said private means outside the room and that was for sharing with at least 1 or 2 other rooms on the same hallway. Then, we had no microwave access to warm up the baby bottles. I would definetly say that the hotel is not family friendly or simple FRIENDLY at all. Finally, we have manged to speak to someone at reception, an employee and we asked for a baby cot for that night and to check out next day instead of 2 nights. The lady was cold, had no manners, didn't try to support and sometimes seemed really rude. Finally, she offered an upgrade for + 10 euros extra a night but at that point with the baby sleeping and luggage unpacked, had no sense. All that we wanted is to leave urgently. We left early morning next day but had to pay for both nights. Not thrilled and not fair. Also parking is not around the corner and costs 20 euros per day not 15 euros - so their advertising is wrong.Hotel is definetly not modern. I woud say the opposite but cleanish.. Breakfast is poor. The worst part is that we asked to see the management of the hotel. We couldn't. There was nobody there.

Review 12:Center of the city but a dead end street

Review 13:Very small room - especially for a triple. Also room was very warm; manager neither reduced heat nor allowed AC. We had to open the windows !!

Review 14:Excellent location & breakfast. Quaint old world charm. Staff is helpful with tour & taxi bookings

Review 15:The only thing, I can think of, the Mattresses could be a bit snuglier

Review 16:The Compact Layout of the Hotel, It's Décor and Cleanliness, It has everything in an everything around Location

Review 17:The walls are very thin and although it was a very quiet street, you could hear the people in the other rooms... Also the first room I got was very small with no working desk or table. Instead there were to single beds ( I had ordered a single room).

Review 18:The staff was very helpfull and the location perfect! It is close to both the airport shuttle (7 min walking distance) and to the underground. It is also a nice neighbourhood and you could walk from the hotel to the citys attratictions like the cathedral. Good breakfast and my second room was very big and comfortable.

Review 19:Dragging a suitcase around Vienna is a loud ordeal as it is. The small cobbled stones also in the courtyard leading to the hotel just continue the experience.

Review 20:A nice, cozy hotel that offers probably the cheapest hotel room in central Vienna (though with shower and toilet outside the room, but as it was a one night stay, it didn't matter much). Helpful staff and nice breakfast. And if they also offered ice cream to go with the sparkling wine at breakfast buffet, it would be perfect!

Review 21:There is nothing to dislike!

Review 22:Hotel in great quiet location. Lots of restaurants close by. Easy walk to St Stephens and Hofburg. Very friendly and helpful reception staff. Breakfast was great, lots of choice and good coffee. Breakfast is taken in a lovely room complete with chandeliers. The breakfast staff are also very friendly and welcoming. Room large and very clean. Comfy bed and good powerful shower, although to be picky, the bathroom is a little on the small side. Safe in the room available free of charge. Good wi-fi also free. Great little hotel full of character. Would definitely use again and have no hesitation in recommending it.

Review 23:A lovely, warm charming hotel. A heater in the bathroom which you can turn on any time, a rare thing. Charming staff and lovely breakfast. Computer and printer in lobby.

Review 24:Nothing.

Review 25:So glad we choose this hotel. Everything was just as we wished. Perfect location, lovely comfortable bedroom. Nice size bathroom with good lighting. Quiet ensuring good nights sleep. Perfect location.

Review 26:Minor things like one of the room we had was a little to close to the lift and with no internet connection.

Review 27:The location was very good, peaceful, very clean, good maintenance, friendly service in all parts of the hotel.

Review 28:The one big drawback is the open wi-fi service, Freewave, which hardly connected at all, even in common areas. Otherwise there are just the minor inconveniences of an older hotel: somewhat tired decor, a small elevator, few and inconveniently placed electrical outlets.

Review 29:A comfortable if old-fashioned place in a quiet corner of central Vienna. Staff were uniformly kind and welcoming, room size and comfort were good, and the breakfast selection was extensive and good quality.

Review 30:Nothing

Review 31:Location is not too bad. Beautiful room. The breakfast is excellent, free champagne in the morning and ever so friendly service. I will definitely come back.

Review 32:Nothing bad really, but if your room faces the laneway traffic noise from early morning deliveries is a bit annoying.

Review 33:Hotel decor was quaint and staff helpful and very friendly. Breakfast was good too. Location was also very convenient to main attractions and hop on and hop off bus.

Review 34:It was expensive. Breakfast would be much better for this price. Staff didn't offer cheaper parking place, not even care how we felt us in their hotel.

Review 35:Close to museums.

Review 36:It would have been nice to have a bar / wine bar facilities. The reception areas were beautiful decorated, very comfortable but lacked a little atmosphere. Lounge/bar facilities would encourage people to stay in the hotel and relax during their stay.

Review 37:Nice to stay in a traditional hotel as opposed to a modern property.

Review 38:This is a European Hotel with firm beds and small showers.

Review 39:The location is fantastic, lots of excellent restauants in close walking distance,, near multiple transportation hubs. Located on a quiet cul de sac. Very good free breakfast.

Review 40:The location was wonderful and the reception staff were most accommodating and helpful. We enjoyed your wines and we enjoyed breakfast where once again the staff were very helpful.

Review 41:The location of this hotel is amazing! It is located in a very quiet corner of the center. You can walk to many major attractions. A lot of great restaurants are around the hotel.

Review 42:Bathroom was a little dated, needed a walk in shower for a tall person, hard not to get water on floor being over 6ft.

Review 43:The style of hotel plus staff very helpful and also great location for everything you need from shopping to transport.

Review 44:Nothing - very happy with the hotel, in fact this was our second stay.

Review 45:A lovely traditional hotel in an excellent location. Close to most of the main places of interest. Easy to get to from the airport on Vienna City Lines bus. Spacious, comfortable room - good to have toilet separate from bathroom. A nice, varied buffet breakfast and friendly, helpful staff.

Review 46:Just realized I've booked a room with a shared bathroom a few days before arriving, and this was not a good experience, even though it was my fault.

Review 47:Nice well located hotel, close to the old city, with a frendly staff. Good breakfast.

Review 48:Our room door had a problem staying shut. Could be embarrassing.

Review 49:Nice traditional style room. Great breakfast. Good air conditioning. Great location that was also quite.

Review 50:Nothing -- everything was great!

Review 51:The front desk staff (a tall blond woman whose name I'm sorry to say I've forgotten) was so helpful and kind. The location of the hotel is excellent.

Review 52:No complaints whatsoever.

Review 53:The location is perfect: close to the major sites, but tucked away in a quiet alley. The rooms are quaint and well-appointed. The staff is incredibly helpful and friendly. And the breakfast is outstanding.

Review 54:There was nothing not to like.

Review 55:Friendly informative reception staff. Lovely comfortable and large bedroom with a bath which was a bonus. Nice selection of breakfast food (and lovely, cheerful staff as well). Great location (for arrival on the CAT train from the airport).

Review 56:Location, room size, breakfast and staff were all excellent. Would definitely recommend this hotel to friends and will definitely be staying again when we return.

Review 57:Close to all the main attractions (walking distance) and public transportation. Hotel is situated off a side street so there's no noise issues at night.

Review 58:The hotel location was excellent! It was close to the city center but also offer the needed silence for proper rest given that it is on a traffic-free street. We also loved its buffet breakfast, it had variety.

Review 59:The hotel has no bellman support and no luggage carts. Some rooms (labeled as Classic) are not air conditioned, which could be misleading especially to those used to air conditioned facilities.

Review 60:The hotel is located in a walking distance to Steven Platz. The hotel is classic type, the furniture are in good condition. The breakfast is reasonable and had good varieties of food items.

Review 61:Seemed to have air conditioning issues in all the bedrooms during our stay but there was a really big heatwave in mid 90's Hotel was kept very clean and the staff was very friendly and helpful.

Review 62:Staff was very helpful and when air conditioning wasn't working well brought us a fan and even offered to let us sleep in another room

Review 63:No bad experiences. However, there is no air-conditioning in the room; on very hot days that can be a problem but there is an electric fan provided which helps a lot!

Review 64:Excellent location; very central yet rather quiet thanks to being on a side street. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Very clean!

Review 65:Staff were very helpful with information about the city including good restaurant recommendations. Room was spacious and well-equipped. We left a phone charger behind and they sent it on immediately to our next hotel. Excellent central location near underground.

Review 66:They forgot we'd booked a double bed and gave us two singles. They did upgrade us to air conditioning as a result and offered us another room for 2 nights but it was too far from the children's room.

Review 67:It's location is really good. The breakfasts were dependably good.

Review 68:The beds were a little uncomfortable.

Review 69:This hotel was one of the best places we have ever stayed. The staff was outstanding, the breakfast was substantial, the location was central, and the price was right. We would definitely stay here again.

Review 70:What i had liked even before seeing the hotel was their hospitality. I was booking the room online and my credit card was showing some error during the transaction which was taken care of by the hotel as they did not cancel our booking when we told them to hold the booking inspite of the card error.

Review 71:The room we stay in was over the entrance to the hotel and was noisy sometimes. The room needed updating and was stuffy. Taxis found the hotel hard to find and access.

Review 72:The location of the hotel was excellent for walking to some of the sights, shopping and restaurants.

Review 73:There was literally nothing I didn't like!

Review 74:This is one of the friendliest hotels I've ever had the pleasure to stay in - each and every staff member I came into contact with was amazing, efficient, and exceedingly warm. It was a perfect hotel experience - I travel a lot all over the globe, and stay in everything from b&bs to top of the line hotels and resorts, but this was, quite honestly, one of the best hotel experiences ever.

Review 75:Excellent location, close to subway and Hop on Hop off bus location. Short walking distance to St. Stephen's church and Mozart's House. Helpful and friendly staff. Excellent breakfast. Many restaurants within a short walking distance. Rooms spacious for European standards and clean. Very quiet location with nice patio on second floor. Would definitely stay there again!

Review 76:Lovely comfortable cozy hotel right in centre of Vienna . Only 5minutes walk from trams, underground and 10 minutes walk from City Airport Train. Also the hotel is in very quiet alley for a good nights sleep. Plenty of good restaurants close by and good shops. The staff here are so helpful, the hotel spotless and the breakfasts excellent. An excellent place to stay for young and old. Finally, great comfy beds and air conditioning .

Review 77:Parking can be difficult to access as was loading and unloading

Review 78:Central location, easy walking to transport and city centre activities, Very good breakfast. Helpful staff

Review 79:The rooms were small--as I expected for the price in such a great location. No AC, which could be uncomfortable for those traveling in the few weeks when the weather is above 30 degrees Centigrade.

Review 80:Very friendly and helpful staff. Superb location in the heart of Vienna, not far from the airport bus stop for budget travelers with light luggage.

Review 81:Location is perfect. Room has all necessary amenities. Very cosy. Comfortable bed. Breakfast is very delicious. The hotel is very beautiful and stylish.

Review 82:Items from previous guests found under the bed

Review 83:Old Vienna location- easy for exploring city centre. About 10 mins walk from Wien Mitte station, so if you get the city airport train (CAT) from airport, there's no need to bother with underground.

Review 84:The breakfast was excellent and the staff were helpful. The accommodation was designed to make a a traveller feel at home with all the necessary comforts. Especially appreciated were the air conditioned rooms and the wifi availability.

Review 85:Experience was great. Breakfasts did not offer a wide variety of options.

Review 86:Friendliness of staff was exceptional from the front desk to the dining room.

Review 87:My room appeared to be on the smoking floor, so my room and bathroom often smelled like smoke. Having the option to choose either way during booking should be an option. The bed have a big dip in the side.

Review 88:Location and friendly and helpful staff.

Review 89:The mattress was not the best.

Review 90:The staff was very helpful and readily available at all times. The breakfast buffet had a wide variety of options for all diets and tastes.

Review 91:This was my third stay at the hotel, which has a charming and traditional atmosphere, particularly the dining room with its fountain and plants (very good breakfast) and the courtyard patio on the 2nd floor, where you can take your drinks. The rooms are comfortable, and in some for a supplement you can have a small separate sitting room with a convertible sofa. The staff are welcoming and very helpful. Good choice of restaurants and cafes on the doorstep.

Review 92:I switched to this hotel based on positive reviews here, but my experience did not match up. The staff were pleasant enough but unremarkable. I didn't see a soul in the breakfast room while enjoying rubbery, cold scrambled eggs and undrinkable espresso from the machine provided. The rooms were shabby and small, with shared bathrooms down the hall (I missed that in the write ups I read).

Review 93:The location was good, not far from the pedestrian area downtown.

Review 94:Nothing, everything was excellent

Review 95:Location is only a short walk to Swedenplatz station. The comfort room was excellent, great size, excellent bathroom, as soooo quiet. The staff were very cheerful and helped out any way they could. Frau Reyman was quick with a pot of coffee and a warm smile every morning

Review 96:Super location. Friendly helpful staff. Spotlessly clean. Comfortable beds. Continental breakfast plus scrambled eggs ok. Hotel sells good value bottles of wine and has microwave available th heat food if you wish. Lovely hotel and would stay here again

Review 97:None

Review 98:Excellent location, five minute walk to Stephansplatz but at a cul-de-sac so the room is very quiet. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Nice spread for breakfast.

Review 99:Additional fee for parking in garage nearby.

Review 100:Great location. Helpful and friendly staff. Choice of good bars and restaurants in easy walking distance. All of Vienna's top sights within reasonable walking distance.

Review 101:We found it very humid and warm with little to no control other than windows. Normally not a problem but the alley became noisy in the morning. Floors in our room were terribly squeaky, and the beds were uncomfortable. Felt like thick cardboard.

Review 102:The hotel staff were exceptionally friendly and very knowledgable. It was a nice looking and clean hotel tucked away from the main roads. Breakfast room was great, food was good and again service was good.

Review 103:The showers leaked water all over the floor in the bathroom and there was only one iron in the whole hotel which made it difficult to get ready in a short amount of time if someone needs to use it and it is being occupied.

Review 104:Breakfast was amazing and the rooms are large. The bathrooms are big also.

Review 105:The rooms design was not the best, the cabinet blocked the restrooms door from fully opening.

Review 106:The staff were excellent at what they did and the breakfast was very good. Also was located at a great spot.

Review 107:The bathroom was a bit small- not very important. We had to reconnect to the wifi every time we wanted to use the Internet- basically twice a day- not very important either. Everything else more than made up for these two small inconveniences.

Review 108:We loved the breakfast buffet. The hotel is very well-located and has lots of small restaurants and bars nearby. The opera and museum square are within walking distance, and there is a subway stop nearby. Getting to the airport was cheap and fast by train- even including the cost of a taxi to get to the station. The hotel itself is beautiful, bright and very open.

Review 109:Family lives in city center and this was my fourth visit to the city. This is the best hotel I have been in. Everything, breakfast, cleanliness, staff, location was excellent. Peggy-Leawood, Kansas

Review 110:The location was excellent and the staff were really helpful. We were allocated a twin with a sofa bed and were able to change to a double with sofa bed easily. Concierge was excellent very helpful and friendly. Would stay again.

Review 111:The hotel does not have vending machine and ice machine (or could not find one).

Review 112:This hotel is at the very convenient location-walking distance to U1/U2 line, and Stephansplatz is also a walking distance. Friendly staffs are a plus.

Review 113:WiFi mostly good but sometimes marginal for Skype. Housekeeping some days didn't replace all used towels.

Review 114:Nice spacious room. Nice breakfast buffet. Great inner city location. Opera house and many restaurants walkable.

Review 115:perfect location in the old town where you can walk to every sight. surrounded by great restaurants and recommendations from the staff were spot on! good room, not a proper double as 2 singles put together and 2 seperate duvets but not an issue. breakfast was spot on too!!! great value and such a quiet location.

Review 116:Staff could smile a bit more and be more approachable.

Review 117:The hotel is just steps away from public transport (bus, underground & tram). We needed breakfast one morning before the official breakfast hours: we were able to pre-order the day so that it was left for us the night before! The hotel is an older building so it does look dated, but facilities were adequate.

Review 118:Value for the money is probably okay for Vienna but everything else looks tired and in need of a facelift including the breakfast.

Review 119:Central location and quietness are the best features.

Review 120:See above

Review 121:If u skint and don't mind any luxuries Then this is for u... WiFi speed is slow Shared bath & toilet for some Only positive was the breakfast ..!

Review 122:Only tiny flaw in a perfect hotel- two tvs in bedroom and sitting room but no english channels.

Review 123:I loved this hotel. It had character, was in a quiet little side alley with beautiful buildings. It had lovely old decor in keeping with the lovely city. The room was wonderful. It had its only little sitting room with sofa and tv and tea and coffee making facilities and mini bar. The seperate bedroom with another tv was a good size with very comfortable beds. Both room has french windows to look at the neo gothic building opposite. It was lovely and warm. The shower room was well stocked with towels and toiletries. The breakfasts were fantastic. A buffet of hot and cold food, fresh fruit and bread. The staff were lovely and helpful. We hired bikes from the hotel and they organised a taxi for us. Fantastic I would love to go back and stay again.

Review 124:No phonic insulation, even if the size of the rooms could allow it very well. Slow and inefficient ventilation of the bathroom. Slow speed of the wifi in the room and of the PC in the lobby. No shoes cleaner in the lobby or specific facilities in the room. Better daily variation of the breakfast products could be an asset. Car parking could be cheaper.

Review 125:Excellent location, receptionists very warm, helpful and well trained. Comfortable room, clean and provided with quality and nice furnishings, large and comfortable bed, large bathroom. Very ''Austrian'' style. I would highly recommend this hotel to others and, personally, we will stay again.

Review 126:Throw away the duvet and sleep under a blanket.

Review 127:We had a "Comfort" room which comprised a bedroom, an entrance hall, lounge room and bathroom. A quaint setup but comfortable. A nice lounge alongside reception. The whole hotel furnished with good quality reproduction antiques.

Review 128:Maybe a bit too posh and old fashioned for me, but that's a detail as the rest was excellent.

Review 129:Location is excellent, very cosy hotel with everything you need

Review 130:Champagne at breakfast! Really helpful staff. Beautiful building, loved the staircase and courtyard and plants. Great location to explore the city.
