Reviews for Cape Nelson Lighthouse
Review 1:Such a beautiful spot matched by the beautiful accommodation. Cant fault any part. Steve in the cafe was so helpful after a long drive and set us up with dessert for later that night, in front of the fire. Breakfast of bacon and eggs is waiting in the fridge- in the well appointed kitchen.
Review 2:Very strong smell of woodsmoke, almost overpowering. We have stayed at these cottages multiple times previously & never had this problem. Could easily be solved by cleaning out the chimney as the open fire is prob used by most guests. We used it only on the first night as smoke quickly filled the house :(
Review 3:Loved the remote location
Review 4:Please explain where the key is in the key safe.
Review 5:Great location great house and we loved the fact you had left us a well stocked fridge for our breakfast bacon and eggs yummy.
Review 6:Probably should of swung through town to get some food first. We ended up eating the supplied breakfast for dinner.
Review 7:The beds were so soft. The kitchen had everything you needed and the view was spectacular. Steve was friendly, helpful and informative.
Review 8:The front yard only needed a couple of tons of gravel and some bricks to line the garden and it would have looked fabulous. Their are plenty of native local plants that are as hard as nails
Review 9:The way it was kept, the decor, the fire place was a big hit, the comfortable bed. Very well presented.
Review 10:Loved every bit of my stay at the lighthouse. After driving the great ocean road the entire day I could not think of a better way to top it off. Sitting on the couch, in front of an open fire watching movies, the ultimate way to get away and relax. The cottages absolutely ooze old world character and charm but have all the mod-cons. The bacon and eggs in the fridge ready for the following day is definitely a nice touch. The cottages are a must in any Victoria road trip or short get away
Review 11:This is the place for you if you want to relax around an open fire in a beautiful old but extremely well equipped cottage and enjoy walks and the beautiful surrounds. Only regret is that we would have liked to stay longer. A bonus that we didn't expect was bacon and eggs supplied for brekky!
Review 12:A bit chilly in the bedroom and no electric blankets
Review 13:Great location, Stephen was very helpful, great amenities and well fitted out, great supply of essentials
Review 14:The hot water could have been hotter (but I should have asked if there was a way of getting it hotter), so probably my fault there. Other than that I could not possibly find a negative.
Review 15:The location was perfect for a complete change of scenery. Very wild and very exhilarating. The accommodation was beautiful and very comfortable and secure. A complete package with fantastic provisions (the best we have come across), an open wood fire with plenty of wood provided and a stones throw from the café which was perfect for a daytime meal and drink.
Review 16:Every room had us discovering another exciting feature in this cozy, homely cottage. We had the word "amazing" come out of our mouths numerous times. Spacious, peaceful, warm. Even the kitchen cupboards and fridge opened to little exciting treasures. We loved it; our only regret was that we only stayed one night!
Review 17:Possibly due to strong prevailing winds and the exposed position, the external doors and windows were heavily encrusted with dust and salt. Inside however was fine once we swept up the dead flies from the windowsills! The daytime powercut while we were there offered added 19th century authenticity (but we were warned this could happen).
Review 18:We stayed 2 nights in this spacious high-ceilinged Victorian light-house keeper's cottage, well-furnished with modern well-equipped luxury kitchen and bathroom. Secluded romantic location next to the lighthouse but only 10 minutes drive to Portland. Helpful and friendly owner of the nearby cafe made sure we had everything we needed. Comprehensive supplies provided for cooked brekkie.
Review 19:Nothing
Review 20:The location was amazing - the weather was cool and windy - just right for the stay at the cottage which was very well appointed - definitely recommend staying here!
Review 21:Wifi not working due to technical problems but not an issue.
Review 22:Wonderful location, beautiful old cottage, well furnished & equipped with everything you could need, modern kitchen & bathroom. Lots of extra touches. Fabulous lighthouse views & the best place to watch sunrise & sunset.
Review 23:Due to network complications the wi-fi wss unavailable. This was our only disappointment.
Review 24:The sympathetic restoration and modern facilities. Being made to feel very special.
Review 25:The cleanliness was quite poor. Hundreds of dead flies everywhere inside which could have easily been cleaned up before we checked in. Windows so dirty you literally couldn't see out.
Review 26:Absolute fantastic location and a great experience to stay in a lighthouse cottage
Review 27:The Wifi was not working and the TV also. Bring somw DVD's if you like to use the TV.
Review 28:A relly nice spot on earth. You can relaxed watch the sunset (best from the cliff) Nice big appartments with all gear you need for living and your meals. Logfire was good prepared, thx. Never saw a Lighthouse by night working.. great.
Review 29:amazing view on the ocean, take the wine bottle and enjoy ! The cottage offer everything for a lovely dinner, TV in case you are addict to. Internet for Facebook post.. and a very good chocolate cake served at the restaurant.
Review 30:The March flies but thankfully they left every evening. The whole area has the same problem so it's not unique to the lighthouse.
Review 31:The whole experience was excellent so it's hard to say what was best. The bed was the most comfortable bed on our entire 2 week holiday. The bacon & eggs in the fridge was a special touch.
Review 32:Staff, accommodation was fantastic with a gorgeous kitchen, log burner and all modern facilities. The area was a perfect location to relax, walk and watch out over the sea.
Review 33:Could not get the WiFi to work.
Review 34:Fantastic views, great hike along the Great South West walk that included beautiful cliff top views of the southern ocean, and neat forest hike, all in a one hour hike from the Cottage. One of only two cottages on the property, beautiful!
Review 35:The flies!! But on balance probably better than mozzies
Review 36:The location was perfect and the cottage was delightful. A real contrast to impersonal motel rooms. Well worth the small extra cost. The provisions for breakfast are a thoughtful and welcome initiative.
Review 37:it was very busy that day, so we had to wait some time until we could check in, internet connection was weak.
Review 38:great location, wonderful cottage with everything you need, spotless clean, kitchen very well equipped, comfortable beds. We enjoyed our stay.
Review 39:Wifi service didnt set up properly so we couldnt use wifi - it could be dangers as there is no phone signal there Also there was no water to use in the morning for some reason after we had breaskfast. And service phone couldnt get through so we didnt get wifi service whole time anf no water to use in the morning...
Review 40:location: nice spot to watch stars, see sunrice, see wildlife outside of house:) House setting was very homy. Bed was.very comfortable.
Review 41:The clothes drying stand is broken. No oven gloves! And yet an oven is provided. A lot of sand is blown at the house and external surfaces such as windows and doors need more regular cleaning. The fence should be repaired and white washed.
Review 42:Designer interior, unbeatable location, well equipped bathroom and kitchen, very well renovated to modern standards, great bathroom, thoughtful provisions of washing up liquid, laundry soap and toiletries etc.
Review 43:It was very windy but that is to be expected with the location.
Review 44:Fantastic location with lighthouse outside front door, rugged cliffs, pounding surf. Only 2 cottages so ideal place to get away from it all. Spacious, comfortable, modernised cottage with family sized kitchen and large bathroom. Ducted heating and cooling and option of open fire. Quality furnishings. Breakfast provisions supplied. Good café next door for lunch. Don't miss out on the lighthouse guided tour - you have to book. If you are very lucky you might sight a whale! There was a wallaby in the front yard. Several nature walks to choose from with great views of the coastline.
Review 45:The unhelpful and unenthusiastic staff (if you are sick, then get some help rather than providing substandard service!)
Review 46:The comfort and style of the renovation combines with the fascinating history of the cottage and the surroundings to make your stay interesting in many ways,
Review 47:We didn't stay long enough!!
Review 48:The location, the cottage with incredible facilities and provisions. The surrounds...bird life, whales, walks and the EXCELLENT tour of the Lighthouse.
Review 49:So very glad we stayed here! Loved the quiet location. Loved hearing the ocean. The cottage was more than adequately equipped to make your stay extremely comfortable. Lots of walks right outside the front door. Lots to explore. Would highly recommend staying here.
Review 50:If needed to be picky, the Wi-Fi connectivity is poor. I guess you can't expect too much of it because it is located on the coastline. The signals would be affected by the coverage.
Review 51:A truly fantastic place. Unforgettable place. It's been a real pleasure to stay here. We definitely should have stayed longer. Nothing particularly we did not like - Great location. The cottage was spacious, clean, tidy and well equipped. The rooms were very clean and comfortable. The area surrounding the lighthouse, fascinating coastline, great walks. Very peaceful. Even better if you would like photos of sunrise and sunsets. A truly great place. The cottage was really equipped with everything we needed for a comfortable stay - hot showers, wifi, heating (critical in winter!), particularly because you can choose either air conditioning or wood fire place. The generous kitchenware, washing machine and dryer (plus thoughtful touches, like dishwashing and laundry detergent sachets). The indoor barbecue stove added colour to the dinner. In addition, I think it is worthwhile mentioning that the thoughtful touches of decorations in the bathroom and bedrooms, like books on the bookshelf, travel information on the coffee table, paintings on the walls in the rooms, even a small glass lantern on the dinning table. Beautifully presented home while you are traveling. Great experience - I highly recommend.
Review 52:Only thing missing from the actual cottage was a good view, even of the hills, from any vantage point. Can't be helped, I suppose
Review 53:Great location if you like isolation. Quiet and comfy.
Review 54:Unfortunately the phone lines were down so Internet wasn't working.
Review 55:Open fire with plenty of logs! Fabulous setting. Everything for breakfast waiting for us.
Review 56:This beautifully restored lighthouse keepers cottage is on a lonely cape right next to a grand old lighthouse. Cliff walks, sunsets and sunrises are a speciality, and at night you can keep warm by your own open fire between visits to check on the light.
Review 57:The weather
Review 58:Everything the kitchen AAA The bathroom AAA The lounge room AAA The bedroom AAA The breakfast provided was AAA The weather was the only downer which made the fire even more inviting . Have already told many people about the place. Rated by us as the best place we stayed at, even with the weather so bad.
