Reviews for Hotel St James
Review 1:Not something bad about the Saint James - As Mother Nature found it funny to grow me to a length of 195 cm I did not fit under the showers in the artfully designed baths of the new building. Less something the Saint James could have expected, but they solved it without me even asking, offering me another (more expensive room) with a fitting shower: without any extra charge! Very well done and thank you a lot, Saint-James-Staff!
Review 2:As I stayed almost a month in this hotel I had the chance to take a really considerate look, based on my experience as a frequent raveller. The location of this not-too-big hotel is simply ideal. Within ten minutes you are in the centre of the centre. The employees of the Saint James are very keen to help and extremely friendly and quick with a smile! I would book it again anytime, especially based on the absolutely unbeatable cost/value-relation. Exquisite hotel!
Review 3:Tiny gripe only - nowhere to get a hot drink of any kind, and the nearest cafe was a walk away, not good on a cold afternoon after a hard days sightseeing.
Review 4:Superb comfortable accomodation slightly out of the old town centre. Nice decor, excellent breakfast choices pleasant staff. Ideal for weekend break
Review 5:sewer smell from drain in bathroom for first and last night. Paid for a week's parking and was 'bumped' a night for accommodating another guest who was staying only one night. Room supposed to be cleaned once well; only towels replaced
Review 6:room spacious and quiet but not at hotel itself - beware
Review 7:We have stayed here many times, well-situated on the way to Germany, Austria and on the return to England. Mons is an under-rated town with some very good restaurant around a typical Belgian square.
Review 8:Noisy room (you can hear everything from next room or corridor), very expensive breakfast, room was not in main building of characteristic 18th-century residence, but in some kind of prefabricated building.
Review 9:Location is very good! Free-wifi also worked very well.
Review 10:The room was so hot that air conditioning is required. Could not have windows open due to traffic noise. The fan supplied only pushed hot air around. Only one chair supplied for two persons.
Review 11:The reception staff were very helpful.
Review 12:Bathroom, despite being ultra swish not user friendly. IE sink shallow, shower weak. Breakfast was ordinary.
Review 13:friendly staff. spotlessly clean. excellent location for centre
Review 14:Very friendly staff, were extremely helpful. The parking is at the rear of the hotel and is soft gravel on a slope, fine for cars but not the best serface for parking motorcycles
Review 15:- bin in bathroom was not empty when i arrived
Review 16:- breakfast was good and cosy - some of the girls in the reseption was wery nice; brougt fresh fruits etc to all breakfast guests - nice rooms - good, free wi-fi
Review 17:No tea or coffee making facilities. Shower curtain grubby. Bed a bit hard.
Review 18:For a visit to family , short walk to the Grand Place, Quiet room as requested. Didn't have breakfast, walked to Square for coffee.hotel good large bathroom
Review 19:No hotel parking. Invited to pay to park at the rear of the hotel. On street parking was free but was quite busy and so not very secure.
Review 20:It was easy to walk into the town and into a local park.
Review 21:The WiFi was terrible. I could barely keep one bar for service. The breakfast was a little expensive for what was offered.
Review 22:The room was recently upgraded and was very nice. Plenty of parking around the hotel and they have private parking if you want to pay for it.
Review 23:Parking was expensive, house cleaning only came once during our one week stay (probably because we were in the apartments), bathroom sometimes smelled bad.
Review 24:We stayed in the apartments and we enjoyed the space.
Review 25:Nothing
Review 26:Friendly staff at check in. Bright and clean, with a bath!!! (Pleasant surprise.) Easy to find with the sat nav. Walkable to shops and restaurants. Plenty of free parking near by
Review 27:Breakfast was very Spartan...not sure if worth the price.
Review 28:Clean, fairly spacious rooms with reasonable work area (desk). Relatively close to Mon's grand plaza.
Review 29:Our hotel room faced the front of the hotel and was very noisy with traffic. We had to request soap for the soap dispenser as it had not been refilled when it was empty. Overall, the staff at the front reception was friendly and helpful. However, one individual caused us a great deal of stress saying that there was a problem when we wanted to pay our bill. He insisted on saying that there was a problem when in fact, no problem existed and we wanted to merely pay our bill according to the agreement we had made with the manager. His behaviour was acknowledged by the manager as the manager could not understand why this particular staff member kept saying there was a problem, when no problem existed whatsoever. In addition, this same individual answered the phone at the front desk with a Yes greeting, which is obviously not the friendliest way to communicate with guests.
Review 30:Free WiFi
Review 31:The premium prices of 100 euros a night despite the hotel being verybuget. Showers that only a midget could fit under. Should be a 2star hoter
Review 32:It was clean
Review 33:I stayed in St.James hotel for 3 nights, the personnel is very pleasant, the rooms are comfortable and very clean. You can tell that the hotel is recently redecorated, it is modern and has all necessary for a pleasant stay. Breakfast is good, fresh pastry every morning. The location is perfect, 5 minutes walk from the central square. All together , I recommend it as a very good value for money.
Review 34:The hotel is situated on the ring road so expect some traffic noise at night..however with the fan on and the windows closed I had no problem sleeping. The shower pressure was weak although plenty of hot water
Review 35:Good location, ten minute slow walk to centre. Room was huge although some others are quite small in comparison. Bed was excellent. Good WiFi. Modern decor. I was in the main building so cannot say about the annexe. Breakfast as good as Ibis but 2 euros cheaper.
Review 36:Rooms could be cleaned better as there was dust on the lamp and we found 5 (!!!) spiders and 2 dead mosquitos in our room. For the price of the room I would expect a proper cleaned room.
Review 37:Nice bed and great bathroom
Review 38:Breakfast was truly awful! Hardly anything to eat and what there was was stale. On the second day there was not even an apple as fruit for breakfast. 12 euros a complete ripoff!
Review 39:A very modern and comfortable bedroom
Review 40:I asked for a quiet room and got a room overlooking the 2 major roads. The traffic went on all night so sleep was almost non existing. Also Iwas charged again for the booking. I thought I was paying 171 eurosfor the room and 4 breakfasts at 10 euros each. I was actually charged219 euros.
Review 41:Basic hotel, fair sized room, clean, very close to city center, good breakfest, very friendly staff
Review 42:No wifi coverage
Review 43:Nicely decorated clean rooms, very well located and easy to park
Review 44:At a very noisy crossroads. No air conditioning, very expensive for what it offers.
Review 45:Staff were friendly and helpful, rooms were clean and orderly
Review 46:Location, Comfort, Breakfast, Parking.
Review 47:free public parking on the street just outside the hotel, 10 minutes walking distance from the main square
Review 48:Bed pillows not comfortable.
Review 49:Clean, bright, comfortable & quiet room on backside of hotel. Breakfast was super but not included in room rate.
Review 50:bed extremely hard and was two single mattresses making a double so not the most comfortable.
Review 51:Great location, very friendly welcome
Review 52:Wifi hit and miss up stairs
Review 53:It was a bit cold at the breakfast room
Review 54:The bed was so confortable The room was gorgeous The staff was very nice
Review 55:Breakfast not worth 12 euros.
Review 56:Location
Review 57:Almost everything was good.
Review 58:Kind and professional staff, nice breakfast.
Review 59:Location, quality of the apartment, hotel staff were very friendly and helpful, good free wifi,
Review 60:Breakfast at 12 Euro
Review 61:New in old building. Location.
Review 62:easy to get to centre. pleasant modern room. attractive small garden
Review 63:Unfortunately renovation taking place during our stay so no lift available or car parking. Distance from Hotel to Grand Place is not 10mins for older guests more like 30mins we ended up ordering taxi at 10 euros to go for evening meal
Review 64:good size room & bathroom
Review 65:We were accommodated in the annex (first floor). There was no lift. If you have heavy luggage, ask for a ground floor room. If you add breakfast (12) and parking (10), it puts up the price quite a bit.
Review 66:The location is the best bit.
Review 67:The price of the breakfast is a little bit high; the taste of the coffee was not that good.
Review 68:the spacious and quiet room, the kindness of the staff, the croissant smell in the morning
Review 69:Receptionist persistently insisted that I should move my car from thefree parking spaces in front of hotel, to the inner space at hotel. Thisresulted in 10 Euro parking charge on the hotel bill.
Review 70:Reception open until 1 am
Review 71:Wifi is free but very slow in main hotel building and unfortunately noneexistent in the second building, but this is such a little thing it didnot spoil our highly enjoyable stay.
Review 72:This is the second year in a row we have stayed at this particular hoteland it is a fabulous find that we would highly recommend to anyonethinking of visiting Mons. The staff are all friendly and speak verygood English. The hotel is clean, comfortable, welcoming and boutique/ classic style. The rooms are spacious and their is parkingavailable out front. There is a garden and patio area which is great forsitting out in the good weather and relaxing. The town centre isliterally 5 mins walk from the hotel and is a lovely place to visit.Ideal also for travellers visiting the Expo as although you can walk it,a taxi costs only 12 euros.
Review 73:There were four adults and we all thought the breakfast for the price(twelve euro a person) was a let down, but that being said we felt yourpaying for the convenience more than the food.
Review 74:Great location, the staff was very helpful. Beds were very comfortableand rooms were quiet and clean. Would stay again.
Review 75:The bedroom smelled terrible: as a non-smoker the ingrained smell ofcigarettes was particularly horrible and at the end of the weekend eventhe clothes I hadn't taken out of my case were permeated with the smell.Apart from this it was very good and comfortable, but I would not stayagain, or recommend friends without warning them of this.
Review 76:Confortable, sufficiently central
Review 77:friendly and very helpful staff / clean and beautiful rooms. Fatima was an outstanding member of staff, very helpful and polite. Thank you to all members of staff for making my stay relaxing and enjoyable!
Review 78:No air conditioning in summer/hot weather is difficult, but this lack is quite common Belgium. Was able compensate a bit with good ventilation (good windows) and the hotel is in a shady area.
Review 79:Good location near Grand Place, but far enough away so that the night life does't intrude on sleep. Also located near city bus transportation and short walk to a few good restaurants.
Review 80:The room was very small, corresponding to an attic floor. The elevatormalfunctions, the lighting of stairways and common areas is very poor, making it dangerous.
Review 81:The Hotek us well located.
Review 82:The lack of tea & coffee facilities in the room and the lift didn't work, everything else was fine.
Review 83:They were very personable and remembered our name, even after only meeting us once for a few minutes. Very polite and helpful. The room was clean and well presented and the communal areas of the hotel also looked clean, tidy and well kept. Even though it's in the city centre, the hotel was quiet and easy to find too.
Review 84:We were staying overnight in Mons and the hotel is very well positioned for an easy walk into the centre. The room was fine, and the bed excellent. Good value for money.
Review 85:No air conditioning in the rooms / additional payments for parking , suggest this should be quoted in the overall price.
Review 86:easy to book / convienient for me as a buisness traveller / quite / off street parking
Review 87:I hate room odourisers! Why do hotels think their guests want a chemical-suffused stench in the air??? After finding mine (on top of thewardrobe), I put it outside. I meant to take it to reception andcomplain, but forgot and left it outside (sorry)!
Review 88:Quiet, clean and friendly. Great location, just off the ring road, and,as Mons is a small city, within easy walking distance of everything. Iam a light sleeper, and requested a quiet room. Room 103 fit the billperfectly! It's in a separate building and faces a grassy courtyard. Ididn't hear a thing all night, even with the windows open. The room wascomfortable and clean with decent, if generic, furnishings. Good Wi-Fireception, though I barely used it, to be honest.
Review 89:1. Excessive car park charge - ten euros2. Room was poky. 3. WiFi barely worked on the top floor. 4. Lift appallingly slow. 5. No Bar 6. Breakfast not included for 73 Euro stay for one person for one night.
Review 90:1. Location. Not too far from motorway en route to Calais.2. Short walk to the town.
Review 91:It was a little bit more expensive than what I would hope for, but after spending two very good nights I didn't feel so bad about it. Also, there wasn't any soap for the sink, but I just used the one in the shower.
Review 92:The hotel is good, you will not be disappointed. It's a bit far from the center of Mons, but that may be a good thing because you get less traffic and free public parking.
Review 93:I really like this hotel. I get much more then I expected for thisprice. Very clean rooms, very nice service. Not so far from the center,5-10 min walking only.
Review 94:The breakfast was not worth 12 €.
Review 95:Walking distance from town centre, very close to a nice park, veryfriendly personel in a nice hotel with a particular charactar.
Review 96:Wifi was weak and at times I could not get decent reception.
Review 97:Hotel staff very friendly and accommodating. Location was quite central to restaurants and the Grand Place (10 min walk) without being in a congested area. Rooms very comfortable.
Review 98:No wi-fi when we arrived and took today's to get working. Apartment was cold. Not properly prepared for guest, toilet paper soap and mini kitchen consumables had run out.
Review 99:God design in good location with good free parking nearby.
Review 100:The lift was a bit scarey when it started up in the morning, quite noisy but this did not bother us once we were used to it.
Review 101:The hotel was located just a short walk away from the main city centre area. Beautifully decorated throughout with staff that were extremely friendly and spoke good English. Nothing was too much trouble and no matter what the time of day, there was always someone at Reception to assist answering any questions / booking taxis etc. Room spacious and very comfortable, Free wifi was a very welcome bonus.
Review 102:The breakfast could be better, I don't expect too much from a smallhotel but some more "non-sweet" food would be nice, I.E. not onlymarmelades, croissants etc but a bigger collection of cheese, ham etc.Wi-fi reception at certain rooms was poor (I had a colleague in anotherroom whose reception was fine but mine.. Not so good).I must say I was shocked that the receipts/invoices were manually made and that if my flight wasn't late at the evening (so I was staying in Mons for a good few hours after check-out) they couldn't make it on the spot but had to be mailed to me at my home/work address. And they definitely need a luggage storage room, I won't go into details on how they kept my luggage after I checked out - but they were nice enough to accommodate me.
Review 103:The hotel was petit but so very cute, with very nice and comfy room(+bath) furniture and has a beautiful patio connecting the two hotelbuildings, with some nice patio furniture to hang out in. Verycomfortable room (despite the noisy neighbour I had), good on amenities, very nice location although a bit off center (center is just a 10 minwalk). I will definitely stay there again if my work brings me back tothe beautiful Mons.
Review 104:This hotel is a converted mansion. That sounds quaint until you realizethat it means everything's quirky. The distance between floors is a good20' (7m). They have a loud elevator that moves glacially, but otherwiseit's a narrow staircase and a long hike. And woe unto you if you get a room attached to the elevator! Not that proximity matters overmuch. The Banshees in that elevator sound like they're taking the ultimate warrior to Valhalla every time it goes. That whole English Speaking thing. I guess it's just expected in Walloon/Mons, but if they put themselves out as a "business" hotel... They should have someone on staff that speaks English. They also go home at night. From 1am until 6am or so, they just lock the door and leave. They give you a code to pin-in. When I asked for restaurant suggestions, the answer was "walk downtown". Thanks! For nothing! The hotel is positioned at a VERY noisy intersection that starts up at 5-6am and doesn't quiet down until after 10-11pm. No clock radio, so bring something to drown out the noise of motorcycles and cars gunning it off the light when it changes. I only ended up here because my business trip coincided with the Mons film festival and there was literally no where else left to stay. I would encourage you to stay elsewhere - maybe the LIDO - if you expect international business service.
Review 105:The free Internet is fast - probably at least 8mbs. The wifi reaches the"first" floor (what an American would call the second) fairly well. Therouter is mounted on the wall above the elevator. You'll probably end upon the lobby couch otherwise. The breakfast was okay. They don't tell you (in English, at least) when it is. The gal starts putting it together around 6:45 or so - you can smell the pastries she heats up from your room. But they don't really have it put together until at least 7am or even 7:30 if you want eggs. It seemed they still had food out at 10am but they probably wrap it up soon thereafter. The staff, while not speaking any English at all, didn't treat me with the typical contempt most people in Mons give to non-French speakers. Using Google translate provided some nice, if stilted conversations. Once I fixed the loose shower handle with a rubber band, the water pressure was very nice - good shower. They don't provide wash cloths, however, so either bring your own or use the hand towels like I did. Awkward, but sufficient.
Review 106:The rooms are very noisy. Could follow next door conversation.
Review 107:Very modern rooms. Clean and comfortable.
Review 108:no 24 h reception desk PIN code door opener
Review 109:flexibility of the staff room service
Review 110:Breakfast was very basic
Review 111:Location and layout of the hotel was ideal for our 2 night stay.
Review 112:Smart, modern décor, comfortable room and great bathroom. Veryconvenient hotel for onward travel into Germany.
Review 113:Breakfast was expensive so didn`t try it.
Review 114:Nice modern style. Huge room for the price and very close to city centre.
Review 115:Bathroom fixtures can be upgraded. There was no hot water. TV was too small for the size of the room.
Review 116:Room was clean and modern feel to it.
Review 117:noise from neighbours
Review 118:Parking during the daytime was horrendous.
Review 119:The hotel itself was very nice. Room wasn't too big but it did the job.
Review 120:A nice hotel with great rooms close to the centre of town
Review 121:Poor English of some staff members
Review 122:Almost everything
Review 123:- Breakfast not included and very overpriced
Review 124:- Pleasant Service - Clean, well appointed rooms - Convenient location
Review 125:traffic noise loud due to location and poor sealing windows
Review 126:Very noisy, unit was very dark, stairways and halls not illuminated well
Review 127:wifi does not really work
Review 128:The room is clean, staff helpful, location ok, good value for money
Review 129:no WIFI in the room
