Reviews for Hotel Baia
Review 1:Relaxation space minimal Wine selection very poor! No tea making facilities.
Review 2:View of sea, and mountains-on Cinque Terre Proximity to train station-up the road!
Review 3:Breakfast OK although service indifferent
Review 4:Water view from nice balcony. You can take your breakfast to outside tables and enjoy view. Staff helpful with restaurant ideas.
Review 5:Wish we could have ridden the elevator, but they can only use it to bring the luggage up to the rooms (we are in our 60's), lots of steps, but still very doable. We just took our time up to the 3rd floor and considered it good exercise.
Review 6:We read that the hotel staff was not friendly, but we found them to be very efficient, helpful, and charming. We loved the location, half block from train station and almost right on the beach. October weather was perfect on our 3rd floor balcony overlooking the sea. Breakfast was included and good. Very walkable area. We loved it!
Review 7:Very tired you staff in the reception that was more interested in websurfing than customers.
Review 8:Very good location with outside and seaside tables for breakfast. Friendly staff at breakfast. Very nice view from the rooms on higher floors towards the sea and sunrise.
Review 9:Far from the cleanest room we had in Italy. Mattresses were uncomfortable, you could feel the springs while laying on them.
Review 10:Great location, close to the parking and train station. Right on the beach with great views from our balcony. Basic dated room, but a good value for the money. Very basic Italian breakfast with no variation.
Review 11:We were on the 2nd floor, but the elevator was only for the use of staff and baggage.
Review 12:Location was steps from the train. Room and breakfast were modest, but a good value for the price.
Review 13:Awesome view of the ocean and steps away from the train station. The boardwalk is right in front of the hotel but is quiet at night so can leave windows open and fall asleep to the waves. Wifi worked great.
Review 14:Very steep stairs and lift only available for transporting luggage. Found the second floor a bit of a strain.
Review 15:Right on the sea front. Close to train station.
Review 16:Hotel was quaint, clean and comfortable. It was located in the small town of Monterossa on the ocean. A short walk into the downtown area! Will visit again!
Review 17:The lift is for luggage and those with disabilities.
Review 18:The hotel is right on the beachfront in Monterosso. We had a beautiful room on the 3rd floor with a balcony overlooking the sea. So lovely to wake up to each day.
Review 19:Liked everything however, typical of Europe, be prepared to climb floors to your room as elevator only for luggage.
Review 20:Hotel Baia is in a brilliant location, literally moments from the station and on the main "promenade" overlooking the sea. Rooms are simple, tho sufficient. Staff are lovely. Breakfast simple too tho' plentiful. Really happy overall.
Review 21:The hike up to the fourth floor room, but hey, I lost weight and got into better shape after a three week stay in Italy. The staff did transport the luggage to the room.
Review 22:Our room was located on the 4th floor corner of the hotel and had a small balcony with an absolutely beautiful view of the bay. We were able to leave the French door to the balcony open at night and listen to the lalping of the ocean.
Review 23:NOTHING
Review 24:Outstanding staff!! Obvious pride in ownership of a family run establishment. Simone, especially, treated all guests as if they were valued members of his extended family! Great location! Convenient hotel-owned beach area right next to a friendly beach-side bistro-bar.
Review 25:owner needs to practice her people skills as she has NO patience and makes it VERY clear when you speak to her that you are bothering her!! other staff is fine, but, when you are front desk like she is, you need to at least pretend to be helpful, not mutter under your breath when someone asks a question or needs something! AND, we had a most uncomfortable bed, slumped in the middle and tiny to boot!!
Review 26:excellent location, close to train, beach, perfect place to stay if you plan on going from one town to the other as its the first (or last, depending on which way you're coming from) town of the 5 so its a good location to start from
Review 27:Stairs. But the lift can be used if you have difficulty and for luggage.
Review 28:Close to the railway station, beachfront, reasonable eating choices close by. Easy walk into old town. Wonderful view.
Review 29:Shower a little funky. We got water all over the floor once! But still good. Water pressure wasn't constant. Sign is on the building. We walked right past it the first time
Review 30:Staff friendly. Good food for breakfast
Review 31:lift does not operate till 8am, we have to leave before 8am, carried our suitcases from 3 rd floor. Cleaniness could be much better.
Review 32:very close to station
Review 33:Not bad, but would have loved a view.
Review 34:Located close to train, ferry, beach, restaurants, touring. The complimetary breakfast was quite good and the cappucino's delicious. Close to everything we needed.
Review 35:- bed frame/matress needs renewal - price (but thats the problem everywhere in Monterosso) - elevator only for luggage
Review 36:- Location, location, location - very pleasant staff - upfront beach - outside breakfast
Review 37:No bad experiences to report
Review 38:The location of the hotel, and the hotel beach in front was an added bonus. A nice room at the front facing the sea was wonderful. Staff very helpful and friendly.
Review 39:The small room, stairs and not being able to use the lift. Compared to other 3 star hotels, this one is very expensive - due to location. But Is.an extra '€80 per night worth it? I don't think so. And the. They also charge for the beach. Staff ok but surly. Had to coax a smile out of them at times. Back room with veranda was good as away from front of house noise. But people walking up and down stairs echoed through our room. It is over 100yrs old so I guess you can't expect it to be super luxurious.
Review 40:The position of the hotel right on beach front
Review 41:The beds were incredibly hard and beach chairs/towels weren't included. For the price we paid, they should have been.
Review 42:We loved the location - Monterosso al Mare was a great spot from which to see Cinque Terre - all of the other cities were visible from the balcony looking south. Staff was friendly, despite other reviews claiming they weren't.
Review 43:Could only access room on 3rd floor via stairs. Breakfast was fairly basic, with limited options for gluten or lactose free, but otherwise adequate unless you want hot eggs and bacon etc.
Review 44:Location to railway station, and access to beach. Room was a good size, with view of the ocean. Private beach at 5 Euro/day.
Review 45:Vastly overpriced at double what similar facilities were charging. I would certainly save money for other travel expenses by booking elsewhere.
Review 46:The location was certainly fine, being seaside, and access to the other towns of Cinque Terre was superb with train station a minute's walk.
Review 47:States there is parking which is incorrect. We had to pay €18 for each 24hrs in the local car park which was five minutes walk from the hotel. Our room (room 10) windows overlooked two utility areas which I thought for €150 per night was poor. Hotel owner was very prickly and not at all welcoming. Tried to charge us €15 per day for us to use the sun beds on the beach, although they belong to the hotel.
Review 48:Very central location. Outside area overlooking beach to have breakfast or cocktails
Review 49:Staff could be more engaging. We just arrived from Lucca and stayed at La Boheme. Now, this B & B is the place to train staff!
Review 50:Excellent location. Minutes from train station (please inform people to turn right upon emerging from station). We got a sea view, room was Spartan , so except for the view, the room was ok. It did have a mini fridge. Breakfast was good, not as good as other places. It was a last minute change in hotel due to schedule change so paid more than we wanted. Could be better. Young girl at desk very helpful. Older lady more businesslike, no "hello" or "how was your trip". Gave my husband his credit card slip to sign right away!
Review 51:This 'hotel' has hard beds, threadbare towels, & is a very old property. We had to check out one night early due to a sudden train strike in Italy ( even tho we had paid for that night). They had put my favourite PJ,s under the pillow (which were very small & had been a gift). I called them & emailed asking them to post to our next hotel in Milan (which I was happy to pay for). They refused!! Keeping lost property is paramount to stealing. I was devastated (considering we paid $300 per night and were there for 4 nights).
Review 52:The location is the only good thing with this hotel.
Review 53:No lift. Was on the top floor. So bit of a climb upto room still had a great time
Review 54:Pleasant staff. Hotel well positioned. For beach and. Station. Nice breakfast nice location
Review 55:The room was clean but a bit dated. The hotel could do with a spruce-up. Breakfast was the same every day.
Review 56:The access to the beach and allocated loungers for hotel guests. For us, Monterosso was the best and most convenient village to stay in out of all the villages in Cinque Terre. The hotel was very central in the new part of Monterosso and less than a minute's walk away from the train station.
Review 57:No complaints really. Room was a twin and although there were 2 beds they were right next to each other, practically one bed, that's the only thing I'd suggest would change or be explained before booking
Review 58:Location: practically next to station and beach front! Staff was great! Room had a small patio area which was a nice surprise.
Review 59:Nothing I didnt like, but unfortunately we didnt have a balcony or front facing room which was dissapointing. I was led to believe from my booking through booking.com that we would do
Review 60:Fantastic breakfast and evening drink spot overlooking the beach Good fast wifi Spacious and clean room with great shower facilities (nice and powerful!)
Review 61:It would have been nice to have tea and coffee making facilities in room as we are early risers and breakfast didn't start till 8am
Review 62:Proximity to everything. Eg dining, trains, shops, bars and cafes
Review 63:Room decor, bedspread could have been ....brihter/prettier but who spends time in the room in Cinque Terre?
Review 64:Very friendly staff, excellent restaurant recommendation and cheerful booking of reservations. By being at the end of town, it was quieter and more peaceful. Breakfast outside, overlooking the water was an excellent start to the day.
Review 65:on arrival told not to use lift, for luggage only! Had to climb 4 flights (nearly 90 steps). Then when we told them the fridge wasn't working we were told "yes it is" without even looking at it. Finally they came up and looked and said that's the way it is! It was so hot.! Even the air con was not working. They had it controlled at 27 degrees. You could not change it! Beds tiny, plllows lousy. Overall, very expensive for what we got.
Review 66:Location
Review 67:Have found most hotels in Rome have very flat hard pillows, asked for extra pillow & it was perfect.
Review 68:Loved the location overlooking the beach. Easy walk to cafes bars & station.
Review 69:Location was excellent, across from the beach and on the Main Street, within a 5 min walk to the train station. Rooms were very clean and bathroom was modern. View from balcony was beautiful!
Review 70:The Mature Receptionist could try smiling. Had problem with Toilet Cistern not flushing.
Review 71:Hotel is across the road from the Beach. View fabulous from Room. Wi Fi Excellent. Bar Waiter friendly and efficient.
Review 72:Air conditioning didn't work very well. And it was HOT while we were there.
Review 73:Great location right on the beach and close to the parking. Breakfast was included, although the selection was a bit limited. Hotel is clean and staff is friendly and helpful.
Review 74:Nothing not to like.
Review 75:The location was the best..just across the road from the beach. Our room had sea views. Great restaurant up on the cliff above the tunnel leading to the old town recommended by staff. A highlight of our trip. We liked Monterosso better than Vernazza - more to do.
Review 76:The location was excellent! I loved eating breakfast outside each morning, right off the beach with a spectacular view. The staff was friendly and helpful.
Review 77:1. Very small rooms with old outdated furnishings 2. Rude and unhelpful staff - Common sense did not apply 3. Stale/Non edible Breakfast 4. Discounted sun loungers as listed were not available 5. Small window in the name of sea view
Review 78:Laurie, the owner, should not be in the hospitality business because sheis not hospitable. Did not feel welcomed! Had to pay for a spot at thebeach and a towel!
Review 79:Excellent location. Beautiful view and in the center of things! Most ofthe staff were nice. Food at restaurant was good.
Review 80:The receptionist was cordial. The woman that worked the breakfast buffet was wonderful, but the owner, Lori (?) was horrible. Treated us like we were not worthy of staying there.
Review 81:The view from the top floor of our room, the close proximity to train station and beach were excellent.
Review 82:Terrible experience with and older staff member who literally yelled at me twice (once because another couple didnt close the front door and another time because I couldn't find the elevator door for my luggage)- seriously rudest experience on my entire vacation. Unlike other hotels, they charge you for beach towels and the rooms are hideous. After staying in another hotel in Monterosso, this was a major disapointment and overpriced. Oh yeah- and the breakfast was pretty non-existent.
Review 83:The location is right in the middle of Monterosso near the train station and basically on the beach.
Review 84:Bed uncomfortable and hard Had to pay for beach towels. Should be included I think. Breakfast basic and not much choice but same as all breakfast offered in hotel in Europe. Better off walk outside 15m and get espresso (pop up cafe on corner) and beautiful fresh bakery opposite parking lot on main strip. No lift unless for bags and handicapped. Otherwise walk the stairs.
Review 85:Location, location location, and parking 200m away, Laundry service around the corner separate business - we had been travelling for a month - 2 large loads for 25euro-ish washed, line dried (on request) folded and delivered to hotel that evening. Wonderful!! Discounted beach bed umbrella rates and walk 5 m to beach, cafes, restaurants and supermarket around corner. Room basic and clean but that's all you need on beach ALL day. Wifi good in room. Lift for bags. Maid service daily for rooms excellent. Pay a bit extra and get rooms high up on front with view of ocean I think.
Review 86:The bed was a bit hard And the owner was a bit impatiens.. Like some one who run the business for many years and need to have a vacation....
Review 87:Their location they quietness the staff is very friendly and helpful
Review 88:Nothing bad to say about this! The breakfast is very simple but includes all the necessities.
Review 89:Great value for money! Our room was spacious and nice. The location is AMAZING!
Review 90:Expensive and had to pay for beach towels and chairs, while they play up their "private beach" location. Owners were a bit cold and unfriendly.
Review 91:The old lady in the reception is too arrogant she was reluctant to give me the triple room for my self, wife, two kids 9 years and 3.5 years saying that I should have booked 4 beds room. After long discussion she requested me to pay 30 euros extra for the breakfast of my 3.5 years son.
Review 92:Location and young staff are very nice
Review 93:We loved the location of the hotel and the ease of beachfront access.Hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. We would love to return and stay again!!
Review 94:The location can't be beat. You go to Monterosso for the beach, and walking out of Hotel Baia you are there! Excellent hotel, staff is friendly, air conditioning works, and you can rent beach chairs during your stay! Highly recommend.
Review 95:The brightness of the light at night that showed the temperature of the air conditioner was too bright.
Review 96:Proximity to train station was invaluable to weary travellers. Across the street from beach was sooo wonderful!
Review 97:The room was a dated old fashion and you couldn't adjust the air conditioning so it was always on but was still hot. You can't use the lifts only for bags... The bed was very uncomfortable... The breakfast was very very basic.
Review 98:It was in a great location:)
Review 99:The triple room with the balcony is really spacious for 2 people, having a balcony to the beach side. The hotel is very near to the train station - that's really great considering walking with the luggage upon arrival or departure ( not many taxis there... ). It has the beach in front of it ( but the facilities are going with the discount, not free, which i saw lots of people were complaining .. just consider it is what it is ). Breakfast is very simple, but you can find something for you to eat - do not expect the breakfast of 5* hotel. Everything is fresh (fruits, cheese, bread, presunto )...nut not big variety.
Review 100:We did not have a bad experience. However, they need to advertise that the hotel has no elevator (only for the lugagge). It is not friendly to people with trouble knees or hips.
Review 101:location, location.Service was good. Breakfast was excellent. Clean enough. Reasonably priced. Very simple.
Review 102:A lot of steps if room above first floor. Lift access for baggage only.
Review 103:Great location, close to railway station with access to hotel along flat ground. Staff friendly and helpful. Balcony room facing the sea.
Review 104:Old Italian village, so should expect bad sewer smells, were a little strong at times.
Review 105:Close to all the the action, within walking distance of the train station.
Review 106:Only complaint is that the AC unit has a bright light that illuminates the room so an eye mask was a must.
Review 107:The location was perfect, right across from the beach with its own umbrellas and breakfast (including cappuccino).
Review 108:The hotel has an elevator but they use it only for luggage or people with disabilities. We were in the 3d floor and being an old building the ceilings are high so we had quite a climb! We are healthy but mature couple and would have liked to have been able to use the elevator.
Review 109:The hotel is in the new town very close to train station which is convenient if you are visiting the other towns in 5 Terre and arriving and leaving in the train like we were. We had a room in the 3d floor with a balcony and a beautiful view. The walk to the Old town was very confortable and there were many restaurants near the hotel. The AC worked very well and also the wi-fi.
Review 110:Colour of interior was a bit too much and I thought reception staff could of gone back to how to be welcoming school
Review 111:Hotel was in an excellent location and very close to station, hotel was clean and room we had was standard so no views but we knew that but was still clean. Breakfast was sufficient.
Review 112:The bed was very hard, the room was basic and the bathroom was very, very small with a barely functioning shower.
Review 113:The staff were pleasant and helpful and spoke English very well. The location was fantastic and the view outside our room was brilliant. The private beach was easily accessible also.
Review 114:Shop cleaners started at 5.45 every morning. Good alarm clock to start tracking!
Review 115:Clean comfy room and bathroom, great location opposite beach. Great view of beach.
Review 116:The staff at Hotel Baia is very friendly and helpful. The location of the hotel is perfect. The room was clean and comfortable and we thoroughly enjoyed our 3 day stay here. Would definitely book this hotel again when in the area!
Review 117:The room was very clean, large enough for 3 girls to share, and right on the beach. We stayed here one night. The breakfast was good, and while you had to pay extra for chairs on the beach, it was worth it. Never too crowded, and prime location. The view was spectacular! We were lucky to get a sea view.
Review 118:We debated staying here because of the bad reviews, but honestly we didn't encounter anything unsatisfactory.
Review 119:The hotel was right on the beach whch made it perfect to be in the hustle and bustle during the day, but then quiet at night. The staff was great to us and the breakfast was fantastic.
Review 120:The breakfast had limited selections of fruit, no veggies, constantly ran out of croissants. The staff wasn't friendly. An older dark haired woman was very curt. After a long day walking around they wouldn't let my friend change in my room. They didn't contact me about an issue with my reservation until a couple days prior then refused to waive a cancellation fee is we cancelled.
Review 121:Location was close to beach. Room was clean and comfortable.
Review 122:Discouraging guests from using the lift meant there was a lot of noisy foot traffic up and down the concrete stairs morning and night. Room decor a little tired.
Review 123:Perfectly located for exploring the Cinque Terre with really easy access to the station and no train noise to speak of. Lovely garden terrace off our room made up for the lack of availability of a sea view room at the time of booking. Good beaches across the road, spoiled for choice of restaurants nearby and a nice walk to the old town.
Review 124:While there was a discount for use of the beach, for the hotel price I would expect beach access to be included. To enjoin the beach view and sound of the surf, you must accept the noise of people at the restaurants below and walking along the road in front of the hotel.
Review 125:The hotel is a short walk from train station and directly across from the beach. There's a really good places eat very close by or you can walk 15 minutes into the old town. Our room was basic but comfortable, clean and had lots of storage for suitcases/clothes etc.. Breakfast is very good. Outdoor tables overlooking the beach are available for breakfast or evening drinks/snacks. They keep thier beach area very clean.
Review 127:It wasn't a problem for us, but people should be aware that the elevator is for luggage only. Not a big deal, but double beds are really two separate beds and no effort is made to keep them together.
Review 128:We had a top-floor room with a balcony overlooking the beach. The view was amazing. Convenient location next to the train station.
Review 129:Elevator not in everyday use. So asked to use the stairs.
Review 130:Great water front location. Train station next door. Quiet, comfy bed, very hot shower any time of day, clean room with good wifi.
Review 131:We had to leave! The bed was very firm.
Review 132:The room was modern and spacious. We had a balcony overlooking the beach. It was such a gorgeous view! Breakfast could be taken in the restaurant or out on the street overlooking the private beach. Everything was in easy reach and the hotel is literally a few hundred metres from the train station. I would highly recommend this hotel.
Review 133:Leaving!!!!!!!!!
Review 134:The hotel was very friendly and a good place to set up "base camp". The location was perfect for our needs and close to trains.
Review 135:Nothing
Review 136:Exactly what we wanted. I was traveling with my mom who could not do the hikes so it was a pet place for her to relax for a a couple hours while I hiked. The views are breathtaking and the location is perfect. The restaurant in from called the La Catina by Miky is delicious
Review 137:Stairs. Elevator only for bags, handicapped and elderly.
Review 138:Quiet despite being next to the train station. Very convenient. Many food options nearby. Soothing sound of waves 24/7.
The Fine Print
A service elevator is available only for disabled guests and baggage. Please note, the private beach is available for an extra fee.
