Reviews for Hotel Porto Roca

Review 1:Trapped into booking a small suit room for two couples. This type of room not suitable for two couples but for small family.

Review 2:The surrounding of hotel and its structural set up like the swimming pools, resting area.

Review 3:The room was very plainly decorated and quite small. Bedding was just ok. Some mood lighting would great in the bar area. Too bright.

Review 4:The staff was wonderful. Very attentive.

Review 5:The air conditioning didn't work.

Review 6:The view from our balcony was amazing. The breakfast buffet provided a lot of choices. The free taxi service to and from the train station was helpful especially when we had lots of luggage.

Review 7:Our room location was at the back of the hotel down from the kitchen. We had no view and could not enjoy the fresh air due to kitchen smells (not bad...just the smell of cooking).

Review 8:The location was quiet and had beautiful views. They made good use of patio and pool areas for all guests. Also a nice place to begin the Cinque Terre hikes but also had trails to the north as an alternative.

Review 9:The only thing we didn't like was the free beach chairs - as they are sit only & your can't lay down in them. I paid $10 Euro to get a lounge chair and it was fine.

Review 10:We wanted a relaxing 5 days after the craziness of a F1 race in Milan. Other reviewers didn't disappoint. We thought the location allowed privacy away from the tourist mobs in the towns. We sat on our balcony many nights & drank directly from our stocked wine fridge. We had room service dinner one night which was the same delicious menu from the restaurant. We enjoyed the pool, nestled between the sea & vineyards. We took advantage of the 1-day turnaround laundry service. We used the free hotel beach access, which was much more private than the public beach.

Review 11:Nothing really. We ate in the dining room for dinner one night and it was a bit expensive but that's all.

Review 12:The view from the hotel is spectacular. We had a sea view room and it was worth it.

Review 13:Complimentary taxi ride provided by hotel from train station on arrival gives a disappointing first impression. Both taxis used by the hotel have drivers who are unfriendly and in an extreme hurry.

Review 14:Incredible, unbeatable outlook and position. Vintage sixties architecture and furnishings impeccably maintained. Breakfast, bar and restaurant very good. Impressive pool with relaxing surrounds and that awe inspiring view. We had a back room without a view but paid a reduced price. Front rooms have balconies and views. A wonderful experience for 4 days at the Cinque Terra.

Review 15:Older people may find imthe hill up to the property difficult..free breakfast was average

Review 16:location location location!!!!! We were almost in tears with joy with the views. We had a superior double with no views and still loved it!! Such a clean & modern room. Great mini bar which is hard to come by..pool staff were great! The pool is the best infinity pool I have been in..honestly, you won't be disappointed...

Review 17:We had paid for an ocean view room, which we did get but it was right about the hotel entrance so we could hear guests coming and going in the morning. Plus, the view was slightly obstructed by the roof of the hotel's entrance.

Review 18:Convenience to the Cinque Terre hike. Great pool. Fabulous views. Close to the main town, but away from the tourists. Clean room and bathroom with a shower with decent water pressure. Staff was friendly and attentive.

Review 19:Breakfast was very average. All meals in the restaurant (dinner) was average. Service at breakfast was bad.

Review 20:Loved the pool area and views on the hill. Our room had nice balcony and great air conditioning as it was super hot. Lunch at pool was really nice - the best spaghetti bolognaise by bar at pool. Made friends with their cat @ lobby.

Review 21:The breakfast was of a very poor standard! It needs serious improvement...bread was awful, the fruit salad was terrible and very little choice all together! The food at the pool is also very average! The rooms are very small...tiny...two people can't fit around the bed but the balconies are very big...too big (!)...it should be the opposite really!

Review 22:The location is excellent, stunning views! The pool and its area is wonderful, gorgeous!

Review 23:my only negative is we didn't have information about where to catch the free shuttle bus up upon arrival. But it was a stunning 32 degree day so we walked with 2 suitcases, and were greeted with a free water upon arrival. It's worthwhile checking before arrival, but the walk is doable if you forget...

Review 24:After moving rooms after the first night this place is heaven on earth. The hotel was wonderful, the walk up and down to the town easy, the pool and staff at the pool were wonderful. Food at the restaurant was good, reception staff especially the lady with short hair was wonderful and went out of her way to assist with the room change (sorry we did not catch her name, but thank you). All in all this place is A+++

Review 25:The duplex suite with balcony was perfect for our family of four. The staff was always very helpful. Breakfast was good. Infinity pool was fabulous. Loved the beach and the walk to Vernazza, (a lot of steps!) Liked the convenience of the taxi to drive us up to the hotel if needed.

Review 26:No kettle, ironing board, moisturiser . Not greatly important, but should be standard. Had an awful room at first. advertised as small double. More like a broom closet. Upgraded to a suite. Small room should not be offered at this .beautiful place . Overall wonderful.

Review 27:Pool, architecture, animals, staff.

Review 28:First time ever I had to wear noise damping earplugs to bed at night. The air condititioner was on off on off and SO NOISY. Restaurant staff especially Head called Antonio is sullen, almost rude in his manner. Customer focus is not a strong point.

Review 29:Spectacular views, clean, nice room

Review 30:Overall, the hotel is average at best. Service was a bit hit and miss - I speak Italian, so could hear a few staff saying things like 'do whatever the (expletive) you want' joking with each other at the pool. Hmmm. Another guy thought he was getting the best of me by bringing a plate of prosciutto croissants (the place is crawling with aggressive bees, and they like to eat prosciutto), and then saying in Italian, 'I'm bringing you this as I know it will bring the bees'. I doubted that I heard him correctly, until the bees came en masse. Also, the walk up to the hotel is quite full on, and was a bit much for my mom to do a few times a day, every day. The air conditioning was also not strong enough. I wouldn't waste my time to stay here - try La Mala in Vernazza or La Torretta in Manarola for a more peaceful stay.

Review 31:The room was clean and sufficient, but nothing more, not typical 4-star standards. View is amazing and worth it for a dinner only.

Review 32:The picture of the basic room does not really reflect that the room is facing the wall, and there is almost no natural light coming in, so you have to use electric light. Also those rooms facing the wall get really noisy around 9.00- 10.30 pm because of the kitchen cleaning. The breakfast selection was poor.No fresh juice. You have to climb to the hotel! After climbing 2-3 times it becomes annoying

Review 33:I liked the pool area and the staff at the pool.

Review 34:Slow or unavailable service at the pool (one day we couldn't get a server so had to move to the inside of the hotel). The reception was asked to have a taxi ready at a certain time to get us to the train station; poor coordination and late arrival caused us to nearly miss our train. Grumpy morning breakfast staff - had to tell them we were sorry to bother them.

Review 35:The location of the hotel was great; overall good location but very expensive.

Review 36:Be prepared for the steep walk up to the hotel. Complimentary taxi rides are provided on arrival and departure only. Our room was rather small with nowhere to put our second bag.

Review 37:Great breakfast selection. Our room ( 218) had a big balcony. Pool area is magnificent and much appreciated as we were there in very hot weather.

Review 38:The view comes with a price...a long uphill walk from town. Pool should have been cleaner.

Review 39:Staff was friendly and courteous. view is amazing! Small balcony was great to watch kayakers and boaters pass by.

Review 40:Everything else . Poor food , surly staff tiny bedrooms , even smaller bathrooms . Poor air con , unhelpful reception , unkempt pool area . Few members of staff were great .

Review 41:Position

Review 42:Great location. The rooms were of a decent size. Roomy bathroom which was nice. Amenities on this property was very nice. Very professional and helpful staff

Review 43:The front desk staff were not as customer oriented as they should be. After making a mistake involving a dinner reservation, they were not apologetic and did not put us in touch with management, as requested.

Review 44:The most breathtaking location situated on a cliff overlooking Monterosso al Mare and the Mediterranean Sea.

Review 45:Relaxing in the beautiful pool with drinks on the tranquil terrace high above the beach with breath-taking views over the sea filtered by the crimson bougainvillea after an exillerating day hiking or beaching!

Review 46:The wifi is very spotty, and almost non-existent in the room. You must be in a common area to use it. it would have been nice to have real coffee service, not Nescafe available in the rooms as well. Lastly, although not a negative, we were traveling with older teenagers 15 and 18). I wouldn't suggest a hotel for children any younger. Although it worked out quite well older teens.

Review 47:Apart from the stunning views of town, the cliffs and the sea, the facility was clean, inviting and relaxing. If you are going to indulge in this hotel, make sure you go all out and get a sea side view with a balcony. Be sure to also spend some time relaxing at the pool sipping a drink while taking in the stunning views in all directions. The staff was also very helpful, inviting and easy to deal with. We had a number of small requests, and each one was met with graciousness.

Review 48:We truly liked everything and enjoyed our visit to the Cinque Terre region immensely.

Review 49:We liked everything about it. Our stay was wonderful and the staff is very kind and helpful. Our room was a teeny bit small, but the patio and balcony with gorgeous views more than made up for it!

Review 50:Absolutely nothing...the place is awesome and so worth it.

Review 51:The hotel was unbelievable. The staff whether front of house, restaurant, cleaning staff etc were so friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Room was beautiful with a fantastic balcony over looking the Sea and port of Mont Rosso.

Review 52:The rooms were dated, but with the location and views, it really doesn't matter. The staff was very nice and professional.

Review 53:Location is unbeatable. We went early in the season so we practically had the entire hotel to ourselves, and it was very affordable considering the cost during high season

Review 54:difficult to get to and from town for someone that is handicapped.

Review 55:The staff was kind, helpful and professional. The views were stunning. I wish I had stayed more than 4 nights.

Review 56:The pool does not open till May 1st which was a disappointment and a surprise, as it is one of the 'features' of the property ... this should have been clear on the website and when making the booking.

Review 57:Location, staff, sea view room

Review 58:The Wifi was very intermittent in the bedroom.

Review 59:The location and views are fantastic. The reception staff were very helpful. The breakfasts were great with lots of choice and attentive staff. The hotel is close to the town and well placed for the walk to Vernazza. Walking into town takes 5-10 minutes, returning to the hotel uphill is good exercise! A perfect stay.

Review 60:You pay landscape and location, not room quality. It's not clear the pool area is closed from October to April/May. Although there is a taxi service to take you from the train station to the hotel, to access the hotel daily you have to use a very steep road (is encrusted in a mountain) but it gives you beautiful views.

Review 61:Hotel placed in a fantastic landscape. The view from the restaurant and balconies are terrific. Very good multilingual staff, over the average service, luxury hotel facilities. Regular rooms for the price you pay though.

Review 62:Excellent hotel, amazing location, great facilities and details in the rooms. Everything is clean and proper. Excellent service... They even get you a taxi from and back to the parking lot.

Review 63:We had some problems with some noise in our walls at night.

Review 64:We absolutely loved the hotel, the location and the serenity! The complimentary breakfast is delicious. Our dinners at the outside balcony were beautiful and scrumptious!

Review 65:Great setting. A bit of a steep climb from town but just part of theambiance.. Breakfast on a beautiful terrace over looking the ocean foodwas very good. A little pricey but worth every euro.

Review 66:The room was dark and tiny. The bathroom was unbearable. A cheap narrow shower that fits an hostel and not such an hotel. We couldn't have a shower and not touching the movable glass doors... Such a shame. I passed a complain to the management. R. B

Review 67:The location is gorgeous. The pool is great. The views from the lobby and the veranda are outstanding. But...

Review 68:We needed to be picked up by the train station and even called ahead to arrange transportation. When we arrived there was no one waiting, or at least identifiable, to pick us up. We had to start walking before flagging down a taxi that works for the hotel. Fortunately, we flagged down the right one. Once at the hotel, however, it was very easy to coordinate transportation with the hotel when needed and the ride back was no problem. Very pricey. However, we did go towards the end of the tourist season and did have a room with ocean view, which tends to jack up the price. Definitely not for anyone looking for a cheap place to stay for a few days but if you want to get your pamper on without worrying about the cost, go for it.

Review 69:Beautiful hotel and view Great amenities and location Very friendly and helpful staff Very clean and comfortable (by European standards)

Review 70:The food at the hotel was substandard. We didn't care for eating there. The pool was very cold although after the trail hike that was good for the initial plunge.

Review 71:The staff was excellent. Very courteous and they make it too easy to speak English. The over all condition if the hotel was okay but it really isn't an upper end place outside of the view.

Review 72:It will be great if they add more varieties to the breakfast buffet, such as options of omelets and hot dishes and more varieties of cheese of that area and the produce famous and particular for the surroundings villages and Tuscany which will make it more authentic experience...!

Review 73:We liked everything, the spectacular views from the hotel room, the restaurant the pool... friendly staff, good facilities, nice pool and Jacuzzi... very classy and exclusive ambience and the best hotel in the area in terms of location and facilities and service...

Review 74:For the expensive price which is surely for the view location which was awesome I was diss appointed I had to pay extra to cook poached eggs or omelet should have been included in breakfast

Review 75:View amazing

Review 76:Rooms quite pricy, but certainly worth a stay in this expensive Italian area. Balcony large allowing sun bath, but room itself quite small (OK for 2 nights).

Review 77:Enjoy breakfast while overviewing the harbor and town of Monterosso. Take a walk along the Cinque Terre path to Vernazza, starting from the hotel. Return by train stopping nearby (no rumour). Relax at the beautiful private swimming pool or public (seats reserved) beach. Take a private sun on sunchairs light with the two at your hotel room large balcony (probably 25 m2 or so). Clean. Staff very friendly.

Review 78:Hotel decor is quite dated (1960s/70s). Had some small bugs in the room regularly. Bathroom was quite small.

Review 79:Friendly staff, great breakfast and wonderful view of the town. Clean facilities. Complementary taxi to and from the station was very nice.

Review 80:Remember to ask for a pick up if you are bringing luggage. It is seriously uphill.

Review 81:This is the perfect place with a great terrace view for meals and pool.

Review 82:Nothing to dislike.

Review 83:The room, although small, had a large balcony overlooking the bay and the township. Beautifully positioned but expensive to have a room with a view. Breakfast was good and the staff members were helpful.

Review 84:Overpriced. You should pay for the accommodation and food not the views they should be free as they don't belong to any of us!

Review 85:The views, The food, The beach. Helpful staff.

Review 86:Breakfast was so-so, really basic and we had better European breakfasts at places with far fewer "stars." The lunch menu was limited. Even though its lovely and my family loved it, I'm not sure I would stay here again -- not sure that the value is worth the price paid. That being said, it really is a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Review 87:We loved Hotel Porto Roca. The location was amazing -- nestled into the hillside with lovely views of Monterosso and the water. I can't imagine there's a better place to stay. The gentleman that worked in the bar was charming and saw to our every need. The pool was amazing -- the highlight of our stay.

Review 88:The walk up to the hotel would be a problem if you are unfit, or elderly.

Review 89:Excellent place to stay if in Sorrento and want "that little bit extra". Beautiful views. Great staff.

Review 90:The soft furnishings in the room are outdated and need renewing. The room generally looked a little tired.

Review 91:Magnificent pool and sitting areas. Staff are exceptionally friendly and attentive. Menus have a great variety of choice using much local produce. The food is presented beautifully and tastes even better. The position could not be better with fabulous views of the ocean and Montorosso. Will definitely come back.

Review 92:the pool closed to early, should stay open til sunset. the restaurant needs to be a little less stiff

Review 93:the views are to beautiful. the hotel itself is like being on a movie set

Review 94:EVERYTHING!!! From the moment of arriving at this beautiful hotel, the friendly and very helpful staff and management, the fantastic views, the great breakfasts, the spacious room and balcony, the free pick and delivery and drives up the hotel road and especially beauty of the whole pool area and property. JUST OUTSTANDING!!

Review 95:The doors are on the thin side so you could hear some of the guests in the hallway sometimes. Dining menu had some excellent dishes (others were ok) but could use some daily specials for added variety. The sides that accompany the main dishes could also take better advantage of the local fresh vegetables.

Review 96:The hotel tries to make this visit as stress free as possible by including things such as pick up and return to Monterosso on arrival/departure and beach club access. All of the staff is very welcoming and professional including all of the waiters in the amazing dining terrace. The view from the dining terrace is simply breathtaking and the salt water pool feels dreamlike with it's incredible views too. Even though we were not able to reserve one of the rooms with a better view, ours was comfortable and the a/c, hot water, etc all worked perfectly. It is a wonderful location from which to explore the area. I would definitely love to stay at this hotel again!

Review 97:located up the mountain, too noisy as rooms without sound proof,

Review 98:Toilets, cleaniness, staff

Review 99:Wonderful staff, fabulous dinner, and scrumptious breakfast.

Review 100:Only issue was beds were too firm for our liking, but minor compared to overall feeling of facility.

Review 101:Pool was great, dining has an amazing view.

Review 102:Staff not service orientated Small room with view

Review 103:Location is great and pool is good Views are great from outside areas

Review 104:Gorgeous views Very helpful staff Great location Breakfast and food in general excellent

Review 105:All at least very good!

Review 106:Great views, probably the best located Cinque Terre hotel.

Review 107:The hike up the hill after a bunch if wine. :-)

Review 108:The staff was amazing. Very sweet and helpful.

Review 109:All good

Review 110:Great location, great facilities, welcoming staff, loved the restaurant

Review 111:The hotel was beautiful and could not have been in a better position. The stunning view from our room, the pool and the staff were excellent.

Review 112:Friendly staff amazing view

Review 113:Everything. Staff were friendly and can't beat the location. Best in cinque terre

Review 114:Breakfast was only average with stale bread. Restaurant staff were a bit stuffy and some would barely smile.

Review 115:Loved the view from our room.

Review 116:Great location

Review 117:no conditioner bad pillows

Review 118:pool view location dining room food

Review 119:Small room size and room deco is outdated.

Review 120:Large Balcony facing the sea.

Review 121:Wifi didn't work well in the room

Review 122:Love the chairs at the beach. Loved our deck. Loved the view.

Review 125:Furniture needs updating.
