Reviews for Petra Palace Hotel

Review 1:Rooms need to be updated, especially bathrooms. Felt just kind of dingy, though not really dirty.

Review 2:Location, location, location. Also ease of parking on the street.

Review 3:Comfortable quiet rooms with high-quality beds. Very helpful personnel (e.g. to arrange transportation). Perfect location near the entrance to the archeological park and several restaurants.

Review 4:The property is in need of a thorough refresh. The decor was shabby and 20 years out of date. The free wifi in public areas didn't work. The breakfast and evening buffets were functional.

Review 5:Only a few hundred metres from the entrance of the Petra site. A warm welcome from the staff, who spoke good English. Comfortable beds.

Review 6:Very tired looking corridors and rooms. Poor standard of cleanliness. Stained towels. Little variety for breakfast. Chipped and grubby crockery.

Review 7:Excellent location.

Review 8:They should have variety of breakfast food. Internet access is only at the hotel lobby.

Review 9:The location is excellent as it is only walking distance to Petra Gate and bus station.

Review 10:The hotel is run down. The low ceiling and old carpet make it not really pleasant.I also felt that it was not really clean.

Review 11:Location is really good. Just five minutes walk from the entrance of the old city of Petra.

Review 12:The corridors need to be freshened up.

Review 13:Very clean room with AC in front of the pool, tasty breakfast and very good location almost in front of Petra entrance.

Review 14:In-room facilities look disgusting and very outdated; the overall looks match the typical standard in the area... cleaning is "ok" to the naked eye...

Review 15:Staff was helpful and polite; good enough for one night sleep; great location; value for the money

Review 16:The hotel is in a really bad condition... left the moment I saw my room... corridor's was out of lights and floor where the room was looked like a horror movie scene..left without stating

Review 17:Nothing.. but staff was cooperative and the hotel is located near Petra Visitor's Centre

Review 18:1. The rooms, very filthy. the towels were not cleaned, 2. broken plates/cup was provided for breakfast. water not even present while having breakfast. 3. the bathroom was spacious had many gadgets but none of them was working. 4. The carpet was very dirty, foul smell, felt very choked. 5. thank God it was only for few hours as we checked in late at night and checked out early morning.. 6.Communication issues- asked for black tea was told to move toward the place were black coffee was served. 7. even the external name board the "P" was in a verge of falling off.

Review 19:the location was somehow ok.

Review 20:Tamim - the manager was superb, as were the rest of the staff! They helped us to organise transport and trips around Jordan for a very good price that made our whole trip excellent!

Review 21:If you're independent traveler(s), brace yourself for the crowded tour bus groups that stay here. Was not apparent upon check-in. The decor in the rooms looks original, circa 1970s (drapes, carpet, bed linens)... needs updating. Common areas, nice with tile/marble floors. WIFI in lobby only. Hotel charged me 2x, and person at reception ran card 2x without it going through, supposedly, then another person ran again and included and add'l amt. for fees to convert from JD to US dollars prior to running my credit card w/out my knowledge. Reserved and paid for the first time in local currency - my VISA card takes care of foreign transaction fess.

Review 22:Rooms are large enough, if dated. Common areas better. The location is the best place about this hotel, hands down. Two short blocks from entrance to Petra. The incl. breakfasts was quite good. The value was good had I not been charged two times for the same stay on my credit card while the person at reception immediately stopped finishing my check-out as soon as a couple of people walked into the lobby to check in.

Review 23:The hotel is very much a faded glory. It has SO much potential but has obviously had no investment in the last decade. The food at breakfast is fine but if you come down after 8am, expect to see lots of dirty tables that haven't been cleaned and staff who took a long time to find cutlery etc. The rooms need a fair amount of maintenance. We had 2 rooms connecting and both rooms had draws that fell down if you tried to open them. The carpet was also very dirty and worn through in places. If you are after somewhere that is low cost and close to Petra then great, just don't expect much for your money.

Review 24:Location and price were exactly what we wanted. Walking distance to the entrance to Petra.

Review 25:The receptionist not at right appearance and solem faced. There was no bath towels only hand .the tv was not working. Dripping tap.

Review 26:Location was ideal for the sites

Review 27:Rooms need refurbishment. But for the price I paid, am not complaining. Breakfast area is downmarket. Cutlery etc. poor. Area gave the feel of a cheap hotel.

Review 28:Very well located hotel. Petra ticket office is nearby. Rooms are comfortable. Decent rest stop.

Review 29:Facilities a little worn. For example our bathroom ceiling had water damage and some mold.

Review 30:Location within easy walking distance to Petra Gate. Breakfast was good with many options. Room was very large and clean.

Review 31:The pool was freezing and the Internet was unreliable and only available in the lobby. No tea and coffee facilities in the room.

Review 32:Location and helpfulness of staff. Breakfast and evening buffets were good.

Review 33:The other receptionists are not helpful at all.

Review 34:The woman receptionist from the morning is really great and helpful. The geographical situation is great. The breakfast is good enough.

Review 35:Rooms are a bit worn-out. No wifi in rooms, only in the lobby.

Review 36:Clean and spacious room. Tranquil inner court with a pool. Just 300 metres from the entrance to Petra.

Review 37:Friendly helpful staff. Very near entrance to Petra and bus depot. Restaurants nearby. Comfy beds. Clean bedding/room/bathroom/towels ect. Good Aircon everywhere in hotel. Pool in sheltered courtyard. All at a very reasonable price.

Review 38:Expencive taxis - 40 dinar to Eilat border, 65 dinar to Allenby border, but all drivers will try to assure you that it's costs more than 80 and 160 dinars)

Review 39:Close to Petra - 3 minutes walking to the visitor's center and the Petra entrance

Review 40:The only problem we had was that the air conditioning was not working very well on that night but the staff tried their best to fix it and make us comfortable.

Review 41:Location is perfect. Just a few minutes walk from Petra visitor centre. The staff is extremely friendly and always helpful. The buffet breakfast was simple but decent. The two pools at the hotel are also lovely. Rooms were clean & the beds were extremely comfortable.

Review 42:No wifi in room

Review 43:Palace hotel stuff is awesome.the reception guy George helped me a lot,he is the only person I met in Petra kindly to the tourist. Room is tidy, however no wifi in the room is terrible and seems lack of a lot of charge in room

Review 44:The hotel reeks of cigarette smoke, the breakfast is just OK and the reception staff are grumpy.

Review 45:You are right by the visitor centre and entrance to Petra. There are cafes and restaurants right by the hotel. The hotel is about 100m from the Movenpick which has a BBQ every night on the rooftop terrace for 25 JD.

Review 46:The room was run down. But clean enough and doable.

Review 47:The staff was awesome. The guy behind the desk (he said his name in English is John but in Arabic it's Yeahaw) helped me arrange my whole time and his suggestions were spot on.

Review 48:Confirmed room was not available. Breakfast was very bad. Schwimmingpool not available. One of the worst hotels we visited compared to the reputation.

Review 49:Petra Palace Hotel is a perfect place for an overnight stay if you are visiting Petra, because the entrance is in a short walking distance. The pool is very refreshing, especially after a hot summer day in Petra and the hotel bar serves great cold beer, not alcohol free like in other hotels where we stayed in Jordan. The hotel was built in 1974 and has 180 rooms so it is quite big for a small town like Wadi Musa. It may need some restoration in some parts, but never the less it has its charm !

Review 50:What a disappointment ! We had no cold water for the shower, a cockroach was in our bathroom, one of the two swimming pools was unavailable, the breakfast was poor, and on the second morning was closed 45minutes before the official time, and there was an electricity shutdown...

Review 51:wifi only in reception area

Review 52:GREAT place to stay. Best location if you wanna visit Petra (of course you do). This is 200m from visitor center. Great pool, which was directly 10m from our room, accesable through huge window door, really cool.

Review 53:Hotel bar had a very selection but there are nearby restaurants. Wifi only works in lobby.

Review 54:5 minute walk to Petra entrance Pool was clean and nice (only one open at the time), and set among nice gardens Our room was large and comfortable (a little dated but no issue). Rooms were big with two doubles. Was 40c outside but air conditioner worked very well.

Review 55:The location- it is 3-4 mins walking from the Tourist centre of Petra. The breakfast staff was nice- they opened the breakfast early so that I could visit Petra at day-break itself.

Review 56:The hotel's equipment is a little bit old (AC not working very well, and double beds in rooms with 2 double beds are too small for 2 people to sleep in).

Review 57:The location is great, a few steps from Petra site. The hotel offers good quality for the price, and the staff is nice and friendly.

Review 58:Cleanliness of hole property and very bad equipment in bathroom.

Review 59:Location and swimming pool. After long tracking and hiking in Petra it is realy good to have hotel with pool for relaxation.

Review 60:My only minor issue is that the WI-Fi was only available in the Lobby. Certainly not a big problem.

Review 61:Fabulous location, 3 mins from gate to Petra. Friendly staff. A pool.

Review 62:Pretty rundown, you can really feel the lack of tourists when you stay here, it probably hasn't been updated since the 90's. No wi-fi in rooms just in the lobby, but the tv gets a few English channels like cnn, bbc, movies etc. Included breakfast was very small at 6:30 before they put the buffet up (lunch meat, half tomato, some slices of cucumber, boiled egg and bread), the buffet has some variety but the food was not good. AC works but is not very strong.

Review 63:Close to the main gate and has a pool, that's why we stayed here and I think those 2 things make it worth it. Staff was fairly helpful, 1 guy at the front desk called a taxi for us that never showed up, so someone else called another one for us that did. Overall experience was fine for a mid-range hotel, not great but about what I expected.

Review 64:One of the swimming pools was not functioning. Breakfast was quite basic (no buffet). Internet is available only in the lobby.

Review 65:The hotel is very close to the Petra entrance. It is a quiet place, staff is friendly, rooms are slightly dated, but clean and spacious

Review 66:Smoking in public areas of hotel and in restaurant but this happens all over Jordan. A little run down but very clean.

Review 67:Large rooms, Good breakfast, Good location easy walking distance to Petra entrance.Refreshing pool after a big day walking. Would not hesitate to stay there again.

Review 68:wifi is only available in the foyer, which was disappointing.

Review 69:breakfast was great. the management let us use the pool after we had checked out. beds comfortable. rooms spacious. location excellent.

Review 70:staff was very unfriendly, halls ways were very scary and dirty. Hotel was not even close to being booked but we were still put in the furthest room possible. No WiFi in room.

Review 71:Location was the only good thing.

Review 72:Breakfast not very good. Staff did not seem interested in checking plates available or food and drink needed replenished. No proper cleaning of tables after use.

Review 73:5 minutes walk from Petra park

Review 74:Small group of english tourists drunk on first night banging on doors at midnight. They left that morning. Louts can happen anywhere

Review 75:The location was perfect and most of the staff were ultra helpful and friendly. The reception is the only area with wifi..not even the breakfast room. Pool at 3rd floor very nice. The hotel feels family run and rooms are nice but tvs are old and bathrooms and corridor spaces look very tired.breakfast is plentiful but very simple. overall very good.

Review 76:Only wifi in the lobby

Review 77:It was very close to the visitor center and believe me with all the walking you will do in Petra the location of this hotel is great! Staff was really helpful, breakfast was good. We also had dinner for 12 JID it was a good buffet (drinks you have to pay separately).

Review 78:very dated, cold and somewhat dirty pools, stained bedsheets and towels, and so so breakfast.

Review 79:great location, relatively inexpensive for Petra, room with two double beds (not two small twins).

Review 80:Wifi only available in the lobby...

Review 81:Staff went the extra mile...warm, down to earth and really helpful! Couldn't ask for a better location...and 2 pools in which to cool off after hot days walking!! Great selection at breakfast...that om ali, delicious!

Review 82:Air conditioning did not work and the toilet flush ,echanism was disconnected. Fortunately, it was a cool night and I could get the toilet to flush.

Review 83:Great location within easy walking distance of Petra site entrance. Breakfast was not extravogant but it was tasty.

Review 84:In general, it's a very old hotel. The sheets, blankets, furniture and bathroom equipment (along with the pipes) are probably 50 years old and should be renewed as soon as possible. As for our experience, The lady at the front desk was unfriendly. After making a long journey, we found our bed sheets wet (not damp, wet)! It was very hard to have the room changed and yet, we learned that the hot water would be available some hours later and the cold water was rusty yellow. Although the design is nice, all in all it does not meet the price you pay.

Review 85:The hotel was near Petra entrance. The only helpful staff was the gentleman at the front desk (afternoon shift) who let us use his computer.

Review 86:The only thing I would ding this hotel for is not having wifi in the rooms. I had to go downstairs to use the free wifi in the lobby, and felt embarrassed to have everyone have to listen to my skype conversations.

Review 87:The hotel is very close to Petra. Also it has a pool, although it wasn't warm enough yet when we were there so no one was using it. The staff was friendly and breakfast was quite extensive.

Review 88:We booked two nights but made it not for the first night. The receptionist said it is ok but he will give us another room not telling it it was dibble the price as the first 2 nights together. He should have told us so we would asked for a less expensive one.

Review 89:Bad smell inside the rooms as it was not used for a long time. The staff are very weak and not trained how to act with customers.

Review 90:The location is very good as it's a 5 minutes walk from petra entrance.

Review 91:To improve the bathrooms...inadequate hot water at showers.

Review 92:Close to Petra visitor gate and bus station and sorounded by many restaurants and gift shops.

Review 93:Wifi only in the lobby, some rooms need renovation.

Review 94:perfect location, tidy and nice, helpful staff, big dinner and breakfast! They upgraded us for free, so we were very happy with the experience.

Review 95:Cleanliness, especially from the carpet in the room (seems like it never seen a Hoover/vacuum cleaner), breakfast and cleanliness in breakfast room.

Review 96:Location, pool

Review 97:It's a big hotel, with long walks through clean but anonymous corridors.

Review 98:Big hotel, located a few minutes stroll from the entrance to Petra historical site. Good service from the staff at all levels. Good value for money.

Review 99:Wifi was only available in lobby, food catered to bus tours and was poor quality, bed had had its day long ago, hotel very worn.

Review 100:Location was near the petra park gates

Review 101:Lack of wifi and plug sockets in the bedroom. Very dated decor although serviceable and clean, definitely starting to show its age. Breakfast choice rather limited

Review 102:Friendly and helpful staff and great location

Review 103:We had a Nice and truly large room but the beds were only twins and we barely fit for a Family of 4. It would make sense to have larger beds for such rooms.

Review 104:People were very friendly. They even let us parked in the underground parking while we were hiking Petra.

Review 105:The pool was pretty cold. But then, who comes to Petra for the swimming.

Review 106:200 meters from the entrance to the Petra site. Desk staff was very helpful.

Review 107:EVERYTHING !!! they first try to give us a double room with an extra bed for child in stead of a triple room, the diner was DISCUSTING : a joke !! a shame !! the restaurant crew was impolite and rude, make us pay on the middle of the meal (even if it wasn't late), talking arabian in front of us, the swimming pool are no praticables : dirty and you just can NOT use them, the spa is dirty and cost 20 dinars for just a jaccuzi and a hamman!! the toilets were broken, there is no safe place for your car, just in front of the hotel (if there still places) : a disaster and when i complain the answer has been : "that's how it's work on high season" : ...no comment

Review 108:nothing excpet the fact to go by feet to Petra (what you can do with all others resorts)

Review 109:The Petra Palace is in a fantastic location, only 3 mins walk from the entrance to Petra. The staff were friendly and courteous and spoke excellent English. It was refreshing to return poolside after a hot day walking at Petra.

Review 110:Wifi only in lobby and poor breakfasts but accommodation was really cheap so you have to count with some things.it

Review 111:Good location of this hotel. 2 minutes far from Petra valley entrance and restaurants nearby with nice local food

Review 112:In room tea and coffee making facilities would be good.

Review 113:This is an adequate hotel when you consider that you are out all day at Petra. Very helpful staff. If you are looking for luxury this is not for you.

Review 114:The bed could have been more comfortable (less hard); the rooms were well worn (but clean); while wifi in the lobby worked fine, it would have been nice to access it elsewhere.

Review 115:The location, near Petra; the pools; the friendly night staff who greeted us and offered to put us in two double rooms rather than the family room we'd booked, at the same price; the breakfast buffet.

Review 116:Wifi is only available in the lobby and restaurant area.

Review 117:All hotel staff are just excellent in providing information and giving assistance beyond their scope of responsibilities. Not only front desk but even accounting staff is very helpful.

Review 118:everything was old and dirty, breakfast was really poor and plates weren't clean, not enough food when big group arrive to hotel. Safe in room got broken and we werent been able to access our passport and money etc, - no point of writing about it we stayed in other cheap hotels in Jordan but this one was really bad

Review 119:location

Review 120:There is no tea or coffee making facilities in the rooms.

Review 121:The location is great - an easy walk into Petra. The breakfast is very good. The rooms are large and clean A reasonable price

Review 122:No wifi in the room. The room furniture is a bit outdated as well as allthe hotel decor, maybe a fresh coat of painting will do. If you want touse their spa facilities, even hamman/turkish bath and jacuzzi youhave to pay 10 jod for 30 min, which we found a bit weird as in thedescription of the hotel it said 'offered'. No indoor pool as itwas advertised in the booking site with a picture (8/46) which couldhave been nice to use after one day walking. I can understand you haveto pay for the massage but not to use the steam bath and jacuzzi. Theheated pool is not heated either so we could not use it. A bitdisappointed by this as we were looking forward to relax after a longday in Petra.

Review 123:Excellent location close to the Petra gate, it was very handy after oneday walking around Petra. The hotel is ok for one night or two and it isvery quite as far from the mosque so no muezzin waking you up in theearly hours of the morning and the rooms are facing inward so no streetnoise. We asked double bed but we got two twin beds, anyway it was okfor us. The room is very large and clean. Buffet breakfast is very good, pity about the poor coffee, they better offer turkish coffee. Staff wasvery nice also

Review 124:Wifi only in lobby No toiletries in bathroom apart from soap machine on wall The coffee and juice at breakfast

Review 125:Pool facilities Plenty of space Location Lovely artefacts and photographs in entrance areas

Review 126:The floors are carpeted and seemed a bit shabby. The lobby is not very comfortable or inviting.

Review 127:The staff is well informed and very hospitable. The room was spacious. The bed was terrific. The breakfast had good variety and was tasty. It is close to Three Steps Restaurant, which is the best I've had in Wadi Musa. There is a full bar at this hotel. The price was amazing!

Review 128:Breakfast was very basic and not very fresh; wifi only in hotel lobby

Review 129:Parking right in front of the hotel; walking distance to the entry gate of Petra archeological site

Review 130:The sliding door needed new rollers, you needed the strength Hercules to open the door.

Review 131:The lovely spacious room on the third floor with a sliding door onto the pool terrace with tables and chairs was great. The restaurants were close and there was the Sunrise supermarket next door was very convenient. The refrigerator was great for keeping cold drinks and water for the walk to Petra.

Review 132:The room was noisy (because of air conditioning or lift?) I am not that sensitive to noise in general but this was constant and quite annoying. Blankets could be changed for newer.

Review 133:Great location - very close to Petra Visitor Center which is very useful after all the walking in Petra itself. Good service.

Review 134:Everything else. For sample: - No Wi-fi in room - Restaurant staff unhelpful in facilitating in-room dining. After much convincing they agreed to send one staff to room one time only - In room TV was 1990 model with not one channel clear - VISA Card not accepted for checkout payment, so i had to exchange and pay cash - Food was average quality (not justifying the price)

Review 135:Location.

Review 136:Room was off the pool so rather noisy as people were directly outside bedroom. This meant my curtains and door needed to stay shut in the afternoon to get my privacy. A different location in the hotel may have been better. Good stay for one night though.

Review 137:The hotel was in a good location, staff were extremely helpful and pleasant. Breakfast provided enough food plus variety of eastern and western flavours.

Review 138:Gross! By far the dirtiest hotel I've ever stayed in. Had to change rooms three times on check in to get one without blood stained bed sheets. Avoid like the plague!

Review 139:Hotel badly needs a renovation. Our room, though big and with an excellent balcony, had a missing door to the wardrobe, the other door on the wardrobe had half of it covered in wall paper? which was peeling off. The safety lock on the entrance door was turned the wrong way so it could not be used, and both that door and the bathroom door had pieces coming off them. There was no light on the elevator landing, and though there was a light bulb on the balcony we never found a switch to turn it on. For breakfast be there early or nothing is left as there are no refills made. Be carefull of the china as most of it is chipped, it was difficult to find a bowl with both "ears" intact. If you are looking for wholesome or whole wheat, this is not the place to eat. Cleanliness in the public areas are lacking, dust is piling up especially in the pub and it is overall very dark all around the hotel.

Review 140:Excellent location only a few 100 meters from the entrance to Petra. We were in a large room with a big balcony ( but without light) where we enjoyed the evenings. Request for maintenance was responded to quickly by the staff. Rooms were clean though the public areas was lacking the same attention.
