Reviews for Akko Gate Hostel
Review 1:The beds were like stones, no facilities in the room, everything old and too used, not clean and looks like no one take good care of it since 50 years ago
Review 2:Very nice people with a permanent smile on them
Review 3:The bed was a bit to soft for my personal taste, otherwise everything was perfect
Review 4:The place is run by a super nice family. I was really touched by their friendliness and careness. I can recommend this hostel to anybody who is looking for an authentic, local and welcoming place
Review 5:Excellent location for exploring Akko. The owner Walid and his son were friendly and helpful. The room was simply furnished but clean, comfy and quiet. We enjoyed our stay at the Akko Gate!
Review 6:The place is at the same condition as it was 50 years ago, without any renovation, and absolutely ZERO value for the money you spent. Dust, filthy showers, oily stains and dark unvented rooms. Unprofessional staff, answering basic questions with difficulties.
Review 7:Indeed, the only thing We liked on the above establishment was it's location, which is easy to find, inside the waled old city, but unfortunately this important feature is wasted by ill-management.
Review 8:The place is more a communal home than a hotel. The ensuite room is on 3rd floor after 3 disjointed flights of stairs and corridors, with resident families on-site but detached. The internet doesn't work at all in the room. No tea/coffee in room.
Review 9:Location, very close to Old City, Marina and Bazaar. On-site car park is another big plus.
Review 10:Asked for a refund, then they were not so nice any longer, whoa, what a surprise..same old story. (Managed less than half though:)
Review 11:Good attitude at start, but this place needs more than that, it needs scrubbing.
Review 12:Definitely the place not to be. Horrible welcome, dirty, no cleaning, loudy rooms, unpolite managers who tried to apply an extra commissionduring payment. And it's even not at all cheap!!
Review 13:Niente Nada Nichts nothing
Review 14:perfect place in the center of the old city the location very beautiful the room is very nice and clean free wifi inside the room and the air conditioner and the tv and fridge inside the room working very good . and wonderful welcome and service
Review 15:Dark. Noisy. Risked being electrocuted when plugging fridge. It's run down and not worth the 65$ we paid but bad value for money was allover Israel in August.
Review 16:Location is good. Convenient for all major sites.
Review 17:Old structure that would need a resfreshment, especially for bathrooms and beds. No breakfast nor towels.
Review 18:very good location, in the old city but close to bus stop (5 mins walking), beach (10 mins) and train station (15 mins). The staff is very friendly and wifi works well. Air conditioning very good.
Review 19:The bed was really hard and there is nothing in the room (accessories) Not suitable for more than 2 nights
Review 20:This is a great place for trip with friends. The location is perfect and the staff is very pleasant. If you are more than 2 ask for the "small suite" as we called it : view on akko and third floor with huge balcony.
Review 21:Hair on the sheet and no actual pillowcases, only shams
Review 22:Quirky building, located right in the old city. Staff is eager to please but not always present
Review 23:Very good location (all sights are near and also market Shuk, it is the center of old Akre), very good host. When I was in this hostel, Wallid's (he is owner) grandson worked, he was hospitable and he helped me all time when I needed it.
Review 24:staff was disappointing. No clerk when we arrived, just a guy sleeping on the couch who couldn't help when he finally woke. Also, you need to ask for free parking when you arrive, they won't reimburse you for using the public lot and their parking isn't easy to find
Review 25:cheap.
Review 26:We really enjoyed this place. Great location and price, nice building. Walid, the owner, is very kind and helpful, and great gentleman too! Thank you very much!
Review 27:The room was very dirty (when I arrived the bathroom floor was extremely wet). The toilet was also broken and the AC in my room made very loud squeaking noises. The cleanliness was not up to standard for a hostel.
Review 28:The owner of the hostel is very friendly. The hostel is located in the Old City and is walking distance to all of the main tourist sites in the Old City of Akko.
Review 29:The equipment is old, room is dark and noisy and the bathroom could have been cleaner (mold, needs some renovation).
Review 30:The location is good. The owner and the staff are doing their best to make you feel comfortable (culture-specific). Average breakfast for 25 NIS extra.
Review 31:Bed is very hard, but it was only for one night so it was okay.
Review 32:Three friends stayed for one night. Staff were lovely, and it's great for this price.
Review 33:poor lighting; lower bunk space very cramped, wifi only downstairs in lobby, not in room; no maps of city; sent to tourist info for all specifics like hours, costs, etc.
Review 34:location in old city, owner was plesant,
Review 35:The bed and pillow were hard as bricks (OK, my fault when I didn't ask for another room).
Review 36:It isn't luxurious but nice, somewhat old fashioned but cosy place. The location is perfect for visits to Old City.
Review 37:it is an old structure, so it's a bit decadent and it would need a little renovation. If you're not looking specifically for a love-nest is perfect.
Review 38:We chose the Akko Gate Hostel since it offered a last minute deal, by far cheaper then the others. All in all is a good deal: clean, wifi, hot showers, good beds. The owner is pleasant and helpful with directions and infos.
Review 39:despite owner told us he had to clean our rooms and used aerosol agaist flies, we found bugs in the room
Review 40:hostel is located in old city close to all highlights of akko
Review 41:None
Review 42:We feel welcomed by Walid as if we were part of his family ,he and his family are devoted to their guests,it is a wonderful stay in a beautiful and typical ancient mansion,we are charmed by our stay in this house located perfectly in old Jaffa
Review 43:(Why didn't you publish my last evaluation? Because I slightly criticized booking.com?)
Review 44:Nice and helpful owner, free parking in a very crowded area
Review 45:However, the place is not like a real hotel, there is no soap in the room and they won't make up the room once a day or even provide fresh towels.
Review 46:The old city of Ako is awesome and the location of the ho(s)tel is exellent!
Review 47:Being over charged. Weird, confusing building lay-out. Being charged and additional (after paying too much already) 5% for using my Visa. TV didn't work. Hit my head at several turns due to bad construction layout with ridiculously low overhead ceilings in some common and room areas
Review 48:Nice owner and staff. Location
Review 49:Not much space in the room.
Review 50:Nice place to stay in Akko. The staff is welcoming and serious
Review 51:its not clean and no basic amenities towels toilet paper . no smoking area .
Review 52:Very friendly and helpfull staff :-)
Review 53:The nice owners & the staff. Helpful & friendly.
Review 54:The room was tiny; bathroom stank.
Review 55:Staff were friendly. Location is very convenient in the heart of the old city.

Review 58:Location, Host, WIFI
Review 59:No computers available
Review 60:Excellent location, friendly staff, comfortable room
Review 61:Really nice and welcominig people. Well located, walking distance to the most important places to visit.
Review 62:we had a quiet room upstairs location in the old city close to the market good AC, wifi and shower
Review 63:The room smelt of bog. I paid the same price in Jerusalem for 2 rooms, with breakfast included
Review 64:The guy on the front desk was helpful
Review 65:The hotel felt uncomfortable
Review 66:Location
Review 67:High level of street noise on Friday night. You need ear plugs to sleep.
Review 68:Friendly service
Review 69:the service he gave us and the beds are very uncomfortable
Review 70:That it's in the neighberhood
Review 71:Bathroom did not seem clean. Beds were not comfortable. A lot of street noise in the morning
Review 72:Good location. Friendly owner. Free parking
Review 73:the accomodation, the service
Review 74:a roof over my head and the location
Review 75:Wifi is slow Very noisy Room is old

Review 77:Very nice people and excellent place in the heart od the old city
Review 78:very friendly, even we spent only one night there, we were treat very special. Its a great place, very near all interesting placces in Old Acco.
Review 79:Noisy street under my window
Review 80:location
Review 81:Not really clean, younger staff not too friendly.
Review 82:Location, friendliness of the owner.
Review 83:It was quite expensive for what you have got. No common area that was inviting for use.
Review 84:was nicely located, close to every interesting spot in Akko.
Review 85:300 years old house with all history still there. Great owner to talk to and spend time with. Great surroundings to explore and dive into.
Review 86:Very noisy
Review 87:Good location
Review 88:No towels or blankets. WiFi OK No soap Honestly it just really basic. Be prepared. Or just stay in Haifa etc.
Review 89:Good location. Staff were friendly
Review 90:great location
Review 91:guest house perfectly located for visiting the little town of Akko. Rooms are big, clean and stuff very nice and helpful. definitely raccomended.
Review 92:I booked a room with 4 beds, but they give me a room with 3 beds!
Review 93:The hotel is nice and clean. The manager is very kind and nice. We have had pleasure days here.
Review 94:We wouldn't have stayed here if the much nicer brand new hostel nearby had openings. All the furniture was ugly and appeared to be at least 30 years old. The window (room 7) looked out on a wall. The curtains didn't keep out the morning light. The bed was the hardest I ever slept in -- felt like a gym mat on the floor. Lumpy pillows. Cheap sheets. No water glasses. Breakfast wasn't included. Seemed way over-priced given the quality of the accommodations.
Review 95:The staff was friendly. A/C in the room worked well. There was an actual tub, which is rare in places like this. Free WiFi worked. It seemed clean. It was quiet. Free parking behind building, locked at night for security. Location was fine, given that the Old City is small and you can walk everywhere from anywhere.
Review 96:Our room was to the street and it was very loud even with the windows closed. Our double bed also had a single sheet which can be quite restrictive.
Review 97:The bedrooms were very clean even though the infrastructure is old. The staff were helpful and we enjoyed our stay here apart from a reasonably poor night sleep due to the load noise.
Review 98:WIFI signal was weak. And when connected, it's slower than my handphone's data! Manager didn't seem very helpful either. When asked about the buses to take to Tiberias, he told me I needed to change bus and then told me I should check the internet for the buses to take.
Review 99:Do not go to this place.1. The owner, a man in his late fifties, is constantly touching young female guests and tries to flirt with them. When asking him to stop, he says that we should not be that racist and accept the "friendly Arab" way. His attempts include forcing me to eat from a peach he had partly eaten, grabbing my hand and bringing me to a mirror and saying "Look at the mirror, look how beautiful you are." 2. The owner did not know the prices for the rooms and wanted to charge us more than stated on the booking.com website (more than the double price). He took advantage of an elderly man by charging him five times more than what he charged us... 3. The owner only wanted to let us pay with credit card if we paid 20% more. 4. The room was stinking (Room Nr. 12). 5. After the first night the electricity went off in our room only. The owner yelled at us for several reasons... First we did not use enough warm water, then we did use took much of it, later he told us we were not supposed to use the AC... 6. The owner did not want to give us another room, stating, that all rooms were booked. We saw that they were not... He got very angry at us. Around midnight he offered us to sleep in a dorm that was also smelling very bad. We tried it. However, we started coughing badly... The owner just used pesticides on that room. When telling the owner he said that wet must have eaten something bad and we were to sensible... Unfortunately no other place was available in Akko during that time. Otherwise we would have slept anywhere else.
Review 100:The location is ok.
Review 101:Room was a little noisy but with windows shut and air conditioning on it was ok.
Review 102:Excellent location and parking space reserved for use directly outside. Walid was welcoming and interesting to talk to. Breakfast was good value (albeit an additional charge).
Review 103:towles not clean not usable looks like they dry them on the roof instead of laundery we used our clean T'-shirts as towels.... BYOT Bring Your Own Towels....
Review 104:authentic old city (arab
Review 105:The value for the money was excellent; the demographic of the other travelers was pleasant, easy to relate to, helpful and friendly. The staff was kind. The location allows easy access to delicious shwarma restaurant on the main road through Akko, to the central bus station
Review 106:The place would be so much nicer to stay in if the owner was less arrogant, know-it-all type, not really helpful. Also, the computer area definitely needs cleaning!
Review 107:The location is perfect
Review 108:The place is very run down and the sheet and blankets where clean but looked very worn. There is no ability to cook even though it states it has a kitchen but that I found was common in all the hostels we stated in in Israel. There was a fridge and microwave.
Review 109:The owner was very friendly and helpful. The location was good. There is a bigger hostel near by for the same price. But you would have to put up with a bunch of noisy students running all around.
Review 110:The room was a cold, dark, dirty, evil-smelling hole. Owner very arrogant. Akko Gate Hostel is the worst place i ever stayed in my life!!! Not to recommend...
Review 111:Central in city center.
Review 112:Beds are terrible, shaking and you don't get personal linnen in the dorm. So most likely sharing a woolen blanket with dozens of people.
Review 113:Huge kitchen, well equipped. Akko is a sweet little town stuffed with breathtaking history and the hostel is in an excellent location to most places.
Review 114:Room was quite used - paint was decoritating. Also the bathroom was below (let's say) middle standard.
Review 115:Really great location, free wifi, really nice staff!
Review 116:this is a very low cost place. Do not expect much. It is really not very convenient, very old building, furniture in very bad shape, terrible bed. I don't understand how these other positive impressions that you see come from
Review 117:the owners are nice and welcoming/ The place is cleaner than it seems
Review 118:Blankets without sheets/cover, disgusting smell from the bathroom sink, hard mattress, everything was just very old and worn off.
Review 119:The hosts were really friendly and nice and the location right in the old city was perfect.
Review 120:Close to the market street, which is not quite clean and quiet.
Review 121:Nicely renovated and cosy hostel right at the old gates to the old city. All the landmarks are within 10-15 minute walk.
Review 122:very convenient location just outside the old town of Akko. staff is kind and helpful, shared 6bed room was ok and bathroom ensuite clean. very good value
Review 123:The owner and staff were friendly but really casual about our concerns. The room was basic and dusty. The bathroom was still wet and the trashwasn't emptied out. When we expressed our concern, the owner said"sorry, new years celebrations !!!"
Review 124:When you go to Akko gate hotel you pay for location. Very close to theold city, the souk, Turkish market etc.
Review 125:Hot water wasnt turned on till late at night, TV wasnt plugged in, WIFI went in and out, the sheets and towels seemed dirty or used too many times, beds were creaky and seemed unsteady. not worth 90 ILS a person
Review 126:the location was perfect for a day in the old city
Review 127:Akko gate hostel is in a really good position nearby the old town and realy NOT pricy. The staff in the hostel is really kind and ready to advice to what to do in the city or where to good to have a good lunch or dinner. Walid, the owner of the hostel, is the best in Akko!! Realy thanks to him and their family for their kindness and their helpfulness!
