Reviews for Hotel Bellavista
Review 1:We found the bed and the pillows too hard, and we could hear noise from the plumbing and creaking of wooden floors above and rooms to the sides.
Review 2:Lovely location, close to everything in Mennagio. Lovely view. Kept very clean , typical old style hotel of a bygone era.
Review 3:Double bed made up of 2 singles pushed together, Mattress had ridge in the middle. uncomfortable.
Review 4:Nice Hotel, Lovely location right by the lake. Included breakfast was adequate although it was the same every morning, nothing cooked. Very spacious room with lake view and balcony.
Review 5:Breakfast, too less of choices and foods
Review 6:Location at the middle of menaggio near square whereweasy to find restaurants and bars, and also in the hotel (which will be very good on the rainy night when you hardly go out that far to find something to eat) Staff are helpful Value for money Some rooms already renovated. And everything are new and comfy.
Review 7:Double bed was two single beds pushed together without a mattress topper.
Review 8:Great location on waterfront and in one of the less touristy towns of the lake
Review 9:The restaurant is used by large coach parties for lunches and can be full. Breakfast disappointingly limited. Nothing cooked ; not even boiled eggs. Bread limited. Evening dinner menu disappointing so ate out. Carpet on stairs needs cleaning or replacing !
Review 10:Lovely room good bed very well appointed and furnished excellent view from our room with Balcony Very comfortable with shutters for hot days. Ensuite very good and spotlessly clean with usual toiletries. small cosy lounge with intimate atmosphere included magazines books and small card table. bar available for drinks including tea and coffee. good seating areas inside and out. pool with excellent positioning at the side of the lake. also sun beds.Polite staff
Review 11:The mattress and the pillows were hard as rock. Manager or perhaps owner he barely acknowledge us...rather rude. Breakfast just ok.
Review 12:The lake view from the room
Review 13:The only negative was the bed. I know it's Europe, but don't squeeze two twin beds together and call it a double bed. A couple can't sleep together comfortable. One of us was always on a piece of wood. Also, I'm 6-foot-3 (1.90), which is tall but not abnormal. I had to bend over the toilet to pee without hitting my head. We had a corner room so I guess that can't be helped.
Review 14:The location was perfect and so was the pool. The water was a big cold but that's understandable in September.
Review 15:Please could the elderly owner smile more at his guests
Review 16:We loved the location of this hotel between the ferry and the piazza. The restaurant area and pool was so well placed to enjoy the beautiful views the staff kindly upgraded us for our last night to a free lake view room although we were told in advance not to expect one as we were a late booking. The meLs were good and the relaxed atmosphere very welcome after hectic days
Review 17:Make sure you don't book a room at the street side. Did this accidentally and that's just super noisy and way overpriced compared to other hotels around. Perhaps a lake view room makes sense if you get a good deal, but there's definitely better price/value hotels near by.
Review 18:Directly at the lake, nice view for breakfast and if you have a sea view room
Review 19:Room was very small and very noisey. Bed was rock hard. Breakfast was poor and not replenished.
Review 20:Excellent location and view. Very good and secure private parking in locked garage.
Review 21:Ideal location (the lake, near the centre of the town and the ferry) the view from the hotel, friendly and helpful staff, good secure parking, good food. Overall excellent!
Review 22:Restaurant portions were very small. The appetiser and main dish were about the same size and quantity. Both of us need a gluten free diet, and the restaurant staff ran out of gluten free bread, although we had mailed in advance about it. Before that they kept asking us how many pieced of bread we would like- one bread each?
Review 23:Great location, view and swimming pool.
Review 24:Functional owners and staff, 60's decor
Review 25:Excellent location, central for village and adjacent to ferries. Fabulous breakfast area and swimming pool right by lake waterside
Review 26:The one older lady at front desk. All the other younger staff were great
Review 27:Location was great but the staff and in particular the older skinny woman in the front which is not a manager but thinks she is was rude from the get go. She gave us a room that was musty and a bit noisy so we asked to be moved and she started to speak out loud that is not on your booking! I told her we knew we hadn't indicated that we wanted a quiet room but we would like it now. and if Possible with a lake view. She fussed about it and then asked us to pay more for the change. This bothered me because we had been backpacking through Europe and in every other il hotel they offered us a free upgrade. We didn't even ask. Then when we came to eat at the hotel restaurant she literally shooed us out because we Didn't choose to eat there first. And we were staying there the night. That was embarrassing to be ushered out in such a loud voice. We went to the town and found a little place that provides us with something to eat. Because in medaggio after 8pm they don't serve food anymore just drinks. You would have thought that she would have offered to have something sent upstairs to us if she didn't want us there! I was going to speak with the manager in the morning but we decided not to because he seemed real nice but that lady is going to ruin his hotel. She is rude and unprofessional and should be placed in the kitchen where she doesn't deal with guest. I would not recommend the hotel just because of that bad experience!
Review 28:Breakfast was very poor given the night rate, carpets were dirty, pillows rock hard. Place needs some TLC.
Review 29:Fantastic view and pool. This is so good many of the poor aspects are forgiven.
Review 30:Bella Vista is in a lovely location, right on the lake, and with it's own pool and lakeside restaurant is very pleasant. The staff were friendly and helpful.
Review 31:Some staff not very friendly. Dining room food VERY ordinary! Hard bed, pillow WAY too soft. Breakfast choices well below par.
Review 32:Absolutely fabulous location.
Review 33:everything was fine
Review 34:Superb location - on the water and close to the down town and ferry. Easy to access by car. Very good restaurant in the hotel. Views from the the rooms were amazing as well.
Review 35:Very noisy and weak air conditioning, very difficult to sleep. no fridge in the room. Breakfast is quite poor, no vegetables, no eggs
Review 36:Very good location and fantastic view from the room on the lake. Very nice family running the hotel. Amazing restaurant with the terrace. Close to the ferry port, what is very convenient to see everything around.
Review 37:Breakfast needs some work as the choice wad limited. The public spaces need renovating.
Review 38:Lovely staff and great location. Rooms very clean and newly decorated. Breakfast needs some work as do the public spaces. Overall a nice little hotel that served the purpose of my stay
Review 39:The mature lady- i assume the owner, If you want to work in hospitality, you do not scream at your staff in front of guests, or, in this particular manner, at all! Incredibly innapropriate and unprofessional. The staff were great aswell, completely uncalled for! The only unpleasantness was you! The buildings location and other service staff are the only thing keeping this place alive.
Review 40:The pool area and our rooms were quite modern despite how they looked online.. which was a lovely suprise. The male behind the counter was friendly enough and the rest of staff- cleaning and food service were great but the mature lady who works behind the counter was beyond unpleasant.
Review 41:Location in menaggio is very central but after 9pm, there are no local ferries to bring you back from other towns to menaggio, need to spend money on a taxi if you don't drive
Review 42:2nd time staying here and the rooms were great and hotel pool was nice.
Review 43:No Bad experiences although breakfast could be a little more imaginative ..but plenty to eat and you can always order extras like we did although you do pay extra...
Review 44:I booked this hotel for it's position on the lake and I wasn't disappointed in fact I think the Bellavista has the BEST position in Menaggio !! Our room overlooked the lake ..book an upper level room for the best views...pool was great as it was so hot and they do provide towels which was a bonus ..all in all excellent great choice.!!!
Review 45:There seem to be rules that are not communicated to guests very well- don't pick your own table at breakfast, keep your pool towels for reuse even if they are soaking wet. Just created a couple of uncomfortable moments but I would still definitely recommend this hotel.
Review 46:Lovely big room that had been recently renovated. We were able to stay and swim in the pool as long as we liked after checkout, which was great!
Review 47:Wifi was a bit dodgy on the top floor. Pillows were like rocks.
Review 48:Views over the lake from the room, the restaurant and the pool, close to the ferry stop, swimming pool was a great way to cool off, tasty breakfast, friendly staff. Wish I could have stayed longer.
Review 49:The bed and pillow were the most uncomfortable thing for a pregnant woman. I complained immediately to my husband and it wasn't long before he joined in on hating the pillows. When I read the reviews before we booked, I honestly didn't think I'd care about an uncomfortable bed/pillow, but it did make for extra long nights trying to fall asleep. The rooms were clearly recently updated and nice, but it felt as if they were slowly updating the rest. The restaurant was SO overpriced and a limited menu; very disappointing because I felt as if it didn't quite live up to the rest of the hotel and the vibe it seems like it is going towards.
Review 50:Location and quiet! Not that we are trying to avoid children or anything, but we loved how quiet the area and hotel ended up being the entire weekend. Ferry was right around the corner and the center with restaurants was about 100 meters out the door, too.
Review 51:Reception staff very unhelpul and miserable. Hard beds, hard pillows room needed updating. No curtains but shutters outside. Was given an old room, floor creaky.
Review 52:Good position, super view heated towel rail. good maids and porter. Mostly delightful waitresses. Nice pool overlooking Lake
Review 53:Breakfast buffet was ok but could be slightly richer. Eggs cost extra (?). It would be nice if fruit salad was served. Hotel bar closes early.
Review 54:Friendly staff. Nice rooms. Hotel garage available to park motorcycles and cars. The main village square is just around the corner from the hotel. Great restaurants nearby.
Review 55:The location was close to everything and beautiful view from our balcony. Very simple room and small and pay only for the location but it good enough for a place to just sleep. Nothing "bad" just average and staff doesn't offer to help with anything but aren't rude when you ask them either.
Review 56:The terrace for breakfast was lovely but the food was the least impressive of all I stayed at. There was nothing hot, not even hardboiled eggs. Being gluten intolerant except for the fruit there was nothing I could have. They had one type of sliced meat and one type of slice (more processed looking) cheese then the regional fare of other similar hotels. Several I stayed at not only had hard or minute eggs, but also scrambled whether on the buffet or to order, all included in the price. The location of their restaurant was ideal, with an exquisite view, but even for their dinner service the menu was not impressive at all.
Review 57:The room for single was very small but the furniture and bathroom was very well decorated and bathroom nicer then most in this price range and the furniture chic.
Review 58:some of staff need seem crabby need to smile learn how to be gracious..bed is as hard you can feel springs it was a long night
Review 59:Great lacation good breakfast
Review 60:The room had obviously only just been redocorated as it was stunning. I was more than impressed and as someone who has stayed in 6 different hotels over the last 10 days I am well informed :-)
Review 61:My son and I enjoyed our time there. I hadn't been to Italy since 1978 and had not been to Lake Como before. My maternal grandparents came to New Zealand from Sorrento so feel linked to Italy. We enjoyed the fact that it is so easy to travel around and the cost is very reasonable.
Review 62:The food was terrible the service starting at the top was very poor the four of us would never return the woman in charge was very rude. .zing ga
Review 63:The view was very nice it is close to everything
Review 64:Bad atmosphere. The owners were an older couple that never smiled and itcascaded down to all of the empolyees. Not much fun at this hotel. Foodwas the worse we had on our trip. Was not worth the money we paid.
Review 65:Great view of Lake Como from our balcony. Close access to tour boats ofLake Como.
Review 66:For the first few days we stayed in a roadside room. Very noisy and busy road. I had read other reviews commenting on attitude of some staff/owners to be not so friendly - and found this to be correct. Wifi was very difficult to connect to and became frustrating. Breakfast was basic and not value for price.
Review 67:Location is excellent, right on the lakeside. Rooms on the lakeside have a fabulous view and are quiet and clean. Cleaning staff were very nice and friendly.
Review 68:This is the first time I will write a bad very bad review to an Italian hotel. I don't understand why this hotel gets good reviews. It's fair to say that due to the location, the pool and the balconies with view to the lake, give the hotel big thumbs up, but really people, this place is terrible !!We decided to stay on the "cheap" side of the hotel, which is the rooms with street view rather than lake view, since we dont really care about "view" If you want view go an walk along the river, dont you think? Oh Lord!!! The worst sleeping time we ever had! I dont even know where to start!! First of all the rooms on that side of the hotel are so dated, a good example of that is the TV that somehow I have ever seen in my entire life, and the control, dirty as in very dirty, of course we didnt even touch it! However, we saw that the rooms with "lake view" are a bit modern so that made us think that they are definitely not interested in invest few euros in upgrade the rooms but they do overcharge you!The lets start with the bed, the things that they put on the bed that simulate pillows are like concrete bricks. I still cannot figure out what the lumps at one end of the bed are meant to be used for.If you are over 165cm tall consider bringing your own blow-up mattress. Otherwise your feet will get wet sticking out the window.Shower, well, consider using the outdoors shower at the swimming pool because the ‘en-suite shower’ is a very small cabinet with a hose to clean your feet (one at a time).Carpets haven't been clean in ages, or maybe I just did not get the stains / leopard motif look.Bottom line - if you are still keen on booking a hotel in Menaggio you will be better off staying in a different hotel. Now about the staff. I stated on the positive, the young lady at the reception and the doorman, oh yes!
Review 69:Young lady at reception and doorman are very kind. Pool OKish. That is all!
Review 70:Elderly woman (owner?) not very friendly.
Review 71:Fantastic location right by the lake in beautiful Menaggio. Well working AC Good breakfast Nice and clean rooms Parts of the staff very friendly Free parking just outside the hotel (garage costs 10 EUR per day) Computer and printer could be borrowed
Review 72:Reception staff, I think the two elderly owners, should be happy to greet there customers.
Review 73:The hotel was very clean and the views from our balcony were amazing. Don't expect to be greeted warmly but that doesn't matter as the hotel location is spot on.
Review 74:Leaving!!
Review 75:Excellent location, right on the lake and close to ferry and bus. Our room (201, I think) was clean and spacious with a lovely new bathroom. For us worth the upgrade to a lake view room with balcony, but can also enjoy the amazing view from public areas of the hotel. Hope to return one day.
Review 76:Pillows were like flat lumps of clay, on the second night we asked for soft pillows and got flat feather pillows with not much substance. If you are glutin intolerant they don't understand it, but there is a pharmacy right across the road that you can buy a heart stopping range of glutin free items!!
Review 77:Location is very good especially to ferry and water taxi services. Little balconette very romantic
Review 78:Pillows are like concrete bags. The roadside rooms must be very noisy. Not always friendly attitude of management.
Review 79:The view (if room on lakeside). Location in the centre of town. Parking place available.
Review 80:Not the friendliest and i do speak reasonable Italian. Restaurant overpriced - better value and atmosphere in town though without the view if you have table on the terrace
Review 81:Location location location
Review 82:The owners seem to have lost interest in their guests!! They were able to smile for locals in the restaurant but the Hotel guests appeared to have become invisible!!
Review 83:The position is fantastic, the junior/general staff are warm and helpfull.
Review 84:No room service / pool service option Staff was mostly comprised of menopausal older women who didnt smile much or were very abrupt in their reactions and answers, and were mostly in a frantic state which stresses the guests Check out time was at 11am, could be at noon
Review 85:Amazing location, with a stunning view of the lake. Great pool but you are not allowed to bring drinks (except bottled water) there Rooms were clean, modern and spacious - definitely recommend a room with the lake view Wifi was surprisingly strong
Review 86:Grumpy staff, very non professional and as if every request was a bother to them. Rooms were the most disappointing with the smallest showers ever, really uncomfortable beds and very noisy - had to keep windows open for air!! If you want your room made up you had better fit in with housekeeping!
Review 87:Lovely restaurant area overlooking bay. Probably a family run hotel and was at a 'special rate' although I wouldn't have paid 'full rate for it'.
Review 88:Small room Tied decor Unusable en-suite with broken fittings noisy location on side next to road. Staff not really bothered
Review 89:Pool but told you can't use if after 7
Review 90:Old and very basic room and brass - similar to *, ** stars motels. Room with street view are very loudy. In order to Park in the hotel parking space you'l have to pay 10¢ and Day and walk two floors Down without elevator (the parking is near the hotel, Not beneath! ) And open by yorself the Gates Breakfast costs 10¢ a person and is very basic, noy worth the money
Review 91:Location by the sea shore .
Review 92:We did have to close the shutters to keep out the early morning light, this made the room warm but there is air con so it was not too much of a problem
Review 93:This hotel Is in a perfect position right on the edge of the lake, it has a nice swimming pool, a lovely seating area overlooking the lake to sit and eat or have a drink. The staff are friendly and helpful and the rooms are clean and comfortable,
Review 94:Owners not the most friendly but can't say that spoiled our stay also we could have done with extra pillows
Review 95:Perfect location and a view out of this world ,room spotlessly clean also bedding and towels changed regularly ,food good and the outlook from restaurant beautiful
Review 96:No iron or ironing board. WiFi kept dropping. €6 euro's a beer when same bottle was €1.60 30yards away in supermarket (by Ferry entrance)
Review 97:Private secure garage, Free Wifi, Lake side view, Very close walking to restaurants, no need to get motorbikes out of garage. Very helpful young staff.
Review 98:Bedroom was a little outdated but still comfortable and nice and the bathroom ironically is ultra modern and huge. Great hotel overall, really happy with our stay.
Review 99:Great location, right beside boat taxi and beside Menaggio's main piazza's. Staff were so nice, couldn't have been more friendly or helpful.
Review 100:Soundproofing and plumbing between rooms was a little noisy and the decor was perhaps a little tired but this is only a minor gripe and probably added to the character of a friendly hotel.
Review 101:Literally on the lake shore and right next to one of the few towns on the west of the lake that dorsnt have the main road running between the properties and the lakeside, Bella Vista is ideally located. The rooms were comfy - lake view is a spectacular must. Street view rooms are a little noisy. The staff were always there and always helpful. Some may look a little grumpy but nothing was too much trouble and they worked hard. The restaurant menu changed daily and was of excellent quality. The pool was cold but quiet and never too busy. The 20 second stroll into the village with nice cafés and lakeside walk was virtually traffic free. Being fairly small, the staff got to know you and ordering good and drinks was very relaxed. The location is perfect for getting the ferry to other parts of the lake and over to Lugano (Switzerland). Overall a friendly week in a great location.
Review 102:Very small rooms... a small single room was turned into a twin bed room. No sound proofing. Traffic noise disturbed our sleep besides uncomfortable bedding. Limited comfort amenities/toiletries. One has to constantly ask for them. Over priced especially when considering that one has to pay extra for breakfast which simply included cereal, croissant & tea. Needs refurbishment.
Review 103:The morning view of Lago di Como from the Bellavista restaurant is breathtaking. Very central to Mennagio's square and activity hub. Optimal cleansing throughout.
Review 104:The hard lumpy pillows and the constant sound of flushing toilets and showers. We were in room 102 and perhaps there was a water pipe next to our room.
Review 105:The room and the view from the terrace and the restaurant
Review 106:It's quite expensive and not to much to do in Menaggio.
Review 107:We've got the room with big balcony or better say patio on the restaurant roof. Room itself is nice and clean but if it wasn't the view at the lake wouldn't let us notice any issues :) We ordered parking spot and it was underground parking in the building next to the hotel.
Review 108:Hotel staff ignored us apart from when serving meals etc. We felt like we were causing them a problem by being there.
Review 109:Location is great, right on the lake-front. Swimming pool is on the lake-side - great.
Review 110:At the price a continental breakfast could be included. Wifi is slow and keeps dropping out.
Review 111:Proximity to ferries and buses. Magnificent views and beautiful surroundings. Staff very helpful and room comfortable.
Review 112:The furnishing and decoration in the room were very old. The pillows were hard as rock. Breakfast was very simple, only few items.
Review 113:The location of the hotel is perfect. It is right by the lake and you have the most beautiful views when having breakfast on the terrace. Swimming pool is also on the lake side. Bus stops and ferry are very close. You can take a bus to Breglia and make a hiking trip to Rifugio Menaggio and to a viewpoint called Pizzo a Coppa. Very beautiful view!
Review 114:Limited menu for the health conscious. They offer the same menu forbreakfast lunch and dinner, also no minibar or room service.
Review 115:Best location to stay in Managgio. Close to the ferries etc. Alllakeside rooms all have balconies with just incredible views. Atticrooms (4th Floor) are less expensive and not as spacious but still verynice and their balconies are far more private than those on lowerfloors, as they're cut into the roof. The entire hotel is trulyclean, all towels and sheets are 100 % cotton. They have reasonably fastand free internet, although only during hours when most guestswouldn't be online- still, a rare and welcome surprise anywhere inEurope. Also really nice staff. Their beautiful restaurant overlooks thelake, prices are more than fair.
Review 116:The staff were awful!! Spoils the whole visit!!
Review 117:Lake-front view and panorama of Lago di Como. Noise in hotel was firmly and efficiently dealt with.
Review 118:rooms recently renovated, so very clean and fresh.
Review 119:Pillows are a little hard- but we brought our own.
Review 120:Awesome location! Balcony lake view room was a great deal! Breakfast was fine-
Review 121:Good location and breakfast
Review 122:Great location for the ferry and the town. Great Views, good food, friendly staff.
Review 123:Location and views
Review 124:The food in restaurant was terrible, the room was very small and there was a very bad smell
Review 125:uncomfy bed, flat pillows, not much choice for breakfast.
Review 126:Location, nice friendly and helpful staff.
Review 127:Very poor breakfast No interaction with reception staff
Review 128:Location and the view perfect Lovely modern room
Review 129:Excellent acceuil Situation optimale
Review 130:The size of the room and the obstructed bacony
Review 131:Location and pool.
Review 132:Beautiful location, quiet hotel, lovely pool.
Review 133:Nothing
Review 134:My girlfriend is a no sugar quest.. There was nothing about no sugar!!!
Review 135:perfectly placed for our lakeside experience. Secure garage parking for our motorcycle.
