Reviews for Petra Guest House Hotel
Review 1:No replenishment of mini bar or coffee/tea on second day, possibly would have been done if requested but shouldn't have to ask!
Review 2:Location, Cave Bar, Staff
Review 3:rooms get really cold in winter
Review 4:I really recommend this place. It is just a few meter away from petra main entrance, the staff is friendly and very helpful. Rooms are spacious and private.
Review 5:Breakfast was okay. Only coffee and tee were included. If you want to have a cappuccino you need to pay extra.
Review 6:The Hotel is literally at the entrance of Petra ancient city. Room was clean and comfortable.
Review 7:We had a room, which could have been connected to the neighbouring one. The doors between the two rooms were unlocked, while the other room was occupied (the door was promptly locked by the staff, once we asked them).
Review 8:The staff was helpful, the room was spacious and well equipped. The hostel is really at the gate to Petra. The breakfast looked fabulous. The USD and EUR exchange rates at the reception were unfavourable, but still reasonable.
Review 9:This hotel is literally at the entrance to Petra and is a friendly and good value place to stay whilst visiting. The staff were all superb, rooms clean and comfortable and the food is very good (we had our Xmas dinner here). Would definitely recommend it.
Review 10:tired rooms and staff, poor and overpriced food in main restaurant, loud music/no atmosphere in otherwise rather special cave-bar-
Review 11:Location, but not much else
Review 12:dinner and breakfast in main restaurant poor, staff at reception very rude - we arrived at 2pm, were keen to visit Petra before sun-set, and they delayed the check-in process, similar palaver on check-out
Review 13:location
Review 14:Dinner in the main restaurant was mediocre and over-priced, best to be avoided. We should have tried the cave-barbecue. Main complaint is about the attitude of general manager and night staff to a problem, which arose through the night - the bathroom door locked itself, could not be accessed from the outside. The reception did not respond on the phone, but once we found someone, he provided us immediately with a tool to open the door from the outside - a problem known to the management, but they don't appear to be bothered about fixing it. For us, it was a disturbed night sleep.
Review 15:Location is excellent, just at the entrance to Petra, which makes it a busy place though with lots of through traffic, not very tranquil. The rooms starting with 300 are very nice, located on the hill, with beautiful views and some with terraces, whereas the rooms in 1st and 2nd floor or main building are rather faded.
Review 16:Used the hotel recommended "Travel Agent" to book airport transfer and a Wadi Rum trip. It was the worst "guided trip" I've ever taken. It seemed that rather than a travel agent, it was a group of buddies trying to make some extra cash - my opinion based on the experience (they also made me pay in cash and couldn't give me a receipt for the trip).
Review 17:The perfect location!
Review 18:buffet wasnt the best very low quality and hap hazard in arragenment few lights in the room were not working
Review 19:they agreed to allow us late checkout without much trouble
Review 20:We were very thirsty at 11:00 pm and asked room service for water and they wouldn't serve us cause they said it was too late. Wasn't easy especially that it was around 4 degrees outside.
Review 21:Great location.
Review 22:Breakfast was a little understaffed. Beds weren't five star but for one night and after a day's trekking who really notices when you are falling into it.
Review 23:Nothing like the Cave Bar; where else could you have a glass of red wine or beer in a 2000yo tomb?, proximity to park was excellent, especially as I was travelling with my elderly father.
Review 24:Excellent location. Rooms are more like private chalets which was cool, very spacious. Only stayed one night but was very pleasant. We stayed over in December which is low-ish season and therefore got a really good room rate. Staff were very friendly and helpful.
Review 25:signage from the main road have no light. i informed the reception and suggested them to put some lights because it looks like a dead end. i cant really locate it from my gps and just realize that it is the old location of crowne plaza hotel. a bit of problem with the internet and they cant do anything about it. you just have to wait and pray that the luck will be with you so you will be connected.
Review 26:great location. nearest hotel to petra entrance. good food and cave bar is just downstairs.
Review 27:Food was adequate but not outstanding. Breakfast on the second day was a bit more limited than the first but in fairness we were there in mid-December so not exactly high season. Great time to visit Petra though.
Review 28:The perfect place to stay to visit the historic site. Couldn't get closer! You do a lot of walking in the historic site itself so having the accommodation so close was a definite bonus. Drinking in the Cave Bar built into the Nabatean rock-cut tomb was a first!
Review 29:The standard of the food served at the evening buffet was absolutely terrible and was significantly overpriced at 14JD per person. The food served at the Cave bar was better.
Review 30:The location is the best thing about the guest house - it is a 2 minute walk to the ticket kiosk and entrance to Petra. The rooms are comfortable but need refurbishment.
Review 31:Unhappy workforce Limited breakfast spread Poor wifi access Room provided was on 1st floor with 50 steps to climb with luggage and kids!
Review 32:Excellent location Big rooms and bathrooms Good dining options nearby
Review 33:many issues considering the high price. Staff was very unfriendly. WIFI not working properly in any of our 5 devices. Restaurant was a disaster (no glasses, lack of staff, coffee cold, etc). Also, hot water was not working well in one of the rooms and they had to come and fix it. We asked for two rooms next to each other and they did not manage to get it for us (they were relatively close so my wife and I had to split).
Review 34:Location was great at the entrance of Petra
Review 35:To many places with indoor smoking. Food and drinks were way way way over priced for what you actually got. Fixtures a bit worn down.
Review 36:Great location to Petra.
Review 37:The hotel is not ergonomic at all. Average breakfast. Smal king size bed(max 1.6 m width). Very bad wi-fi in the rooms. Cold due to a bad air con system installed in the whole part of mountain challets(on heating mode, the aircon was functioning for 5 minutes and then stopping for 15 minutes).
Review 38:Perfect location, right in front of Petra's entrance.
Review 39:The smells that come through when the bathroom exhaust was turned on.
Review 40:This is a truly delightful property to stay at especially if you are not so very agile and wish to spend a lot of time within Petra..
Review 41:Dirty bathroom (room 361: blood on the door, lock didn't work). No Wifi reception in the room. Pictures didn't match the property. Slightly over priced.
Review 42:Location, cave bar, free parking.
Review 43:Modernized electrical outlet situation. More of them, less British style and more standard 2-prong European/Asian style.
Review 44:Location is, of course, the best in the city. Literally right next to the gate to Petra.
Review 45:Rooms are fine but not the luxury you expect from a Crown Plaza and certain elements could use an upgrade. The dinner buffet is underwhelming.
Review 46:Location and customer service is everything at this hotel which make for an incredible Petra experience. The Cave bar is the best place in Petra for food and drinks in the evening. The buffet breakfast is great and just what you need before a day of hiking. The hotel has a relaxed feel to it which is nice - compared with the Movenpick which feels much more upmarket and a little bit pompous.
Review 47:Strong smell of the kitchen during the breakfast, upon the check in the bathroom wasn't clean. I was sweating during all nights despite the airco, because the mattress had plastic cover?! under the sheet. No pool
Review 48:Location
Review 49:The staff were rude, the food in the Cave Bar was below standard and the room was shabby for the price. We expected more. Additionally we were told we could access Crowne Plaza facilities (pool and gym) but then found out they were closed.
Review 50:The location was perfect - as close to Petra gate as possible.
Review 51:- Plugs did not all work unless you kept the main entrance light on. If the light was turned off, the plugs would not charge devices or camera batteries, etc. The hotel sent maintenance and they blamed my charger but in the end it was the light switch and not the charger.
Review 52:- Closest hotel to Petra entrance. - Secure parking. - Great breakfast. - Good staff. - Rooms were just average but who cares.
Review 53:restaurant could focus a bit more on local food. jordan offers a bit more, but maybe a concession to international travellers.
Review 54:excellent service and perfect location next to petra entrance. the cave bar is a must of course.
Review 55:The outlook of the bungalows with pink balustrades (they look ugly, considering the uniqueness of the Cave Bar next to them).
Review 56:Location (closest hotel to the entrance of antique Petra), Cave Bar
Review 57:The hotel is located at the entrance of Petra. It was very convenient. The staff were very friendly and attentive. I highly recommend this hotel if you want to explore Petra!
Review 58:The no free internet was a problem as its becoming a major neccessity very much like electricity & hot water. I would recommend revising that policy as most guest are non jordanians with no 4G access and the room rate is high.
Review 59:Perfect location .. At the exact entrance & starting point of Petra site. Spacious rooms and new in general.
Review 60:If you're sensitive and allergic to strong fragrances, you'll have to air it your room before entering. Also, tissue could have been replenished sooner.
Review 61:The location is excellent. It's just a few steps away from Petra.
Review 62:The hotel needs attention... It's is a bit outdated and the breakfast is poor. We stayed in a triple room (they are very proud of it because you have a great view) and the room was not a in a good shape... It is expensive for what they offer, I guess the price is high because is next to Petra, but there are other hotels very close to it in a much better shape.
Review 63:Location, just next to Petra. The Cave bar outside the hotel is a very cool place to hang out after walking in Petra (cold beer and excellent drinks).
Review 64:it was said on the commercial in my room that the bar has meat night and babique night but actually they stopped to do that during my stay.
Review 65:everything. excellent location, super nice stuff, great room, breakfast facinating. and the bar is also very nice.
Review 66:The room was a bit dated, but still very comfortable and clean.
Review 67:Friendly staff, great location right next to the entrance into Petra, large room with outdoor terrace.
Review 68:Food at Cave Bar was not very good--expensive, but didn't seem fresh or hot.
Review 69:Loved chalet room with comfortable room and bed. Loved location near Petra entrance.
Review 70:We had a wonderful stay at Petra Guest House! They have a fantastic location adjacent to the Petra entrance, five-star staff and service, and great meals in the most romantic setting imaginable. The off-season price was also a great bargain.
Review 71:Concierge arranged Turkish bath, however when we arrived at the place, we were told no female personnel was available and recommended to do so by men. If there is no women available, concierge should have informed us rather than set us up to it. As the hotel made a booking with Al Yakhor turkish bath,we couldn't cancel and we were forced to take a service (at difference place with women). I will not recommend arranging turkish bath at the hotel. There are several in town and you can find it easily.
Review 72:The location was perfect. It was at the entrance so we could go back easily and there are shops around so we could buy souvenir easily. Hotel staff were nice and helpful. Also they have upgraded us to bigger room.
Review 73:Reception needs to communicate better with the breakfast concierge. Otherwise no complaints.
Review 74:Location is right at the entrance to petra. Very accomodating staff, easily comparable to comfort of a 5 star hotel minus the pool, but who is in petra to swim?
Review 75:The AC automatically stops every few minutes. I was woken up by the heat and humidity while sleeping in the night.
Review 76:Staff are very friendly. Right next to the entrance of Petra. Excellent location. Averall good service.
Review 77:The location. Right next to the Petra. entry gate. The breakfast was excellent with a large choice of both local and western food. The Cave Bar was part of the complex selling alcohol and nonalcoholic drinks. Staff were very pleasant and helpful. on alcoholic
Review 78:The Wifi wasn't as strong of a signal as I would like it to be. But to be fair, if you're at Petra, you shouldn't be spending time on the internet!
Review 79:The location is exceptional and the staff are extremely friendly.
Review 80:The only thing I didn't like is that there's no pool or spa. I would have loved to take a nice swim or a massage after a really long and tiring Petra tour.
Review 81:I loved the cleanliness, bed comfort, and location. Great hotel to stay in.
Review 82:Very friendly and helpful staff. We were given a very nice room with a large porch overlooking the entrance valley to the ancient site. The location of the Hotel directly next to the entrance to Petra was a great advantage. Recommended!
Review 83:One afternoon and then again at 04:30 and 05:30 an emergency alarm sounded stating that we had to evacuate immediately. During the afternoon alarm we did just that but received no explanation or information from staff. During the night, the alarm was quietened soon after it sounded (but still woke us up with a start on each occasion). The breakfast was pretty poor (no buffet, rather eggs, processed meat and some rather dry pastries were brought to the table). I suspect this was because it was low season. The room was a little tatty and the a/c unit in the room noisy.
Review 84:This hotel is the closest that you can stay to Petra without actually being inside the gate. (This said, the other nearby hotels are only about 100m away). Staff were polite and helpful. Before we arrived, a member of staff had organised a pick-up from the Israeli border for us. On request, a packed breakfast was made for us (so that we could get to Petra first thing).
Review 85:Nothing I can think of. It was low season so everything was quiet. it would be nice if they had an ATM
Review 86:Staff was awesome. We had two connecting rooms, both of which were spotless. I couldn't have had a better experience, especially for the price
Review 87:Wifi is poor in the room, but my room has a nice terrace so I just sit out when I need to use Wifi.
Review 88:This hotel has quite high standard of facilites and staff. If you want to be safe, in terms of food hygene, the hotel bar and restaurant is where you should eat.
Review 89:-Lunch buffet and Dinner menu options could be better - Not a 24 hour room service for food. Would have been great otherwise. - Better Wi-fi connectivity
Review 90:- Prompt staff - Great location of the hotel at the foot of Petra! - Good food - Nice live music in the night - Good restaurant (The Cave) - Ideal surroundings - Good hygiene
Review 91:Great location and really nice staff. The cave bar is really something to see. And a few nice little restaurants just up the road. And the park entrance is literally next to the hotel.
Review 92:The wi fi had constant drops and signals were poor. The bed was very uncomfortable. The hotel staff could have been more friendly and courteous.
Review 93:The location is good. The room was spacious and clean.
Review 94:Within this price range, you can't beat PGH. Literally, you are to the right of the entry gate to Petra. The breakfast is excellent for level of hotel and the rooms are spacious and air-conditioned. The staff is most helpful especially Stefan who is the head of the staff for "The Cave." The Cave is a lovely place to enjoy an after touring day or to cap off the evening.
Review 95:One of the main photos of the hotel's page on Booking.com with alovely terrace with sun sails is actually of their restaurant in adifferent location (within Petra), it's not an actual photo of thehotel. The photo looks beautiful and is one of the reasons we picked thehotel The breakfast was ok but not brilliant, staff could be moreattentive, some things are extra and over priced. Apart from thecourtyard and cave, rest of hotel lacks atmosphere
Review 96:Location - a few minutes walk from Petra's entrance The bar in anoriginal tomb is pretty cool if a little controversial The main terracearea has a nice atmosphere
Review 97:No complaints!
Review 98:The hotel is in an amazing setting at the Entrance to Petra. Beautiful interior, quiet and beautiful rooms. Very friendly staff. Very helpful getting us a taxi to see Wadi Musa and back to the airport.
Review 99:AMAZING location. Clean hotel with nice furnishings. Hotel has been updated. I preferred this property to the more expensive Movenpick, located next to the Petra Guest House.
Review 100:literally on the Petra door step - rooms basic but clean and comfortable. Staff were exceptional - welcoming, policy, prompt with service and nothing too much trouble - Could not be happier .
Review 101:I booked 3 rooms on booking.com but when we arrived at 1 a.m. after a long drive from Amman only 2 rooms were available. No apology, just take it or leave it so given the situation we were obliged to take. Although it uses the Crowne Plaza logo and claims to be part of IHG, it refused to give me award nights and points for IHG Priority Club loyalty scheme.
Review 102:Cave bar should offer more local food options in the evening rather than just a snack menu to take it to the next level.
Review 103:Great staff. So helpful and welcoming. Great bar for a drink after a hard day's walking. Food was freshly made using local ingredients. Very well done all round!
Review 104:Quite a few tour groups coming through, although that didn't impact us too badly. Thats Petra rather than the hotel!
Review 105:The courtyard was lovely. The food and service was great. The location was fantastic.
Review 106:A little dated. For the same price the Movenpick is across the road and way more luxury.
Review 107:The location - right next to the entrance to Petra. The hospitality of the staff and willingness to please especially Khalid.
Review 108:- Internet took a little to connect but once it did it was fine.
Review 109:- Location: amazing after a long day of hiking to have the hotel right there - Breakfast was quite nice - Staff were very accommodating - Room was very clean, spacious, and comfortable
Review 110:Great hotel so close to the main gate to Petra. We had the outside chalet rooms this time which were very comfortable but on our last visit the inner room was somewhat more compact. The name 'Guest House' is deceptive to an English visitor!
Review 111:Unfortunately, even the bed sheets were clean, we have been awake by an horrible smell at 2.00am due to extremely dirt of the bed aleze (mattress protector) ! Those conditions of hygiene are not acceptable at all ! The executive assistant manager came himself to notice that disaster. The food is also very poor. Only local food buffet, no menu list, no effort made to satisfy foreign tourists. It is so sad !
Review 112:Given that it takes 30 seconds to walk to nearby eateries, I'd give the hotel buffet a miss.
Review 113:Delightful staff. Attractive property with lovely room and great beds.
Review 114:We rented 3 rooms for our group and one was a smoking room even though we requested non smoking.
Review 115:It was right at the entrance to Petra so we were able to walk everywhere. The cave restaurant was a perfect atmosphere and breakfast was good. They let us check in 3hours early which was wonderful.
Review 116:Clean room, reasonably comfortable, hot showers - and as close to the entrance to Petra as you can be, which was perfect for us. Free wi-fi and surprisingly great pancakes at breakfast (alongside the standard Jordanian selection) were good bonuses.
Review 117:Tall guy with sneer at reception when I checked in looked like he'd rather be somewhere else.
Review 118:Location is unbearable. Breakfast was meh. Porter (who got my Petra at Night ticket) was friendly and hospitable, as was the man at the desk when I checked out.
Review 119:The wifi would go in and out but that's really the only thing I could think of that was top rate.
Review 120:We were greeted and welcomed by friendly staff. The location was superb. Really enjoyed having a nice breakfast before we went out for the day and a comfortable bed waiting at night. The cave bar was a nice place to unwind. Highly recommend this hotel!
Review 121:The guesthouse is located right at the top of Wadi Dana reserve with spectacular views and access to amazing trails. The staff is friendly and helpful, the food is the local home-cooked type.
Review 122:There wasn't anything in particular that we didn't like.
Review 123:The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The facilities are limited, but very clean and in the most ideal spot after the touring the wonderful ruins.
Review 124:The hotel is very close to Petra and that was much appreciated at the end of 10 hours of climbing the rocks. Our room was spacious and had a nice feel about it. The staff was very helpful and friendly
Review 125:For the price, the rooms could have been more light and airy. Perhaps the couple is too low down to provide the stunning views of the mountains that others might
Review 126:Service from staff is top draw, and no request is too much. Food again is brilliant and the restaurant discount for the Petra Basin facility makes it even better.
Review 127:Nothing
Review 128:It snowed in Petra while we were there :). The site was closed for one day which wasn't a problem because there is an amazing open fire in the lobby of the Guesthouse where we sipped hot chocolate and used the free wifi.
Review 129:The staff made us feel welcome immediately and assisted in getting our night trail tickets sorted at short notice. The location is absolutely spot on and very convenient after a long walking trip!
Review 130:The bed was not that comfy.
Review 131:The location was amazing, right by the gates of Petra. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The food in the restaurant was good and well priced.
Review 132:Beef burger not so beefy- I was sure there was lamb in it, but staff checked with chef. Still, avoid 'beef' burger.
Review 133:The staff were lovely. Entrance right at gate to Petra- none closer. Bed so comfortable, and so clean. Bathroom products delightful.
