Reviews for Hotel Ristorante Corona
Review 1:We gave this hotel a fantastic review a year ago - just shows how things can change, this time very disappointed in our 2 night stay. Member of staff offered riverside room at excessive supplement - I had requested a back room on booking but didn't appear to have received the email offering us a cheaper price if I had booked in advance. This was knocked down gradually to an extra 14 euro per night (which we only agreed to knowing the front of the hotel is quite noisy),this was without free Wifi -that was extra, although it didn't work in our room anyway so we refused to pay for that. Sadly there is no restaurant now which was partly why we rebooked - apparently the kitchen was damaged due to winds back in March, so the information about it online is totally inaccurate and out of date. The desk was often unmanned, in fact had to wait for ages to check out as nobody around, although rang bell several times. The hotel is very tired looking and seemingly neglected - such a shame.
Review 2:Could use facilities at sister hotel Breakfast & cappuccino Off road parking
Review 3:Pictures of the hotel on internet show much nicer, moderner view than reality. Old hotel building with worn-out walls, furniture; restaurant was closed; no free wifi and problems with the connection
Review 4:Exceptionally helpful receptionist; location: good starting point to discover different areas of Toscana; abundant breakfast - finest cappuccino; good price
Review 5:Lack of staffing - the desk was often abandoned. We waited one hour outside before other guests opened the door (yes, we were within normal p.m. checkin times). The wifi did not work in our room (room 19) so we had to go to an upstairs lobby to get a connection.
Review 6:the location was excellent, right on the river (pay the extra for a riverside room which includes free wifi). The price was excellent, for a riverside room (free wifi) breakfast and parking, we paid 135 Euro for three nights.
Review 7:sadly we can not recommend the spa in Bagni di Lucca - but that has nothing to do with the hotel
Review 8:- Breakfast and Diner were very delicious - every day fresh homemade cakes (those busy bees baked half the night) - Diner a la carte with daily changing local specialties - easy acces to public transportation (Pisa & Lucca) - great landscape just a few driving minutes away (Grotta del Vento & Mountain Pania della Croce) - friendly and very helpful personnel - the pool in the sister hotel in Bagni di Lucca is free to use - free parking spots directly in front of the hotel
Review 9:Could not fault
Review 10:Charming hotel. The service was brilliant. The owner was very charming and helpful. We had an evening meal, the food was fantastic with excellent wine. Breakfast was bountiful with a delicious cake selection.
Review 11:The hotel could use some paint and upgrade some broken items.
Review 12:The restaurant was good and affordable with starched white table cloths. Very nice view as well. Friendly staff and waitress. The price was good.
Review 13:The bathroom just had too much in it. Some fittings could do with a bit of a better dusting (room 5 bathroom lampshades).
Review 14:A lovely old hotel, lots of history and old features, doors, stairs etc. Some reviews complain of road noise? If you are a switched in traveller you will have earplugs with you. No problem! The breakfast was good.
Review 15:Joint best hotel of 11 on our touring holiday. The staff were extremely friendly & helpful. Evening meal - beautiful setting on terrace overlooking river with absolutely delicious home cooked food. Breakfast lots of choice. Also pleasantly surprised with il conto! (invoice) Could not fault anything. Already planning next year's return trip & will be staying here for longer than this year's 1 night stopover.
Review 16:No lift to upper floors
Review 17:Food 1st class. Beautiful scenery. Friendly and helpful staff. Hotel old but clean. Overlooking amazing river. Small village. Walking distance to other village, thermal springs/spa. No car needed for short trip but cheap local train and bus. Great Breakfast included.
Review 18:It is a very tired old hotel which needs a huge amount of money spending on it to bring it up to standard. Grubby. We had room no 8 which was at the side, just a little back from the road. The noise from the traffic was deafening. We were woken very early by the lorries going by. As there is no air conditioning in the room a window had to be left open.
Review 19:Manager, very friendly. Buffet breakfast was good, even had some fresh water melon which made a change.
Review 20:No free wifi Noisy rooms (view to street) Confined air
Review 21:Staff Breakfast (home made cake and choice of salty breakfast as well)
Review 22:WIFI - 須另付費 ....
Review 23:EVERYTHING
Review 24:The staff could not have been nicer
Review 25:old furniture/ bed
Review 26:friendly staff
Review 27:don't get a room on the road side of the building, get one on the river for better sleep.
Review 28:excellent staff and clean good quality rooms
Review 29:Staff friendly and helpful. Food was first class. Rooms clean. A relaxing environment. Would stay again.
Review 30:* Very old fashion hotel
Review 31:* Quality/price * The breakfast
Review 32:Only stayed one night while in the area. Good welcome, nice quiet room, great breakfast, good price.
Review 33:wi-fi too slow for anything but emails and should be free
Review 34:helpful staff; good food
Review 35:The breakfast is a buffet of homemade pies, cakes and marmalade. Personnel is very helpful and accommodating
Review 36:Noise and scorpion which was found in the bathroom
Review 37:Good room for the low price, breakfast and location
Review 38:Beautiful old town nestled in a deep gorge. Hotel veranda at rear for breakfast eating overlooks a river tumbling over rocks. Excellent location
Review 39:Bed was not that comfortable
Review 40:Wifi worked well. Good overall value.
Review 41:Never sure if restaurant was open or not and what was on the menu! noise in front bedrooms onto the road - for three days stay would not transfer us to river side
Review 42:Relaxed style
Review 43:The place is getting a bit run down. It was only the beginning of the season but never-the-less the terrace was covered with weeds and no tables. There was litter outside the front door.
Review 44:Location is very good, overlooking the river. It is on the road but you can't hear the traffic at all inside. Authentic style and food, not fancy but good. Easy going. Helpful staff. Basic but good bedrooms.
Review 45:We were moved to sister hotel regina as the corona was closed. On arrival no one was around to check us in we went away and came back an hour or two later. The lift was disctinctly unpredictable!
Review 46:Beautiful location, breakfast was very nice with delicious scrambled eggs and great coffee. The bed was extremely comfortable.
Review 47:Nothing to dislike
Review 48:The quintessential Italian country hotel...simple and friendly. The room was excellent and the service was warm and friendly. As long as you don't expect a lift to the third floor! (stairs only!!). The restaurant served good food (a limited but very good menu and only local wine) and was very good value for money. It was our first night of a long trip across Italy...driving directly here from Pisa airport...fantastic views and a pleasant bar/restaurant in the local village. We would recommend this hotel as a great taster of rural Italy!
Review 49:Some areas of hotel could do with updating, and having free wifi would be good.
Review 50:I agree with some of the other previous reviews as I did think the hotel could do with a update inside, as it looked tired and worn out in places. For example rusty water stains on bathroom floor and a cheap bed frame. We had a river view, overlooking the old casino and hills the other side of the valley, the water noise was fantastic for me, but kept my partner awake at night. She did like the view however! Food was very nice, and the staff I found to be very helpful. The outside terrace we both liked, it has great views and you are able to walk down closer to the river from it. On checking out the owner was worried we did not eat there much. But we used the location as a travel point, Cingue Terre, Lucca, San Gimignano, Volterra and Pistoia are examples. Breakfast is typical of Italy, so Brits there is no big fry up English breakfasts! Clearly an effort was made to the food for breakfast, we got back to the hotel very late one night, and I could see the kitchen making food for the morning. And, the younger lady who works the desk deserves an award for customer service. Many hotels could learn a lot from her. Bravo! Remember, you get what you pay for. Here I found an honest hotel, and not for a lot money to stay there. As for road noise, check maps and it is a it obvious on a main road there will be some, same as a river. Don't go here if you want a busy bustling town. Do go here if you want a quiet, laid back hillside town with epic views!
Review 51:Nothing really
Review 52:Great hotel, refreshing to stay in a place that is not plastic andsymmetric like so many hotels today. Staff very friendly and laid backin a nice way. Great location, beside village, walks, 20mins to Luccato. Breakfast was just ok, nothing special but for the value, what doyou expect, was enough to get going, what was special is sitting overthe river on the terrace enjoying life. They have a sister hotel theother end of town and we were offered the use of the pool and gardens ifwe wished, even after we checked out, a nice touch. Stayed in the sisterhotel previously and it's old world too. Would recommend this hotelto you, great spot
Review 53:The hotel is very shabby and the staff was not very helpful. We booked anon-smoking room, but there actually are not any in the hotel. Our roomsmelled terribly of cigarette smoke and there was an ash tray there. Weasked for a different room. It also had an ash tray, but cigarette smellwas not so strong (it smelled too though - probably a kitchen smell).Even though the hotel advertises that you can enjoy waterfalls from yourroom, we were asked to pay extra eur 20/night for a room with ariver view.
Review 54:Bagni Di Lucca is a nice town and the hotel has a good location.
Review 55:we can hear the music of the restaurant in our room but a small talk to the staff & it's directly OK...
Review 56:A warm welcome of the owner & staff-very friendly & helpful, superb location, very good breakfast (esp. for gluten free diet) on a sunny-riverside terrace, parking infront, clean natural pool-few kms. away-another hotel of the same co. (close to beautiful garden, kids playground & supermarket, great value for money....means we're going to stay there again.
Review 57:We chose the hotel because it had a michelin recommended restaurant: itwas closed on Sunday night but no mention was made in the advertising. We consequently had to walk a kilometre plus into the other end of townto find dinner. We agreed an upgrade at an extra 26 euros which gave usa river view and small terrace - there were cracked tiles in the shower, the table and chairs on the terrace were dirty. It was a disappointment.
Review 58:Shabby decour throughout hotel, though clean. This is really just a bed and breakfast establishment with limited evening meal provision
Review 59:It was low-budget Staff were friendly
Review 60:The noise during the day. Thankfully by 8 pm it settled down and we had a good night's sleep until about 8am. I realize we are in a small town with cobbled stone streets but it was a little difficult.
Review 61:Near everything. Parking was available. Restaurant on premises. Nice breakfast. Nice people. Wifi available at 2€ an hour-- Skype worked intermittently.
Review 62:No Elevator
Review 63:Exclusively helpful staff. Juliana helped us to bring our luggage to the 2nd floor. Roberto organized transfer of our luggage to their sister hotel Regina ( we ordered 2 nights in Corona & next 2 nights in Regina. Good breakfast. Free Internet.
Review 64:Excellent staff ..helped out with travel plug we forgot! Has an excellent restaurant with set menu at 24 euros..best we had during the holiday. Easy to get to Lucca & Pisa if you have a car..would definitely stay again if in the area.
Review 65:We'd expected to eat there, but the restaurant is closed on aSunday night.
Review 66:The Receptionist was hugely helpful & pleasant throughout our stay, and recommended a good place for us to go and eat. Nothing was too muchtrouble. Our bedroom had a lovely view over the (very noisy) river Lima. It's a really economical place to stay (if just a little bit tatty),and a superb base for exploring the mountains and Bagni di Lucca itself
Review 67:The breakfast room lacked atmosphere and it would be good to have some background music to give some mood. The room we had was quite small in comparison to others we have had in other parts of Italy. The bed was just OK but could have been a bit softer.
Review 68:The nightly rate we got for our 3 nights was very good and included breakfast which made it a bargain. We didn't know anything about Bagni di Lucca but were pleasantly surprised by what was on offer in the area and we were glad we stayed in the location.
Review 69:I booked 4 nights but had to leave after 3 nights due to illness. I was expecting to pay for 3 nights but the hotel insisted that I pay for the entire stay. I was extremely disappointed about this. The hotel claimed that this was because I had used booking.com. I would appreciate a response to this policy. My e-mail is: diffey@blueyonder.co.uk Whether I use booking.com again will depend upon your response to this issue. I believe I should get a refund equivalent to one night's stay. Dr Diffey
Review 70:Free wi-fi
Review 71:The mattress was a bit hard.
Review 72:This was a quaint hotel with some original features. Staff was very friendly and professional. Breakfast was excellent. The room and bathroom were good. We only paid 34 euros for the night including breakfast so this was excellent value for money.
Review 73:You really need the mobility of a car for a stay in Bagni di Lucca to make any kind of sense.
Review 74:Great location in the mountain as a base to explore the region by car. Beautiful little town with well mapped walking paths and excellent spa baths in the area. Friendly staff, good service, great value!
Review 75:We stayed at Hotel Corona for 3 nights at the end of a 11 day tour of Tuscany befor flying home from Pisa Airport . On check in we were offered a room with a balcony overlooking the river for a small surcharge and am glad we did as the view was lovely . Breakfast was excellent value with lots of choice. Unfortunately we didn't sample the restaurant but hope to next time I'm sure we will use this hotel again.
Review 76:A lovely few days away in an incredibly friendly atmosphere. Good food, nice people and complete relax. Will return to bagni Di lucca for another weekend break in the near future and undoubtedly stay in this hotel again. Thanks Roberto.
Review 77:The bedroom did not have air conditioning so a fan would be useful so that guests do not feel they have to keep all the windows open.
Review 78:The owner was very friendly and helpful. Their sister hotel had a lovely pool with sunloungers and umbrellas that we used for the afternoon, free of charge (just 5 minutes away). The setting was beautiful and very traditional. The restaurant is to be recommended as we had a lovely meal - one of the few places that served chicken (and did it very well), with fresh vegetables, lovely sauce and roast potatoes. My husband had a gorgeous Florentine steak. The wine choice was very good. Book a table on the terrace for a lovely romantic evening overlooking the River Lima. Food and service excellent.
Review 79:Imagine being taken back to the age of the "grand tour" and experiencingthe delights of the elegance of that time. The Hotel Corona has thatfeel. It is a simple albergo but with glorious views from the bedroomsoverlooking the river and rooms with space to relax and have privatetime. Furnished with the look of the early twentieth century, woodenpanelled cupboards with spacious wooden draws, pictures that reflect thehistory of Bagni di Luca and large windows which frame the Tuscan hills. The restaurant serves fantastic Tuscan food and has an extensivecollection of wines (over two hundred) all of good quality and many atan affordable price. Giuliana recommended Morellino di Scansano when Iasked for a light red at around about sixteen euros, it was sublime andacompanied ravioli in tallagio sauce. The quiet terrace restaurantoverlooks the river Lima, its exclusively Albergo Corona's space and isbounded by lovely rose bushes and window boxes full of colourfulgeraniums. If you enjoy excellent service which is honest and notwithout personality then you can do no better than stay here. The ownerRoberto also presides over the sister Hotel Regina, which at acomfortable twenty minute walk is where you can use the swimming pool. You can actually swim lengths in this pool and that is rare in manyhotel pools, important for me as a sports freak. I stayed here with myfriend for three nights from the fourteenth of August (having previouslyhad one of the best lunches ever in 2010) and it lived up toexpectations. What this hotel has got fundamentally right is thestaffing, this is a tight team who want you to enjoy your stay and knowhow to talk to people because they are people themselves. I'm going backagain and again!
Review 80:Hotel Staff were very friendly and always willing to help. View from the breakfast room in the morning is wonderful and makes a great start to the day.
Review 81:This hotel was the first we'd stayed in in Europe that charged for Wifi.It was 2 euros an hour and was slow and unreliable. Also, after seeingthe pictures of a pool on the net, we booked without realizing that thepool was at another hotel a short, but necessary drive away.
Review 82:We loved the food at the restaurant and our balcony room. The staffseemed happy and very friendly. Sometimes they were a bit over worked soservice could be a bit slow. We had a room overlooking the river whichhad sound of tinkling water. But I believe the rooms at the front werevery noisy with traffic. Rooms large, no air con but fine with thebalcony doors open.
Review 83:No air conditioning, loud traffic noise and the Church bells from 8am to 10am every 30 minutes. BUT for the low price we paid for the room and the excellent service given, we certainly wouldn't complain. Best price and excellent breakfast - great value for money.
Review 84:Lovely people, good clean hotel with beautiful dining facilities. The staff are excellent.
Review 85:Rooms were a bit darker, but clean. The staff was friendly and some alsospoke english. Dinner and breakfast were excellent. The hotel issituated in a beautiful village in the hills, but fairly close to Lucca,Pisa and Livorno .
Review 86:It was close to the main road and was quite noisy when we left ourwindow open.
Review 87:The staff was very friendly. The rooms were clean and the bathroomwas spacious.
Review 88:Great staff very informed and friendly, eager to be helpful, loads of useful information available. good value for money - slight drop of the ball with one meal, buit otherwise really good.
Review 89:Italian hospitality at its best. Friendly and helpful staff. TypicalTuscan decor and hospitality. Absolutely stunning location. Wouldrecommend to any one.
Review 90:Very busy street that keeps you awake.
Review 91:Breakfast and coffee excellent! The food at the hotel restaurant alsoexcellent. Beautiful new bathroom, but decor in room needs update
Review 92:Cannot recommend this hotel highly enough especially at the price. Useof swimming pool in sister hotel, Regina, a bonus. Breakfast on terraceby river was so romantic. The whole setting of the hotel, the surroundingarea, etc is a perfect place to visit. The staff and owner were lovely, friendly and helpful.I Will definitely be going back to the HotelRistorante Corona, and will be recommending it to everyone that I know !
Review 93:The only disappointment was the service at dinner which was chaotic and extremely slow - we discussed this with the owner, and it seemed that this was due to an unprecedented influx of unreserved guests on that particular evening. It may be that the food also suffered because of this but from our single experience we could only give it an average rating.
Review 94:We know and love this area and chose this hotel because of its location, moderate price and and good write-ups. In general it lived up to our expectations. The staff were really friendly and welcoming and our room was comfortable with a lovely view over the River Lima. We took our meals on a spacious and attractive verandah over-looking the river and the buffet breakfast was exactly what we wanted with excellent coffee in addition to cereal, breads, pastries, cheese and cooked meats.
Review 95:Great value for money. Staff very friendly especially host Roberto whomade us feel very welcome. Breakfasts were excellent, great choices.Bagni di Lucca great location, in valley with River Lima runningthrough. Surrounded by tree lined hills, and winding roads, hairpinbends, ancient villages perched on hilltops, stunning scenery. Our hotelroom was very clean and comfortable, 3 star accommodation. Hoteloverlooked the River Lima, breakfasts taken on the terrace overlookingthe river in the morning sunshine, magical.
Review 96:All staff was exceptionally friendly and helpful! Furthermore, the restaurant is excellent and absolutely fair priced. Although the rooms are simple, they offer everything you need and were clean.
Review 97:The house is over 100 years old. That sounds interesting (that's why webooked the hotel), but the problem is that it seems like they really didnot change almost anything in those 100 years. It smells like dust alittle. They charge extra 10 euros if you want a waterfall view(fortunately we didn't took it) - do not do that because that is not awaterfall. Other couple that travelled with us got a very cold room (wetravelled in January). Our room was warm.
Review 98:The food in the restaurant is good. Location is good because there is abeautiful town Lucca nearby. Also, if you travel by car, it is close toPisa and to Florence
Review 99:Excellent overnight stay. Needed somewhere in Bagni di Lucca on way toanother location. Owner was extremely helpful, and given it was jsutbefore Xmas and quiet he actually took us around the hotel to find thebest room for us. Rooms simple but spotless and comfortable. Restaurantattached serves excellent local fare with great views of river. Verygood value for money and would thoroughly recommend.
Review 100:Fantastic location at the river. Old charm hotel.
Review 101:Beautiful place, nice hotel, cosy rooms, tasty breakfest.
Review 102:All good
Review 103:Great service friendly staff lovely views.
Review 104:Beautiful location. Personable staff who are eager to please. A real haven to relax and savour the scenery.
Review 105:A beautiful little terrace garden to eat breakfast and dinner was very quaint!
Review 106:Price, room, location
Review 107:The staff were excellent, The food was very good
Review 108:Fine dining
Review 109:Excellent value for money. Breakfast was brilliant - lots of variety. Staff really helpful and friendly. We would definitely stay again!
Review 110:Riverside view
Review 111:Towels
Review 112:Beautiful location Staff very friendly Hotel restaurant fantastic
Review 113:There was nothing we didn't like
Review 114:We liked everything about this hotel
Review 115:Stunning location in a beautiful town. The staff were really helpful and wecolming, the rooms clean and basic and the hotel location great.
Review 116:Quant old hotel in a charming little village. Wonderful restaurant downstairs.
Review 117:Exceptionally friendly staff. Wonderful cook and reasonable prices for excellent meals.
Review 118:really friendly hosts, helpful and full of local information for whatever we needed
