Reviews for Grand Hotel Victoria

Review 1:Perhaps, the room was a little dated, but still clean, spacious, comfortable, and with a large balcony.

Review 2:The hotel is in a great location and the grounds are spacious, the parking is free and very easy. The internal spaces are large, with very wide hallways, grand staircase, good size rooms and a feeling of grandeur as the name implies. It is an easy and very pleasant walk to the town piazza. Some traditional touches - eg actual room keys on a bronze number key ring. Don't see that much these days.

Review 3:The breakfast was not good enough for 4 stars hotel. The hotel more to 3 star category than 4 stars.

Review 4:The hotel is located close to the lake. The view from the hotel is very nice. The design of the hotel is classic stile.

Review 5:Some of the rooms didn't have a standup shower which was difficult for my elderly father.

Review 6:Very beautiful common areas and very nice pool. Centrally located right on the lake and close to the main area but not too heavily trafficked.

Review 7:Bedroom pillows could be more comfortable or plentiful.

Review 8:Professional and attentive staff. Perfect location. Pool is very clean and well maintained and is a good size.

Review 9:Local roads back to Como can be busy - choose your timing!

Review 10:Location, views and hotel charm made this an excellent stay over a long weekend! We enjoyed drinks on the terrace with family each evening - great staff. Lovely secluded pool in the grounds! And a wonderful area to explore by car and by boat.

Review 11:Gorgeous waterfront location, easy walking distance to charming shops and restaurants as well as ferry. Hotel restaurant had excellent service and menu. Air conditioned room with free wifi, terrace with partial lake view.

Review 12:The (European) breakfast is OK for the price of EUR 14, but for a four star hotel you do not expect to have to pay extra for orange juice (EUR 6) and scrambled eggs (another EUR 6).

Review 13:The hotel was renovated some years ago, while maintaining the atmosphere of an old grand hotel. Rooms are basic but of good quality. Wifi worked well. The location at the lake is excellent. Great view and there is hardly any traffic in front of the hotel. Nice swimming pool area.

Review 14:The last room was as it appeared of booking Very expensive price of 160euro. The room was an attic, with 0 views except the roof edge, Verysmall room with no room to move, Cracked walls shower room and livingroom, Cobwebs in the corner of the shower, Signs of rainwaterpenetration beneath the window. Tiny tv, Infrequent Internet, in thedeal, breakfast were extra charge of 13 euro per person. And when Iasked about the nature of the meal? I have been told that the mealincludes eggs cooked, if we wont Suni side up eggs or scrambled we haveto pay extra cost and so on ... Really does not justify the price forthe product - severely disappointed.

Review 15:The team is very professional, Pleasant, speaks fluent English, excellent hotel location, Free hotel parking.

Review 16:The walls of the room were not as sound proof as I had expected.

Review 17:Grand architectural style of the Hotel. Location and the view across to Varenna. One of the very few hotels in this area with ample parking for its guests.

Review 18:The free wifi didn't work very well, and the decor needs refreshing. They charge quite a lot of money for what is essentially a hotel that was last redecorated 30 years ago. It's a shame because this place could be really awesome if they invested in it.

Review 19:The location was excellent. Right in front of the lake, and some rooms have a great view.

Review 20:Breakfast wasn't included (which we knew) - we did take it and it was great.

Review 21:Were supposed to have an attic room and were moved to the second floor - great high ceilings - great lake view. Rooms could use an update - bathroom was updated.

Review 22:Nothing!

Review 23:The hotel is situated on the edge of the lake woth lovely views. As it was February the hotel was fairly empty but our rooms, staff and food were grand!

Review 24:Nice big tall ceilings in the public rooms and restaurant, good service and fantastic food - best Stroganoff ever had. Nice décor in the room and of course a fantastic view. A really enjoyable stay.

Review 25:Furnishings a little faded Breakfast could be improved

Review 26:Location Helpful staff Views across lake during evening and daytime Good as a centre for holiday

Review 27:My wife and I stayed for three days in August 2014 but found the (attic) room deficent in a number of respects, including relatively poor lighting, outdated TV and poor showering facility. In general, evening dinner was over-priced and the breakfast could be described as basic.

Review 28:The general ambience and architectural quality, particularly of the lobby area, was very good. However, initial impressions did not quite live up to expectations. Nonetheless, this could probably be rectified with some additional investment in the quality of service provided.

Review 29:We really enjoyed the hotel, had a great room facing the lake (superior room was on offer, it was larger, but the balcony was so small that we decided for the "normal" room that we originally booked). Very central to the village square for a coffee and people-watching in the evenings. Especially the back-of-the-hotel pool was wonderful, great to escape the rain in Munich and lay around the sunny pool for a couple of hours.

Review 30:Breakfast e.g tinned fruit in Italy in August ! Pillows poor quality. Besides reception , a very drab, soulless feel. A feeling the place is run on the cheap- cheap toilet paper , no tissues, no flowers, pictures

Review 31:Location. Reception staff. Foyer area

Review 32:Nothing.

Review 33:Elegant historic hotel tastefully modernised. Very convenient for the town centre with its cafes, restaurants, tourist office and shops, yet in a quiet location overlooking the lake. Outstanding service from the staff particularly on the reception desk, who went to great lengths to help us plan activities during our stay. Lovely swimming pool. Good view of the lake from our room, glimpsed between the impressive cedar trees. Air-conditioning very effective and bed really comfortable.

Review 34:The twin beds were like rock. They gave me a different softer mattress but it was the size of a cot. Not good. Needs new mattresses and pillows and paint on balcony doors.

Review 35:The location on the promenade across from the water. The staff were helpful and friendly, especially Paolo!

Review 36:The staff were so friendly and helpful. Beautiful decor and especially as having just been refurbished. Loved the pool and garden. The food was also amazing.

Review 37:A gracious and historically evocative grand hotel in a beautiful location. We very much enjoyed the view and the wonderful ambience.

Review 38:Great staff and wonderful location

Review 39:Great views, great staff and great food

Review 40:Excellent location within a minute of the lake shore! Very good breakfast.

Review 41:Old rooms / furniture

Review 42:Lakeside & Pool, very nice breakfast

Review 43:Nothing all was good

Review 44:2nd stay and thoroughly enjoyed it again. Will stay there next time b

Review 45:Gravel pathways made it a little difficult to wheel luggage

Review 46:Hotel was perfectly located near the main town centre.

Review 47:pretty overpriced, if u are not player in the league of richness.

Review 48:it's quite old school.

Review 49:Breakfast poor value for money.

Review 50:Location and car parking.

Review 51:The ambience of the hotel. The staff members were so pleasant and always greeted us warmly and made us feel so welcome

Review 52:The bedroom needed some maintenance and re-decoration

Review 53:Good location close to Menaggio centre

Review 54:Great location, views and service. One of the most special hotels in which we have ever stayed as part of a memorable family trip. Thank you.

Review 55:Incompetent staff, outdated rooms.

Review 56:Location.

Review 57:Tea facilities in room and toast for breakfast!

Review 58:Location

Review 59:Poor service and quality of breakfast. Only used once and then went elsewhere for better choice and value.

Review 60:no wifi in rooms, tiny rooms,

Review 61:view on lake

Review 62:Staff could have provided more information about the area.

Review 63:Excellent location and very easy to find. Nice clean rooms.

Review 64:The hotel is a bit tired and clearly not 4 star.

Review 65:The location, parking and pet-friendliness

Review 66:Beautiful room overlooking the lake with the most perfect view. Great location and friendly staff.

Review 67:Hotel somewhat faded

Review 68:Views and landscapes

Review 69:Old fashioned, very quiet, no atmosphere

Review 70:Position, nice building.

Review 71:Leaving

Review 72:Friendly welcome. ESy access to twin and Lake side. Very nice evening meal.

Review 73:Nothing

Review 74:Everything

Review 75:Interior design

Review 76:Paolo Palano is the best hotel GM I have ever come across. Nothing is too much trouble and his advice and recommendations are superb!

Review 77:Perfect…. Staff owners could not have been nicer!! The best experience.

Review 78:Even though the hotel is located very nicely, the prices seem a bit too high. The hotel was very clean and nicely made but didn't seem like it was very recently refurbished. If it was 20 - 30% cheaper it would have been overall great.

Review 79:Great location, located literally directly at the lake, beautiful old italian building with classic italian room design. Everyone was very friendly and supportive, everything was very clean and it was all in all a very nice place to stay.

Review 80:Would like better shower facilities in room .more choices for breakfast instead of the same food each morning and coffee making facilities in room.

Review 81:Very nice hotel and lovely friendly staff

Review 82:No wifi internet in rooms. Only wifi in foyer - not a huge issue as I didn't go to lake como to sit on the internet but in this day and age, they need to make it happen.

Review 83:Great location, nice old feel foyer and stair case, staff were friendly, always willing to help with what I should do, check timetables etc.

Review 84:The poor breakfast The fixed head in the shower. The noisy ventillator in bathrooms The lack of Wifi in the rooms

Review 85:The Location The Attitude of the staff The actuall building and common grounds The size of the rooms

Review 86:staff seemed very grumpy, like i was an intrusion on them. Double room requested and paid for but single room provided. wireless only in foyer and not in rooms. Town was simply too quiet and this was not expected for the area.

Review 87:Trading on past glory, needs & deserves a big update. Incredibly small single bed. Wifi only in reception. Breakfast a little sparse. Overall adequate but little more.

Review 88:Best location in Menaggio, easy parking & access. Great views.

Review 89:Possibly the worst breakfast coffee ever. Charmless breakfast staff.

Review 90:Lovely old style comfortable hotel in a quiet location which is not stuffy or formal. Our lake-facing front bedroom was spacious, well furnished and comfortable, with plenty of wardrobe space. The modern bathroom was well-appointed. Staff were efficiently friendly (apart from breakfast staff). Adequate fill-up breakfast in a sunny, light, dining room. The hotel exudes an atmosphere of peace and quiet.

Review 91:Room comfortable but could use updating.

Review 92:Wonderful staff especially, Claudia. Helped from initial booking and arranging transportation. Lovely grounds and views of lake. Beautiful public rooms.

Review 93:Breakfast terrible value. Just ate there once. The hotel is trying hard but it was just ok.

Review 94:Great location a little down the street from the busier part of Menaggio. An example of how these hotels were in the past.

Review 95:Rooms were small and VERY bland. Air-con was poor and the staff were requested a number of times to get it fixed. On the last night it died completely.

Review 96:Didn't clearly advertise events in the town or from the hotel. Use of restaurant wasn't encouraged.

Review 97:Refurbishing kept the original style. Good views. Quiet.

Review 98:Breakfast choice good but no toaster or hot breakfast apart from hard boiled egg. Booked for Swimming pool but cold and the lido would've been abetted option with cheaper hotel

Review 99:Central position.Nice views from room.could have breakfast out on balcony of breakfast room. Quite a grand hotel where people had weddings.

Review 100:Wifi only available in common areas. Needs to get softer pillows.

Review 101:Hotel was nice but would be great if it was refurbished. Old style hotel with large rooms. Free parking on premises. Large grounds around the hotel. Right next to the central area of Menaggio with access to ferrys.

Review 102:Lake view was blocked by huge tree. No feeling of luxury- bedding felt and looked like cheap guest house No wifi in bedrooms Lobby was bare. Chairs and tables but nothing on tables. Was not a 4 star hotel. Trading on its past.

Review 103:Location was good.

Review 104:Cost of breakfast as only continental and we don't eat cheese or hamso didn't have it and no tea/coffee in room. But this applies tomost French and Italian Hotels.

Review 105:Good sized rooms, view of the Lakes, swimming pool, few minutes walkfrom the centre, good restaurants etc and good restaurant in the Hotelwe used twice. Free on-site car parking. Reception particularly helpfuland friendly.

Review 106:Wifi only available in the lobby and terrace, not the rooms.

Review 107:The position, both in relation to the lake (Como) and the town; the friendly and helpful staff, and the pool.

Review 108:Bathrooms very tired and old fashioned. Menu repetitive. Expensive -would expect higher quality for the price

Review 109:Elegant interior, very friendly and helpful staff. Lovely views of thelake and centrally situated

Review 110:In comparing price, the cheapest double rooms (160Euros) are loft rooms and these have not been recently decorated and the facilities within the room are not fitting to 4* quality. For this reason, I would opt for either another room (more expensive), or chose another hotel.

Review 111:The hotel was grand with a great lobby area fitting of a 4* hotel, and the service of the reception staff was great. Location was also good.

Review 112:none of the things you would expect for the price e.g. tissues, water, extra pillows, soft towels. Like a lot of old style Italian hotels it is out of touch with what 200 per night should buy you.

Review 113:location

Review 114:Breakfast is the poorest I have ever seen in my life, when we ordered the omelette , it turned for the additional 8 euro to breakfast:(( The bed is very uncomfortable, and the blanket as it is left after the War.

Review 115:Beautiful situation in Menaggio, on the side of Lake Como, with easy access for ferries to Bellagio and Varenna - so easy to explore other areas of the lake with plenty of history, gardens, castles, lovely walking, beautiful mountains and bird watching. Hotel marvellous - very comfortable. Delicious meals. Staff extremely friendly and helpful.

Review 116:Our gps took us up the other side of maintain pass which wastrecherous!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Then we had to take the Auto Taxi, which wasn't bad but we weren't aware of it. Keep people warnedabout this in order to save lives!!!!!!!!!

Review 117:Most beautiful village! Grand Victoria was perfect and then more!

Review 118:Charming 'old world' style, with up to date facilities.

Review 119:Shower was old fashioned!

Review 120:Fantastic Lake view

Review 121:Everything and the hospitality of the Director owner was fantastic .

Review 122:Price

Review 123:All,but no price

Review 124:Extremely accommodating about my change of plans, my early check in and my late check out.

Review 125:Old, rust from pipes, needs refurnishing.

Review 126:Lacked some music in the bar

Review 127:The atmosphere
