Reviews for Hotel Fontana
Review 1:nothing
Review 2:Excellent service, fantastic room, receptionist was very very helpful and exceeded expectations; breakfast was lovely with homemade cappuccino and the location of the hotel is perfect
Review 3:This is a great location for exploring the Amalfi coast. The Sita Bus all leave from the square on the beach side of this hotel and for those who are exploring on foot The Pathway Of The Gods has many stairs to get up there !!
Review 4:No Free Wifi. You can get free wifi at a cafe when you buy a €1 espresso so why not at your hotel when you're paying €100's
Review 5:Couldn't get a better location. In the absolute centre of Amafi. 30 seconds to the bus station. Room was great, yes a little worn and outdated but was amazing with 2 balconies overlooking the main square of Amalfi. The free breakfast was better than expected. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Great value for money!
Review 6:Breakfast average
Review 7:Luana at reception was lovely and helpful and Maria our breakfast girl was beautiful and vivacious. Overall it was a really lovely comfortable hotel. We wanted to stay another night but they had no rooms so we were re housed elsewhere. If you're not good with stairs there are a few not many but very steep so keep this in mind when booking. The position was excellent as it was right in middle of piazza and close to everything including transport.
Review 8:The steps up to the hotel are very steep and I don't remember any warning. The breakfast was poor. The bed was hard but bearable. The property and room are run down and tired. The shower in the suite we had was awful. It was a tight cubical with overhead shower and horizontal shower jets. You have to be in the shower with doors closed before you turn it on or you will drowned the room. It's freezing until the water warms, the jets were blocked, the adjustment switches free wheeled and did now work and the overhead shower dribbled. It was terrible.
Review 9:The location of the hotel was superb. The balcony overlooking the port was great, large with table, chairs and loungers.
Review 10:Loved it all!
Review 11:The location was perfect.... In the bustle of the square and opposite the beach. It was noisy but it's to be expected bearing in mind the location. We thought all the sounds of the restaurants and mad Italian traffic made for a good atmosphere. The breakfast girls were great...albeit the actual breakfast could do with more variety and less sweet stuff, but a minor issue given the plenty of good coffee and croissants available. We would absolutely visit this hotel again and that part of Amalfi... Breathtaking!
Review 12:As I have lived in Italy for 3 years, I am used to Italian hotel breakfasts. This one was a bit lacking.
Review 13:Superb location overlooking the piazza! Nice size room, very clean, great service, not very many stairs.
Review 14:Poor internet. Expensive- only available in the lobby. It shuts off after midnight. Room was old. Uncomfortable furniture. Bathroom was old and in need of some repairs. Staff didn't have much knowledge about local excursions. Try residenza Luce instead.
Review 15:Central location to the beach and the square
Review 16:The 27 steps to reception may be difficult for some.
Review 17:Location, you can't get much more central. The buses are literally across the road. Our room had a balcony with ocean views. The rear of the property faces the piazza.
Review 18:The hotel is looking a little tired, lightbulbs not working etc, but was very clean.
Review 19:The location of the hotel, overlooking the main town square and two minutes from the beach, was a major factor in a very enjoyable holiday. The staff were very friendly and co-operative.
Review 20:I stayed in a spacious room with a high ceiling, which was facing directly the Duomo square with the beautiful view of the Duomo!! My balcony was right at the top of San Andrea fountain. It was the perfect positioning. This hotel also has rooms facing the seaside too. Easy to find from the bus stop and the port. Basic decent rooms. To my surprise to this basicness, a mini bar completely full from water to prosecco and all were more or less supermarket price! Friendly staff. I highly recommend this place!! Adequate breakfast, too. And I don't understand people giving negative credits because of breakfast anyway! Above all, Italy is a country full of all kinds of pastry. No one can ever starve to death. Physically impossible..
Review 21:Very noisy cos of its central position in the piazza which faced the road the sea and the square very noisy till early hours of the morning. Weak aircon made for sleepless nights. Position however was perfect.
Review 22:Loved the location room was facing the sea which was gorgeous. Luana and Maria wonderful helpful ladies and very friendly especially Maria.
Review 23:The wi-fi was not free, 3€ each hour. Although, there is a general wi-fi in Amalfi, you gotta be a citizen though :)
Review 24:It's been great to travel from Capri Island to Amalfi via ferry-boat, and find our hotel just 3 minutes away from the port. In the center of the city, only without any problems like noise or traffic :) The hotels faces sea at one side, the city square on the other. It takes only 2 mins to get ready and swim in the public beach. Great opportunity for relaxing if you are up for travelling a lot. Rooms are large with high ceiling and comfortable. The lady at the desk helped us a lot finding our way to Furoro beach and the for the long journey back to Rome from Salerno. Thanks!
Review 25:The mattress was ready for the bin. Towels changed everyday, but sheets were left for our entire step of 6 days.
Review 26:Junior suit had 3 balconies with wonderful views, the coffee & the day time staff were excellent. Nothing was too much trouble.
Review 27:Nothing _ we loved it all
Review 28:Hotel reception staff were very helpful with local information . The views across to the sea were spectacular and we enjoyed being in the heart of Amalfi. Very convenient for buses and boats . Croissants at breakfast were superb!!
Review 29:We stayed in a suite facing the harbour... 3balconies , large windows with shutters..this hotel is in a good position in Amalfi... Buses a stones throw from hotel.. Easy to get ferry to Capri... All good
Review 30:A very basic hotel. Could be more choice for breakfast. Very noisy outside during the daytime.
Review 31:Great location, friendly and helpful staff. Right in the centre of everything. Hotel was dated but very clean.
Review 32:It was raining like Cats and Dogs..The Police Man didn't let us stop at the Hotel to check- in. The Staff didn't help us to carry our luggage on the 30- Steps- Stairs. Had to wait 30 min for valet Parker in the rain with the luggage. Wireless Internet only in the "Lobby", but not in the rooms
Review 33:The Location and the Sea (Front) View to the Peer.Valet Parking
Review 34:We had two suites. Shower in one was a combination shower with lots of jets which you could not turn off to have just a regular shower. Then the shower head actually fell off and hit the occupant in the head. the other one was normal but the drain didnt work well and the water backed up quickly which was unpleasant. No free wifi and paid wifi was only available in reception/breakfast room
Review 35:We liked the breakfast staff and we liked the location. Staff helped with luggage. Some staff more helpful and pleasant than others so no real continuity.
Review 36:They charged for wifi, which was available only from 12noon till midnight in the main dining area. Also, the bed was quite firm.
Review 37:Location couldn't be better. Nice breakfast. Very nice staff.
Review 38:nothing to dislike
Review 39:We liked the location on the main square and the large airy room with comfortable bed. The staff were very helpful in giving information on travel to and from Amalfi and in ordering a taxi for us.
Review 40:The location and view from the balcony.
Review 41:Spent 4 nights at the Hotel Fontana. Our room over looked the sea, it was great waking up to such a fabulous view. Right in the heart of Amalfi, close to buses, shops and bars/restaurants. The receptionist was really helpful and always pleasant.
Review 42:Everything was perfect: great location (right in the heart of Amalfi, not far from port and bus stop). Breakfast was excellent too. Room was nice and enough big.
Review 43:We were upgraded to a studio suite which was wonderful. I don't know what a standard room would have been like. Our room and the common areas were clean and breakfast was excellent. The staff was very friendly and helpful.
Review 44:Great location with the port to the front and the Cattedrale di Sant'Andrea to the rear. Rare to get a single room with a sea view and balcony. Close to transport links, restaurants, Amalfi Musical. Good base and good value for money.
Review 45:Noisy street below, but price to pay for such a great location
Review 46:Great sea view from balcony plus a quick hop to the beach, and also a great piazza below the hotel to eat drink and people watch. Parking is a nightmare around there, even in low season when we went late October so who knows how bad it gets in high season. There is a car park next to the hotel on the seafront but it was full, even for us who had my wife's disabled badge. Luckily the hotel staff recommended we use their contact who takes your car up and out of the town and returns it for you when needed. This is £18 per day or was when we went anyway. I don't know if that means one drop off at a time or many ie a daily price or per trip but it certainly made things easy for us. Lovely view of the Duomo which is right across the piazza from hotel.
Review 47:From the beginning it was good. We needed to be picked up from the train, that happened & was a good experience. The room was clean & comfortable, breakfast was good & was nice to mix with other holiday makers. The staff were friendly & helpful. We were returned to the station on time the same way we came. Our experience at other places we stayed at on our holiday wasn't always that good.
Review 48:No free wifi. Unpleasant stairs to access the hotel. Breakfast could have fresh fruits.
Review 49:Location (near to the main square, bus stop to other towns). Beautiful view from the room.
Review 50:Shower curtain and no free Wi-Fi.
Review 51:Room window faced the Mediteranian and between me and the sea was the Flavio Gioia fountain. The fountain was beautiful both day and night. The hotel is around 500 feet from the bus terminal and 1000 feet from the boat dock and located on the main street through Amalfi. The hotel was comfortable and breakfast was good. Luanna was very helpful with directions and recommendations and the rest of the staff were pleasant and friendly.
Review 52:Beautiful view facing ocean, clean good beds and experience being right on the city's main plaza..., and staff very helpful.
Review 53:early morning (6 AM) very noisy because of the delivery cars
Review 54:Good location, frendly staff
Review 55:shower needed repair.
Review 56:liked the room, with a great view.
Review 57:Large washroom but very small shower broad
Review 58:city center
Review 59:the hotel is so close to the port that when we arrived by boat we only walkd about 200 meters through the city gate and then see our hotel.
Review 60:Location was right in the centre of town but got very noisy at night.
Review 61:Location was easily accessible.

Review 83:Everything was great.
Review 84:The old beds and breakfast
Review 85:The nightstaff where very friendly.its in the middle of the citycentre that was very nice.
Review 86:The lack of towels, room was a little outdated and there was no safe deposit box.
Review 87:The location was superb, the view was gorgeous and friendly service.
Review 88:Nothing
Review 89:Location is great. Right in front of beach and next to duomo.
Review 90:Service and location were excellent.
Review 91:Very poor service cleaning the rooms and indifferent service at breakfast and registration.

Review 110:Location was excellent
Review 111:Location, friendliness of staff, clean, everything that we needed.
Review 112:Breakfast was really awful, full of cakes and nothing other..
Review 113:Thanks Ms. Luana for everything:)
Review 114:Fabulous location
Review 115:Very noisy
Review 116:Location was excellent, staff friendly and helpful. Breakfast was good.
Review 117:You are right in the heart so the street noise, duomo bells, marching band and concerts mean it's not a quiet stay or longer than 6 hours sleep at night (so not one for lazy lie ins or early nights)
Review 118:Central location-right overlooking the square Clean spacious air conditioned room Great buffet breakfast
Review 119:My girls would have liked some English chanels on the tv! But otherwise it was perfect! :)
Review 120:Location was fantastic! Breakfast was consistent each morning with a lovely coffee made to your specifications. Plenty of room for our family of 4 (2 girls aged 7 & 10)
Review 121:Room can be look oldfashioned for some people. Room has no wifi, even it's 3€ for an hour near reception, they give you a code for it.
Review 122:Location is very very good, so that was the point I've booked this hotel. You are at the square of amalfi and if you book a suite with balcony sea view it is big enough for a couple. At night, it's very good to drink something on balcony and watching people or sea. Staff was very helpful and nice. I wanted to rent a car and lady in reception booked a cabrio fiat 500c for me in a minute. Clean, Comfortable and safe. I'm happy!
Review 123:The hotel is centrally placed but the view of the sea does not compensate for the traffic. It was noisy early in morning untill late in the evening. We got used to it after couple of days or we were very tired because of our long walks just went to sleep and we did not hear the noise. But I still think it is a great hotel but they need to brighten up their breakfast room and far too much cakes!!
Review 124:We stayed at the Hotel Fontana for a week. The hotel is centrally placed and our room has furnished very nicely. It has very high ceilings and a small lounge area and two balconies. I enjoyed my drink at the balcony after our LONG walks when we get back to hotel. The receptionist Luana spoke excellent English and was very informative - buses, trains, directions etc. She should be working at the tourist office they were useless! I liked Amalfi and our walks around the area I would stay again at the Hotel Fontana maybe not for a week!
Review 125:Room lighting was a bit subdued. Replace a few blown light globes would be all it takes. That's all, so no gripes from us.
Review 126:The central location, (Right on the town square) was a bonus. As advertised, we had a room with, not one, but two balconies. Breakfast was all we could ask for, and more. The staff were really friendly and helpful. If we were to visit Amalphi, The Fontana would be our choice.
The Fine Print
