Reviews for Albergo Nazionale
Review 1:We didn't have a tub. ?. Some of the staff was a little grumpy sometimes.
Review 2:Best bed on our trip. Great location downtown Portofino. The couple we traveled with had a great nice big tub. We had a shower stall. I love tubs.
Review 3:Very sparse breakfast . Eggs pay an additional 10 euro apiece. Exaggeration !!!!!! at 6.30 in the morning we were woken loud Arabic music staff !
Review 4:Climate beauty spot
Review 5:Breakfast is very ordinary. Hot food costs extra at a rate of 5 euro per egg/portion of bacon etc. The hotel is way over-priced (like nearly everything else in Portofino)
Review 6:Harbourfront location in Portofino
Review 7:Rooms were very clean and comfortable, but quite basic. If they were slightly more modernised this great hotel would be even better.
Review 8:This hotel was in a perfect location. Right in the centre of Portofino. Couldn't have asked for anything better. Great hotel, very clean and comfortable.
Review 9:Lovely, comfortable room with wonderful view of Portofino. Couldn't have asked for more. Family run, the owners and staff were always friendly and helpful. We would love to go back again.
Review 10:All white bathroom felt like a hospital, but plenty of toiletries.
Review 11:Excellent location, we stayed on the bottom floor, had our own patio with easy access to the square. Charming room with fireplace, only had one night available - wished we could have spent more time here.
Review 12:The location was right by the main piazza. No parking facility near hotel - must use pay lot. The cheese that they served for breakfast was delicious. No elevator.
Review 13:The staff went out of their way to assist in every way possible after what I am sure has been a long & tiring summer season for them. I cannot wait to return
Review 14:Couldn't fault it at all.
Review 15:The location was fab, we had an apartment, free mini bar, air con in main rooms, maid service, fully stocked bathroom cabinet, friendly staff.
Review 16:Incredible views from hotel restaurant . Food and service wonderful. All staff were very nice and friendly. Without hesitation I will stay again. Luigi in restaurant is a great haracter who adds to dining experience.
Review 17:Ate at Il Gimeli that evening, not the best choice. The food was fairly ordinary and overpriced. I guess that is to be expected at a waterfront restaurant in Portofino. Lesson learned :-(
Review 18:We were staying at Manarola in the Cinque Terre and visited for one night for my Wife's 65th Birthday. Great location, very friendly, very comfortable and spacious. Had a mezzanine bedroom with small balcony off main living room with view of Portofino harbour
Review 19:Rooms not very comfortable. Name SUITE a little bit exaggerated!
Review 20:THE best location in Portofino, without a doubt. Well worth the medium quality hotel to be able to enjoy a spectacular view of the harbour.
Review 21:Local parking is difficult/expensive.
Review 22:The location is perfect. Staff were all friendly. Manager was very helpful with very good local knowledge, directions and contacts. Maid service was excellent. Porter service was very good. Restaurant was good for breakfast and excellent in the evening.
Review 23:All good
Review 24:Steffano, on reception, was very helpful and gave us useful information about walking and sight seeing in Portofino Fabulous waterfront location . We had a waterfront view with a small balcony. Amazing
Review 25:Breakfast is a bit unimaginative. Price is quite high for the quality of hotel but that is probably true for all of Portofino. One night some guests arrived quite late and made a lot of noise...
Review 26:Great location. Right on the waterfront. Friendly staff. Nice sized room and bathroom. Great air-conditioning.
Review 27:The neighbours next door complained about the loudness of the TV resulting in the receptionist (male) coming into my room whilst in there and tuning the TV down. I was not happy with this as he quite clearly should have waited until I answered the door rather than allowing my 7 year old daughter to let him in!
Review 28:Location is second to none and the upgrade to a room with a sea view on the ground floor provided easy accessibility and atmosphere.
Review 29:Breakfast was just adequate.
Review 30:Great location in the heart of Portofino. Plain room but very clean and spacious with good bathroom. Nice staff who helped carry our heavy luggage.
Review 31:You can stay in a cheaper and luxury hotel in Santa Margherita and just take a bus, boat or taxi to Portofino to know the town, you don't need more than a day to see all of Portofino. Also the restaurants in Portofino are overpriced- i really recommend staying in Santa Margherita as theres more night life. Everytime you leave the hotel you had to leave your key at reception which was a bit annoying at times and every time we left someone from the hotel had come into the room to close shutters, change towels etc. Of course this is great but it felt a bit over the top.
Review 32:Location is superb, and the room is always clean, every time you leave they enter to clean up.
Review 33:There was no elevator but the staff helped us to carry on the luggage and at breakfast there wasn't a variety of choices.
Review 34:The position was perfect as we were 2 steps from the bay, the staff was extremely kind and the room was very nice. After we checked in, we went out for 2 hours then we came back before diner and they had already changed the used towels!
Review 35:Location is everything here - pay extra for the Junior Suite and terrace - worth every penny. Staff friendly, room clean and good size, bed comfortable. Couldn't fault anything - definitely recommend.
Review 36:Location is perfect right on the square of Portofino. Building is older but room was renovated and spacious. Nice and helpful staff. Good value for money considering you are in the heart of Portofino
Review 37:- Helpful and friendly staff - Big and clean room with view over the harbour - Own terrace - You get a discount in the hotel restaurant (Have not eaten there)
Review 38:Absolutely nothing.
Review 39:The location was perfect. Our room had a sizeable balcony. The rooms were tidied several times a day. Free mineral water in the room fridge. A very traditional feel to the hotel. Great value.
Review 40:Parking in Portofino is a nightmare and expensive, with a long schlepp of luggage to the hotel if you arrive in mid afternoon. Access to the hotel by car only possible between 07:30 and 10:00.
Review 41:Very central. Everything within walking distance. A great buzz around the place.
Review 42:We liked the size (small) of the hotel and our room with a bedroom loft overlooking the harbor. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. It was a truly fabulous experience and our favorite stay in Italy.
Review 43:Breakfast: there could be more variety. There was no lift. Price is high if you compare it with similar hotels in other locations, but this is a very good deal for Portofino.
Review 44:The hotel could not be better located. The staff were friendly and helpful. The rooms are beautiful and clean.
Review 47:For a decent price, you will be located steps from the main port in Portifino and literally steps from all of the dining and shopping. Basic but expected rooms, great service
Review 48:Had booked a room with a balcony and harbour view. Ended up with a ground floor room with a small terrace right on the piazza which was still nice but not quite the view we had expected.
Review 49:The location was just perfect. Its not a big town but the hotel is right on the harbour front by all the best restaurants. Excellent service from all the staff we encountered. Room facilities were not modern but the room had character. Wifi was good.
Review 50:I missed not having bbc world on the TV
Review 51:I was staying on my own but on holiday with friends, we stayed all over the town but my location for a person travelling alone was perfect, it was like having a personal dressing room in the centre of the town, I couod just bob back whenever I wanted to. A perfect weekend
Review 52:Expensive, but then we knew that from reading reviews so not surprised Portofino is lovely but 2 nights is enough time
Review 53:We paid extra for the suite with a view and it was worth the extra space and comfort Gorgeous harbour with lots of nice bars & restaurants Staff were very pleasant
Review 54:Room had no view so harbour front location not so great. Breakfast was basic, room was basic. Very high price for what we got.
Review 55:Being on the harbour front
Review 56:The location of this hotel is just perfect, it looks out onto the harbour of Portofino, which has to be one of THE most picturesque locations on the Ligurian coastline. I was lucky to stay in a room with a small balcony that looked out onto the harbour and town square... absolutely perfect! The hotel owner and his staff are most attentive and welcoming and made my stay just perfect. I cannot rave too much about this small hotel and its location!
Review 57:The location couldn't be better being right on the harbour. We booked two junior suites and these were spacious and comfortable looking out across the bay to the castle it made a very relaxing stay as we could simply step out of the hotel and take just a few steps to a wide choice of restaurants all of which were excellent. The staff in the hotel were extremely helpful and friendly. No need for a car as there was a local ferry to take you along to the neighbouring towns as well as a bus if you don't like the water.
Review 58:Breakfast was not great, but typical Italian.
Review 59:We got a very beautiful room, big and bright. The staff was very nice and helpful. Great position, quite in the night. Super comfortable bed and complimentary water in the room. There is a great pizzeria downstairs, not too expensive and very good.
Review 60:Poor choice in restaurants - all doing same expensive food and not very well! Everything closed by 11.00 but this may be norm off peak? Hotel breakfast (included) was dreadful. The cheapest, packet, processed continental you could get!
Review 61:Stunning setting and history. Shops. Friendliness of people.
Review 62:No shampoo/conditioner creams. A coffee machine was provided but it did not fit into the electrical outlet!
Review 63:The desk staff was helpful and genuine. They suggested several restaurants for dinner, including the on adjoining the hotel- the family business, and it was the right choice. Simple, excellent food, nice house wine.Would defintiely recommend their restaurant, compared to more pricey and touristy spots in Portefino. Nice bath to soak in after a day on the road!
Review 64:Nothing
Review 65:Good location in Portofino. The family and staff are very friendly and helpful - particularly in carrying heavy cases for us and even on a trolley to the bus stop at the top of the town, Their restaurant was good quality and value for money as an alternative to the overpriced ones overlooking the harbour. Our side room was well equipped with a large modern bathroom. In our view paying a premium for rooms overlooking the main square is an unecassary luxury as you are only one minute walking from it.
Review 66:You couldn't ask for a better location than this. Not a super-swish modern hotel, but authentically Italian, clean & really friendly. Best place I have stayed on for a very long time. Given the competition, it is truly excellent value for money, with a better location than any of the rest.
Review 67:Absolutely nothing! I had to leave!
Review 68:We had a sea view and breakfast was served on our patio each morning, with a view of the water. Our room was the size if an apartment, with a sitting area. Free bottles of water. A separation for the bed was also useful.
Review 69:Like anywhere in Portofino, it's not cheap, so not necessarily value for money.
Review 70:Right by the harbour, yet quiet enough for peaceful stay. Lovely big bathroom associated with our room. Tea and coffee making facilities provided. Good breakfast too.
Review 71:The food at the restaurant recommended by the hotel. Dont go there, its very basic and rather dull. As is the breakfast. Food in Italy is often amazing but not here.
Review 72:The lovely room, clean fresh, bright
Review 73:Portofino is such a beautiful place to stay and this hotel is in a perfect location. We had a junior suite with terrace doors that opened out to the marina and square which was amazing. Our suite was quite large and would highly recommend this room if you are booking here. The staff are extremely accommodating and go out of their way to help you. The restaurant/pizza place down stairs is well priced and is also a great place to eat and has lovely staff.
Review 74:we have stayed in Albergo Nazional three times and it is always very nice we eat down in the restaurant most nights. we will be going back next september.
Review 75:It's a great little hotel with rooms facing the square and bay of Portofino. It's friendly personnel and superb location make it a perfect place for those who want to see & experience 'real' Portofino.
Review 76:Nothing to dislike here as long as you remember it is a 3 star hotel, not 5 star
Review 77:This hotel has a great location in the centre of the village. The concierge willingly offered help to bring the luggage from the (public) car park which isn't very far way. The bed was very comfortable and the room very clean, slippers and bathrobes were provided. The hotel was actually much nicer than the pictures show. No complaints about breakfast. We will stay here again on our next visit
Review 78:70's - 80's decor, apart from the added TV and AC units everything is very old inside the rooms - it actually gives a certain charm to the place and if you are out and about the whole day it doesnt really matter at all
Review 79:Excellent location by the small port and main square of Portofino, nice and helpful staff, large rooms and relatively cheap in comparison to any other hotel around
Review 80:Out of date rooms. Judging from the decor and facilities it should costaround 40-50 euros, not 200. No parking - not even reservation possible. We were lucky to be allowed to overpass a long queue by the policeotherwise we would have to wait for 3 hours to enter Portofino. Secure aparking place is vital.
Review 81:Location
Review 82:TOO TRADITIONAL ITALIAN BREAKFAST...
Review 83:GREAT POSITION AND VERY CUSTOMER ORIENTED STAFF. LARGE ROOMS WITH OLD FURNITURE WITH ALL THE COMFORTS INCLUDED: WI-FI, AIR CONDITIONING AND FREE WATER FROM THE MINIBAR.
Review 84:Breakfast was not that great, but we enjoyed the table in our room, and it was what we expected for such an affordable room.
Review 85:The view and the set up of the room.
Review 86:Just a heads-up: it was tricky to find the entrance !
Review 87:This is a charming hotel, clean and with modern conveniences while retaining the spirit and feel of its history. 24-hours desk staff were fantastic, always friendly, very willing to help 2 English-speaking Americans navigate our way about the area. Yes it's pricey - but so is most everything in Portofino.
Review 88:The hotel is ideally located, and is of the highest standard despite its modest price (for Portofino). The staff was attentive to all of our needs, and our experience there was simply outstanding!
Review 89:Spacious two room suite right on the square in Portofino Very nice breakfast. Nice hiking trails in the park up the hills.
Review 90:Nice location. Had dinner in the hotel restaurant which was nice.
Review 91:Room was poorly maintained
Review 92:Bed needs to be replaced.
Review 93:Staff was very accommodating. Room had a wonderful view. Very clean.
Review 94:Lovely location.Beautiful boutique property.
Review 95:Poor breakfast - limited selection - no muesli - only kiwi fruit and apple
Review 96:Clean bathroom, comfy bed
Review 97:'Internal' hotel noise from other guests. Having to pay extra for items at breakfast e.g. eggs, when breakfast was included.
Review 98:No elevator
Review 99:Antique, clean and best location
Review 100:Position of room right On the harbour in Portofino what more could you ask for Staff first class
Review 101:The location is excellent. Close to local restaurants and towns with rail links to the Cinque Terra
Review 102:Location!
Review 103:Beautiful place and very nice staff!
Review 104:All was good. Breakfast very basic.
Review 105:Staff members were extremely helpful and polite.
Review 106:Perfect location perfect hotel, loved it
Review 107:The location is perfect and the staff helps with the lugagge (the parking area is about 4 paved blocks)
Review 108:Price considering the standard of the hotel. If you wanted eggs for breakfast it costed extra. Silly when you pay 350eur/night.
Review 109:Location.
Review 110:The location was superb. We loved the harbour view over a glass of wine in our room. Staff were so friendly and helpful. We had a great time.
Review 111:Everything , underpinned by superb location.
Review 112:Superb staff everything was possible
Review 113:The towels are rough, should be much softer.
Review 114:The view of the junior suite, the perfect location and everything around.
Review 115:Location was great. Friendly and attentive staff, very clean hotel,
