Reviews for Hotel Piccolo Portofino

Review 1:There is no place to park for checkin near the door, Need to walk down the road to the Hotel enterance.

Review 2:Great cove across street and very nice foot path to downtown. Staff was very helpful and nice.

Review 3:i guess coming to Portofino in this time in the year is a bit of a problem as Portifino is all but open, though the hotel was reasonable enough there's nothing to do in the city, everything is closed and dark so you arriving in the afternoon will not reveal it's beauty.

Review 4:The hotel location and hence the view was great

Review 5:The location was perfect and an easy walk to town along a trail. The view from our terrasse was breathtaking and definitely worth getting a seaside room.

Review 6:Location and view - we were offered a larger room without the sea view or a smaller room with it - we're v. glad we chose the view! Just a short & pleasant stroll to Portofino centre with its many restaurants and bars. Valet parking was well organised considering we were on the side of a hill.

Review 7:Inadequate shower cubicle. Door doesn't fit. No holder for soap, so you put it on the floor, which is then slippery!

Review 8:Very helpful staff. Superb evening meals. Quite good breakfasts.

Review 9:Fabulous. Riviera glamour, Italian style, Portofino charm. Staff couldn't be friendlier or more helpful. Location is sensational: 5 minutes walk to the centre of Portofino and we woke in the morning to the sea lapping beneath our windows.

Review 10:No footpaths on the roads

Review 11:Fantastic views, excellent helpful staff. I requested they arrange for some flowers & chocolates for my fiancee, which they personally gift wrapped. Great romantic weekend.

Review 12:The room was dirty especially the bathroom. There was mould on the ceiling of the shower. The taps & bidet were dirty & we wiped down prior to our use. The door lock was semi broken & the air conditioner did not function & the hotel concierge told us to open a window as it was out of season for the AC, unacceptable. The mini bar was ridiculously priced... $25.00 euro for a shot of vodka!! Nice but tired around the edges!!

Review 13:The room, patio & view were spectacular. The restaurant staff were very courteous & pleasant. The breakfast was very good & fresh Location was great & proximity to the main Piazza of Portofino was just a nice walking distance away. Got a great tip from a porter about a local non- tourist restaurant... Very good authentic Italian cuisine. The pesto was sublime!!

Review 14:These are only minor niggle points but still worth noting if the hotel is looking to consistantly improve. Dispite informing the hotel both at the time of booking and via telephone prior to arriving there was nothing arranged for my wife's 50th birthday. Room was overlooking a backroad with no real view, that was a bit of a letdown. Also beds too firm, aircon not useable and what is the point of having over 100 tv channels in everything from Arabic to Japanese if you only make 1 English speaking channel available, a poor one at that. Remote control buttons batteries were flat (probably from residents trying to find that elusive english speaking channel) and the rooms in general needed a bit of an update. Finally the WIFI was for most of the time a complete waste of time. Constantly dropping out and having to log in far to frequently. That being said none of this spoilt what was a very enjoyable stay.

Review 15:Probably the best thing about this hotel and our stay was the staff. Each and everyone of them was very pleasant, helpful and knowledgable. The food was generally very good with the breakfast in particular offering plenty of choice.

Review 16:Only English TV was BBC and Russian and Chinese English world news channels. No English drama or movies.

Review 17:Very modern rooms with excellent beds and large flat screen TV and excellent espresso coffee making facilities. Located in a historic and charming building with a fabulous courtyard worth a picture. Breakfast is wonderful with local produce. Staff recommended great restaurants. As with every Italian hotel we have stayed with the English TV was limited.

Review 18:Two nights were not enough!!

Review 19:What a gorgeous hotel, with staff to match! Our last port of call turned out to be one of the best in a 32 night European vacation. Brilliant location, Great bedroom with own balcony and views to match! Bathroom on the smallish side, however very modern and VERY clean. The staff were exceptional - everyone was so friendly and the hotel has a happy vibe. Loved this hotel, (and Portofino), I hope to return one day and would only stay here !

Review 20:No wifi in the room. Strong methane odor throughout and no bathing allowed due to high bacteria levels in the private swimming area.

Review 21:Great view, room with large terrace. Proximity to town by foot.

Review 22:Wifi strenght is very very low in rooms.

Review 23:Location is good, close to the center. Has a temporary parking space, vaket has parked the car to the center for 17€/night. Nice Breakfast is included.

Review 24:We booked an ocean view room on October 26, 2014 for our stay on September 8, 2015, yes almost a year in advance. On September 7, 2015, the night before we were to arrive at the hotel, the staff called to say that they could not promise our ocean view room, but could offer us a room with no view at all! The staff was not compassionate and made us feel like that was just the way it was and there was nothing they or we could do about it. Obviously we were very disappointed that we had the "rug" pulled out from under us at the last minute and would never consider this hotel when we return in the future.

Review 25:Location is magnificent. View of the sea wonderful. Breakfast really good. Path to Portofino harbor charming. Parking taken care of with ease and courtesy.

Review 26:Our room, paintwork, carpets & furniture were a little tired, Bathroom really small ...no tea/coffee facilities.. Cleaner just letting herself in when we first checked in! Fortunately was not in compromising situation!

Review 27:Nice view from room but requested sea view .road noise not too bad .. .breakfast was ok

Review 28:Traffic noise can be a nuisance at certain times of day, and would also have appreciated a wind-out window blind over the room terrace which could be too hot to sit on during the day.

Review 29:All round nice hotel only a short walk from centre of Portofino. Staff were friendly and helpful and room had fantastic view overlooking the sea.

Review 30:No bad experience during our stay.

Review 31:Staff friendly and very helpful especially reception staff. Location of hotel is amazing although the drive up to the hotel is a little nerve wrecking!!!! Room was lovely with a little balcony.

Review 32:We didn't know that we had to pay extra for parking until I got the bill (18 euros per day).

Review 33:Staff was friendly and gave good restaurant recommendations. Overall great location and beautiful beach area.

Review 34:Staff efficient but not over friendly.. diningroom somewhat busy and not always fully catered for breakfast.

Review 35:The location is superb....we treated ourselves due to location as v pretty.

Review 36:Location is perfect, they have their own private beach, the rooms are spacious and clean and the breakfast is great. There is also parking if you decide to drive your own car.

Review 37:We had a safe that didn't work and although the guy on duty was very pleasant he clearly was not going to do anything about it. The hairdryer was a death trap! To check out and get our car took over an hour.....

Review 38:great view

Review 39:Wifi not great apart from when sitting in reception and because the hotel is so close to the road it can be a little noisey but it's more than worth it for staying in a beautiful hotel in the most fantastic place

Review 40:The staff, the location, the rooms, the beach, pretty much everything

Review 41:Our room was on the front if the hotel, with a lovely view, but right above the road, which was a bit noisy.

Review 42:Hotel in good location, within easy walking distance from Portofino, although some of this walk is on a narrow and very busy road with no footpath. Interior of the hotel is not like the quaint and picturesque exterior, rooms were spacious with lovely views, but stark and plain. Private beach is gorgeous.

Review 43:Situated just below the Splendido, Piccolo is a very attractive alternative offering a very pretty and comfortable setting for less cost. Samuel was extremely helpful too in helping us navigate our car and luggage given the location is right on a tight turn. There is a peaceful bay with a beach to swim just across from Piccolo.id highly recommend!

Review 44:We had a room with a fabulous view! We opened the shutters to see the Mediterranean directly in front of us. The hotel has a rocky beach and lounge chairs. There is a lovely path that takes you down to the port. It was a magical place!

Review 45:Wi fi only works in lobby and restaurant and breakfast is only indoors but excellent

Review 46:Large room with a large window view of the ocean, terraces with shade or sun next to the sea, very friendly and helpful staff - would stay again and again!

Review 47:Wifi not good in distant rooms Sofa bed not comfortable

Review 48:Great location Nice beach Outdoor balcony Marble bathroom Very modern interiors facility Excellent beakfast

Review 49:Excellent Boutique Hotel. Just out of Portofino but with easy access via a pedestrian pathway at the back of the hotel. Modern clean rooms. Our party had deluxe sea view rooms one with a fantastic terrace but one with fantastic views but no balcony- pre dinner drinks on the terrace was fab! So book front rooms if you can and ask for a balcony or terrace. Breakfast was good and the staff polite and friendly. We went to theHotel Splendido for dinner and whilst it is definitely in a fantastic location with views and the staff were efficient the food wasn't as good as in town and if you are not a resident then the service goes down a notch or two! We definitely rate the Domina Piccolo above the Splendido as a great place to stay. It doesn't have a pool but does have a nice area of terracing down to the pebble beach with sun loungers and a great little Beach Bar serving lovely salads etc. and great wine! Can't wait to go back!

Review 50:No bar area to have a drink, just seating near the reception.

Review 51:We were travelling by motorbike an had to park a little way from the hotel entrance, but the front desk staff were very pleased to help us transport all our luggage along the roadside by trolley which was most helpful. Our room was very nice but at the back of the hotel which only had a view of a wall! However it was very quiet and so made up for the lack of view. Easy walking distance of Portofino as there was a path which is accessed from the back door and took about 10 minutes or so to walk.

Review 52:Hotel is located on a dangerous corner/street - you take your life into your hands stepping out of the front of the hotel or the back!

Review 53:My room and the view.

Review 54:We booked the superior ocean view room and, upon arrival, were led to the best room in the hotel. Room 201 has the most amazing terrace looking over the sea, an incredible bed with the same view, and a nice sitting area. The hotel is conveniently located at the end of the walking path to Portofino, so it's a simple 5 minute walk to town. Unfortunately, we only stayed for 1 night, but this hotel is worth a much longer stay. Also, the breakfast was very nice.

Review 55:That we didn't stay longer!!

Review 56:Everything! The staff were fantastic and very very helpful. If we needed anything at all, they were only too happy to help. The accommodation was luxurious & modern withing a 16th century building, just gorgeous. And we highly recommend the restaurant for dinner, it was stunning, the food was simple but very delicious. It was child friendly. And the private beach is just divine.

Review 57:Too many timeshare owners there-for dinner , the staff ignores everybody else - plus the people table-hop & are practically in your lap! To many other places in town to bother with this restaurant

Review 58:Beautiful view - friendly, but a little stand off-ish staff

Review 59:uncomfortable bed, not a very good breakfast. Parking is a problem although the car was taken away and parked.

Review 60:very helpful staff, nice room and shower room, nice dinning room. easy walk to the village and castle if you are fit, as there are masses of steps to climb.

Review 61:Our room was incredibly clean and spacious. The hotel is nestled into the cliffs overlooking the water with a beautiful private beach with lovely views and lounge areas for guests.

Review 62:The hotel has a very friendly staff who make every effort to keep you comfortable. The breakfast buffet is plentiful including the best scranbled eggs of our journey!!

Review 63:The man in reception was more busy working on his computer then helping me standing in reception. I stod for 5 minutes waiting for him, and he did see throw the window. When he first find time for me, was he very helpfull. Very bad internet, not possible to use.

Review 64:We was met by a very nice guy, that helped us with luggage, check in and parking the car. And same super service when we left.

Review 65:Nothing negative to say!

Review 66:Couldn't have asked for a better location and the sea view and large balcony a real bonus. Staff were so welcoming and friendly. We don't have a bad word to say about the place.

Review 67:if you get a room facing the sea, which is also facing the street, it can be a bit loud with the cars passing by.

Review 68:The bed was one of the best i had, ever. Parking is relatively cheap when compared to the standards of Portofino.

Review 69:everything was nice about this hotel

Review 70:Great location. Very clean room & bed sheets. Amazing sea & surrounding hills view (double room with balcony) Comfy. Has its own beach. Good breakfast variety

Review 71:No complaints

Review 72:Luigi and William were super helpful on trip planning and navigating Milan. Great location. Reasonable price and comfortable rooms. Breakfast was included. Free WiFi

Review 73:Breakfast not very exciting; and we were not impressed that anything hot cost extra, except for mass-produced scrambled eggs and bacon.

Review 74:Spacious room and view

Review 75:The WiFi was AWEFUL it didn't work at all!! Not even in the lobby. Parking is odd. And the front desk staff was a bit snobby, we are Hispanic-Americans and I don't think they liked us much. The one helpful guy had thee worst breath I have ever smelled in my life! I know that is a horrible thing to say and I am not saying it in a mean way. He really needs to take care of that. You could smell it across the lobby. The rooms weren't as big as they looked online either.

Review 76:There is no better view then here! We had a room with a balcony over looking the sea. It was a dream come true view. It was an easy walk to the town center, Portofino has some of the most amazing views you will ever see. We even saw Dolphins!

Review 77:There is guy at the reception seems to be responsible there (with a tie and suite etc... not a smily face at all!!), but in fact he should not be in contact with people!. He was very rude, not polite and you cannot ask him any question, because the first answer he gives you is a typical "NO"!!

Review 78:The location was perfect with the view and being close to the Portofino bars and restaurants

Review 79:Front desk staff not very nice. Tv functionality not good and required two pieces of equipment to be operated for function. This should have been shown or explained upon arrival. Shore line needed grooming. It seemed since it was early in the season it wasn't quite ready. Bed extremily hard. Need to provide an alternative for comfort.

Review 80:Everything was perfect.

Review 81:The staff was fantastic and set us up with 2 of the most fantastic ocean view rooms with a balcony. They took care of every need, gave us the best rooms ever! The hotel is connected to Portofino via a scenic 10 minute footpath, so it was very convenient for us to walk there without having to deal with traffic and parking. The included breakfast was also fantastic.

Review 82:Portofino is one of the most romantic places in the world. Very nice hotel. Thanks a lot to young man at reception who gave us room 201 with big terrace and sea view instead of standard room which we had booked. Great breakfast.Definitely will go back.

Review 83:Bad parking, they park your car off site then we were waiting 30minutes when we wanted to leave for them to bring the car and charged an extra 18€ for the service

Review 84:The view, the room decor

Review 85:It'd be better if the hotel had a place like a cafe/bar to enjoy drinks and get refreshed when you feel tired and want to stay at the hotel.

Review 86:Eeach and every thing

Review 87:Well, this is one of the most exclusives places in the world and the hotel to!

Review 88:Noisy water-pipes overhead at night but assumed there wasn't anything they could do about that so just enjoyed to comfy bed and made the most of it.

Review 89:Pretty much everything - it was stunningly beautiful, fantastic location, lovely room and view, helpful staff, delicious breakfast and the strongest coffee I've ever had - bliss!

Review 90:The front desk blanked me the next morning. 18 euros for garage parking.Hotel price was double our other stays.

Review 91:Sea view but heavy rains delayed our arrival so we couldn't enjoythe sunset and had to rush the next morning. The breakfast was fabulous.

Review 92:The garbage truck at 6 am.

Review 93:The location was fantastic! Our room was small, but clean, and stylishly decorated. The views were amazing! Breakfast was terrific. Would definitely return.

Review 94:We went in October 2014 and it rained a few days (Genoa got flooded). It would have been nice to have a decent bar and lounge area at the hotel to relax when you couldn't go out due to weather. Note: Portofino closes-up for winter season at end of October/1st week in November through to early April.

Review 95:Excellent location with amazing views. get a seaview room - you won't be disappointed. All you'll need for breakfast and nice dinner options changing daily if you want to eat at Domina Piccolo. Fanstastic private beach and sun terraces. Beds are large and comfy (but maybe too hard for some) Splendido is two minutes walk up the hill behind Domina if you want a 'better' view from the terrace / bar/ restaurant but prices are high but great entertainment in evenings. We arranged taxi transfer from Genoe via SunTransfers online and all worked perfectly - driver waiting and on-time for return. We would go back again to Domina but probably in spring..

Review 96:Walking out the front door directly onto busy street.

Review 97:This hotel is not located in the harbor shown in most photos of Portofino and this is a good thing! It is a charming walk from the "touristy" harbor to an adjacent cove. The private pebble beach is spectacular. It even has a small restaurant. Our room was beautiful and breakfast was great.

Review 98:Everything in Portofino is expensive

Review 99:The location is perfect. The rooms with a sea view are really nice. 5 min by walk to Portofino. The Hotel has his own beach.

Review 100:they should not charge for parking as the hotel is not cheap either. the prices are a bit high.

Review 101:the view from the room was breath taking! the hotel is 3 min walking distance to portofino center. all the other hotels are a bit far away. it has its own bay that you can swim. breakfast was also very delicious.

Review 102:I really wish we could say everything was excellent, but... The daytime host was less than welcoming, I don't think I saw him smile a single time. He was always "right to the point" when answering a question and made us feel like we were an interruption, and if you asked more than one question it was worse. We didn't have that unwelcomed feeling with any of the other staff. Perhaps he is overworked? On our second night we asked someone about room service because there wasn't any information in the room, other than a form to fill out for in-room breakfast delivery if desired. We were told there would be a daily menu near the elevator to choose from, but it was never there, only a large wine menu. We wanted to be able to have lunch, dinner or maybe even a snack in our room, but there was never a list to order from. We could have called the kitchen, but without a list to order from I wasn't interested in trying to determine what was and wasn't available over the phone. The air conditioning system could be more efficient, the room always felt warm even at the lowest setting. We had to open the balcony doors to cool down the room to sleep, but then the mosquitos were getting into the room and buzzing our ears. All in all our stay was very nice. It's just a few unnecessary issues that make the difference between a good stay and a great one.

Review 103:The location of this hotel is spectacular. The secluded beach across the street, the 5 minute walk to town, and the outdoor lunch area above the beach made for a wonderful experience. I believe we made a great choice when booking this location. The hotel has a modern character, and the comfortable size of our room, with a balcony overlooking the water, made for a very pleasant atmosphere. We hope to stay here again for a few days, in the future.

Review 104:Internet was slow because of the hotels location.

Review 105:This hotel has a wonderful restaurant with great food and service on a nice patio with beautiful views of the water. It has a beach across the street that has lounge chairs and a bar.

Review 106:Everything....the staff was great, the hotel looks fine, the restaurant is very good, and above all the area by the beach is amazing and really unique. The center of town is only 10 min walk. If you are looking to relax a little in Portofino this would be a great place. Highly recommended!

Review 107:Everything was perfect

Review 108:An outstanding hotel ! View from the room to Portofino bay was breathtaking. The room was beautifully decorated, very comfortable bed and private balcony was an extra bonus. Although above the small road which leads to Portofino any noise was easily blocked by closing the windows and is not a problem at all ! The private beach was stunning and enjoyed having facilities from the beachfront 'cafe'. Dinner at the restaurant was amazing. Front reception staff...all staff were courteous and helpful. I would only stay at this hotel if visiting Portofino. Thank you for a wonderful stay!

Review 109:The tall guy from Naples , was very aggressive on our arrival . Other staff we're good, the guy in the evening was very welcoming and smily. The room was too noisy , difficult to sleep Interior was not relaxing.too dark walls does not creat relaxing feeling .? The room felt like a box and every thing were dark and box form. Luckily we were not there more than one night.

Review 110:The front desk recommended us to a restaurant called Strainer that leaves a horrible memory of Portofino, stealing from tourists!!!!! 96.00 EU ($150.00 Canadian $) for 2 bowls of penni with mushrooms and truffles besides the balance of out bill that totalled over 200 EU.

Review 111:Beautiful view, great for walking to and from Portofino and Santa Marguarita. friendly and helpful staff in most cases.

Review 112:The location of the hotel couldn't be more perfect! Private beach was amazing with a great little bar and a number of different locations to sit/lay. Hotel is only a 5min walk on the main road to the town (beautiful scenic walk) and only 15min (35€) can ride from the train station. The room itself was great for us.

Review 113:Nothing - don't usually pay these room prices but well worth it for a stunning location and staff who couldn't do enough to help.

Review 114:Friendly staff. Easy walk into centre - 10mins. Garage in town but staff happy to provide transport to collect. Wonderful location.

Review 115:We were met at the front and our luggage was taken from our car and the car was taken by the hotel staff to the parking station. From that moment everything was perfect. Our room looked out onto the water and the private beach was across the road. Lunch and drinks were offered at the beach plus your own sun lounge. Very indulgent.

Review 116:A bit of noise in the room at night (possibly from water pipes), nothing major. Price still a little steep but definitely worth the effort.

Review 117:Incredible sea view from our room 103. Access to a semi-private beach (a rare find in Portofino) with free sun chairs. Good breakfast. Understated, elegant design of the room and hotel in general. Efficient staff. We'll definitely come back!

Review 118:Room was very spacious, clean and modern. The hotel's parking is very convenient since Portofino is a small town and parking is not widely available.

Review 119:TV didn't work. I complained on 3 separate occasions that the TV didn't work. I asked for the TV box to be changed, I was told they would get someone to fix it. When I was checking out and again complained the reply was oh well!!!

Review 120:Really nothing bad to report. Wifi was a little patchy in the room, particularly on phones, but ok with a laptop. Breakfast would have benefitted from the addition of fruit and tomatoes, but was otherwise very good.

Review 121:Location is great, very picturesque and overlooking the bay, with a 5 minute walk along the hillside path to Portofino harbour. On arrival the valet parking was very convenient - we were directed to park in one of the spaces on the road just beyond the hotel and the staff took care of the rest. Check in was friendly and efficient, and wifi access codes were free. The room (108) had a sea view and was modern, well decorated, spacious and had a sofa bed in the living area for the children. The bathroom was clean and modern, and there were plenty of towels. Extra pillows were provided without hesitation on request. Breakfast is served in the dining room on the ground floor and was typically continental with a reasonable selection of croissants, breads, cakes, meats, cheese, yoghurts, fruit juices etc. Scrambled eggs and bacon were available at the buffet too. The beach is pebbly but there are plenty of modern clean sun beds on the terraces above with free towels. The beach bar and restaurant were good and reasonably priced by Portofino standards. Paraggi beach is a very pleasant 10 minute walk along the path through the trees on the hillside above the road.

Review 122:The staff are not only indifferent but rude, they also told us that to get to sainta margarita we couldn't take our own car because there's no parking, which was a lie, they just could not be bothered to collect our car from their garage. The hot food at breakfast was non exsistent which you can deal with but it's the staffs attitude towards everything was as of guests are real burdens

Review 123:The location and the rooms are very nice.

Review 124:One of the worst staff i ever seen. Not very efficient and with a terrible mood, never nice! Only when to say Arriverdeci! A woman that helped us in breakfast, was the only nice person.Well maybe it's the way they are used too...

Review 125:It's placed in an amazing scenery, it has an nice view, good facilities for the "private" beach. Rooms are not amazing, but very good. I surely advise if you find a good deal.

Review 126:Wifi was inefficient. Constantly requiring a password for access seems unnecessary.

Review 127:Private beach with beautiful views and short walk to Portofino. Rooms and bathrooms although small are new and modern

Review 128:The location (5min walk from downtown Portofino) and the private beach in front of the hotel definitely make hotel worthwhile. Also the breakfast was good, and the room was small but modern and quite comfortable. I would definitely recommend as an affordable option in Porto Fino
