Reviews for Greenhouse Backpackers Melbourne

Review 1:Nothing

Review 2:This place has everything you need. Great atmosphere, plenty of hot showers, comfy beds, fun and sociable tours; I'd recommend it to everyone.

Review 3:Some of staff - not all - were a bit unhelpful when asking standard transportation questions.

Review 4:Great common area. Great free activities. Great location.

Review 5:The bathrooms where disgusting. I saw a lot off cleaning staff but i suposed they forgatten About the bathrooms ;) Washing your clothes was really expensive compared to other hostels!

Review 6:In the middle of the hotspots, Free WiFi, friendly staff

Review 7:Because I'm an asian and Muslim, I prefer if we put off the shoes/slippers outside of the dorm. It's not really hygenic for me.

Review 8:Worth the money I paid. The staffs are very helpful. I love all the facilities, and the location is great too. 98% satisfaction for a woman that travelling alone.

Review 9:The room looked like it had been lived in already once we arrived. The cleaners hadn't even reached our room yet.

Review 10:I liked the reception staff, they were nice people.

Review 11:The breakfast is absolutely horrid, even for a budget hostel. The only things to put on your toast are canola butter, peanut butter and strawberry jam from 5 KG buckets. Considering that you can buy jam and bread for about $3 all combined for a couple of days it absolutely doesn't add anything of value. The cornflakes also left much to be desired, the milk was good though. Besides this there should be better locker facilities than 'leave your valuables at reception', while it does work it's not convenient and it raises the question why there are so many lockers in the rooms and hallways which the hostel doesn't recommend using.

Review 12:Relatively quiet for a large hostel. Good beds. The facilities are great, e.g. the computers you can use and the well-equipped kitchen, and the wifi is stable.

Review 13:Claustrophobic room! No window. Very thin walls and extremely dirty bin covered in god knows what. Bottle tops found under bed and very dirty/dusty corners of bunk bed. Both lockers available were very difficult to lock - mechanism always jammed. Door to room did not feel particularly secure - frame very flimsy so I didn't feel entirely safe.

Review 14:Wifi access very useful & I happened to have a room that allowed me to access it there rather than just communal areas. Proximity to transport, shops, in general central location was great.

Review 15:the staffs are nice and friendly everything is clean kitchen is cleaned at least twice a day. the room is spacious. easy to explore the city and especially all the lanes to find hidden gems There are activities everyday like movie on rooftop on Monday. Definitely gonna stay here next time I come back to Melbourne

Review 16:-air conditioning temperature setted too low in my opinion -no window in our room -Wi-fi signal absent on my floor

Review 17:-spacious double room -safe in room -helpful staff -big TV room -internet points avaiable

Review 18:Very dark room, a lot have no windows. good if you don't stay long

Review 19:Great location. Very clean (kitchen, bathroom, room) Free luggages room when you check out

Review 20:I have made a request of bottom bed, however, the reception cannot make it. Everyday same breakfast (bread slice, butter jam, peanut butter jam, strawberry jam). If it can be improved is better (eg. Cup cake, Bao...)

Review 21:Near free tram station

Review 22:It's small but a lack of power points was a definite problem - everyone needs to charge devices and that could be improved

Review 23:Well laid out with good facilities, easy to deal with staff, was a nice vibe and facilities were suitable

Review 24:Waited all day for staff to put covers on our beds, once we had checked in, after asking twice we went back up and they handed us our own bedding and we had to make them ourselves in a room of 6 people. Not a good first impression.

Review 25:The location was good!

Review 26:The free breakfast and kitchen in general left something to be desired but I think this is pretty standard with hostels of this size.

Review 27:We stayed in a double room which was well aerated, clean, spacious and modern. Included a wardrobe with hangers and a full length mirror. Black out blind also available. Staff were helpful and friendly. Would massively recommend the free Fitzroy walking tour- really informative and left time for cheap pizza and beer. Really sociable TV area. Location couldn't be better.

Review 28:The rooms are fitted with central air conditioning systems and can get a little cold

Review 29:Extremely convenient and walkable to most attractions. Also, the free dinners on tuesdays were really good! Definitely one of the best backpackers that i've stayed at

Review 30:1 ..Our room was next to Male Showers on 3rd Floor. Water leaked along common wall onto carpet and one of our calico bags. Staff didn't offer anything but "thanks for telling us .. I thought it had been fixed".2.. Room had no window. 3.. There was no indication on website that Checkin Office was on 6th Floor and 6-8 steps to elevator from Flinders Lane entrance ... a problem if one is disabled.

Review 31:The location and the free use of their computers. It reminded me of theyha, of which I am a member.

Review 32:At reception was not possibble to print our boarding passes. That would be important, even if you charge something for it.

Review 33:Good location, nice, clean place to stay.

Review 34:biggest issue was shared fridges had no space and there was little to no sound proofing we had private room but could hear everyone on our floor fortunately being on a quite floor everyone kept pretty calm.

Review 35:clean and great location simple but effective. you get what you pay for a no frills accommodation for no frills price. right by tram and train stations in heart of great city

Review 36:I thought the door on the ground floor used to be open? The meals staff were friendly, but the staff at reception could be a bit more welcoming.

Review 37:So convenient to shopping and transport. The spaghetti and salad meal were really nice. The staff were helpful with my belongings.

Review 38:very bad hostel, poor! The stuff was friendly, but the room was very dirty and noise all the time.8 people in the room and soo expensive.the breackfast is always the same every day.

Review 39:Bathrooms got quite grubby throughout the day. Also we didn't have a window on our room so it was very easy to sleep in on the mornings.

Review 40:Located very central on flinders lane. Close to the free team zone. Rooms where big and cleAn. Free breakfast includes cereal and toast and plenty tea and coffee available, but what else do you need? Possibly one of the best backpackers I've stayed in!!

Review 41:Really good location in very center of Melbourne, room was clean, had no windows what was for us strange, but still most of the time being there we spend in shared-room.

Review 42:It was a bit noisy at night. Sound insulation of room is too awful...... the Wifi is so "tricky", takes me ages get connected ...

Review 43:Brilliant Location!! Very safe and convenient. Quite cleam!

Review 44:Kitchen and lounge room needed a bit off new facilities . Seats in lounge are worn out.

Review 45:Location, very clean bed sheets, security to rooms, each bed had a separate locker in the room, 24/7 reception.

Review 46:The dirtiness of others guests but the hostel can t do much !

Review 47:One of the best youth hostel in Melbourne. Everything was great, people very helpful, WiFi for free everywhere, the hostel is in the heart of Melbourne and you have one free activity every day

Review 48:could do with a bit more room in the room, the beds were too low to get lugage underneath resulting in us all having to leave lugage in the middle of the floor.

Review 49:Great hostel, plenty of space on the 6th floor, kitchen a good size and well equipt. lockers in rooms, comfortable bed, nice room mates, nice atmosphere. will be staying here again!

Review 50:Thin walls meant you could sometimes hear/feel others in rooms around you (if you accidentally pushed the wall you could feel it on the other side) And the male showers don't have a place to hang your clothes/toiletries, which was a bit of an inconvenience

Review 51:How convenient everything was, and free food is always good :D

Review 52:Had no negatives about the place itself! But one of the girls in the room didn't wake up to her early alarm and it went on for AAAAGES.

Review 53:Location, convenience, breakfast :)

Review 54:Room had four girls in already who were pleasant, but three of them had room untidy

Review 55:location, breakfast included and discount for some of things to do in Melbourne

Review 56:Very noisy due to the walls only being plasterboard partitions and noise curfew very loosely enforced. Cooking facilities very dirty even after staff members had cleaned, tea towels very dirty and smelly, and poor quality utensils. I assumed 'greenhouse' would attract a more conscientious and respectful guests.

Review 57:Great location and the hostel feels very safe and secure. Wifi connection was generally very good.

Review 58:The room Was good pitty that 4 days no Window become bit :-/ claustrophobic

Review 59:Excelent price for the ss. At floor 6, breakfast and wifi . The espaces All the time everyplace very Clean we stay there 4 nights. Good choise but book before!!

Review 60:The bathroom should be installed with access card lock to permit use of bathroom by only the correct guests. I had saw a guy coming out from the ladies bathroom and I am pretty sure he is not the hostel cleaner. It was already 10.30pm at that time! The showers were barely warm. I did not get a good nights rest due to other guests coming in and out late, talking and closing the room doors loudly. Reminders should be given to all people who stay there to be considerate to the other guests. Bathrooms weren't always clean. Not enough sockets in the room. Only 2 sockets in a 6 people dorm. Not clean and not comfortable lobby area and the wifi was just absolutely horrible.

Review 61:Great location. Lockers provided in rooms.

Review 62:I lived in mixed dorm on the upper bed. In my lower bed, on the first day of arrival, there's a couple making out. The girls on the other two beds are super noisy and keep chatting till 2am

Review 63:Location is perfect - its right next to Flinders station and St Paul's cathedral. Super downtown. Cannot be better

Review 64:had a double room. walls didn't go all the way up, there was a 5 cm gap, so we could hear everything from the neighbour rooms (even very silent things!); no window and so no regulation of heat inside the room (sometimes far too hot!); very rude, drunk and loud people every night and the staff did nothing, even if they shouted in the lobby; very unclean and not very comfortable lobby area and the wifi was just absolutely horrible, it never worked and when it worked, it was unbelievably slow when more than a few people used it (and no wifi outside of the lobby); washrooms were closed from 10-11 or 11-12 in the morning, so very bad for people who wanted to sleep a little longer; rooms were unclean, the floor was disgusting; no good sleep any night because of the loudness that kept on with smashing doors and people who talked all night long (even if they were quiet when talking, you could hear everything because of the walls). We had a very bad stay there and by paying 80 dollars per double room a night we were very upset for what we got for our money.

Review 65:Nice activities in the evening, such as free dinner, going to bars etc, staff was friendly, enough toilets and showers for girls (not enough toilets for boys), nice rooftop, big lobby area with a lot of chairs and tables, very good located in the city, everything was reachable in a short walking time

Review 66:A toilet door which you could not close

Review 67:The location of the Hostel is really nice and there is always something going on in the hostel like free guided tours and other stuff.

Review 68:Only thing i didn't like was that i couldn't stay here in Melbourne a little longer

Review 69:Awesome spot! Right in the heart of melbourne. Staff seemed super polite and friendly.

Review 70:The place is close everthing and on free tram zone. You also can meet great people who are hosted like you and make friends of all world. It was very cool !

Review 71:Paper thin walls!!!!!!! This was so horrible we could clearly hear peoples conversations and see their lights. We had a private room, really don't know why we paid extra when we still didn't get peace and was woken up at all hours. The showers were barely warm. Horrible pressure, I think I came home sick due to cold showers Beds were too soft and too noisy bed, you can wake yourself us by just turning

Review 72:Great location. Good discounts on attractions, Good price, but with a bad stay I won't be back, I'll save a little extra next time for a hotel.

Review 73:Rooms were very cramped, internet never worked as it was unlimited so everyone was using it and streaming videos (I would suggest a cap on it so everyone else can get a turn). wasn't too dirty, but i definitely wouldn't say it was clean, toilets weren't great and the kitchen was disgusting. I cannot believe how much we payed for this in comparison to all the other hostels. This is the first bad review I have ever made on booking.com, hopefully it is the last.

Review 74:Free breakfast was good as they had unlimited supplies of bread. Staff were pretty friendly.

Review 75:I dont know why but people at this hostel left incredible mess in the kitchen, one member of the staff said we can borrow blankets for philip island tour, the other one said we cant because of some stiupid stuff he made up. Im afraid you wont find anything better for that money.

Review 76:Location, price, tours agency, free breakfest

Review 77:There was no window in the room, and was quite dark but I guess that wasn't too much of an issue as the walls weren't quite high enough so we got the light shining in from next door... The bed was very rickety and debatable stains on the sheets. Couldn't stay the night as we were itching all over, but if you do watch out for the bed bugs!

Review 78:Location was excellent

Review 79:My room was so messy. I stayed in a room where I am with a roommate who seems to be living for more than 3-4 months. It is like he owns the place. All his stuff were everywhere.

Review 80:The location. Security. The staff.

Review 81:The bathroom never was actually clean. This is also due to your fellow travelers but still, hairs everywhere and the toilets were dirty most of the time. The rooms have very thin walls, can hear everything your neighbour in the other room has to say. No wifi in your room, only in common area. Also kitchen area was dirty most of the time, again also due to fellow travelers but still. Staff seemed grumpy mostly and could have been a bit nicer.

Review 82:Location is excellent, when taking skybus from aiport they will drop you off at only 100M from the hostel. Supermarket Coles also very close which is very convenient. Private big locker spaces in the room is a big plus.

Review 83:toliets could have been cleaner as sanatary bins could have been changed more frequently, bed could have been more comfy and walls should be thicker as i could hear the whole convo next door

Review 84:showers were nice and strong

Review 85:the breakfast is between 7-9am.. a little bit early in my opinion

Review 86:the hostel is located in the middle of the everything. within a couple of minutes you can find the train station, tram station and shops and restaurants all around

Review 87:Too crowded...specially at breakfast time. Pantry is a mess as compared to those I've seen at other hostels, it was noisy even in the "silence area" and had poor wifi.

Review 88:The location

Review 89:Where to begin? Booked 6 months in advance but still got a windowless and cramped inner-building room. So be aware: there are two types of shared doubles, with and without window and couch. Both were heavily overpriced, both were dirty, both had paper-thin walls, both had small beds, both are not worth your money. Modern pictures as shown are no realistic depiction of the rooms (anymore).

Review 90:CBD location.

Review 91:The guests are not clean, but the cleaning staff must do better their job. The sink was plenty of food after their "cleaning tasks" and the floor plenty of soap. The mattress must be renewed (I feel the springs). The wifi does not work continously.

Review 92:A few minuts of restaurants, cafés, supermarket, transport... The breakfast was ok.

Review 93:The staff both when arriving and leaving very rude and disinterested There were 3 members of staff behind the counter all ignoring us and one was eating a large sandwich. Didn't like having to strip bed and take sheets, pillow case and towels down to reception when we checked out.

Review 94:Very convenient good location

Review 95:The wifi and the internet access - apart from being available only in the lobby - were absolutely horrendous. Slower than slow.

Review 96:The location - it's very central. Other than that, it's just a convenient place to sleep for the night, don't expect luxuries.

Review 97:The free breakfast was terrible, everyday they had- corn flakes, rice bubbles, jam and peanut butter.. This is all well and good, but after a week, you get sick of looking at the same options

Review 98:Locations good, right near everything

Review 99:We were easily disturbed by the noise from the corridor as well as from the next room.

Review 100:The location is great. Staffs are very friendly and helpful all the time. Large public areas are great.

Review 101:Wifi simply was not usable. Ended up having to dig into my mobile data allowance. Even in the designated Wifi area on level 6, its still so intermittent it is essentially unusable

Review 102:Location could not get better

Review 103:No window in room; no sound-proofing, (overhearing hallway 9pm singalong = nice, but inescapable; overhearing bathroom stuff and drunk revelry = not so great); bathroom cleanliness was a bit hit and miss. Was ok, could have been better.

Review 104:Location was absolutely brilliant; staff were helpful and responsive; enough toilets and showers for everyone; seemed like a nice place. I think I got my money's worth.

Review 105:the room was a windowless box, air was a bit stuffy - no soundproofing in false ceiling meant loud drunk backpackers at 4am could be heard clearly.

Review 106:good bathroom facilities for a backpackers, nice shower. kitchen looked pretty useful although i didnt cook anything there.

Review 107:There should be a sign putting in every female toilet/shower room emphasizing the bin is for female sanitary products ONLY!

Review 108:Great location and comfortable bed

Review 109:The room (511) was in the middle section of the floor, the ventilation wasn't very good, warm in the room during the day.

Review 110:Got into our room, 2 bed room, as I had minor staying with me, wasn't happy about the mattress on a bed. Brought it to the attention of the staff, promptly changed, felt like a new mattress. Fantastic service!

Review 111:Bit dirty bathroom. Normally clean but sometimes somebody left their rubbish... and kitchen is untidy... prepare gloves!

Review 112:This backpacker is more than my expectation. Especially, its location was perfect. If u r planning to look around the city and travel with trem, u should put this place in ur list.

Review 113:the beds, the room, the no windows in the rooms, messy rooms, men walking around with only undies on making everyone uncomfortable...

Review 114:the location - only

Review 115:Rooms weren't cleaned for 6 days, it cost $2 for a clean towel. Most of the people in the hostel were living there so it felt like we were staying in somebody's house, we didn't feel very welcome. One of the guys in reception was so rude to us when we were checking out he never spoke at all.

Review 116:The shower was very cold. This was for all the 4 day we stayed there. The breakfast stopped way too early.. Checkout is at 10am but breakfast already stops at 9am. There is also a lot of noise during the night so if you want quietness, this is not your place to be.

Review 117:The location was perfect; right in the middle of the city centre. The staff was also very nice and you can book your tours through the hostel.

Review 118:First in best dressed for the bed bunks no matter when you book. We booked in an 4bed dormitory as an elderly couple needing to stay together but as it was a late arrival we got top bunks divided by wall between us. A bit daunting for a woman with two unknown men snoring away. A nightmare.

Review 119:Clean and amenities lovely and well thought out.

Review 120:- Some female guest/s doesnt flush and clean toilet/s after use. Gosh girls. If you are menstruating, clean up properly! Blood every where is not hygienic and disgusting! - Im not using WiFi or do breakfast since I always out before 7 and return after 8. - Next door room were too noisy because they were fighting one night. However, it was clear out by around 11-12 ish.

Review 121:Got the same room as I was before. Staffs were quick, responsive, helpful and friendly Good location, good stay. Roomies nice and friendly (one snore tho...:D) Get to stay in the lower bunk.

Review 122:- overcrowded kitchen due to too many people sharing 1 kitchen

Review 123:+ security with card access + location is perfect, very near to Flinders street station, trams

Review 124:Kitchen and common room were not very clean Wifi was only available in the common room and connection was poor.

Review 125:Very confortable and quiet room. EXCELLENT location in central Melbourne

Review 126:The internet is bad at evening time. It was enough just for txt chatting. Sometimes it was difficult to find free space at a refrigerator.

Review 127:Excellent location. Staff are friendly and can help you to resolve your problems with staying. Daily events are interesting. Utensils and different plates are enough for everyone, who cooking at the same time

Review 128:Smell cigarette everywhere, especially stairs, wall too thin we couldnt sleep, people do not respect, too noise, carpet aound everywhere, my room i felt i was in a prison...too closed no windows....i found a cockroach in my room...disgusting

Review 129:Where is located, travel agency that is located at the same place, police station close, everything close

Review 130:Can't beat the location. Security was good and had a good stay. No windows in rooms so good for sleeping but also means you have no idea what time it is!!

Review 131:We forgot that it was a backpacker hostel... So don't hope any charm. The room didn't have any windows, the walls are so thin that you sleep with your neighbors (if they sleep and don't make any noise). Wifi only works in reception floor.

Review 132:Location. Staff was friendly. Clean

Review 133:Best thing here was the company, making new friends from all paths, and I was happy not to be the only unemployed job hunter living on a credit card..melbourne's job market is like ice that doesn't melt..

Review 134:The wifi is only in the common area. Not so convenient. The bed is too soft. Breakfast is too simple, but it's free.

Review 135:Clean, quiet, friendly staff, perfect location. Safe, just beside the police station. :)

Review 136:Was very noisy even in the private rooms. Bed was comfortable but unsterdy and squeaky

Review 137:Clean and close to cbd. Felt very safe. Gave you towels and toiletries which most backbackers don't. Check in and out was simple and easy with no stupid huge deposit needed, which was great for a 1 night stay.

Review 138:Wifi is inconsistent. Not much selection of breakfast though there is near by Mcdonalds and convenience stores nearby.

Review 139:The hostel is near Flinders street station and accessible with both the subway and tram. It is also around a 2 minute walk to St. Paul Cathedral where most tours designate as a meet up point. The rooms and bathroom are well maintained with ample space to move around

Review 140:Rooftop furniture was a bit old.

Review 141:The staff were so friendly and willing to help out. A lot of security measures (key access doors) to protect your belongings and make you feel comfortable. Rooftop was a great attribute. Overall fairly neat. Would definitely stay there again!

Review 142:Wifi connection is poor...

Review 143:The hotel is right across from the federation square and is close to everywhere. Flinders lane itself is also a place full of surprises and artistic atmosphere. Staff is nice. Room and bed and bathroom are all clean. It's safe and requires a room card to enter the hallway of every floor.
