Reviews for Hotel del Sole

Review 1:Unfortunately, because the hotel is so close to the ruins there is a lot of traffic and noise that can be heard in the room even with the shutters closed at night.

Review 2:Super close to the Pompeii ruins. Secure gated parking was a huge plus.

Review 3:Comfort of room was pretty average really, i expected more from a 3 star rated hotel. Double bed was 2 singles of different height shoved together.

Review 4:Right outside the entrance to the ruins of Pompeii. well placed for local bars, restaurants etc.

Review 5:Cold showers, toilet seat completely broken, we felt like we were irritating staff when we asked for directions, they directed us to tourist trap when we asked for information, breakfast basic & too much cake with not much else

Review 6:Secure parking

Review 7:Although there were rooms, the receptionist refused to give me room overlooking the ancient city of Pompeii.

Review 8:Beautiful, breakfast ok. The hotel's private parking.

Review 9:Location, service and rooms, showers and breakfast was good. Great value for money. Overall had a great experience in Pompeii... Would come here again

Review 10:Breakfast is cake and more cake TV sets are tiny in room Worst was no hot water in bathroom Price is way over facilities provided

Review 11:Location Friendly staff very helpful

Review 12:Room was very noise , from the street, neigbours, but the worst was the noise from the lobby , including TV , people and staff shouting to each other. Over breakfast we had to ask for cups ,( only two slices of ham and cheese) , no acknowledgement from staff.

Review 13:Location! Clean room!

Review 14:Street noise was a bit loud and beds were hard. Made it a bit difficult to get a good nights rest.

Review 15:Excellent location to Pompei ruins and downtown, clean large sized room and the staff were wonderful!

Review 16:The room was quite dark but otherwise comfortable. We booked last minute so we received the disabled room (which I wasn't entirely aware of) but it was a good price.

Review 17:The free wifi, parking and breakfast were wonderful and make for a comfortable stay. The location was excellent, within restaurants and shops.

Review 18:I hurt my foot and had difficulty to move around and during this time the elevator broke (room was at the top floor), person at check-out (05.15 AM) was absolutely incompetent and didn't speak any English - I spent at least 15 min explaining that I paid for the stay at the check-in, while being already late to go to the airport - really unpleasant end of otherwise quite a nice stay.

Review 19:Just in front of the entrance to the archaeological site, nice staff at the check-in, good Wi-Fi, clean, breakfast OK.

Review 20:Bedding, particularly the pillows, were not very comfortable. Shower (at 7.30am) was luke-warm at best.

Review 21:Literally the closest hotel to the entrance to Pompeii. Helpful staff. Parking available. Cheap deal.

Review 22:Breakfast poor - lots of chocolate cake & cold pizza. Juice out of machine - very sweet.

Review 23:Location opposite pompeii site could not have been better for a one night stay. Family room better than expected - it was two adjoining rooms with shared bathroom. Basic but very clean.

Review 24:No bar to relax and as it was off-season, the restaurant had no atmosphere. Would have liked a coffee maker in the room, especially as we were in the Junior suite.

Review 25:The location is excellent. A short walk to Pompeii centre with variety of restaurants on the way. Directly in front of the ruins and entrance.

Review 26:Wi-fi not great, Breakfast was bearable.

Review 27:staff were really friendly and helpful, the location was unbelievable. straight across the street from the ruins and about 10 mins walk to the train station. 10 mins walk in other direction to the centre of modern Pompeii - food down there great! lovely garden to sit out in just to chill. bathrooms were great and decor of the whole hotel was of a good standard. I would stay here again

Review 28:They were not really geared up for breakfast. We were a party of 6 and the tables were not set for us in the morning. Meat and bread ran out quickly and the coffee was cold.

Review 29:Very friendly staff and we wanted to change rooms for ones with balconies and they obliged without question

Review 30:Bedroom a bit small but not a problem really.

Review 31:Proximity to ruins and restaurants although it has a good restaurant itself. Nice gardens.helpful staff. Comfortable bed.

Review 32:The free wifi didn't work anywhere in the hotel. The breakfast was terrible with black crusty toast and unfriendly staff who rather spend their time chatting than servicing guests.. We had to ask several times if they could refill various parts of the buffet.. Our room was dirty, with thick black hairs all over the place and on the walls in the shower.. Also, mold and fungus in every corner of the shower.. yuk! The shutters that were in front of all the windows at the back of the building were slamming against the walls during the whole night, probably because some guests forgot to secure them, but in our room it sounded like a bomb went off each time a shutter crashed into the building by a gust of wind. The staff didn't offer any compensation or didn't even apologize for the inconvenience. They took our passports as security deposit, but forgot to return them during check out. We were on a road trip through Europe and already far away from Pompei, so I asked them to mail the passports to us by registered/insured mail, but they sent them by standard mail and we still haven't received them after 1 month and we don't have a tracking code, so they're probably lost... Thanks Hotel del Sole!!!

Review 33:The location is very nice, near the old city of Pompei and the excavations. Free parking behind the hotel.

Review 34:The left luggage is literally left in the public lounge, so anyone could run off with it.

Review 35:Fantastic location! Opposite the less well known amphitheatre entrance to Pompeii, which is also a shorter distance from the northern rail line, no queues and we actually got maps to the site! They were very helpful and welcoming, comfy clean room and huge choice of Italian style breakfast, more cake than I knew what to do with! We also used the restaurant, which I'd also recommend. Great stay.

Review 36:I wanted to cancel next day for business purpose they did not accept refund last night I have paid 2 night only for night because of their policies cancellation or modifying is imposible

Review 37:Location was good

Review 38:Fridges were provided in the hotel room, but you had to pay €2 for a big bottle of water from the bar if you wanted one. Not great especially when it's hot weather, bottles of water should be provided free of charge. Also, the breakfast wasn't pleasant..not much to chose from and only two choices of juice to drink, blood orange or pineapple..pineapple had more sugar in it than anything else. Only had breakfast the first day and the other two days we went elsewhere.

Review 39:Staff were polite and the location was perfect.

Review 40:The staff. Had to ask for toilet paper, twice. When the front clerk came to deliver the ONE toilet paper, he knocked soooooo hard on the door, we were scared to open it!

Review 41:Location and room

Review 42:No airconditioning in hall outside the rooms. Too many sweets in breakfast

Review 43:Great location directly across from the ruins of Pompeii. Free secure parking. Some rooms are renovation and they are prety nice with plenty of space

Review 44:The location is fabulous directly across from the ruins of Pompeii. They have secure on-site free parking. The restaurant has great food and they stay open really late if they have customers. The rooms are beautiful. It's just a fabulous hotel.

Review 45:Only one pillow per bed but to be fair we didn't ask for others. Check in process a bit slow as room want ready until 45 min after due check in time.

Review 46:Location is excellent. Spacious rooms and bathroom. Free parking. Proximity to restaurants & Pompei entrance.

Review 47:Unfriendly staff, the room, bed linen and curtains are from the 70s... Without the vintage glamour. Breakfast was stale. And prohibiting the use of glasses made of glass rather than plastic cups is just environmentally outrageous.

Review 48:The room was very dated and basic, the air-con was non existent and the breakfast was the poorest example of it's type I saw on my road trip around Italy. We ate out instead

Review 49:Location straight across the road from Pompeii ruins

Review 50:Perfect location for visiting the ruins. The amphitheatre entrance is just across the street. Short walk from the main station if you are travelling from Naples. Lovely little garden at the back to sit and enjoy a drink.

Review 51:Directly across from gate to Pompei ruins. Powerful A/C which was great because it was HOT outside -- was able to sleep well with the A/C on. We were able to park our (rental) car here for two days (for a small fee) while we hired a driver to take us to Positano. Not the most well decorated hotel but excellent value for money.

Review 52:The new town of Pompei lets the otherwise good experience down. Would have liked some furniture on the balcony to enjoy the view over the ruins opposite.

Review 53:The hotel is almost directly opposite one of the gates to Pompeii's ruins. Perfect if that is what you are here to see. We stayed in the junior suite which was lovely - especially the starry ceiling only visible at night!

Review 54:Breakfast was poor (selection of sweet cakes, one ham and cheese, salty bread) Bed had hard mattress . View on the back of restaurant. Not quiet till late night. Staff not really forwarding .

Review 55:Only location was excellent.

Review 56:Internet didn't work good and when on a 6 week holiday traveling the whole of Italy, it's important to keep in touch with my loved ones. They advertised internet but didn't work good. It was advertised we would overlook the ancient ruins and we only saw old buildings from our balcony.

Review 57:Location was amazing

Review 58:Breakfast was basic but at least you could have something before you started your day.

Review 59:The staff were extremely helpful especially at reception which is manned 24 hours. The rear garden is lovely to sit in and is gated to secure your car. Hotel del Sole is in the perfect location to enjoy all the area has to offer.

Review 60:Tiles on floor in bedroom loose (many- dangerous); had to ask for soap for restroom and extra pillows; quite loud at times (from a nearby business and from extremely thin walls). Breakfast was a small selection of sweet cakes and biscuits, sliced meats, and some dry cereal and plain yogurt; coffee poor (!) and no hot water for tea 2 days (of 4). We ended up eating better and healthier foods elsewhere every morning after our "AM dessert."

Review 61:Staff was fairly helpful; location right across from Amphitheatre entrance to archaeological park EXCELLENT; dinner reasonably priced and decent. Short walk (10-20 minutes) brings you to either Circumvesuviana station, from which one can visit all of the other "buried cities" sites of Herculaneum, Oplontis, Boscoreale and Stabiae- most require a fair walk from the nearest station (bring a GPS device!) .

Review 62:Very simple accommodation. Rooms facing to the street extremely noisy because the street has historic pavement and passing cars are making a big noise despite outside blinds is closed.

Review 63:We were here only for one night while visiting Pompeii. Good, simple breakfast. Good parking inside the building. Friendly staff. They let us park at the hotel during our tour of Pompeii. Great pizza for lunch.

Review 64:There was a very loud party at the restaurant of the hotel to the late night. so beware, if you are travelling with a kid, like us and prefer sleeping in the night. At the end we got offered another room, which was a little less noisy.

Review 65:Excellent location, just infront of the enterence to Pompei excavation area.

Review 66:Location, for Pompei ruins and Mt Vesivius. The hotel and restaurant staff were very helpful and always available and service with a smile! On site secure parking.

Review 67:Too many down sides for us. Breakfast was poorly stocked and each morning we had to ask for plates and eating utensils. The food was all sweets, nothing remotely healthy. The Internet worked intermittently. But worst of all, the building next door would burn something and the smoke invaded our rooms. The stench was so bad we had thought about leaving. The only nice person at the desk, a young lady, had them stop burning for us. The smell, like tar, stuck in our room and clothes.

Review 68:Clean, well appointed rooms and a perfect location next to a lesser used ruins entrance and lots of restaurants and gelato stores. If that's all that matters to you, this place is for you.

Review 69:We tried the american coffee they had out for breakfast, it was very bad. So we just asked for cappuccinos understanding that there is few places in Italy where you can get a good cup of Joe ;)

Review 70:Location of the hotel was very central, the staff was nice, clean room, nice hotel with garden and good food.

Review 71:The hotel is in a perfect location for visiting the ruins, just across the road from the entry. Also the town was a nice size with everything you might need, shops, eateries, bars, transport and not too many beggars. A breath of fresh air after Naples.

Review 72:- their were ants in our room, - breakfest could been better

Review 73:Very convenient for one day stay in Pompea. Very close to the entrance of the Museum ( the opposite side of the street). Free parking without any problems. Good restoran. In general- excellent value for money.

Review 74:Bed is a little hard, toilet takes a couple flushes to work, but for the price, still a good value

Review 75:You can't go wrong for the price, and right beside the entrance to the Pompeii ruins. Price includes breakfast and secure parking.

Review 76:Kitchens attention to cleanliness of cutlery and glassware.

Review 77:Staff very friendly. The hotel was very close to the second entrance of the archeological site. Not far to the main entrance either. Well positioned to go into the center of Pompeii.

Review 78:- Poor breakfast - Sounds from corridor are very loud, especially when some school groups are getting back from their parties - The balcony of the room was dirty, the view from the balcony was the broken roof

Review 79:- Own parking - Close to the main entrance of Pompei ruins

Review 80:Poor response to complaint about poor wifi. No international TV/satellite channels available.

Review 81:Convenience to Pompeii ruins. Safe controlled parking space. Modern facilities. Traffic noise at night (worse due to cobbled road surface). Professionally run - notwithstanding following negative points.

Review 82:Internet - first day was very stable and fast, second day it was logging me off every few minutes. Don't know which case was normal. Breakfast very basic, even for Italian standards Empty fridge in the room - arrived Sunday evening and the only option was tap water

Review 83:Location - literally 3 steps from Pompeii Scavi entrance, bus to Vesuvius and centre. Clean, big room, comfy bed Very good restaurant Low price (never paid so little in Italy for such good quality) Safe deposit box in a room, which is not that common in 3* hotels

Review 84:There were a few kids running around late at night banging doors while we were trying to sleep.

Review 85:I loved the group of students that were there helping out and learning about the tourism industry.

Review 86:If you're liking for this, this is the place to be. Always tepid, sometimes colder. Imagine the worst powdered coffee you've ever had. If that's what you crave, you won't be disappointed. Otherwise, the breakfast is typical, not spectacular, but you won't starve.

Review 87:The Wifi didn't work all of the time. Hotel restaurant menu choices weren't that great and were kind of pricey. Breakfast was a little disappointing.

Review 88:The hotels is within walking distance to the ruin sites of Pompeii. They have parking if one needs it. Staff was nice.

Review 89:Not having a kettle and tea/coffee facilities in the room. Not having cnn or bbc on the tv.

Review 90:Extreemly friendly and helpful staff and clean accomodation. Being central to the ruins.

Review 91:Perfect location opposite entrance to the scavi. We received 4-star service from the reception staff. Appreciated the free parking. Many choices at buffet breakfast. Room was large and comfortable, very quiet. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Review 92:Noise from outside nightly. Some worse than others. 'Breakfast' was minimal and the 'coffee' was a joke, tasteless, just warm! Would not stay again!!

Review 93:We had dinner and breakfast there. The food at dinner was very mediocre, especially for the price. And breakfast was fine. However, we (all 4 of us) felt like we had hawks around our table…as though we were constantly being watched…did not enjoy our meal.

Review 94:Good value for the room.

Review 95:Sadly, we did not like breakfast, but the staff was so nice that we felt bad complaining so we just walked to town and got bread, butter, coffee and orange juice.

Review 96:The staff was excellent, very friendly, very helpful. The location is great to walk to nearby busier area of town as well as the ruins. The car was safely parked on the back and for 5Euros they allowed us to leave it until we were done with our tour. Tip: If you are visiting the ruins and wish to rent an audioguide use the "Porta Marina" which is just a few blocks away from Del Sole.

Review 97:The wifi system was quite annoying you get random codes but are only good for 1 device at a time and the codes only last 24 hrs

Review 98:Excellent location, breakfast (was mostly sweet stuff as typical with Italians but it was very good)

Review 99:Breakfast was not very special

Review 100:The location was brilliant with excellent access to Pompei ruins only a short walk away. Also good for visiting Vesuvius and Herculeam. Clean and pleasent. Very enjoyable. Very secure car parking.

Review 101:Nothing to complain about.

Review 102:Excellent location, at the entrance to the excavations and the on-site secure carparking. Very helpful staff, service with a smile. Very clean rooms.

Review 103:Despite having made the reservation months ago and having requested quiet rooms on a high floor, the first night we were given rooms on the first floor. We could not rest at the beginning because there was a party. In addition to the noice, the rooms on the first floor do not have hot water and have heating problems. The hotel was full of Italian guests, who were given the best rooms. My 75+ old parents got a strong cold, cause the cold rooms and the cold water on the first floor. The room description for the first night did not correspond to the booking (balcony) and the fotos. When we made a complaint, they gave us two nicer rooms on the last floor with hot water. These rooms fit with the description and the fotos of the booking. One bad night and one good night.

Review 104:Ladies at the reception were helpful. Warm welcome. The location is fantastic. Save parking place for free. The sea food grill at the restaurant was absolutely delicious. We received as courtesy grilled vegetables (at least, to compensate for the first bad night that we had). The varieties of cakes at breakfast was great.

Review 105:Bed bugs. My partner was biten all over by bed bugs (a real dampner on our otherwise pleasant stay) The pizza in the hotel resturant was very very average even by fast food standard back home.

Review 106:Hotel del Sol was exactly what we needed we were arriving late staying one night to see the ruins and leaving that afternoon, we wanted somewhere nice, good location and value for money. It ticket all the boxes. On arrival we were not disappointed the room was basic but sufficient for our needs, nice bed and clean! Staff were nice and helpful. They didn't go out of there way or above and beyond but were not at all rude and were welcoming.

Review 107:Minor things: a halogen light switch failed to work. There was also a little TV noise from the lobby. It would be helpful to install a small shelf in the shower for shampoo.

Review 108:The breakfast offered many choices, all were good. The restaurant food for evening meals was great. Our room was modern and cleaned each day. The staff were friendly and helpful. For the quality of service and attentive staff this was great value not to mention the location was superb across the street from the Pompei ruins.

Review 109:Nothing about hotel or accommodations...Driving to it was a little hectic but to be expected near Naples.

Review 110:Easy to find, parking kind of tight but at least private lot behind hotel. Restaurant was very good! Ask for Nicco, he was friendly, helpful and attentive! Good variety for breakfast and great location across from Pompeii ruins.

Review 111:The hotel was undergoing renovations, so we could not stay on an upper floor with the view of the ruins. There was construction noise starting about 8:00 am until evening. Luckily, we were our during most daylight hours.

Review 112:Wonderful location and the best breakfast offered of all hotels we stayed in.

Review 113:The only thing I could say is that the free coffee is not very good and even the bought cappucinos could be better, but that would not stop me from staying again!

Review 114:This hotel is right across from the entrance to the Pompeii ruins and a quick walk from the train station. The staff are extremely helpful and welcoming and the room was comfortable with a clean and newish bathroom. We arrived earlier than check-in so we went to the breakfast buffet and then across to the ruins while they prepared our room. When we returned they had taken our luggage to our room and left a complimentary bottle of wine! The breakfast buffet is great with lots of choices and the dinner menu is good as well. This is a great choice for staying while you make day trips to the surrounding towns and attractions. The value is exceptional!

Review 115:everything is perfect, room quite clean and beautiful, the reception is very very very nice. location just face to the entrance of Pombei scarvi. the breakfirst is very very good with a lot of choices. anyway all is perfect!

Review 116:Nothing

Review 117:Everything! Ana and Ariana at the front desk were great they answered all our questions and helped us get around pompeii and amalfi coast. the restaurant service was great we had a waiter that spoke English and we enjoyed the tourist menu and the regular menu. Plus is nice sometimes not to go out looking for a place to eat!

Review 118:bathroom was clean but outdated.

Review 119:great location, excellent service in restaurant where they bent over backwards to make a dish for my vegetarian son! very good food for very good price

Review 120:Bed mattress a little lumpy hard

Review 121:Helpful informative happy helpful supportive staff Nothing too much of a trouble Had good anticipation of travel needs & offered good options to all enquiries Would stay with them again

Review 122:The breakfast was mostly dessert-type things, no bread, and the juice was watered down.

Review 123:Everything else! For a European style moderate price hotel, you couldn't find a better location in Pompeii, and the staff was very pleasant.

Review 124:The room was fine . The food was excellent we ate there every night for 4 nights on the terrace . The food was lovely and the staff very attentive and friendly. Have no doubts in recommending this hotel to anyone. The breakfast was good too .The location couldn't have been better for visiting Pompeii.

Review 125:Very large room with views on balcony of Mt. Vesuvius & coastal mountains on other side. A feeling of spaciousness throughout building which is often lacking in many accommodation types.

Review 126:The only windows in our room opened up to an outdoor restaurant. The noise from the restaurant went on until very late into the night. Not much sleep.

Review 127:Conveniently located across the street from Pompei ruins. Near good restaurants and beautiful town plaza and Basilica.

Review 128:the hot water pressure was very low

Review 129:Great Pizza, the best in Italy! Comfortable rooms with very friendly staff. A great central location with a nice restaurant.

Review 130:Nothing.

Review 131:We loved that it was so close to the Pompei ruins, which was our primary reason for going there. I had chosen this hotel for that reason, and the fact that it was economical for our budgets. The staff were so friendly and helpful, they all spoke some English, which was good because my travel companion had no Italian at all. The waiting staff were attentive, the food was good, plentiful and cheap! It was my birthday while we were there, and they made a big fuss, which was just lovely, with complimentary birthday cake and sparkling wine to accompany it. I couldn't speak more highly of this hotel.

Review 132:Our room was next to the main road. This is an old stone road and because of this the traffic that passes by is very very loud. All night long, incidental traffic was waking us up. If you do decide to stay: DO NOT ask for Pompeij/Vesuvius view, because it is not worth it because of the loudness of the street and you can't really see anything because of trees. Even so you don't want to sit on the balcony. The bed was very bad as well, you could feel all the springs in the mattress. Awfull... The breakfast was very poor: awful coffee, 2days old bread and an variety of overly sweet cakes.

Review 133:I really liked to visit Pompeij! Definitely worth to visit! But I would never stay at Hotel del Sole, I don't understand that it gets a 8,0 score. I'm not really demanding, but this was really beneath standard.

Review 134:The first room we where offered was not what we had been told we where having as it didn't have a balcony, however there was no trouble changing to a different one.

Review 135:Great location as it was situated opposite the ruins, close to an entrance and near the town. We found that we where not bothered by noise from the street. Meals in the restaurant, where good, with good options and their freshly made pizza's where really tasty.

Review 136:Breakfast was terrible - choice of food was poor, the bread was at least 2 days old, the waiters were not friendly. When we mentioned our experience with the breakfast to the receptionist, she began to arguing with us that it is not like as we say and that the bread is fresh because they have pizzeria and they prepare fresh bread all the times.

Review 137:Location, Kindness of receptionist and a man in the front of the hotel, fair price for accommodation
