Reviews for La Locanda Di Alia

Review 1:The staff were very efficient and friendly: we were made very welcome and looked after very well indeed. The food is truly excellent - amongst the best we have had in Italy, which is saying something.

Review 2:Tricky to find (wasn't using GPS)

Review 3:Easy parking, lovely garden, plenty of room, good cooking

Review 4:The room was not clean.

Review 5:The dinner served at the restaurant was excellent.

Review 6:We had a lot of mosquitoes in our room and we got bitten

Review 7:The food in the restaurant was excellent. Tranquil surroundings

Review 8:Breakfast rather unexpected - cake, no bread. Fancy bathtub did not function

Review 9:Tasty food, attentive service

Review 10:Aaaaah, the food = Excellent. Don't be put off by the location, because enter the grounds and you are entering a little paradise.

Review 11:Bed was a bit hard. Restaurant was pricey although we thought it was worth it. Breakfast was a disappointment - only bread, cheese, juice, coffee & stale cookies. After the lovely meal in the restaurant the night before, we were expecting a bit more of a breakfast.

Review 12:Great spot to spend the night travelling from Sicily back to Rome - near A3. Very friendly staff. Very spacious room included bedroom, bathroom and sitting area. Wonderful dinner in the restaurant - one of the better ones of our trip.

Review 13:Only the Mozzies and the difficulty, first time around, of finding the place!

Review 14:Pinuccio Alia's Locanda d'Alia is a culinary experience of a lifetime: an eccentric "Locanda" in the strangest residential area of Castrovillari it showcases the truly great cuisine from one of Italy's most famous, legendary chefs in a.... well, eccentric but super friendly atmosphere which probably shocks American tourists but can be on the wavelength of those who really appreciate old fashioned and sincere Calabrian hospitality and cooking.....and the chalet suites (if you dodge the mozzies on the way in and out) are spotlessly clean and comfortable....trek in the Monte Pollini during the day, eat NO lunch, and feast in the evening: highlight:the mini steamed Moscardini then braised with Zucchini and a hint of sweet red onions....and much more washed down by their own wines:::(his wine list, as befits a great collector, is superb but you can ignore it and drink his refreshing house white and (!shock) Rosé which he produces and is superb).......and the pasta with fresh Alici is not to be missed. Eccentric but a hidden treasure in a place you would not expect to find any joy...and he and the staff are a joy once you show that you can tune into their wavelength! Bravo for a lone voice of individuality!

Review 15:In the living room, a beautiful design sofa... for one person. A missed opportunity.

Review 16:Stayed here for 5 days in september. Excellent location, near to many touristic places worth visiting, and beautiful nature for hiking, and wildwaterexperiences. The rooms are little apartments with a seperate bedroom with a very good bed, a beautiful bathroom with great shower, and a small living room, with an individual terrace with garden view. Very quiet, super-clean, good location in the town. The restaurant of this hotel is of very high standard, and its cuisine is among the best in Calabria. Very friendly owners and personnel. I would recommend a stay here to everyone!

Review 17:Liked the experience although the decor could do with a bit of updating. Would recommend to others as a different place to stay.

Review 18:The staff and management were extremely helpful and welcoming. Ate in the restaurant as suggested and food was very good. Our waiter was very helpful in describing the menu and making us feel special. Used the swimming pool which was good at the end of the day to cool off in. Stayed 2 nights. Good location for visiting the national park. We appeared to be the only guests there when we stayed which was a shame as a few more people around would have added to the ambience.

Review 19:We have visited before and would most definitely love to return. A dinner at La Locanda Di Alia is one you will not forget. One of the best in the world!! It is just hard to describe such an exquisite meal. The location of the hotel also lends itself very nicely to exploring the Monte Pollino area.

Review 20:Decor in bedroom could do with a bit of touching up

Review 21:Lovely setting, very nice rooms with comfortable bed. Very quiet setting at edge of town, so feeling of being near the countryside while having convenience of town. Food in restaurant was excellent, just a shame there weren't more visitors. Staff extremely pleasant, and when they met us by chance in the town, went out of their way to stop us and give advice on where to walk around Castrovillari. Also loved the little town. A bit down- at- heel in places and non touristy. But very genuine and really helpful shopkeepers. Would be very happy to go again and stay longer

Review 22:location, rubbish piled up outside. gardens and pool disgraceful. room dirty and uncomfortable , dark and steps inside dangerous. everything dilapidated including staff. very disappointed. shameful that we would still have to pay if we left.breakfast was also very poor, obvious shop bought biscuits, all that was on offer, offered as home made. we were booked at the restaurant for dinner but went elsewhere. the whole experience a complete disgrace and waste of money, by the way dearer than all other places on this trip. how does this warrant 4 stars??

Review 23:nothing, actually very upset and didn't want to stay, all our other accommodation was as we expected or better on this holiday.

Review 24:Quite hard to find by the address. iPad couldn't do it either. Had to ask locals. But all very friendly. Need to put coordinates into GPS

Review 25:Everything. Lovely friendly people and great food. Great accommodation.

Review 26:Electricity may be turned off at night, so devices aren't charging when you think they are. Rooms are a little worn and grounds maintenance could be better.

Review 27:The staff was very courteous and accommodating. Unfortunately we stayed here on a Sunday when the excellent restaurant is not open in the evening, but a great option was recommended and a member of the staff led us there in his car so we wouldn't have to navigate in the dark.

Review 28:This is probably google's fault, but La Locanda Di Alia appears in2 different places on google maps, none of which is the actuallocation. We drove around very late at night and got ourselves prettyconfused before we finally found someone to ask (who luckily for usspoke excellent English, and also luckily knew where the place was). When I looked at the map after we finally found it, the actual locationis identified as "Alia Farmhouse"! On a street labeledVieticelli (though it is actually Ieticelli, I think...) Very confusingto find, for us.The only other complaint we had was that the loft where our bed was (and the stairs up to it) were made of a stylish iron slatted material - very attractive but very painful on bare feet! Since we only went up into the loft to sleep it seemed silly to wear shoes, so we wished there was some kind of smoother flooring or a carpet... we were traveling light and didn't have slippers with us.

Review 29:This place was recommended to us by friends who are real gourmets, andit was on our way on a trip south to Sicily so it made for a nice stop. The restaurant is absolutely delicious, and we had one of our best mealsof the trip there. Our host at dinner (we never got his name) was veryhelpful with selecting dishes and wine, and after the meal gave us twokinds of house made digestivo liquores to sample (citrus and peachflavored, intensely delicious). The included breakfast was wonderful, with many delicious housemade baked goods. The hotel is a series ofbungalows (with a nice looking pool we didn't have time to try out),located on what seems like farm land, with a beautiful view of themountains. It would have been nice to stay more than one night ifpossible (even though it was on the high end of our budget). Our roomwas beautifully designed and very clean, and the shower was great. Thebed was very comfortable.

Review 30:The restaurant was one of the best I have ever experienced. The staffsaws extremely attentive; they even took my husband to the camera store.Worth a trip.

Review 31:More at breakfast not just biscuits

Review 32:The restaurant closes on a Sunday night

Review 33:Loved the restaurant. The rooms are very generous. Staff was great
