Reviews for La Locanda Delle Donne Monache
Review 1:Great stay. Wanted to book in Matera, but booked this hotel in Maratea by accident. The hotel was great; so much so that we stayed here for most of our holiday. Relaxing, great views, good food, and friendly staff!
Review 2:We loved everything about our stay in Maratea and especially this hotel. The decor is lovely and the daughter of the owner is such a delight on the front desk. As the food in the hotel restaurant is of such a high standard, we also ate there on the second night of our stay. We also had a light lunch by the pool which was perfect.
Review 3:Only staying there one night. We won't make that mistake again.
Review 4:A magical location overlooking the town. Very welcoming, most attentive, helpful and informative staff. Immaculate presentation throughout the hotel, great swimming pool and first class restaurant for both breakfast and dinner.
Review 5:Parking is good but a little way away from the hotel. Difficult to pick up and drop off bags on the narrow street.
Review 6:Lovely welcome and helpful staff. Great position overlooking the town and good restaurant
Review 7:Our stay was perfect. We ended up in Maratea by accident( wanted to book in Matera actually), but we enjoyed our stay so much that we ended up extending our stay. Friendly, and professional staff, good food, nice rooms, and a great view from the hotel.
Review 8:Very difficult to find. Room quite small with very little space to put things. We expected a queen bed and sofa per Booking.com so thought it would give us more room. Actually it was a small room with a king bed.
Review 9:Staff very nice and eager to please.
Review 10:You need to be fit and healthy to negotiate the climb from the centre.
Review 11:The helpful and friendly staff and the out door areas were excellent. Good views over the town.
Review 12:Staff is not accommodating. Acoustic in the rooms is bad, the classic rooms are small and not comfortable. Breakfast contains many ready made items.
Review 13:View from the hotel Big bonus is the beach that the hotel use out of town
Review 14:This small historic hotel and its stunning location, staff, welcome, meals, furnishings, pool, gardens, comfort, La Secca beach and every last detail were truly perfect in every way! A hidden gem of Italy. We will definitely return. A million thanks to Loredana and family xxx
Review 15:The room was a Superior but in reality it was less than fair. Thea/c was ancient not having good control, the room in general was oldand beat up.
Review 16:The grounds were very nice and convenient to town and the Statue ofJesus.
Review 17:Our double room was a little on the small side, however, if you are neat and tidy then you will be more than comfortable here. After all, your room is there to sleep in not live in. The gorgeous view over the village was a definite bonus.
Review 18:The beautiful view over the historical centre. Their pool area was the perfect place to relax and have a drink during the day. We welcomed being able to rest here for a few days given our hectic travelling schedule. We really loved Maratea and would recommend staying in this gorgeous place. The access to the historical centre was fabulous.
Review 19:The bathroom is very poor for that level of hotel; a small bathroom with an old and used shower.
Review 20:Staff is excellent, helpful. Location in the village is very nice
Review 21:Although we were kindly upgraded by the owner from a classic to a superior room, it was small, poorly decorated, with no view. After having a bad breakfast, we decided not to try their restaurant. Far away from the expected standard at this price. This exceptional old monastery deserved better.
Review 22:The owner is very welcoming. We enjoyed the pool alone most of the time although in august.
Review 23:Slightly difficult to find and arrive at due to narrow streets but the hotel was extremely helpful with parking and luggage.
Review 24:Friendly and high quality hotel, great place to relax with very friendly staff, good restaurant and sunny pool and deck. Friendly local town close by.
Review 25:Nothing. The restaurant is however closed during the day.
Review 26:Great location in the center of Maratea, good wifi, very helpful staff, free shuttle to the hotel's beach.
Review 27:The air conditioning in the room was weak.
Review 28:We had a lovely stay. The pool was very welcoming. We ate in the restaurant one evening and that was a good choice. Reception staff were very helpful, polite and friendly.
Review 29:Bathroom wasn't fully cleaned on check-in. Restaurant not consistent with quality of hotel.
Review 30:Welcome drink, hotel design, amenities, pool, incredible view, complimentary room upgrade, daily transportation to and from beach club, amazing beach, extremely helpful staff. Quality hotel.
Review 31:Stepping out to the pool, the view takes your breath away Balcony with seating overlooking the historic town Opera night in the town square Wonderful farm to table restaurant with open air seating Poolside drinks Super helpful staff Valet
Review 32:A bit of a climb up the stepped streets (but worth it!) Not really a negative aspect, just something for people to be aware of.
Review 33:Beautiful spot, nice pool and garden, very helpful and friendly staff, up above town so quiet and nice views. Walking distance to the piazza, restaurants, shuttle to beach.
Review 34:The owners are LOVELY, helpful and very considerate. The hotel is beautifully located above the Old Town. The restaurant food was superb and the service incredible. Very clean and comfortable rooms.
Review 35:It can get noisy here because of the valley sounds coming up the hills. But then again, we had a balcony with the doors open.
Review 36:A former convent on the mountain side looking down into the village and beyond, this was very pleasant. Excellent host, restaurant catering mostly for guests where the food was first class. Staff could not do enough for us. Transport to and from train. Nuns must have loved it. Great pool and gardens.
Review 37:We enjoyed every moment of our stay here - from the second we walked in the door and were greeted by the wonderful staff. This hotel just oozes charm and class, and was a joy to stay in. Our room was delightfully comfortable, with a lovely comfortable bed, fluffy duvet (makes a change from the usual blankets in Italy), and had loads of space. We dined in the restaurant one night, and the food and service were great. Car parking was just down the street (the hotel will park your car for you, but you can get access to it at any time), and though you look down on the rooftops of the town, it is only a very short walk away.
Review 38:Not a complaint at all, but we weren't too impressed with the food in house, but this could have been down to our menu choices. Waiter was excellent and very informative. The second night we had supper in the old town in a rustic pizzeria which was lovely.
Review 39:Loved the location of this lovely hotel on the edge of the old town. The room and te staff were all excellent and we loved our stay. Nothing was too much trouble.
Review 40:Walking down to the centre is fun but not really suitable for the elderly. Could be tricky getting back.
Review 41:The hotel is placed on a steep hill and offers an amazing view of the town below. We were very well looked after by all the staff but particularly by the young waitress in the restaurant. We wished to have an early start and they prepared the full breakfast spread quarter of an hour early just for us. It was wonderful. It all seems to run very smoothly.
Review 42:The room was very small, we had to re-arrange the furniture to be able to open our suitcase and we had to let each other pass. The airconditioning didn't work as it should, we had to leave it on day and night to have a reasonable temperature. The rate of 150€ is too much for such a small room.
Review 43:It's a 4-star hotel with lots of facilities such as a spa, fitness, library, garden, nice swimming pool near the restaurant, very good breakfast, beautiful view of the city, staff was very helpful
Review 44:There's a "but": we got a room with a small balcony but the couple traveling with us, who had paid for a larger room, got one that was very dark and with tiny windows - definitely try and get one with a balcony and view!
Review 45:Amazing building, very atmospheric and different from your regular hotel. Great restaurant, pool with tables by the side to have a drink overlooking the beautiful town of Maratea. We loved it.
Review 46:We booked a "superior" room. If you book one, don't set your expectations too high. It was not that much better than a standard room in some other hotels we have used. On top of that the bed was very hard.
Review 47:A free shuttle service was provided too and from railway station. Hotel was very clean. Good swimming pool. Pleasant and helpful staff. Good breakfast. Beach area used by hotel is a lagoon type setting and is pleasant although the beach is pebbly. Bedroom had good soundproofing and TV had BBC World.
Review 48:Nothing really. One bit of advice - offer beach towels for your guests!
Review 49:The service was exceptional - nothing was too much trouble, all delivered with a friendly smile. Location is perfect, offering amazing views from our room, and only a five minute walk to the town centre. Really appreciated the hotel providing transport to and from private beach.
Review 50:Nothing, everything was superb!!!
Review 51:The hotel was in a lovely setting, very clean, wonderful service. The staff were really helpful and nothing was too much trouble .The beach was beautifully situated. The sunbeds were included in the price abd there was a free shuttle bus to Take you too and from the beach. The restaurant in the hotel was really good, great food and good professional service, antonio and marie stella especially. Would recommend this hotel for a lovely peaceful holiday.
Review 52:Tricky to find if arriving by car.
Review 53:Good location above Maratea, although a fairly steep walk down (and up!) Good breakfast and excellent dinner. Staff all fantastic, polite and helpful. Great pool terrace.
Review 54:Stay clear of restaurant torre in town. An absolute tourist trap.
Review 55:Beautiful place, but I don't think the room qualifies as a suite. It is a beautiful double room yes , but to be a suite I think it should have a separate sitting area a bigger bathroom and better view. We basically saw a big gray building just in front of us. That being said we had a great stay. Staff was very friendly, pool area and garden beautiful, and one of the best hotel breakfasts we have ever had. Highly recommended!
Review 56:You just need to note about parking. Garage parking adds 20 euro a day but keeps it safe. Parking below is free, but a) most local cars are dented and b) there are loads of steps up to the hotel. Take your choice!
Review 57:This is a great ' must have' experience. Rooms are quirky and can be tight in a cave based hotel - but you have all the facilities you would expect. Flat screen TV and wifi as well. Staff are very helpful.
Review 58:We didn't have quite the same reception from the staff that other guests seem to have had. The two younger women staffing the front desk were nice enough, but the other staffer was so ferocious and foreboding that we did our best to tiptoe past the desk, heads bowed, every time they were there to avoid making eye contact!
Review 59:A lovely town, lovely region, very pretty hotel. Room was plain but very comfortable. Lovely pool.
Review 60:Bells in the nearby church were ringing every 15 minutes.
Review 61:We appreciated hospitality of the owners and amaizing views.
Review 62:Limited local restaurants without a drive to the port. The one we tried was grossly overpriced.
Review 63:The most wonderful location and friendly staff.
Review 64:Gotta like walking a lot of stairs to get between front desk, dining and lodging! Also rooms are a bit small.
Review 65:Great location and nice ambiance.
Review 66:Service is perfect. Location is best in Maratea. Pretty swimming pool, fantastic food.
Review 67:Incredible family owners, top of the hill view location, staff met us at the door,, took our luggage and parked our car. Loredona is special!!
Review 68:Room was small.
Review 69:Location, property and service
Review 70:Wifi poor, food disappointing, room small and dated
Review 71:Pool, location, view, staff
Review 72:The attentiveness of the staff and the atmosphere
Review 73:Great view over town! Clean and comfortable. Pool area was great and staff were helpful. Food at restaurant was delicious!
Review 74:Great welcome and friendly helpful staff in wonderful location. Breakfast and food in restaurant excellent
Review 75:Everything
Review 76:Food in restaurant was disappointing
Review 77:Very helpful staff, large airy and well appointed room. Pool and terrace superb.
Review 78:Food and service were great. Very friendly
Review 79:The pretty town and beautiful views. Staff was very friendly and helpful.
Review 80:Leaving
Review 81:We loved the location and the old convent has been done up beautifully Very helpful and friendly staff Restuarant great
Review 82:Very personal family welcome. Felt well looked after. Great local recommendations. Best breakfast in Italy!
Review 83:A very tranquil hotel in beautiful scenery and a good hotel restaurant. Staff very helpful
Review 84:Very disappointing food
Review 85:Service and menu
Review 86:Hotel on several levels, lots of steps
Review 87:Good location, attentive staff and very good restaurant
Review 88:We arrived to told that there was a wedding party and the restaurant was closed. Our first night was badly disturbed by the wedding party and shouting children until 1.30am and subsequently by the plumbing system working overtime with the sound of an express train passing through the room. Had we known that there was a wedding we would have stayed elsewhere.
Review 89:Very friendly, unusual location
Review 90:A little pricey if you get one of the smaller rooms. I would not recommend the restaurant for dinner (high price/low quality) but breakfast was very good.
Review 91:The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. (We parked nearby, gave them the keys, and they moved our car to the hotel lot.) Great location: 5 minutes walk down to the town; 1 hour pleasant walk up to the statue of Christ the Redeemer (40 min back down) Great views; nice pool. Good breakfast. Lovely bathroom with plenty of hot water. Nicely decorated room.We were fortunate enough to receive an upgrade to a large room with a big, comfortable terrace (#10 Converse).
Review 92:nothing!!!!!!!!
Review 93:We had a fantastic stay, although to short, the staff are fantastic and will go out of their way to help you, we will certainly try to come back in the near future
Review 94:This was our second stay at this hotel, we loved it so much the first time we just had to go back. Extremely helpful and polite staff and a beautiful hotel. Highly recommended
Review 95:This hotel is very special. The location is amazing overlooking the medieval historic city center. The accomodations were every bit 5 star and thensome. The staff was super helpful and paid incredible attention to every detail. Maratea was spectacular and our stay at La Laconda Delle Donne made it even more special!
Review 96:I cannot think of anything; the hotel is not very easy to find that's all.
Review 97:Very warm welcome with a glass of lemonade, we received a free upgrade to a spacious room, beautiful location, very good restaurant, excellent breakfast, we certainly recommend this place to people visiting this area
Review 98:Bathroom was slightly cramped and generally not up to rest of hotel standard.
Review 99:Lovely place with a very individual feel to the design. Extremely tasteful and relaxing.
Review 100:Nothing
Review 101:First and foremost the staff. They are exceptional, especially Loredanna, the Locanda's Manager. The location is picturesque overlooking the charming town of Maratea. The dinner we ate at the restaurant, Il Sacchetto, was superb.
Review 102:The staff were warm and friendly, Hotel location was excellent, wonderful views and easy to walk to the small town. The shuttle service to the beautiful beach was spot on. Nothing at the hotel was too much trouble, could not fault it.
Review 103:Loved the staff; loved the tour of the hotel by the delightful and softly spoken manager when we arrived; loved the way the old building retained so much of its charm but the hotel still had a chic and modern feel; loved the view from the pool; and loved the fact that our little baby Zach was so well looked after by every one of the members of staff we met. Really outstanding stay.
Review 104:Beds were just not too comfortable. Also, tricky to find it (good directions, but once you're there hard to recognize)
Review 105:Staff was very nice. The pool was great. Location was great. Hotellooked beautiful. Views were fantastic. Nice restaurant as well.
Review 106:We had dinner at the hotel as the checkin person said that they had anexcellent restaurant. The staff was a bit "stiff". We orderedpasta with saffron sauce and giant shrimps and there were not one singleshrimp in the servings only a few minimal pieces. The price wasEUR18/p!! We also ordered mixed salad and in that salad it was onecocktail tomato divided in four pieces!! Heard from other guests thatthey had the same experience. We do not recommend the restaurant! Notvalue for the money.
Review 107:The location is great! Good breakfast.
Review 108:Hotel is in a gorgeous position overlooking the beautiful town of Maratea. The hotel has retained period features whilst ensuring rooms have all mod cons you could need. Stay includes access to a lovely beach club. We will definitely be returning
Review 109:Apart from Maratea there were no other nearby towns worth visiting.
Review 110:Maratea is a lovely town, set amongst spectacular scenery - well worth a visit for 3/4 days.
Review 111:La Locanda Delle Donne Monache sits above the historic centre in a beautiful and peaceful location but it's only a few minutes walk from the restaurants, shops and wine bar. The hotel has great charm and exudes a real feeling of calm and serenity. Built into the hillside, it has many levels with lots of little corners/ spaces to explore and enjoy. On arrival, we were welcomed by the hotel manager who checked us in and gave us a tour of the hotel before showing us to our room. The bedroom was quite small but the great bed and fabulous view from our little balcony more than compensated for this. Throughout our stay, it was evident that the staff are very proud of their hotel. They were very attentive and responsive to our needs without being intrusive. We were not only looked after, we were cared for by a wonderful group of people. Thank you Laurie, Laurie's Mum, Antonio, Carlo, Nicolai ........... Dawn and David MacLeod Scotland.
Review 112:A very classy hotel and beautifully appointed. Very friendly management team. Good services for private beach. A very relaxing and so wonderfully scenic location. Highly recommended
Review 113:Hotel decor rather bizarre and rather lacking in atmosphere. Maratea not easy to get to and this hotel is at the top of the town so it is not for everyone.
Review 114:Good location in the old part of town. Nice pool, quiet hotel and friendly helpful staff.
Review 115:A very charming and well designed hotel, respecting the original building, a convent. Nestled in a very nice location overlooking the pretty village of Maratea and the beautiful green surrounding area. The staff were very kind & professional and sincerely warm to us & other guests. The hotel is also a very good base for exploring inland and the beautiful dramatic and still unspoilt coastline.
Review 116:The novelty of staying in a converted monastery; the great variety in the decor; the wonderful view over Maratea from our bedroom window; the friendly staff
Review 117:That it's so far away from where I live!
Review 118:I loved the location, right under the Christ the Redeemer statue. The view from our room was fantastic. The pool and lounge area was sophisticated and cozy at the same time. The staff was superb and Loredana the proprietor was the best!
Review 119:Always so helpful and smiley
Review 120:Driving the narrow road to get there... But we've seen worse!
Review 121:Location, restaurant, short hike, and Maratea is a real gem.
Review 122:size of room
Review 123:Excellent staff. Beautiful hotel
