Reviews for Hotel Boutique Castillo Rojo

Review 1:Amazingly helpful staff prepared to really put themselves out for you at a charming boutique hotel built as a town villa in 1923. One really feels at home and can use a quiet lounge supplied with fruit and iced water with good wifi access. It is also in the centre of shops, theatres and restaurants in the Bellavista bohemian area. Highly recommended and we wouldn't stay anywhere else.

Review 2:The standard rooms are so tiny, dark and claustrophobic, it's all but impossible to stay there, except to sleep. For the price, expected far more. Staff not particularly personable. Not rude, but make you feel very transitory (waiters were nice though). We ultimate went next door to Tinto, which ended up being absolutely lovely!

Review 3:The location is great, little square right in front of the hotel. The building is beautiful.

Review 4:the person in charge of the small but beautifully decorated breakfast room was not a very friendly chap. He seemed stressed and not thrilled to be there. I was in somewhat of a rush to make a bike tour and told him so. he hastily informed me that there was at least 10 min wait to get anything to accompany my coffee, when i asked if he had a small pastry, croisant, muffin, local bread or breakfast cake treat, empananda, anything - he curtly replied "the only thing we have is flat white toast (from a bag which i saw) that needs to be toasted at least 10 minutes. It is clearly not his fault. My suggestion would be that management should make readily available some type of bread or pastry selection for a guest to enjoy with their coffee, or even to go if there is time constraint, rather than to opt for merely having my coffee by itself because i could not wait for fruit to be sliced up to order, or eggs fried, or whatever else they offered which i was not interested in having.

Review 5:the staff really went above and beyond to be helpful in every way. they suggested activities, recommended nearby restaurants. it was plainly obvious that their mission was to please. the only hiccup was upon my arrival around noon i was told that the room was ready but their check in time was noon. so if i wanted access to it there would unfortunately be an early check in charge. This was reiterated as well to another traveler who arrived at the same time I did. She requested to speak to the manager. His name was William. We both explained to him our dismay at such an uncommon practice. He asked for our business cards, perused them quickly, and informed the person at the desk that he could go ahead and give us access immediately. I was obviously pleased and thanked him. But the fact remains that travelers considering this hotel should be aware of this somewhat unusual and in my opinion quite unfriendly tactic. I don't believe it is a positive public relations move on their part. BUT I REPEAT, once that was resolved, my entire stay was a delight.

Review 6:English speaking staff was always helpful. The hotel is a wonderful old building in a great location and very well maintained. Breakfast was excellent.

Review 7:Breakfast could have had a wider offering. No dinner available, but many restaurants down the street.

Review 8:The staff were exceptional, and took care of your every need. I was not well and they made me chicken soup with 1/4 chicken in the broth. Loved the area, you could walk to old centro.

Review 9:Staff was most congenial and helpful. They went out of their way to make sure everything that we needed was fulfilled. The dining room and service ware was very quaint. The wait staff was very attentive. Breakfast was perfect.

Review 10:Absolutely nothing!

Review 11:I was recommended this place by a colleague and I can't thank her enough for suggesting it. It was like a dream! The entire building is fantastic, the staff incredibly helpful - not only going the extra mile they go 100 miles - and the area the absolute best place to be when visiting Santiago. Great places to eat and drink, beautiful surroundings, close to city center. If I ever get the chance to go back to Santiago I will definitely go back to Castillo Rojo.

Review 12:Nothing

Review 13:Great location - lots of restaurants and bars at the front door. Wasn't noisy, even with a room facing the street. Nice interiors - hotel and room. Very comfortable bed and great shower. Excellent wifi throughout hotel. Good breakfast at the bar downstairs.

Review 14:The hotel acoustics meant that when guests left in the early hours of the morning, there was a lot of noise and disruption.

Review 15:The hotel is beautiful and really nicely laid out. The staff were incredibly helpful and the hotel is in a very interesting and lively but safe district.

Review 16:stayed twice. first an attic room the size of a handkerchief; top floor no lift - but clean. this time, another tiny room but revolting smell means we asked to move. New bedroom wasn't much better; bathroom was clammy; no cold water...Breakfast: carton juice; slices of cheap processed ham and cheese. tinned fruit salad.

Review 17:location

Review 18:Near lots of good restaurants, points of interest. The staff was really nice, breakfasf was delicious. And the room was very very comfortable. Loved it!!

Review 19:everything. The hotel and rooms have very comfy and homely feel. The staff could not have tried any harder to make us feel welcome. We only had an overnight stay but wished we had more time. The local area is great with lots of restaurants and cafes. Would highly recommend

Review 20:Breakfast is poor for the price and being a boutique hotel. They should at least serve fresh orange juice. Since it used to be a house and it there is not a lot of room between rooms, it could be a bit noisy.

Review 21:The location is perfect, great neighborhood, closed to plenty of restaurants. Waking distance to metro, Fine Arts Museum, Neruda's house and Cerro San Cristobal. Very helpful and friendly staff. Beautiful decor, it makes you feel that you are in a castle.

Review 22:Room by courtyard. We had an early morning departure. Courtyard stayed open until after 2 am. Made for a unpleasant nights sleep.

Review 23:The preservation of the hotel's history. Unique and beautiful architecture.

Review 24:Room one was a bit small.

Review 25:The location was surrounded by restaurants and bars, convenient to the metro and within walking distance of the plaza de armas. The staff was wonderful and spoke fluent English.

Review 26:Our standard room was a little small with limited storage space. Would recommend going to a higher grade.

Review 27:The staff were all very friendly and helpful. The location is very good, only 5 minutes from the re-opened funicular, 10 minutes from the Metro and a short walk to the Patio Bellavista, a mall of restaurants.

Review 28:Absence of elevator with room on 5th floor meant some difficulty with access although hotel staff excellent with bags.Would love to stay again but would ensure room no higher than first floor if available with suitable size

Review 29:Great staff with excellent location. Nothing ever a problem.Metro and walking access very good.

Review 30:Bad and tiny breakfast without buffé. Feels like to the hotel need a new management. Hope Santiago have better hotels if I go there again.

Review 31:Actually, only the outside of the building. The service inside was totally not good enough, but there were some exceptions.

Review 32:Great boutique hotel situated in the best area with attractions and nightlife nearby. Hotel is stunning and well looked after, would highly recommend.

Review 33:breakfast was OK but not great. Could not provide drinkable tea.

Review 34:Great location; beautiful structure and grounds. Very attractive interior. Staff were very welcoming and helpful in every way.

Review 35:The hotel was beautifully decorated and our rooms were spacious and comfortable. We loved that we were within walking distance of excellent restaurants as well. Very bohemian neighborhood

Review 36:We had a couple of requests for the room. Needed things like more toilet paper and tissues. The shower was beautiful but did not drain properly. They were a little too slow in responding.

Review 37:The hotel was magnificently restored from an old manor house. It had loads of charm. Great location. Near many restaurants and a good area to just walk around. Wished we could have stayed longer.

Review 38:Fourth floor room without elevator, but room was extremely comfortable and well insulated from street noise inspire of being on a busy corner.

Review 39:Wonderful staff who were very helpful in assisting us with arrangements for sightseeing, suggestions for dining and placing phone calls for us to confirm prior bookings.

Review 40:Breakfast left quite a bit to be desired, you have options of eggs (scrambled, poached, etc), otherwise it's standard small portion of yogurt, some old looking fruit, toast with ham and cheese.

Review 41:Location was great in a beautiful part of Bellavista. At times felt a bit understaffed (I.e. Took 5 min for someone to open the gate for us at night). Service was generally very good, the staff was helpful.

Review 42:The only negative comment is to watch out for the tour guide. Make sure you get what you pay for. The hotel recommended a tour guide for the city tour and wine tour, and the guide cut it short by two hours. His name begins with Ch.

Review 43:Very charming and luxurious! Best location in Bella Vista neighborhood. Near Plaza Bella Vista marketplace/ restaurant area.

Review 44:Room service can be more proactive and generous with bathroom items. Room serviced too late. No alternative fire/emergency exit.

Review 45:Everything great

Review 46:<nothing at all. Everything a good hotel should be.

Review 47:The staff could not be friendlier or more helpful if they tried! I have developed an infection in my hand, and they walked me to the Clinic/Hospital, extended my stay when I was told not to leave town.....and generally, the standard is exceptional.

Review 48:Breakfast was ordinary although the bread was excellent

Review 49:Beautiful old building, lovely rooms, helpful multilingual staff, fantastic location just up the road from bellavista bars and restaurants and right near San cristobel hill

Review 50:I stayed in this hotel in October. The entire experience was so easy and comfortable. This was easily the best boutique hotel I have stayed in. The hotel has been recently renovated in a beautiful mansion, and the attention to detail is faultless. The room was beautiful decorated, modern, elegant with old world charm. The bed and linen was extremely comfortable and the room was clean and spotlessly new. Double glazing on the windows and a simple airconditining system made the room very quiet and easy to control the temperature. The breakfast service included fresh juice, french pasteries and coffee made to order and provided a very satisfying start to the day. The staff were exceptionally good and were extremely polite, respectful, and happy to answer any request with a smile. I arranged transport from the airport and a private tour through the hotel (other travel companies i contacted failed to respond) before i arrived and reception was able to respond to my emails almost instantly. Staying at the hotel was a wonderful experience and I highly recommend it.

Review 51:The atmosphere of the hotel. The staff were knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. The beds were exceptionally comfortable. The location was excellent for a wide choice of restaurants and bars all open until late. It was easy to catch the metro or the Hop on Hop off bus to the city centre. The funicular and park close to the hotel had stunning views over the City.

Review 52:Breakfast is sparse - bread, cheese and a croissant.

Review 53:Great location, friendly, attentive staff (some speak English). Extremely comfortable room with great bed, quiet, excellent cable TV. All is new and modern inside with the original historic character maintained. Highly recommended.

Review 54:A very helpfully and super friendly staff welcomes you in the Castillo Rojo Hotel Boutique‏. The building is a beautiful nearly century old villa in the middle of the vibrant Bella Vista neighbourhood. But rooms are queit, sleep well. Breakfast is served with lots of fresh fruit, super. Within 1 minute walk you find some fine restaurants, within 3 minutes walk the famous patio Bella Vista with at least 50 restaurant and terraces of everybody's choice. Even the famous lapis lazuli shops are almost at the doorstep. Should say for this hotel, staf, comfort, location are more than excellent!!! Am every some months in Chile, shall return in December to the Red Castle Hotel Boutique again. Excellent.

Review 55:It was a little tough climbing the stairs to the fourth floor ( no elevator)The breakfast is a bit simple and could use a few more options such as more fruit and perhaps ham & cheese and eggs.

Review 56:The staff speak excellent English & were very helpful and friendly. We had a very short time in Santiago and they helped by suggesting several options for things to do all within walking distance. We needed to book a bus over the Andes and again the staff were very helpful. The beds are fantastic and the location is excellent.

Review 57:The first floor rooms open onto the breakfast room. It didn't bother us as it's not a big hotel (lobby, level 1 and 2 only) and not many guests to make noise, but if you're a light sleeper maybe ask for a room on level 2.

Review 58:Lovely hotel! Comfortable, big beds, clean and in a great location. It's on the same street as lots of excellent restaurants and bars for all budgets. 7min walk to the subway. Highly recommend the two restaurants next door - El Percanta Argentinan restaurant (get the dulce de Leche creme caramel for dessert!) and Pétanque French restaurant. Free wifi. Breakfast at the hotel was as described - French. Baguette with jam, pastry, juice, tea and coffee. Ask for seconds if you like!

Review 59:Nothing.

Review 60:Probably the best place to stay in Santiago.Friendly and helpful reception desk.My wife was ill when we arrived and they made their best to make our stay comfortable. There is nothing to stay less than thank you and God bless you all after our terrible stay at Galerias Hotel.

Review 61:Close to Patio Bellavista

Review 62:Small room

Review 63:Close to restaurant and site seeing

Review 64:Incredibly hospitable staff. The Egyptian cotton bed linen was beautiful. Good location, great restaurants nearby.

Review 73:Courtyard side is very loud late!

Review 74:Small rooms

Review 75:Location

Review 76:Unique Beautifully decorated hotel. Fantastic staff, very helpful and speak English. Great location, close to restaurants.

Review 77:This hotel is a gem with the service to match. Right in the middle of Santiago's night life, but can't hear a thing inside the room.

Review 78:The location of this place is fantastic and it really is very stylish.

Review 79:noise from the courtyard in the morning

Review 80:Location, size of room and comfort of room.

Review 81:Breakfast is limited and quite terrible.

Review 82:Beautiful hotel, fast wifi, clean rooms, great location.

Review 83:The breakfast, like the hotel, was perfect, delicious eggs, home-made bread, yogurt, cheese, ham and coffee.

Review 84:The area is quite noisy in the evenings, extending until 4am on weekends. OK if you are out partying, not so good if you want to sleep.

Review 85:Good atmosphere, near excellent choice of restaurants and the metropolitan park

Review 86:Breakfast has to be better for a 5 star hotel like this

Review 87:Staff, location, room...

Review 88:The breakfast was a bit simple, but fine.

Review 89:Beautiful hotel in the Bella Vista neighborhood which is great for eating and drinking!

Review 90:The room was very comfortable--roomy and lots of closet space. The staff was friendly and helpful and courteous. The building is historic and very elegant and and beautifully decorated. I enjoyed staying in a historic space.

Review 91:Terrible breakfast: no fruits, yogurt, cheese, ham, natural juice
