Reviews for The Secret Garden Relais
Review 1:Nothing
Review 2:A lovely quaint hotel located in Piano - a half hour walk or two train stops to the heart of Sorrento. Plenty of shops nearby to grab a bite to eat. Great breakfast which included a homemade omelette made from their own chickens. A well deserved treat as an Italian breakfast consists generally of sweet bakery items. Run by a family who are really friendly and made us feel very welcome. Comfortable beds and lots of room to move.
Review 3:Unfortunately we didnt hve full wi fi in the room only in the reception area...which was a little bit of an inconvenience. Also although I searched for parking of which it states the parking is approx 300 /400 m away down alleys...as we were lucky on both evenings to find spaces we were staying out of season so please be careful.
Review 4:We liked the accommodation and cleanliness of the accommodation. ..the breakfast was extensive and fresh with hot made to order croissants and drinks.
Review 5:Wi-Fi works only at reception area (not in room).
Review 6:Good location, very nice house, clean rooms, helpful and very friendly owners. Close to station and close to beach. Good breakfasts.
Review 7:Reception not staffed most of the time. In fact only in the morning. Lighting was poor. A long walk from gate to the building so difficult at night. Also the Building was not lit and we had a struggle finding light switches. We should have been told where they were.
Review 8:Location was good. Room cleaned everyday.
Review 9:Reception was only open in the morning and late afternoon, so if you arrived in between these times you would have to call and wait for someone to arrive before being allowed into the property. But this was a minor irritation which shouldn't detract from the many positives.
Review 10:Location and facilities were excellent. The couple with young child running the accommodation were friendly and helpful, serving breakfasts that were an ample mixture of sweet and savoury snacks, augmented with coffee or tea. The train station to visit Sorrento was 5 minutes walk away. The trip itself was only about 5-10 minutes.
Review 11:Fantastic location in Piano di Sorrento. Close to Sorrento, the beach, trainstation, restaurants and shops. Nice and quiet area with a beautifull garden. Atmosphere is great because the building is classicly beautiful. Friendly hosts, always willing to help and making great cappuccino and eggs in the morning. :) We stayed for almost a week and had a fantastic time. We made trips by train to Sorrento, Pompei, Ercolano, Naples en by boat to Capri. Highly recommended stay for the Sorrento area.
Review 12:Room not as advertised - Stated tea/coffee making facilities in room. No Tea/Coffee, milk or sugar. Kettle did not work properly and when we reported it the replacement did not boil either. Our neighbours had to make us drinks and we had to go shopping for tea coffee etc. after being delayed for 4.5 hours ! Reception was not manned during the hours advertised and so we could not pay our bill.
Review 13:Beautiful building Lovely Town Lovely people in hotel
Review 14:We asked to change rooms because the attic room we were given was terrible. We got another attic room which wasn't much better. The mattress was so cheap and uncomfortable. Very basic. Poor breakfast. Poor decor and fittings in rooms. Toilet didn't flush properly and there was a lot of heavy lime scale and staining in the shower. To enter the bathroom you had to negotiate two steps right at the door which was dangerous. The sink overhung the last step. Property poorly maintained to be honest.
Review 15:The staff were pleasant and courteous
Review 16:wlan doesnt work in the rooms upstairs, but it is no problem to have a seat in this beautiful apartment or this anazing garden! always would come back to secret garden! highly recommended
Review 17:highly recommended, unbelievabel huge garden! our room even had a bath, not a shower! so very relaxing armosphere and the house itself is great!
Review 18:At 9-30 is late to get a breakfast. But they do omelet after my request. External bathroom can get locked out of your order. If you didn't get the key with you, you are locked. I could get out of mansard' window and go inside the house by the open terrace door...
Review 19:Near train station "Piano di Sorrento" Old house is stunning Living in real italian block. Near is situated a small family (?) restaurant.
Review 20:The staff was very friendly and accommodating. The guesthouse was in a great location in Piano, just outside of the busy Sorrento (only a 5 minute train ride though). The property had a lot of character. Would definitely stay again!!
Review 21:The hosts Dario and Margarita were extremely helpful. It's a beautiful, tranquil location. We liked just walking down to the beach here and didn't bother going into Sorrento. There are restaurants In walking distance too.
Review 22:If we had questions about or stay or about activities the staff was willing to help. The B&B is close to the trainstation 'Piano di Sorrento' and a busstop.
Review 23:We had one of the budget rooms which was kind of an attic. It wasn't terrible but wouldn't spend to many days staying there. The Bathroom was not up to scratch! The toilet never flushed properly and the shower had mildew in it and hadn't really been cleaned properly.
Review 24:The location is really near the train station and is therefore a great place to base day trips from! Also the balcony and roof have pretty decent views of the surrounding area. Breakfast was pretty good. The owner is really friendly and even kept our bags for us after checkout.
Review 25:Nice gardens, historical family house few hundreds meters far from the see. In your stay you didn't perceive any noise apart the birds. Super
Review 26:There were no indications for the relais on the main road and hard to find. The relais was at the second floor without elevator and it is not handy for couples with small children and big luggages. The garden was not accessible to the guests :-( The breakfast was poor and without fresh bread and or pastry as per local tradition.
Review 27:The Room was spacious, the location was quite, the terrace for breakfast was beautiful. The staff was friendly and helpfull.
Review 28:Nice b&b. The owners were always friendly and accommodating but are usually only around in the morning if you need advice on seeing the sites. Rooms where decent size as was the bathroom and all very clean. The location is very near Piano train station and trains are every half hour or so (the timetable is in reception). Initially i thought the location was inconvient as i was travelling to Sorrento everyday (thinking thats where everything is) but then i explored Piano and it has coast and restaurants as good as Sorrento but without the crowds so i found it more relaxing. I really enjoyed my stay.
Review 29:The room wasn't clean - sheets had stains on them. Breakfast served late 8:30 - very difficult to plan any activities because of this.
Review 30:Delicious breakfast
Review 31:The bathroom is a little odd And the shower was oddly shaped. Also, this is nor in Sorrento, which worked out great as it is two stops away, but important to know.
Review 32:The B&B is run by a sweet young family. The town of Piano di Sorrento is wonderful and the people are extremely friendly.
Review 33:Breakfast was poor, more sweet things than normal european breakfast(maybe napoletan tradition), no wi-fi on mansard rooms
Review 34:The biilding was amazing, the staff very friendly and helpfull. Theirenglish level was good
Review 35:It was some troubles with hot water the first night, but the guy on reception really tried to help and the problem was fixed, so finally we got a hot shower, though in the morning next day.
Review 36:location rooms interior staff
Review 37:No complaints.
Review 38:The Secret Garden was very comfortable and clean. We were there for 30 days! Gennaro the manager is excellent. He makes the best cappuchinos. The value for location, customer service and breakfast can't be beat. The hotel is 5 min. from the train station and just 2 stops from Sorrento. Piano di Sorrento is a very nice town. We felt very safe there.
Review 39:The room under the roof can be hot but the AC is perfect.
Review 40:The kindness of our host, Gennaro, who was very helpful for special requests... The beautiful roof terrace. The comfortable room. Less than 5 minutes to reach the train station
Review 41:We just knew this was going to be a treat when we opened the gate - and were greeted by majestic canopied walk through the garden up to an imposing elegant house. The accommodation is on the top floor - for which you ascend a fairytale like spiral stone staircase. Our host was very helpful, the room was good, nice hot powerful shower! The decor throughout was inspirational. We had breakfast on the roof terrace - what a pity we had only allowed one nights stay. Will definately return for longer next time...
Review 42:No lifts and wifi coverage was low in my room at times
Review 43:This was an amazing find the day before as I was looking to book somewhere for 2 nights and at such short notice, great size bedroom I had the attic room with my own ensuite, comfortable large double bed and plenty of room to move around. The host was extremely kind and made me feel right at home from day 1, i highly recommend this place at such a low cost everyone can afford it.
Review 44:Bathroom not in the room. Not the most happening area - but good if you want to be away from the touristy areas, and near train.
Review 45:Room was small, but nice. Breakfast just ok. Probably good for a base to do day trips around the coast, if you're on aight budget.
Review 46:Couldn't get the a/c or the fridge to work but it wasn't a major issue
Review 47:Loved the place, very peaceful setting. Host was fabulous, friendly and helpful, great restaurant 5 mins walk away.
Review 48:breakfast on a terrasse outside, not far from Sorrento town center even if we need the train (3 minutes) warm welcome with all tourist information available
Review 49:we had an amazing time at the Secret Garden Relais. The staff was superfriendly and the room was clean and comfortable. What more do you want? It is not in the centre of Sorrento but we were glad... Piano di Sorrento is not that far but so much better! No mass tourism but still nice restaurants and bars. The restaurant "Antica Cantina" is just around the corner. Great food for a reasonable price.
Review 50:Breakfast was too sweet, very much like dessert. Would have preferred a greater variety of healthy cereals and muesli and maybe fresh fruit, instead of cakes and tarts
Review 51:Beautiful, unique, elegant, comfortable accommodation in a very good location
Review 52:a)On the brochure it says Wi-Fi available. The Wi-Fi could not connect in the apartment rooms that myself and my friends were in so had to go up a floor and sit on the stairs to the Wi-Fi connection. It was out of range where we were.b)The breakfast was adequate. no fruit was an option.c) very difficult to find the location. It is not based in Sorrento but Sorrento di piano so you must travel on the train to get to Sorrento.d)Outside the train station there is a sign for the Secret Garden pointed the wrong way which threw us off.e) It states on the brochure that the bathrooms are ensuite. I assumed that this meant the bathroom was adjoining the b&b but no its not adjoining the room but in the hallway. It is your private bathroom but isn't ensuite.f) There was on fan in the bathroom so it was very very hot.g) The many keys- They give you one key to enter the apartment, another for the next door through the apartment, then a key for your room and a key for the bathroom and the key to get into the the main complex area outside. We had a lot of doors to open and lock behind us! On the final day of our stay we were leaving to get the train to Sorrento to get the bus to Naopli. It's the best way to get there from where we were staying which is a 10 minute walk from the train station down a dodgy alleyway. Would not walk it alone at night. So as myself and my friends were leaving a door that they had always left open was locked. We had no way out and none of the keys fit. Why? Because they didn't give us a key for that door. It was always open. We had no way out and were worried it wouldn't be opened on time for us to catch our flight home. We hadn't a number. We had to knock on the door on the nice Italian women in the same apartment area. The only other occupant there so we were lucky. She found a number to ring as with all her many keys she also wasn't given one to that door. She rang and a guy came down to open the door.
Review 53:The garden area was lovely. The rooms were big.
Review 54:No complaints from us.
Review 55:Everything was great for us. We wanted a short break in the region to relax and we found it. I am happy that Secret garden is in a little Italian town outside the busy centre of Sorrento (which you can take the local train to in 5 minutes), I felt as if we got an authentic experience in a family B & B, the family are so friendly and helpful and the building and gardens are just so pretty. I love the tiled floors and winding staircase up to the door (it is located on the second floor of an 18th century villa...wow!) we stayed in one of the rooms in the roof with a private bathroom (which was huge and lovely!) and was just outside the room, there was also a little roof terrace there outside the room and we sat there under the stars every night. They make their own Limoncello, which is tasty. And were happy to lend us wine glasses for our own wine. Some reviewers before said they weren't happy with the sweet breakfast, but we liked it, I read that it is typical for Italy, homemade local cakes :-) and we were offered a choice of coffees by the friendly son of the family every morning. You can go to the beach nearby, you have to walk down a winding walkway its about 20 mins walk from the accommodation, nice for a swim to cool down in the early evening! I couldn't find much written online about Piano Di Sorrento, but I was really happy there, a little square where the locals sit out and chat at night, and there was a flea market on the Saturday evening, local people, a few great pizzerias and a great deli/eatery, we will go back next year!
Review 56:Gennaro and his sister were so helpful and kind! They gave us great tips for transportation and sights to visit. They B&B is beautiful, the rooms are great for the price, and the breakfast is nice. Would definitely come back!
Review 57:Not much clean bathroom.
Review 58:Location
Review 59:Not for business: almost no wi-fi, late breakfast.
Review 60:Beautiful building and garden. Nice room.
Review 61:It was a distance to walk to the busy sorento
Review 62:A nice and different spacy place. Very quiet and a big nice orchard.
Review 63:Very kind hosts. Excellent location - close to the train station and provides easy access to all attractions.
Review 64:Overpriced, bathrooms need maintenance, breakfast can surely be better.
Review 65:Location, big house and calm area
Review 66:Away from the hustle and bustle. More like the real Italy.
Review 67:Everything was perfect. Nice family, clean room, delicious limoncello, fantastic house.
Review 68:Hard to find;
Review 69:Good value for the money; easy access to Circumvezuviana; air conditioning during hot nights; proximity to Piano Marina
Review 70:Great location, clean and the whole family who own and run the property are lovely people.
Review 71:Very close to the train and to the water. Breakfast was great.
Review 72:Wifi didnt work at all in my room and for breakfast you may choose only on packed stuff (croissant, muffin etc)
Review 73:Position, room and atmosphere
Review 74:Wi-fi
Review 75:Staff is very friendly. The place is nice.
Review 76:Beautiful decoration, clean and quiet room, various choices for breakfast, nice people.
Review 77:Charming hotel, a bit outside of the center of Sorrento (which keeps some distance to the touristy mayhem of central Sorrento). Rather difficult to locate (it really is a secret garden), but the hotel in itself was very cool! The staff speaks poor English, but are keen to help out! PS- take the bus there from Naples airport, not the train. Its easier and almost ends up at the same price
Review 78:Swimming Pool would be perfect Ensure proper maintenance (e.g shower - bathroom was kind of flooded after taking a shower)
Review 79:Close to the Train-Station , Sorrento/Pompeji and others all well reachable Very good Italian breakfast Nice hosts In an 'old villa', good ambiente
Review 80:Rooms were very small and dated, need some attention to detail (hole in wall, wires visible Glass on wardrobe door smashed and has not been replaced) and redecoration, Internet connection very poor. Location to Sorrento town further than we expected.
Review 81:The staff were very friendly and helpful.
Review 82:Better learn italian or have your gps with you. Harder to find than potof gold at end of rainbow.
Review 83:What a surprise find, nice breakfast, hotel has lots of charm.
Review 84:The room was narrow. The wind came in trough the old windows. The breakfast was not a real buffet breakfast, they gave only cold meals. There was only one kind of meat with toast and some sweats.
Review 85:The imposant building is situated in a beautiful garden, 7 minutes walk from circumvesuviana, two corners from restaurant Ferdinando which is a cosy restaurant with delicious dishes. The room was clear and cleared on weekdays, the bedlinen was changed after 3 days. The bed was simple but comfortable. The receptionist who made the breakfast for us was very helpful.
Review 86:We stayed four nights. Every thing is good. Piano di Sorrento is a small town close to Sorrento, only five minutes (two stops) to Sorrento by train. Nice house, nice room, clean, beautiful garden, quiet place, and very friendly young man Ginnelo, I like him. Worth to stay.
Review 87:the breakfast could be better but you can have the basic(cereal, cappuccino and bread), some cakes also for those who like it!
Review 88:Very charm place with a nice view of the mountain and a big garden, very quiet! Close to the train station, only 2 stations and 2 minutes away from the old town! Genaro was very nice and helpful, thank you for the few minutes early breakfast! :)
Review 89:For those who care, the closest place to park is 200 yards away. Breakfast is mediocre but it is average by Italian standards.
Review 90:Charming garden and a building with lots of great character.
Review 91:I was impressed by the friendlyness and overwhelming hospitality of the manager and his employees. The breakfast was more equivalent to a 4**** hotel in terms of quality and freshness. I will return with friends to this location since I had not the time to see Capri and the surrounding islelands. This is a highly recommendable location.
Review 92:Our room had ants. One of the beds was covered in them one afternoon. The staff said they would take care of it but the ants came back the next day. The town did not have much to offer. Not many food options.
Review 93:The hotel is a short walk from the train station so you can travel to other cities very easily. It is also near a tiny beach with a nice restaurant and a laundry mat.
Review 94:The Secret Garden was a lovely surprise. Beautiful location and friendly staff. The Secret Garden is easy to find from the trainstation in Piano, at walking distance.
Review 95:Our set of rooms were a bit small. Some aspects of the bathroom could use improvement (toilet seat loose; lavatory faucet sprayed out of the basin).
Review 96:The location in a ~200 yr old villa with views of the coast and historic village was outstanding.
Review 97:No response to emails Not easily located Host was not there on our arrival even though we arrived between 5pm-7pm, the time they say they will be open for check in. Many things didn't work when we arrived including the; TV, Safe, Fridge, Key to bedroom door, and the Toilet! Breakfast was very poor - it is all supermarket packaged wheat and sugar products. It was inferred no food was allowed in the room or fridge, so we basically felt very uncomfortable as there was nothing we could eat for breakfast and we weren't supposed to keep any of our own food on the premises. We stayed in the upstairs loft room, it had a constant smell of burning and a loud doorbell buzzer goes off in the hall outside. It is at least an hour walk into Sorrento. You can get a train in to Sorrento but they only run at most every half hour and they stop running at 9.30pm.
Review 98:Set in a large garden Aesthetic period features Quiet and away from nice and tourists. Grazianna the host eventually warmed up, became friendly, and did her best to be helpful. We are grateful for all the assistance and information she provided to us.
Review 99:1. Some dust in the room.2. Not good regular coffee on breakfast but you can ask staff to prepare good one. 3. We lived in attic room so it was a bit noisy (not so) when it rained. Fortunately it's rear case in Italy. 4. You have to go on foot (3 km) or use the train (every half hour) to get to Sorrento (hub to visit other sights of Amalfi coast) In general the best hotel (out of 5) which we stayed during our visit in Italy this time.
Review 100:Big room with the fridge, air conditioner, huge bathroom with big showercabin. Good breakfast with unlimited bread, cornflakes, sometimescroissants, yogurts, cheese keeping in mind the cost of the room. Reallyhelpful stuff. Restaurant with really tasty and not expensive foodnearby. Quiet at night if there is no rain. Great value for money.
Review 101:Place just top pick )))
Review 102:Everything. Relaxed atmosphere. Spacious accommodation. Continental Breakfast.
Review 103:Wifi didn't work. A bit far to Sorrento centre (if you need it).
Review 104:Wonderful villa behind an orange garden. Very friendly staff.
Review 105:Not many facilities
Review 106:Very nice room
Review 107:Very frendly stuff, clean, nice, authentic
Review 108:ants
Review 109:fixtures and fttings
Review 110:it is a hostel.
Review 111:It is in a nace place out of the crowd of Sorento and Amalfi. Nice people.
Review 112:nice personnel, good breakfast
Review 113:Location, friendly staff, setting, facilities provided - wifi, hairdryer
